Mitt Romney on pardons

By Nico Pitney on Jun 12th, 2007 at 10:54 pm

Mitt Romney on pardons

while he was governor of Massachusetts:

Decorated Iraq war veteran Anthony Circosta seemed like an ideal candidate for a pardon from then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for his boyhood conviction for a BB gun shooting.

Romney said no — twice — despite the recommendation of the state’s Board of Pardons.

At age 13, Circosta was convicted of assault for shooting another boy in the arm with a BB gun, a shot that didn’t break the skin. Circosta worked his way through college, joined the Army National Guard and led a platoon of 20 soldiers in Iraq’s deadly Sunni triangle.

In 2005, as he was serving in Iraq, he sought a pardon to fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer.

Romney on pardons now:

Romney said it’s “worth looking at a pardon [for Scooter Libby],” because special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald “clearly abused prosecutorial discretion” by going on a “political vendetta” against Libby despite knowing he was not the original source of the leak.

It doesn’t matter, plug in whatever names you want.
Same shit, different day, and doesn’t even matter.

Then it shouldn’t matter what I post, right?

A real sob story; I hope it is not true.

  8. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

Everyone knows that a childhood prank gone wrong resulting in unbroken skin is MUCH more important than an adult government employee lying to a special prosecutor trying to get to the bottom of a treasonous act.

    Comment by Gus Smith

Apparently it is true, Gus. Check the link in the top line of the post.

Please scooter obstructed justice, much less a crime than a BB gun shooting, Hell my bother shot me with a BB gun, but never did I call the police. What a bunch of confused hypocrites my right wing is.

  11. Stella Octangula says:

Massachusetts? Romney is just another liberal neocon acting as a conservative.

Everybody know MAsssuckssit, is liberal town.

  12. Armando Gomez says:

Has anyone figure it out by now? “Compassionate Conservatism” means that: COMPASSION. That’s why a draft dodger like “The Scooter” will warm up to conservative like Romney. All a U.S. soldier is hope to get for his dedication to his country is empty lip serve, especially in Iraq. But he is guarantee to get the “shaft.” Therefore, no pardon for Anthony Circosta.

    What? You’re not making sense.

  15. Devil's Advocate says:

“Massachusetts? Romney is just another liberal neocon acting as a conservative.”

Depending on the group he is facing, the day of the week, and the time of day, you will get a straight answer from that moron. Of course, the straight answers keep changing.

Romney and his campaign crew must think that Anericans have an I.Q. in the low double-digits. Romney is so obviously a panderer that he should be embarrassed by his own behavior. Since he is clearly another sociopath, he does not even have a clue that most people see that his machinations are so transparent that no one believes in them.

As for his supposed “good looks”, yuck! He looks like a Ken doll and sounds just about as intelligent. Of ccourse, the MSM is drooling all over him. Goes to show you the intellectual level of the MSM.

  16. gummitch says:

I thought Mitt was a 2nd Amendment guy. Someone who uses a gun should get a medal, right? But, seriously, what kind of creep refuses a pardon to a war hero because he shot someone with a BB gun? I just cannot believe anyone could be that petty. FY,M!

I hope so! Maybe Stella is not who I think it is….

Stella has said that the Republicans are more liberal than the Democrats since I first met him.

    I don’t see a difference in #11.

I wonder how a kid who shot another with a BB gun, but didn’t even break the skin, gets a criminal record? Grounding, lose the BB gun, lectures…..but a record? Wow.

  20. darth vader says:

this HAS to be a joke right? – and guys like this are the best that america can come up with to choose a president from? – out of 300 million people?….. circosta? mmm… that’s a rather hispanic sounding name – or maybe it’s…..arabic!! – and he shot an american!!! – quick mitt, double guantanamo and throw his ass in there and make the world a safer place to be……you f**khead!!

  21. Jake says:

At least Libby did not shoot Plame with a BB gun.

  22. Gregor Samsa says:

Romney – The poster boy for “compassionate conservatism”:

Obviously I haven’t seen that, Mr P — hence the confusion.

“clearly abused prosecutorial discretion” by going on a “political vendetta”

What’s Kenneth Starr got to do with this?

  26. Armando Gomez says:

Mitt Romney should pardon Anthony Circosta before he pardon The Scooter.

  27. Jay Randal says:

Romney is Mormon trash, so he must never be allowed to become president of the United States. Mormonism is a cult > PERIOD.

that is the best example of John Edward’s two Americas that I have seen in a while.
Do not vote Mitt. Mitt would not make a good president……. he would imitate Bush

  30. Anais says:

If true, the hypocrisy of the major GOP presidential candidates never ceases, and never ceases to amaze. The original incident involving the Iraq War vet at age 13 sounds strange, though. I thought juvenile records were not taken into consideration when a person became an adult. Can anyone familiar with the case shed light on this?

  31. MsJoanne says:

Everybody know MAsssuckssit, is liberal town.

    Comment by Stella Octangula

Stella, dear, Massachussetts is a state, not a town. Go back to Regents for another year or five. Maybe by then you will even be able to point to it on a map (you know, a pretty colored little thing that proves our earth is flat).

If that post isn’t proof positive why we have elected Republicans, nothing is. The epitome of a dumbed down America.

I suppose lying to help cover up a treasonous act is perfectly fine in many parts of this country (including most of capitol hill). What a laughing stock our country has become.

  32. DM says:

Fitz is the enemy of Republicans. Not because of his politics, but because of his ethics. You have to wonder about people who hate someone because he does his job really well.

Has Deval Patrick pardoned the guy?

  35. Zimzone says:

  36. veritas says:

Nitwit Mitt is now “flipflopper Mitt” to suit his own political purposes. This guy’s just a little too slick for me. Somehow when I hear him speak, I am reminded of a bad used car salesman. Why is that?

  37. Kate Henry says:

“I wonder how a kid who shot another with a BB gun, but didn’t even break the skin, gets a criminal record?”

Anyone want to bet that this guy is black? It is totally insane that this person has a record for such a minor transgression. And I expect that his conviction was a felony because I don’t think that a misdemeanor would preclude his being a police officer. So much for our criminal justice system.

  38. upside00 says:

#33 – I guess pardoning this makes child shooters above the law.

    Comment by m12

Nice try, m12, would you call your kid a child shooter if it was he or she in the same situation? If so, you are even a sicker puppy than you appear to be in your posts here. If not, then you are a typcial hypocrite, just like your fellow blind, ignorant NeoCon supporters.

  41. Coffins draped with flags says:

Just another flip floppin’ flip flopper. These Republics just can’t make up their minds. If you listen to what Romney says, he is dumb as dirt. He might only be 2 points smarter than boy Bush and that still puts their combined IQ’s in the mid 80’s.

  42. Coffins draped with flags says:

We object to this mistreatment of one of our returning military heros by someone who didn’t fight in this war.

    SIGNED:
All the American military that returned from Iraq in flagged draped coffins.

  43. Jackie says:

Mitt is showing Americans that using a BB gun is a worse crime then lying under oath and helping get 3500 plus US soldiers killed based on lying. Lying for the Vice President is not a crime as Mitt sees it. Now Hillary Clinton had a run in her stocking and that should get her put in Gitmo. Mitt has to support Libby as to save face with the Republican criminal team. Some Republicans believe that a convicted Republican shouldn’t be treated like the rest of Americans. Mitt needs votes so he’ll say anything. I just hope he doesn’t let his true feelings about Blacks come out during his campaign. He loves to think of blacks as Tar Babies and who knows what he thinks of poor Whites. Those racist comments are kept of the record.

  44. ed pefferman says:

Scooter Libby should be shot as a traitor, not jailed as a liar.

His boss, ElDuce should be shot and then hung from a lamp post

  45. dantheman says:

CONSERVATIVES WAKE UP! You’re backing a cheating, lying, soulless, corrupt, losing team. You’ve been bamboozeld and hucklebucked. The conservatives don’t care for America nor what it stands for. They don’t care about the world or the environment. They don’t care about the middle class. They obviously don’t care about the poor. They don’t care about your nor your children’s education. They don’t care about healthcare. They don’t even care about your safety. The only thing that matters to them is taking care of the uber rich. That’s it. The writing is on the wall and recent history proves where their values trully lay. Just analyze everything that’s been going on from a third party or neutral perspective. If you view these consevatives and their policies objectively, there is only one logical conclusion. Seek the truth. It’s waiting for you.

  46. m12 says:

    #34

Still looking for an answer! If this guy is such a hero, why hasn’t the new governor pardoned him?

  47. m12 says:

    #43

And Clinton showed us that evading taxes and stealing money from the post office isn’t a crime at all.

Oh, and as long as you’re the President’s brother, you can do whatever you want, too!

  48. bjalder26 says:

Circosta admits to committing the crime. It’s questionable whether or not Libby committed any crime or whether this is just a political move in a largely democratic city. Serving in the military doesn’t mean that you deserve a pardon. Not committing a crime means that you do, that’s what Romney will be looking at in the Libby trial.

  49. Loonie says:

Patrick Fitzgerald “clearly abused prosecutorial discretion” by going on a “political vendetta” against Libby despite knowing he was not the original source of the leak.

Ahhhh, so he should have put Cheney away. Yes, I agree.

  50. Hyrum says:

This guy is just another John Kerry from the other side. He will say what he needs to say to get elected.

Mitt Romney went whining to the First Presidency of the LDS Church because I went back to work for the Democrats to keep Romney out fo the white house.
