“When the FBI asked Congress this spring to provide $3.6 million in the war spending bill for its Gulfstream V jet, it said the money was needed to ensure that the aircraft, packed with state-of-the-art security and communications gear, could continue to fly counterterrorism agents on ‘crucial missions’ into Iraq.” Instead, it is “now routinely used to ferry FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to speeches, public appearances and field office visits.”

Male U.S. veterans are twice as likely to die by suicide than people with no military service, and are more likely to kill themselves with a gun than others who commit suicide, researchers said on Monday.”

“For the first time in five years, President Bush will attend the Senate Republicans’ weekly policy lunch today as he pushes to revive his moribund overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws.” But several Republican senators “issued a terse warning yesterday: Don’t expect much.”

“The nation’s growing cadre of home healthcare workers are not entitled to minimum wages or overtime pay under federal law, even if they work for private employers, the Supreme Court ruled today.”

“The first priority for the next president of the World Bank is to smooth ruffled feathers among the staff after the turbulent exit of Paul Wolfowitz, according to the leading contender to replace him.” Robert Zoellick acknowledged the staff has been “bruised and somewhat frustrated and there will be a need to calm the waters.”

A new U.N. report concludes that “civilian casualties continue to mount” in Iraq, despite the Bush administration’s escalation. Violence has now spread beyond Baghdad, “to other parts of the country,” and the Baghdad morgue is overflowing with corpses.

CentCom commander Gen. William Fallon, the top American military official for the Middle East, “has warned Iraq’s prime minister in a closed-door conversation that the Iraqi government needs to make tangible political progress by next month to counter the growing tide of opposition to the war in Congress.”

“The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan has worsened in the last year and civilians are bearing the brunt of suicide attacks and aerial bombing raids, the International Committee of the Red Cross said on Tuesday.”

280: Number of colleges and universities that “have agreed to raise awareness about global warming and limit their institutions’ emissions in moving toward ‘climate neutrality.’”

And finally: Frustrated that he “risked being late for a TV interview on Saturday” because streets around the Italian Senate were blocked for President Bush’s visit, Italian Sen. Gustavo Selva called an ambulance to rush him to the studio. As he later boasted on television, Selva “dialed 118 for an ambulance asking to be rushed to his heart specialist — giving the TV studio’s address.” Selva may now face criminal charges for his stunt.

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.

Translation: If you don’t justify our occupation of Iraq, we just might have to render you to GitMo as an enemy non-combatant.

That’s quite stupid. If someone works over 40-hours a week at ANY job, I thought they would be entitled to overtime pay. This is a form of discrimination in my book. Home healthcare workers have it especially tough.

There is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between Democrats and Republicans now – they’re all complicit thugs…..even Obama who was the most shocking “no show” of all!

The anger of the american people will fall most heavily on the Democrats whom they believed to be “their savior” during the mid-terms…..the first clue was Pelosi’s “impeachment is off the table” comment – how dare her??? How dare her state that when it’s not her “choice or option” when there is evidence of high crimes?? The second lightning bolt of awareness was how easily the Dems caved on the Iraq spending bill when it was clear that THE ONLY WAY to stop this amoral, illegal war was to close the purse strings immediately. Perhaps too many Dems are “on the take” with the war profiteering???? I suspect so!

The third and final blow was yesterday’s “straw vote” where 3 Democratic candidates for President thumbled their noses in the faces of those who trusted them and placed them in power by not even showing up for the “symbolic vote”.

Symbolically and realistically, Obama’s campaign is HISTORY! Symbolically and realistically, Biden’s, Dodd’s, McCain’s, Brownback’s, and Lieberman’s respective campaigns are also HISTORY. If one candidate can show up to vote, they all could have shown up!

If the plan is to attack Iran from the sea, then an admiral is a likely man to be in charge.

Now we have a navy man in charge of centcom and a navy man in charge of a “land” war.
I think it looks like a plan for widening the war to the region.

An attack on Iran would bring plenty of unintended consequences – but that has never stopped Bush&Co in the past.

Additionally, remember that Reid doesn’t control those Criminal Republicans. By the Republicans NOT joining the Dems on this vote it speaks very loudly. They the Republican Killers prefer “criminal behavior” for THEIR party. These current Republicans have no ethics, no morals, no honor, and no credibility at ALL. Nada. Henceforth, they “shall” be taken to the woodshed in 2008.

For many military families this just MOVTIVATES us more to hunt, corner Republican “prey” and to work hard at “sending them home in 2008”. Each one here needs to realize that there is no reason to BASH Leader Reid, as he is working hard for the Middle Class people.

My personal feast will be 2 certain Republican individuals to feast on. I already have the leg of one, and the arm of another.

Even though our family is NOT in Reid’s state, we have had past requests honored and he does listen. There are many things that go on behind the curtain that have been accomplished to assist military families.

Our efforts need to be placed in the REMOVAL of all criminal Republican MURDERERS (in my eyes they are, for killing our troops) whether it be in the House or the Senate. If you live in a state (or near a neighboring state) with a RED one, start now in organizing efforts to “send him/her home in 2008”!!!!! Most Americans would like to see this president and vice president impeached and removed from office. Newsweek magazine published a scientific poll last October showing that 51 percent of us favor impeachment (including 29 percent of Republicans!), but the corporate media, which normally haven’t met a poll they won’t publish, didn’t publicize this one. And now, when the numbers supporting impeachment are surely even higher, you can’t even pay a polling outfit to ask the question. No wonder most people who favor impeachment still think they’re odd ducks

  41. Briseadh na Faire says:

It’s interesting to watch as the drama unfolds. Yesterday’s “meaningless” vote has apparently scuttled the campaigns of the closests challengers to Hillary, making Ms. Clinton the early odds-on favorite to win the Democratic nomination.

Cindy Sheehan throws her hands up in disgust, and other intelligent, informed people do likewise: nothing moves the proletariat, they are too absorbed in Paris Hilton, American Idol, etc. The masses can be stirred to outrage, but it takes drastically reducing their standard of living before that will occur. “We the People” just don’t care, or, perhaps they came to Ms. Sheehan’s conclusion long ago: we are powerless to affect change. The system is so rigged by the ruling class that nothing we do matters.

The masses lost faith and hope in the political system years ago. Nothing that has transpired since the last election has done anything to restore that faith, that hope. They are too easily disillusioned. Any faux pas, even if it is contrived, or a false rumor, is sufficient to doom anyone who would truly lead them out of their stupor.

    But there is another way:
I continue to pray that those who know of wrongdoing by the ruling class and those serving in government continue to come forward with testimony and evidence.

You are welcome to join me.

You’re right about no overtime pay on the salaried front, but how many healthcare aids are salaried? If many of those jobs are hourly, this could drive people away from a field that already has a tough time looking for these kinds of workers. The ruling is telling these professionals that their skills and stamina are not appreciated. We’re ushering into a new era of seniors who need this specialized care, so their ruling isn’t timely.

Seven Senators Did NOT Bother To Vote
    Tuesday 12th of June 2007
    by Jay Randal

7 US Senators decided not to bother to vote on cloture motion to censure Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, so prevented vote of “No Confidence” to punish him.

3 of the non-voters were Democrats: Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Chris Dodd, and Sen. Barack Obama, who are running for president and now damaged their chances.

4 of non-voters were GOPers: Sen. Sam Brownback, Sen. Tom Coburn, Sen. John McCain, and Sen. Ted Stevens, who are dumb and 2 are running for president.

Americans expect members of Congress to show-up to do their jobs, so when they fail to vote they go AWOL from their responsibilities, so must retire from Senate.

Whomever advised Sen. Obama to not show-up to vote have very seriously damaged his chance to be elected next president in 2008 and enhanced other candidates.

The other 4 presidential candidates are finished now!

(Jay Randal, political activist and writer in Georgia, USA.)

[NOTE: Sen. Ted Stevens showed-up, but voted "present" so basically the same as not voting. One Democrat Senator is still in the hospital recovering from brain surgery, so has an excuse for NOT voting, but Biden, Brownbeck, Coburn, Dodd, McCain, & Obama have no excuse.]

He’s already said “I’ll see you at the signing” of the immigration bill. He can’t back down now. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rejected on Monday another prominent senator’s call for a military strike against Iran, saying a U.S. attack would destabilize the Middle East.
Exactly. Hasn’t destabilizing the Middle East been the whole idea since about mid-morning 9/11/01? (Actually, in a sense, it’s been the whole idea since around 1998.)

Related: Power Line’s John Hinderaker looks at Sen. Reid’s poll numbers:

Scott Rasmussen’s latest survey has Harry Reid in a dead heat with Scooter Libby, each with a 19% approval rating. And Reid hasn’t even been convicted of anything yet! Rasmussen attributes Reid’s dismal standing to his visibility on the immigration bill, and that no doubt played a part. I suspect, though, that word of the Democrats’ corruption is starting to leak out.

UPDATE: One more thing–given that President Bush’s approval rating is approximately double Harry Reid’s, how soon do you think the media will start referring to Reid’s “unpopularity” and his low approval ratings every time he’s mentioned in a story?

Yeah, that’s what I think, too.

Well, as it turns out the president should have been a mite bit more suspicious too. From Sapa dpa (A news wire)

ITALIAN REPORTS: Did somebody steal Bush’s watch in Albania?

US President George W Bush may have had his watch stolen while greeting crowds in Albania, Italian media outlets reported on Tuesday, using images of the alleged incident taken by Albanian television network News24.

Bush on Sunday visited Fushe Kruja, a small town some 30 kilometres from the capital Tirana, a day after paying an official visit to Italy.

Footage appearing on Italian newspapers and websites show Bush wearing his watch at the beginning of his visit. But within seconds of shaking hands with the crowds, the watch looks to have disappeared.

Daily Corriere della Sera said Bush had not reported the theft.

Images of him boarding Air Force One ahead of leaving Tirana show him with a watch back on his left wrist.

It makes no sense to alienate home healthcare workers from mainstream society with less than minimum wages, even if you are a rethuglican. How are they going to contribute to their new society (assuming they may be immigrants) if they pay no taxes? Is this another attempt to send them home for refusing to clean up our bedpans

What can possibly remain for us to deliberate here when facing treasons acts like this one:
Video recording leads to felony charge

Brian D. Kelly didn’t think he was doing anything illegal when he used his video camera to record a Carlisle police officer during a traffic stop. Making movies is one of his hobbies, he said, and the stop was just another interesting event to film.
Now he’s worried about going to prison or being burdened with a criminal record.

When do we throw down the gauntlet?

Re: the plane story…I can’t stomach the MSM “news”, so does anyone know if they have picked up this story?

Or does the Regressive Right only have screeching convulsions about use of a gov’t jet if you’re 3rd in line to the presidency?

“Male U.S. veterans are twice as likely to die by suicide than people with no military service, and are more likely to kill themselves with a gun than others who commit suicide, researchers said on Monday.”

    OMFG! Be still my heart!

TP has actually posted something considerate of males! And it doesn’t even have a Feminist slant!

    Wow!

    Thanks TP!

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the averted terrorist attack at the G8 summit. I will give the benefit of the doubt because the story was buried in a story about chasing down Greenpeace boats.

Sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that US security men tested German security by trying to smuggle C4 plastic explosive past a checkpoint at Heiligendamm.

German surveillance machinery detected the tiny stash in a suitcase in a car and the Americans in plainclothes then identified themselves. German police declined comment.

Yeah, that’s the ticket. We were just testing your security.

    As translated by Google:

    Americans tested explosive smuggling

US security forces tested controls around the G8-Summit in Heiligendamm after German Press Agency information with the transport of a small quantity explosive. The plastic explosive of the type C4, hidden in a suit-case, was discovered by the German police officers in a dashboard in a car, experienced the German press agency on Thursday. Although it concerned a “very small quantity”, the transillumination technology struck alarm, it was said. Thereupon the civilian dressed passengers would have given themselves to recognize as US security forces.

The G8-Polizeieinheit Kavala did not want to confirm the incident of Tuesday on request. Speaker Axel Falkenberg pointed out only that the police for such cases had established a close safety net. As a check also particularly trained trackhounds were used.

    ThinkProgress, you missed this one:

A media campaign portraying Iran as supplying arms to the Taliban guerrillas fighting U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, orchestrated by advocates of a more confrontational stance toward Iran in the George W. Bush administration, appears to have backfired last week when Defence Secretary Robert Gates and the commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Dan McNeil, issued unusually strong denials.
