The entire federal government has been politicized by the Bush administration. We must remain actively involved in supporting progressive democratic candidates at all levels of government. We must organize ourselves and volunteer our time to change the direction of our country. The 06 elections are but a small step towards restoring America to it's rightful place. The playing field is not level as Bush's chronies are embedded in all the levels of government ready to sabotage our democracy. It is also time to ratchet up the pressure on congress to begin to impeach all who fail to meet the highest ethical standards of government.

Yes, there's NO "understanding" between the US auto industry, US government and Big Oil when it comes to the price of fuel in this country....

We dont get the Honda Accords that get 56mpg and the VW Lupos that get 78 mpg that are sold ad nauseum in Europe and Japan because we REALLY and TRULY dont want those kinds of fuel saving cars  [\sarcasm]

People, wake up...

Obviously the DoT sees itself as representing the auto manufacturers, not we the people. I'm sure that they don't see any conflict there.

Hey Greg, check out used Volvos, if you can find one, They run really tall, are incredibly tough, safe, and get good mileage. Parts are pretty cheap and available too.

You're right, Zoo. I meant to add "arrogant" to the "dumb" part. And, of course, the entire administration is doing everything it can to create the atmosphere where they can get away with just about anything. There are times when I hope that there really is a hell, because that's where these people belong.

See you after The Daily Show.

Whether the transportation secretary is allowed or not to do what has been done I can only say this.....

I am right now shopping for a new / used car.... I am 6ft 2 with a 48 chest and a 40 in gut.

There are NO CARS AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW THAT I FIT IN without risk of a serious SPINAL CORD INJURY in the event I was in a car accident and my body jumped the '1/2 INCH' that is in between my head and the roofs of the cars that are on the market.

I am now leaning towards an SUV.... but again that would make me one of the bad guys, right?

Well my wife just gave birth to our first baby boy, and he is a big baby and will just like me, be big and tall. He will most likely be taller than me, just as I was taller than my Dad, and just like my Dad was taller than my Grandfather.

With these new 'mandates' that are going to be pushed onto automobile manufactuers... how small are the cars going to be in 20 years when it's my son's turn to go out and have to drive, be a passenger, have a family, etc?

Picking on Automobiles is so easy... yet when will the politicians start addressing the real problems of pollution... like the total lack of mass transit systems that are efficient and affordable?

How about all of the Civil Service buildings that are across the United States.. how about modernizing them with Solar and Fiber Optic lighting?

Continue to pick on the cars... and watch your politicians who vote for these types of measures be VOTED RIGHT OUT OF OFFICE.

This is one of the biggest problems the Democratic Party has.... their onslaught against Automobiles.

The facts are todays cars and trucks are getting 2x - 4x the gas mileage automobiles delivered back in the 1970's..... but there is a limit... and there is this other thing called Safety.

I'd like to see Chris Dodd.... CT Senator running for President .... sit in a Sedan and take a road trip with the family..... put a baby seat in the car along with a stroller.... and take a 5 hour ride somewhere.. then tell me and everyone else how enjoyable the ride was.

Not just mad, Zookeeper, STUPID, too. With all of the scrutiny this administration is currently receiving, particularly in regard to politicization of what are supposed to be non-political departments, you'd think that they would all try to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. But, no, they're too dumb for that. They know what their jobs are - to advance their agenda, regardless of laws.
