‘Iraqi security forces lose equivalent of NYPD in 18 months.’»

Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey yesterday told a congressional committee that approximately 18,000 members of the U.S.-trained Iraqi police “had been lost from the newly trained force of 188,000 in the 18 months before January. … Between eight to 10,000 are believed killed in action and six to 8,000 more have been wounded severely enough so they cannot serve. Dempsey also says possibly 13,000 more have deserted or are unaccounted for.”

  2. Spudge_Boy Says:

Is the Iraqi police force in its last throes?

  3. heyzeus Says:

This could be considered a surge.
Albeit in the wrong direction, but alas,
every action has an equal and opposite reaction……………

  4. Badmoodman Says:

Equivalent of the NYPD? Oh, then Rudy will no doubt have the answer to this problem. Or maybe he’ll just defer to Bernie Kerik.

  5. Damian Says:

They stand up, we stand down. Stand up, stand down. Up, down.

    Get it?

  6. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

18, 000 Iraqis stand down and the U.S. sends in 20,000 more Americans to stand up. Purge and surge.

  7. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

The Iraqis didn’t get chocolates and flowers from the U.S. I guess.

  8. Damian Says:

    Freedom’s untidy and stuff happens.

  9. spit take Says:

See, this is the liberal media at work. You only hear about teh eight-to-ten thousand police officers killed and six-to-eight thousand disabled. You never hear about the Iraqi police officer who rescues a kitten from a tree or the one who buys a lost little Iraqi boy and ice cream cone.

    Sheesh.

Does that excuse make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

  12. Zimzone Says:

Do you think we’ll run out of Iraqi’s before we run out of Rightards?

  13. Holy Joe Loserman Says:

We are making progress in Iraq. Stay the course!

  14. Juan C Says:

Spudge, I guess Damian is being ironic. (Lets hope)

  15. Namtillaku Says:

They’re taking their guns with them too, which they are putting to good use.

    Brilliant!

  17. Anonymous By Choice Says:

10,000 dead… that should be awful.

They may be fathers. Leaving women and children without them.

But really… I don’t care about a single Iraqi. They’re all religious nuts, and I continue to hope for a way to nuke the entire middle east without a backlash of some kind.

I know that’d be impossible, so I don’t have my hopes up. But it’s nice to dream.

I’m guessing that you’re a Hitler idolater too, eh? Can’t get enough killing can you?

  19. Fed the Fcuk Up! Says:

If we’re supposed to “stand down when they stand up”, then what are we supposed to do when they subsequently fall down, fall up?

  20. Spudge_Boy Says:

    “They’re all religious nuts”

That is like somebody in the Middle East thinking we are all like you. That would be just plain stupid, because Bush and his followers only make up 28% of the country.

    ” I don’t care about a single Iraqi. They’re all religious nuts.”

And you don’t think Amurika has a bunch of religious nuts? Why, golly gee, they’re in constant contact with the “deciderloadofcrap.” Do you forget that God “called him to invade”? Now there’s a religious wacko-nut case!

  28. PaulB Says:

Iraq never really had a history of religious stupidity until now. America on the other hand has been riddled with insane religious morons for many many years.

  29. Dan Says:

These numbers are STAGGERING! Is this for real!!?

  30. Dan Says:

I don’t care about a single U.S. soldier. They’re mercenaries for ExxonMobil. They’ve brought a HOLOCAUST to innocent Iraqis, 600,000 of whom have died as a result of Bush’s lust for oil. I happen to believe that killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people for a “steady energy supply” is about as evil a reason to kill people as the reasons Adolph Hitler used. Our troops are NOT heroes… they are perpetrating a horrific evil in Iraq.

  31. Dan Says:

I only care about the innocents. That’ it for me.

I hate religion. and I think it is a real contributing problem, if not the problem. But I never dreamed the answer was annihilating those I disagree with. That kind of thinking is a problem larger than religious zealotry, IMHO.

  33. Lee gordon Says:

    DanB
all religion is a history of religious stupidity. Believing in Tinkerbell, and all the rest of that crap, is stupidity. Believing from NEED and not facts is stupid. Simply stupid. There, here, and everywhere.
