Pelosi and Reid write Bush:

By Nico Pitney on Jun 13th, 2007 at 6:11 pm

Pelosi and Reid write Bush:

The escalation is a failure.

As many had foreseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results. The increase in U.S. forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation. It has not enhanced America’s national security. The unsettling reality is that instances of violence against Iraqis remain high and attacks on U.S. forces have increased.

    Response from the White House:

    Dear American Citizen,

Due to the overwhelming amount of mail that the White House receives on a daily basis, the President may not be able to personally respond to all letters. We assure that your letter has been read and has not been thrown into the trash immediately.

    God Bless America,

  12. JG says:

Instead of writing to the WH where nobody gives a damn what they think, why doesn’t every single elected person in both halls of Congress write a letter to EVERY constituent in the US with a questionaire, inviting them to either answer direct questions about what they think, feel, and want, then actually read them, then actually act accordingly to what the people of this country WANT them to do!! They could get a clear picture REAL fast!

So why would Reid & Pelosi think a letter to the self-appointed decider have ANY effect on the wannabe fuhrer? Not worth the paper it was written on. Long past to put impeachment ON the table

I say, f*ck impeachment, order the immediate arrest and war crimes tribunal for Bush/Cheney & their sycophants in the very same courtroom for the Nazi war criminals in Nuremberg.

“On June 12, the former head of the US training operation in Iraq, General Dempsey, gave an assessment of the capability of Iraqi security forces that concluded that after years of effort and massive expenditure of resources, Iraqi units remain uneven in their quality and reliability.”

    Explanation trolls?

It’s a good letter. But, I’d just like to see more than words at this point. I’d like to see actions.

  22. smafdy says:

Bush (Black Bart) wants the contract for the oil (the deed to Grandma’s ranch), before he and his gang (Bushco) ride out of town. The mayor (Reid) and the schoolmarm (Pelosi) are trying to negotiate on behalf of the Townsfolk (the troops and the American and Iraqi people).

Where the Fu(k is the Sheriff (Gonzales)? He works for Bart. Where’s the Cavalry and the Posse (our military and law enforcement officers)? Bart sent their asses on a wild goose chase in search of a phantom gang called the Terrists. “Ther Everwhar.”

  23. Blue Healer says:

Clearly the reason why letters to Bush have no impact is because W never learned to read! It doesn’t fall on deaf ears, but rather on blind eyes.

My advice to Pelosi and Reid… you should have not approved the bill that continues to give W all the money he wants to finance this war and his buddies at Halliburton etc etc. First impressions count, and all you did was show that you are spineless democrats! Damage done!

He doesn’t compromise… stop trying to compromise with him! You can’t make everyone happy, but get a bill specifying troop removal and you’ll make 77% of America happy.

  24. Hardy Haberman says:

Why.. I’m gonna ..respectfully throw my feather pen at you Mr. President if you don’t think about stopping the escalation… with all due respect.

  28. JG says:

If they actually ASKED the American people what the people wanted (which wasn’t that what the last election was about??..), then instead of not having the courage to push hard to do what is right themselves, they could just say that the American people had given them a mandate to take the steps necessary to do what is right. (Wait, again, isn’t that what we did in the last election?..)

If they were afraid of it affecting their chances for re-election, they could just say “the American people made me do it..”

  56. joe says:

Reid and Pelosi are just setting the table for their offensive this fall.

Look at where this country is politically, right now. Now imagine how it’s going to look after three more months of a failed “security plan,” a riled-up public demanding and end to the war (this frustation doesn’t hurt Pelosi and Reid’s efforts to pass the legislation they want, it helps), and the leadership of the Republican Party insisting that we stay the course.

I’ll tell you what it’s going to look like – it’s going to look like Pelosi and Reid ending the war however they want, with substantial Republican defections, and the “you don’t support the troops” charge being so weak that even the most lily-livered Democrat in Nebraska won’t be afraid to keep ramming a withdrawal down Bush’s throat until he signs a bill, or the funding runs out.

I’d rather the Democratic victory against this war happened sooner rather than later, too. But most of all, I want it to happen, and whatever Reid and Pelosi do to keep the failure of this war and the need to end it on the front burner until the vote on the appropriations bill is fine with me.

  62. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Dear Pelosi and Reid:

Your efforts to hold the Bush Administration accountable are a failure!

The minute you took impeachment off the table, you gave Bush a free pass. Your lame excuse that He had you over the barrel on the troop funding issue is just that: a lame excuse. You could have had Him over the same barrel. But you chose to roll over and give Him the money to continue His war, no strings attached.

Go ahead, write letters, hold hearings, issue press releases. But unless you ACT to hold Bush accountable, all you do is entertain, not govern.

Yes, Republicans, along with Liebermann, showed they are willing and able to continue to support the Bush Administration, no matter what, but unless you continue to press the points, you will lose voters.

    PUT IMPEACHMENT ON THE TABLE

If you cannot do that, then at least have the courtesy to not run for re-election.

  63. CompTROLLER V-1 says:

    Mr. President,

  64. joe says:

“Why are democrats so quick to declare everything a failure? I know that cranking out more troops in that hell-hole may not have made for the best of plans, but why the excessive doomsday speak?”

Because the facts on the ground speak for themselves.

It’s not working. It’s getting worse. They just blew up the Golden Dome in Samarra. Again. Remember what happened last time? Even you people had to flip-flop from your “there is no civil war” talking points.

Quick to declare failure? Democrats spent three years trying to make this war succeed, even though they didn’t believe in it. There comes a time when you need to face facts.

It didn’t work. We can debate why later. Now, we have to stop throwing good money and lives after bad, and act like responsible adults.

This isn’t Scooby-Doo. “It’s GOT to work!” isn’t really a plan. You failed. The war is a failure. It’s time to swallow your stupid, partisan pride, and salvage what we can of our foreign policy and counter-terror strategy, while there’s still something to salvage.

Hitch up your pants, take a stiff drink, and look reality in the eye. It’s time – no, long past time – to do what needs to be done; abandon Bush’s little Stalingrad mission, and try to contain the damage you caused.

  65. faith says:

The leaders of the Democratic party are a joke. They have responded to this sitting president as individuals who are totally intimidated by the White House. Pelosi and Reid both should have been far more forceful and zealous in their efforts to contain any further spending for the Iraq debacle. Instead, they spent their time hedging and saying they supported the troops. Who cares about their letter? It is too late, they continue facilitating this president’s efforts to put off any pull out until the democrats get elected next year. Well, surprise, Speaker Pelosi and Mr. Reid. I suggest that many who would have supported the Democrats now intend to support a third party next year. All the democrats have demonstrated is a calm reassurance that they are getting their funds for their next elections from the same sources the republicans get theirs: lobbiests and corporations. I urge all readers to write Ms. Pelosi at the site “the gavel”. Let her know that you are discouraged and cynical about the lack of spine shown by the democratic party. Starting with Rahm Emanuel, Reid, et al.

Clearly you never supported the leaders, and won’t. Why don’t you admit it?

    • Pelosi became the first female minority leader in the history of the U.S., and the first female Speaker, as a result of leading 60% of House Dems to NAY votes on the Iraq Resolution.

She has resolutely opposed the war the whole time.

  67. Paul in LA says:

“Pelosi and Reid both should have been far more forceful and zealous in their efforts to contain any further spending for the Iraq debacle.” –faith

The reason WHY Bush has used the emergency spending bills to fund the war is that they have less democratic restrictions.

    • The actual defense budget, coming up, is a FAR more democratic process, and the ONLY place we stand a chance of restricting Bush’s activities overseas.

We did not have the votes to stop the emergency supplemental. You can cry if you want, but your tomatoes are better off in your sauce.

Paul, you’ve seen me on these boards long enough to know where I am coming from.

By the way, don’t knock magic if you haven’t tried it.

We don’t need votes for a conviction. We need the process. We need the trial to bring the facts to light. If Republicans and Liebermann vote to accquit in spite of the facts and based solely on Party loyalty, that, too, is part of the process and can be useful for voters to make informed decisions.

Finally, we do need conviction; the conviction necessary to say that this war is wrong and we aren’t going to authorize one more dime for it’s continuance. Democrats could have refused to authorized funding for anything other than a safe draw-down of the troops. If Bush continued to veto the funding, He would be the one undermining troop safety for political reasons.

Yes, I give Democrats their fair share of the blame. They were unwilling to filibuster when they were in the minority; they are unwilling to do anything other than what Bush dictates now that they are in the majority. Both parties have innocent blood on their hands.

And I can still see the grief-stricken face of the mother of one of our soldiers when she was handed the flag from her child’s coffin. 500 more kids have died since then, and you want me to go easy on the Democrats?

    No way.

I used to pray for those knowing of wrongdoing in the Bush Administration come forward with testimony and evidence. Not any more. Now, I pray that those who know of wrongdoing by the ruling class and those serving in government continue to come forward with testimony and evidence.

Pragmatism tends to be a slow but steady approach that allows a continuation of the wrongdoing, corruption or whatever the issue may be, at least for the short term and perhaps even much longer. That really doesn’t do it for me. Great posts, Briseadh na Faire!

Thanks. I don’t know that I would describe myself as an idealist at this point in time…a pi$$ed-off idealist, perhaps. Others have called me a Renaissance Man, a mage, a soul-worker. But really, I’m just a public school teacher, lawyer, and student of shamanism.

  80. Harry Truman says:

If Pelosi and Reid think its bad over there now wait till the Democrats Surrender and bring our Soldiers home then Iraq will become a Bloodbath.

  81. Harry Truman says:

jay they always ignore faxes and emails from people not in their district.

  82. JG says:

“If Pelosi and Reid think its bad over there now wait till the Democrats Surrender and bring our Soldiers home then Iraq will become a Bloodbath.”

Do you mean that it isn’t in a bloodbath now??

  83. Harry Truman says:

Kati I am Proud to inform you at this time that the Democrats are Weak and Spineless thats why they are viewed by Terrorist as Paper Tigers . that is why Bill Clinton Fought the Bosnian War at 30000 Ft .

  84. Jay Randal says:

Truman > they ignore letters even from those in their districts. I am sure one of Bush’s secretaries stamps the letter received from Reid and Pelosi, then files it away in a cabinet with all the other ones. Several members of Congress have one whole drawer for my letters. It is probably labeled “Asshole in Georgia” > lol.

  85. Harry Truman says:

it will be a bloodbath where the likes of have not been seen since we surrendered and ran from vietnam with our tail tucked between our legs . hundreds of thousands killed , many more sent to reeducation camps a few of the lucky ones who escaped made it here in leaky boats to start a new life .

  86. Harry Truman says:

    lestatdelc
Pelosi and Reid love terrorist and hate our troops Because they are Demwits

  87. JG says:

Sure, tell that to the Iraqis who aren’t fortunate enough to live in the Green Zone. I am sure they will appreciate that they are not living in a bloodbath at present. I am sure they are thanking us for the fact they have no electricity, no clean water and no fuel for their cars. I am sure they are appreciative we have not started this whole ball rolling that has cost their livelihoods, and the lives of their friends and families..
I am sure they are thanking us for it.

It is already bad. It is VERY bad and getting a whole lot worse.
Our being there is only making it worse AND putting big bullseyes on the backs of our soldiers who don’t even know who the friends are and who are the enemies (because they change from day to night)..

  88. JG says:

sorry – that we HAVE started this whole ball rolling. Well, WE haven’t, Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and all their PNAC friends have to take responsibility for that.

  89. Harry Truman says:

Stop Bush’s activities overseas NOW!!!!! so we can fight this war Here in the U.S. as a Criminal Justice Problem , after all thats how Bill Fought it , send in the F.B.I. heehehe . what fool.
its kind of Boring and I’d really Like to see how CNN ABC CBS MSNBC and HEADLINE NEWS would Cover it . at the very least I think that several Milliom Libearls would die real quick . Peace Dude .

  90. Harry Truman says:

and that may not be a bad thing .

  91. omamayomomma says:

JG of course its going to get worse . your guys were elected on promises that we would pull our troops out . they watch CNN over there too and know that Democrats have no stomach for war. they are Lazy , smoke dope , preach peace are week and spineless . and will not under any circumstances defend themselves . Did I miss anything ?

  92. Briseadh na Faire says:

All who predict a bloodbath, ie. genocide, assume that the U.S. will pull troops out and there will be no U.N. peacekeeping force.

Regardless, the bloodbath that has occured and the blood yet to be spilled, is on the hands of the RULING ELITE OF THE WORLD. And they don’t give a damned.

  100. Harry Truman says:

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE AID AND COMFORT TO THE ENEMY TODAY?

Democrats, with Harry Reid leading the pack, are telling President Bush that his troop surge in Iraq has failed. Now the language may be just a bit different, but what we really have here is leading Defeatocrats public stating that the U.S. is losing in Iraq. Once again we have our lovely Democrats bringing smiles to the faces of our enemies in Iran and Islamic terrorist goons worldwide.

I know that at this point you don’t have to be reminded of this … but Democrats are completely 100% invested in our losing in Iraq. Their chances of taking the White House in next year’s election rest entirely on their ability to convince the American people that the Islamic fascists are winning. Every insurgent bomb is a victory for Democrats. Every new school, hospital or retail store that opens in an Iraqi neighborhood is bad news.

Never before has an American political party be so eager for the defeat of American troops in battle.

Why is it that Democrats are always at the Front of the Aid and Comfort the Enemy Line ? well they do seem to like assisted suicide so it would only make sense.

Learn a bit of history, boy. It was President Roosevelt, followed by President Truman (the real one), that oversaw the US’s victory in WWII, while Prescott Bush, Dumbya’s granddad, had financial dealings with the Nazis.
BTW, Hillary would never have you.

bush is a typical right-winger: blind, deaf, and has a megaphone for a mouth. The comments by “Mr. President” prove my point.

  106. Antonio Sosa says:

Democrats are helping the enemies of the United States at the expense of all Americans. And they seem to be so blind and ignorant, that they don’t even realize it. They are as easily manipulated as uneducated people in Third-World countries. With US-haters like Pelosi, we need no outside enemies to destroy the United States. For example, Pelosy and Reid are helping the likes of Chávez, who is working with the Islamic terrorists. And they are believing Castro’s and Chávez’s lies agaist Colombia’s President Uribe, a friend of the United States.

  107. Antonio Sosa says:

lestatdelc is absolutely right: Pelosi and Reid love terrorist and hate our troops because they are Demwits! They also seem to hate the United States because they are ready to assist any enemy willing to do us harm–Castro, Chávez, etc.– and ready to harm any friend, such as Colombia’s President Uribe.
