“In his first public comments on the Bush administration’s surprise decision to replace him as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Gen. Peter Pace disclosed that he had turned down an offer to voluntarily retire rather than be forced out.”
To quit in wartime, he said, would be letting down the troops.
“One thing that was discussed was whether or not I should just voluntarily retire and take the issue off the table,” Pace said, according to a transcript released Friday by his office at the Pentagon.
“I said I could not do that for one very fundamental reason,” which is that no soldier or Marine in Iraq should “think — ever — that his chairman, whoever that person is, could have stayed in the battle and voluntarily walked off the battlefield.

June 15th, 2007 at 3:09 pmOf course he was. This administration doesn’t want to send someone in front of Congress for re-confirmation that can actually answer questions.
They’ll send a three star wannabe four star general to answer ‘Well that didn’t happen on my watch.’
Well, from what Harry Reid said, Pace would not have been reconfirmed anyway. I’m just wondering what the Democrats are going to do about confirming Pace’s replacement. I certainly hope they don’t rubber stamp him the way they did with Gates. It’s about time that the Democratic party grew a backbone.
June 15th, 2007 at 3:11 pmAww don’t worry Pace! You ALREADY let the troops down by being part of sending them there in the first place.
So shut up you whiney slime. You’re a disgrace to this country whether you are in power or not.

You can choose to take responsibility for what you indirectly advocate, and that is a war with Iran. It sure doesn’t make me look dumb. It’s straightforward, really. Democrats will share responsibility for Iran as they need to for Iraq.
Go clean out the barn, Rusty.
Traitor “dude.” Heh.
June 15th, 2007 at 3:31 pmIRAN – Pace was a major hinderance to Dear Leader’s and NeoBushCo’s effort to attack Iran. Chickenhawks idiots rule these days. Very scary…
June 15th, 2007 at 3:32 pmAnd please contradict the NEOCONS on this > This is NOT a Generational War ( their new neoconspeak) with Iran as they will want to portray it . We MUST call it (as it really will be) a NEW WAR in the Middle East. Progressives please – we need to use those words exactly. IRAN = NEW WAR brought to us by GOP/Republican Party/BushCo it is all the same.

June 15th, 2007 at 4:35 pmAn Official RNC Troll Dept. Announcement:
In response to several concerns about the errant messaging behavior of CompTROLLER V-1, we have to announce that CT V-1 went “offline†several weeks ago. We sent out several technicians but as they are skilled only in the latest technology, they could do little with the antiquated programming architecture and physical plant of CT V-1.
As near as we can tell, its fact-distortion algorithm was corrupted when it actually tried to grapple logically with a fact-based argument from one of TP’s longtime posters. Unfprtunaelt, it was not designed for this kind of service, and when the facts kept adding up against its position, CT V-1 apparently blew a circuit board, which is why we now advise our troll-American employees against actually addressing arguments head-on.
Our field ops told us the best thing to do would be to let CT V-1 roam the blogosphere, and its batteries would probably run out of juice before its screwed-up logic did too much damage to our side. Unfortunately, the batteries were the only thing that were built well on the thing. They’re the same batteries that the Mars Rover had.
Therefore, the best recommendation of the RNC Troll Dept. is, if you enounter CT V-1, please try not to draw any attention to it. It can only hurt our side.

I can tell you don’t watch the news, so allow me to reiterate: BOTH the administration and the Congress were unwilling to reconfirm Pace. Bad decision by both branches. A BAD one. Enjoy the war with Iran. Democratic discontent with the “anti-gay” comments is one element, the administration’s fascination with Iran is another. That bodes well to oust a very capable General.
Republicans love wars for profit, Democrats love it because its something big to complain about, fits with their constant “end of the world” vision.

Intelligence committees informed TRAITOR Bush over 2 years ago that attacking Iran would ALMOST CERTAINLY cause the 160,000 US soldiers to become the UNRELENTING TARGETS of the insurgents.
In other words, the Iraqis have been NICE to the OCCUPIERS to this point, and that attacking Iran would cause the

I believe I stated that. General Pace was not a hawk on Iran, admitted there was no evidence of intent from the Iranian government to supply insurgents in Iraq with weapons, etc. Admiral Mullen concurs with the administration, so he’s got himself a new job.
“Pace is a COWARD and a traitor, besides being a warcriminal, and an utter SUCK-UP to the traitor Rumsfeld — the worst SecDef in the history of the United States.”
I really don’t believe Pace to be any of those. He cares deeply for the troops and deserved another two-year term. He so happened to be JCS Chairman not long before Rumsfeld resigned. He even confronted Rumsfeld LIVE on detainee abuse.
