“Disability compensation for veterans severely wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, particularly the youngest, is set too low, creating a lifetime earnings gap with nondisabled peers,” according to a new draft study.
Other veterans being undercompensated, and by a “substantial margin,” said Christensen, are those left 100 percent disabled or unemployable at 45 or younger. [...]
CNA noted that a 25-year-old veteran who returned from war 100 percent disabled from physical wounds and was rated as unemployable by the VA began receiving $28,352 a year in disability compensation using 2005 rates. That amount was more than $11,000 short of the $39,447 needed annually to stay even with nondisabled peers, the study found.
Why does the Bush Administration hate our troops?
June 15th, 2007 at 11:29 amUse them, abuse them and then spit them out.
How do you sleep at night Chimpy and Darth?
June 15th, 2007 at 11:36 amI don’t think they hate them. You don’t hate things you own. You don’t hate your tools. You just don’t think about them.
June 15th, 2007 at 11:37 amDisposing of those Muslimshiteaters ™ requires a six-figure pension. I’m serious, it’s a tough task.

A smart craftsman takes care of his tools, though. Only a child or a fool leaves them out in the rain.

June 15th, 2007 at 12:13 pmThanks for your service, sorry you got part of your body blown off chasing ghost halfway around the world. Here’s a tin cup. Now please step aside I have to catch a jet to a fundraiser to protect the unborn. Remember me in the next election.
I hope all current and former military remember what has been thrust upon them.

June 15th, 2007 at 12:18 pmSad that it needs to be said but thanks Zooey.
June 15th, 2007 at 12:27 pmThe only thing good about the VA compensation is that the money received is tax free. Oh, and so far, 3.1% pay increases each year.
The major problem I see is that a young soldier coming back injured does not have the work history built up in Social Security to receive a decent SS disability paycheck.

Actually quite the opposite. As a mechanic and a networking engineer, I love my tools. My tools are what allows me to complete my job and get paid. Paid being what I would call victory.

Yep, Bush and Cheney really care about our troops. Throw them under the bus again. If they live, we’ll think about amending their benefits again. Or, maybe not.
June 15th, 2007 at 1:18 pmThe troops are pawns, just like everyone else (liberals, christians, middle-class Americans, basically anyone who’s not card carrying BushCo), in this administration’s checkers game.
June 15th, 2007 at 1:41 pmYou pot smoking, baby killing, flag burning, same sex marrying liberal wackos. This veteran is medicated for your protection.
