Bush promises to veto homeland security bill.
Yesterday, the House passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security, despite President Bush’s veto threat. The White House objects to a provision that would require DHS contractors to “pay their employees at least the local prevailing wage.” It also “funds the hiring of 3,000 new border patrol agents, rejects the cuts President Bush sought in the training and equipping of first responders, and improves aviation and port security.”

Obviously then, this would mean that Bush is trying to make us less safe by rejecting funding for things that would make us more safe. hard to argue with that one, trolls. And why does he object to the bill? Too expensive? No. Not enough funding for border patrol, training and first responder equipment? No. It’s because the government would have to pay workers hired by DHS a fair wage. THAT’S why he is threatening to veto it.
C’mon, trolls. Defend your emperor! Explain how by vetoing this bill just because it benefits workers in a way he and his corporate cronies don’t like is halping to make us safer.

The last thing you want in your security staff are people who are being paid a living wage. Much better to let them make up their salary in some other manner — like taking bribes.

Well Wayne, the way I see it, and I can’t speak for all of the trolls of course, but, it seems t’ me that President Bush is kinda like a Dad teaching his many children to ride bicycles.
Now, the goal is for the children to eventually be able to ride with out Daddy holding on to the handle bars and with out training wheels. So, if y’ look at it that way, Bush is really just showing how proud he is and how much confidence he has in us (the children), that is why he is letting go of the bars and leaving us to ride with out training wheels.

But that’s his stance. I’m attending the 1st District Dems meetings this fall to see if we can find someone to run against him in 08.
I absolutely agree. Earmarks should be made public and the lawmaker that introduced it should be attached to it. I am afraid there are only about 30 million people who actually give a d^mn about politics, though. There was one Senator who actually read the Patriot Act before voting on it and that was my man Feingold (I am lucky to have such an incredibly moral Senator). With the majority being morons I don’t think recording earmarks would make a difference.

See the immigration bill about to be passed is fraudulent, because the Homeland Security bill would increase border patrol agents on Mexican border and Bush does not want that to happen. Bush wants the border wide-open for drug smuggling and massive migration of cheap labor to continue to flood into the US. We are being betrayed by some in the Congress too.

Real issue… do we need another 12- 20 million of non english speaking people in the United States.
Our current education system sucks, THE NO STUDENT LEFT BEHIND DOES NOT WORK. And as usual NO ONE CARES.
Local, state and national politics are always at work when it comes to selecting, spending and taking care of THEMSELVES. Students are not a priority at any level.
Health care also IS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ISSUE. Just imagine what the health care will be with an additional 12-20 million

M12, why did you conveniently leave George Bush out of this? It’s his bill and he is the one who desperately wants it passed. I am at a loss as to why the Democrats are supporting it. I support the provisions to allow the immigrants to become citizens. But, all in all this bill is a giant give-away to corporate america. And it will ensure that there will be many more lost jobs for the people who live here. When Microsoft can hire an Engineer from India to work for $12,000 a year when they would have to pay an American $48,000 a year, which do you think Microsoft will do? First we export our jobs to India and now we are importing people from India to do our jobs here.

Just because a person does not speak English, it does not make them any less of a human being. If this truly is, for you, the “real issue”, then I would suggest that you should consider your own xenophobia to be a bigger issue.

There were to many inconsistencies with the votes in Ohio and the exits polling didn’t match the results! Repuke thugs the new gestapo were out in force to disenfranchise democratic voters. Claiming many voters were felons and couldn’t vote and the list goes on and on!

I may be just a dumb, liberal, libertarian, humanistic atheist, but is it really credible that God would tell someone to invade another country? I thought God wanted us to love one another. If you’re into that sort of thing, doesn’t it seem even the teensiest bit more reasonable to believe that it was the Devil who told Bush to do these things, and not God? That would make a lot more sense to me. If I believed in that sort of stuff. Which I don’t.
