A June 14 FoxNews.com article (retrieved via Yahoo cache) mischaracterized a question posed to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) during a press conference to convey the false impression that Reid suggested that Army Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of the multinational force in Iraq, is “incompetent.” FoxNews.com reported that Reid was asked whether he “considered Petraeus competent,” and that “Reid responded, ‘Not as far as I’m concerned.’ ” In fact, according to the transcript provided by Congressional Quarterly transcription services — as well as a video aired on Fox News Channel — Reid was asked whether he believed Petraeus was incompetent, answering, “Not as far I’m concerned.” Fox later altered the story online to accurately reflect the exchange but never issued a formal correction to note that a change had been made. Rather, the new version of the article simply changed the word “competent” to “incompetent,” indicating Reid’s denial that he regards Petraeus as incompetent. Fox News congressional correspondent Major Garrett, who is listed as having contributed to the FoxNews.com article, similarly mischaracterized the exchange on Fox News’ Special Report. Later in the program, after playing a video clip of the exchange, Fox News Washington managing editor and host Brit Hume properly characterized the exchange, but he did not note Garrett’s false report.
Reuters, which also reported the exchange, correctly noted, “Asked if he thought Petraeus was incompetent, Reid said, ‘Not as far as I’m concerned,’ but he added, ‘I’m not going to get into what I said or didn’t say.’ ”

That’s what gives him his power, and he loves it! He’s not going to go vouluntarily, because as a Republican he’d be in a majority for only 1 1/2 years before going back into the minority permanently. He’s much more influential as a rogue Democrat than as just another Republican stooge. He can’t go on TV and posture as a “centrist” if he switches sides.
But if he waits until after 2008 and the Democrats pick up at least 2 seats, then Reid can tell Lieberthug to kiss his ass!

Lieberman created the party last August to run for re-election as an independent after losing the state’s Democratic primary to Ned Lamont of Greenwich. However, Lieberman never joined the new party and remains a registered Democrat.

Second of all, if you look at the vote results from last November Holy Joe received the bulk of his votes from the Repugnican Party and Independents. If you had obtained your news from a source other than Faux “news” you’d already know that Holy Joe lost the Democratic primary and the bulk of “liberal” votes in Connecticut went for Ned Lamont – the person who would be the Senator from Connecticut, not Joe who is the Senator from Israel with an office in Hartford.

Lieberman leaving wouldn’t change control of the Senate. They’d need a new organizing resolution to do that, and the Dems could filibuster it. Lieberman would keep his chairmanship, but we would be quickly disabused of the pretense that he’s a “moderate Independent Dem” rather than the warmongering master racist we all know him to be.
Whoever Lieberman caucuses with, the existing organizing resolution is here to stay. And since he already votes with the NeoCons, even if he did switch, he couldn’t change the committee assignments – he’d just keep using his chairmanship to shield the administration, which is no change from now.
But he won’t switch, because being the “Independent Dem” who trashes Dems gets this snivelling lickspittle master racist media whore camera time his negilgible power and accomplishments would never otherwise have earned him.

Conservatives aren’t such big fans of the draft, did you know? An all-volunteer military tends to work pretty well in this country. If people don’t want to serve, for example, in GW Bush’s military, they don’t have to.
