Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on CBS Face the Nation this morning:
SCHIEFFER: Well, you said the other day — and I’m going to use your words here — the handwriting is on the wall, that we are going in a different direction in the fall, and I expect the president to lead it. What did you mean by that, Senator?
MCCONNELL: Well, by that, I mean the surge is going to come to an end, obviously. It’s now — the buildup in troops is now complete. It will obviously go on over the summer. I think everybody anticipates that there’s going to be a new strategy in the fall. I don’t think we’ll have the same level of troops, in all likelihood, that we have now. The Iraqis will have to step up, not only on the political side, but on the military side, to a greater extent. We’re not there forever. I think they understand that. And the time to properly evaluate that, it strikes me, is in September.
This surge will produce results and we will send in more troops in September to keep the pressure on.
June 17th, 2007 at 3:23 pmLong line of “expectations” by Republicans of late :
We expect to be greeted with candy and flowers
We expect democracy to spread in the middle east
We expect to win the 2006 midterm elections
We expect to find the leaker in the Plame Case
We expect this “surge” to qwell the violence in the six months ***** (times up dickheads)
need i say more?

June 17th, 2007 at 3:28 pmMCCONNELL: Well, by that, I mean
a. the surge is going to come to an end, obviously.
b. It’s now — the buildup in troops is now complete.
c. It will obviously go on over the summer.
pick one…
June 17th, 2007 at 3:30 pmMCCONNELL: We’re not there forever.
Obviously he hasn’t heard what Petraeus is putting forth now about the “korean model”.
The Republicans don’t know what their left and right hands are doing, even though both are jerking Bush’s pud at the same time.

June 17th, 2007 at 3:32 pmHe’s lying.
June 17th, 2007 at 3:37 pmHe believes in “fighting them there instead of here”.
He and the Republicans hope to salvage their dead party before the elections so they can occupy some more by some miracle they hold on to any semblance of power.

Republicans politicians like McConnell ,who will be fighting to keep his seat next year, are unhappy about ‘no end’ to this war for another year,a crucial 2008 election’s year
That will make the GOP a history party, and the ‘Red states’ will start to show some ‘Blue colors’ in them soon if this war continues.
I think GOP took the South for granted for a long time.
Of course, Bush & Co. are not in any race or political run,so why worry?!!
But for McConnell…he will be facing a tough come back.
June 17th, 2007 at 3:52 pmThat’s why he is talking and keeping his seat and his re-election in mind approaching year 2008.
Just hum along that old tune (with a new word): “Screw you in September…”
We’re stealing oil in Iraq, so we don’t have to steal oil here… oops, there’s no oil left to steal back in the pumped-out and driained-out USA oilfields.
We’re setting up fasicst thug puppet governments over there, so we don’t have to set up fascist thug puppet governments over here, oops, we already have set up a fascist thug puppet government in the USA: it’s called BushCo…
Mitch the Bitch, just another lying whore for the Bush oil-fascist crime family…
June 17th, 2007 at 4:15 pmMAF54 – How many tours have you done in Iraq or anywhere else? SWait…. I forgot, you are a NeoCon Chickenhawk troll and have the same military record (and credibility) as the rest of the comedians in the BushCo WH.
Glad we have that cleared up.
June 17th, 2007 at 4:24 pmmy favorite quote from this spin:
“The Iraqi government has been a pretty big disappointment [...]
We’ve given them an enormous opportunity here, over the last four years, to have a normal country.
And our commitment will not be there forever.”
eh…
“opportunity”? … “normal country”? …”commitment”?
whoa… some serious delusion there…
…
and just WHY is the MINORITY anybody on these shows ??? …

June 17th, 2007 at 4:51 pmI’ve actually seen a couple of Korean models I liked, but those were on a fashion runway.
Hey Kitty Lion you should cook that red meat cuz u never know what ran down that hind leg. =)
Just suggestin’
I don’t understand this Korean model thing. Kim Jong has alot of American troops on his border and he still created a weapon of mass demolition. That is – is a large troop presence really an effective strategy, or did it only make Kim Jong Il that much more determined to buck authority?

Ooo Laaa Laaa! Kim Jong in drag strutting his stuff between the runway lights as the trolls swoon in ecstasty, rushing the stage, hoping that they will be lucky to touch their hero and to catch the frilly panties he kicks into their lusty midst.
June 17th, 2007 at 5:22 pmwhy, after a resoundingly democratic election and supposed “mandate” to end the war, does it sound like the republicans are still in control?

They certainly do.

June 17th, 2007 at 5:55 pmUnfortunately , the democratic election wasn’t RESOUNDING enough.
June 17th, 2007 at 6:04 pmWith Bush as president, the Dems would need enough votes to OVERIDE his veto, and they don’t have it .
The Republicans ignore the Mandate at their own peril . Sounds like a major troop reduction coming anyhow next year. We’ll see.

CloudCuckooLand? Would that be anything like cloud of fire and brimstone or Armageddon that so many on the fundie bench actually strive toward?

Oh right, you care about the economy. =)

June 17th, 2007 at 7:23 pmTobey. Is that just the number of Americans killed over there, or does the number include your country’s losses, too? And how many of your fellow countrymen have YOU lost due to the war?
June 17th, 2007 at 7:26 pmThe movie V for Vendetta makes the point that there will be war for the sake of war profits. It’s that simple. Our children, livelihoods, safety, employment, and economy will be sold off for profit by the big corporations.
Pharmaceutical corporations will invect populations with diseases that they have concocted cures for, and then they reap the profits.
Presidents manufacture enemies for the war merchants to build armaments to destroy, paid for by our tax dollars. Whole peoples are slaughtered, nothing changes politically, but the President and the armaments merchants reap in billions.
At one point do the people wake up to what is happening? And when they do wake up, can they stop it?
Do you want to produce children for the war machine?
June 17th, 2007 at 7:49 pmBush is planning another surge, 18month tours are on the books,
June 17th, 2007 at 8:25 pmLook behind the scenes and you’ll see how the crime team is packing up and stealing as much as possible to put in the off shore accounts. The White House never gave a thought about our troops, they were used for Halliburton to get control of Iraq oil rights. Notice how the troops don’t have equipment, medical care or pay for their families. Yes yes Bush gives gifts to the dead soldiers families. To the widow a coin must like the ones you get 100 for $1.00 at flee markets and for the kids they get coloring books. Americans can be proud of how our troops are cared for. As for the Trillions of dollars spent on the invasions well that goes to Iraq leaders, paid contractors, GOP officials and other pay offs. I fun now when I read the news about the poor treatment to our troops as Americans really could care less. Their more interested in who will win on American Idol. Karl Rove knew that and has been using the tricks and lies from day one.
June 17th, 2007 at 9:06 pmWhat is so magical about September? Gen Betrayus has already said there won’t be anything new or significant in the September report.
June 17th, 2007 at 9:08 pmi’m not quite as cynical as some. i think the heart land and the former base of the republican party are just as outraged by the neocon control over their former party and the msm acquisense to it all.
i think those in the republican party other than the necons are fearing total desimation with the current course of Iraq and Iran. the necons are acting like this is their last shot, and don’t really care about the consequences to the repbulicans.
June 17th, 2007 at 9:42 pmI think September is “magical” because it precisely coincides with a new “fiscal year”, and the end of summer vacations, which, Americans, trusting they are going to be safe, and not have to worry about being responsible or making any decisions, will continue to take.
June 17th, 2007 at 9:51 pm(America’s economy depends on it.)
Also, consumers will begin to think about winter heating bills, and will lean towards supporting aggressive measures elsewhere in the world to make sure we have enough heating fuel.
And, of course, it’s never to soon to start thinking about Christmas, as American enslavement to its consumer driven capitalist sex-crazed obsession with ME ME ME rolls on.

June 17th, 2007 at 10:04 pmDo not forget that the huge new American Embassy in Baghdad opens in September. Bush and his corporate stooges in the press will claim that represents success, so the troops will remain in Iraq for the rest of his term. If Hillary Clinton becomes president, then she will say the US cannot abandon the giant expensive Embassy, so the troops will remain for her 4 to 8 years in office. Her hubby Bill will tell her what to do, after he consults with Bush Senior daily. WE are being conned and swindled by both political parties now.

…
There has to be a troop cut fairly soon if only because the United States cannot maintain that troop level indefinitely. The military is about to break and bringing our boys home may be the only way to save it.
June 18th, 2007 at 12:12 amkeep dreaming
June 18th, 2007 at 3:03 amIt would be hard to believe a word from this man’s mouth.
June 18th, 2007 at 8:42 amOf course there’ll be troop reductions in September. I predicted that months ago.
What Mitch isn’t telling us is that an optimistic report from Petraeus goes without saying: he’s a general, and he’s never met a job he couldn’t get done even if it’s hopeless.
So in response to that that optimistic report, there’ll be a token draw down of a few thousand — a bone tossed to a weary public tired of this disaster — in order to prolong the actual occupation and tamp down some of the dissent. After all, victory will then be in sight. Uhh, yeah — right.
And of course, for those among the right wing talk show listening set, it’ll bring them all back into the fold. And as disseminated by the inquiry-free corporate media, a substantial portion of thinking people will also be fooled just long enough for this chimpanzee to run out the clock.
At that point, it’s Hillary’s problem, and she’s gonna have to pull some really creative sh!t outta her ass to run out her clock. But she won’t be leaving Iraq in any way but verbally. No one within reach of the Presidency from either party would dare leave a military vacuum on all that oil.
Trust me on this — we’re in Iraq to stay, no matter what any politician says. But that’s like water under the bridge to me: I’m more concerned with is the potential for Chuckle Nuts to start bombing Iran about this time next year.
