Based on the direct influence of Soviet Union on Mosaddeq’s democratic government in the mid 1950s, I don’t see how letting the Soviets make Iran another Warsaw pact country be a very good thing, which was very possible at the time considering the during the 1950s was the main decade where the Soviets added Warsaw Pact countries under their control. Mosaddeq’s nationalization of the oil industry in Iran was just the first step leading to a communist Iran. It’s no suprise that even today Iran still has close relations to Russia. We all know how that Soviets tried again to expand their empire by invading Afghanistan so it stands to reason that they would have undoubtably tried to do the same thing with Iran in the 1950s at the height of their territorial conquests.

Question: Would it have been better to leave Mosaddeq in power and allow the Soviets to have major influence over his government?

I wouldnâ€™t be surprised if three civil wars did break out in the middle east. The Iraq war has contribute minimal to nothing in the middle east except adding more conflicts and violence. The wars has done nothing to promote peace and has increase the number of poverty and hunger within the country of Iraq. As to date, according to the Borgen Project, the Iraq war has cost the American people $340 billion dollars. However, it only takes $19 billion dollars annually to eliminate poverty, hunger, and malnutrition globally. Isn’t it time for the people and the government of United States to reevaluate the goals and purposes of our foreign policies?

Probably a mistake in hindsight, but considering the Soviet political influence on Mosaddeq at the time it was probably a good thing.

No, but Carter was partly responsible for Khomeini comming to power which in turn is the reason for the way the Iranian government is made up today. BTW I agree that Iran was well on it’s way to democracy prior to the 1953 coup. Probably a mistake in hindsight, but considering the Soviet political influence on Mosaddeq at the time it was probably a good thing.

As we commit war-crimes in Baghdad, the US gov’t commits treason at home by opening mail, eliminating habeas corpus, using the judiciary to steal private lands, banning books like “America Deceived” from Amazon and Wikipedia, conducting warrantless wiretaps and engaging in illegal wars on behalf of AIPAC’s ‘money-men’. Soon, another US false-flag operation will occur (sinking of an Aircraft Carrier by Mossad) and the US will invade Iran.. Then we’ll invade Syria, then Saudi Arabia, then Lebanon (again) then ….
