“Pregnant Iraqi women

By Nico Pitney on Jun 19th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

“Pregnant Iraqi women

who have been forced from their homes by worsening violence are obtaining illegal abortions because they are unable to get medical care for themselves and their unborn, according to a new report by a national humanitarian group. … Rape, theft and drug addiction have also become ‘commonplace’ among the displaced.”

All this must be happening before they greet us as liberators and throw flowers at our feet, right?

  3. Marie says:

And what do the family values crowd say about this? Or are pregnant Iraqi women different from American women?
Is this simply just collateral damage?
I am a pro-choice person, I always have been, but the self-righteous and sanctimonious reichwingers who would deny women’s freedoms, and preach with authority and condemnation are full of hypocrisy.
That we have destroyed a country, and along with it their social, medical, economic, educational, political fabric, is all right with many of the self-righteous because they have no compassion for others who look, talk, and dress diffferently – and besides that, our oil is under their sand.

  4. guns'n'bibles says:

Bush is bringing ‘em the “American Way of Life”. Lots of American women find themselves in the same situation. God Bless America. Praise Jesus.

Oh please, don’t start crying how abortion is bad after defending it ‘on-demand’ for so long. Maybe these women aren’t lacking medical care….maybe they’re just liberated women…..their body..their choice. Go Feminism! LOL

More evidence of the Pro-Islamic bias in the media.
    Honestly who cares?
What about the 2 Million Christiands that were killed in the Sudan between 1982 and 2002?
The Muslims killed Christian Children and raped Christian woman!
    Why the silence on that.
Don’t fgall for the Muslim controlled media!

Looks like the U.S. is successful in exporting another wonderful set of their Family Values to an unwilling partner.
    Thank you, George and company.

  18. Jackie says:

The Church and Religious Right are very supportive of this action. Remember the these groups thought it was ok to kill babies of slaves if they didn’t look strong enough to work the fields. So under the Christian Bush policy at lease no more Iraq babies is a good thing. Fred Thompson must likely will look to over seeing that situation as he is in favor of getting rid of Woman’s Rights in the US. Like Mitt said who cares if the Mother dies or both Mother and child. Rape is ok too as far as the GOP is concerned. Now what is strange is the Religious GOP and Republicans think Fingers Foley molesting kids as he used the government website is another thing.
I wonder how many more kids Fingers Foley has molested since he left his spay vacation other wise called treatment center.

No, you weren’t. You just stopped by to leave a pile of shit on top of these women’s miserable situation. You’re worse than a f*cking vulture picking the meat off the bones of the dead.

The kind performed without the help of a doctor. That’s an illegal abortion, and that’s what Iraqi women are resorting to because they can’t get adequate health care to bring their child safely to term.

Good for them, exercising their right to an abortion. Quite silly really to require a doctor when it can be done by cheaper means. Pro-choice, right?

Do you even have an ideology any more, or do you just pick talking points out of a hat and string them together?

As one of the biggest advocates of civility here, I must say go pound sand. Having worked with young people for my entire adult life, you clearly are clueless. No one want wants more abortions. We simply have seen the circumstances which make some abortion needed. Why not work toward a social service system which addresses the root causes of these problems rather than attacking the unpleasant but sometimes needed solution. I will let my own mother be the guide. She is in her seventies and saw what women of her era were subjected to. Although unpleasant, abortion is a private matter between a women and her medical provider. Otherwise let’s just line up the private flights for the rich to terminate the ackward dinner conversations while the have nots get preached to about morality

spare us your faux intellectual curiosity, its quite obvious you dont think through the ramifications of either your beleifs or your words. those who oppose abortions are esentially saying that what the world needs is more unwanted children. ethically, there is no discernable difference between an early stage abortion and removing a tumour.

and the rest of you idiots yammering about “dont you like abortions”….when a woman is forced by circumstances to have an abortion, we think thats bad..see…we think women should have CHOICES about what she continues to have attached to her body.

Bull f***ing sh*t! Many lefties have investments and jobs in Planned Parenthood and company, even if you don’t.

Gotta love the lefties trying to have their cake and eat it too….fighting like zealots to maintain the right to *choose* and whining that it’s unpleasant at the same time!

I have no problems with legalized abortion. It probably results in less liberal voters.

There’s certainly nothing intelligent about crusading for a right to an abortion then whining when a bunch of Arabs use it.

My guess is the unhappy lefties aren’t fortunate enough to be abortion profiteers.

I know several people in Minnesota, where some judge in PP’s pocket established an abortion of demand rule forcing the state to provide funding. The cash is flowing. That’s probably the biggest reason they opposed the PBA act: PBA’s are expensive!

Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization. How does one invest in a nonprofit, exactly?

And don’t try the “people have jobs there” line cause nonprofit jobs pay shit and you know it.

  34. dbadass says:

You still owe the mommer an apology and when did you hear me whine about Arab abortion? I asked you to defend yourself by explaining if or if not your response was intelligent and not solely the impulse drven reaction of an ideologue. I’ll take me answer off air…

I’m surprised to see this presented as if Think Progress disapproves of abortions in Iraq. Aren’t abortions one of the sacred rituals of the progressive feminist PETA voluntary-human-extinction movement?

Planned Parenthood might be lucky enough to have so called “nonprofit” status, but they’re making higher profits with less abortion clinics.

    http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewNation.asp?Page=%5CNation%5Carchive%5C200312%5CNAT20031212a.html

The doctors make a mint; abortions can cost thousands of dollars. All off the backs of taxpayers.

I think the deer hunters have the sacred ritual of death covered but that aside what is the logic in which you join these disconnected thoughts? Feminism, animal rights, implied male insecurity, reproductive realities, unjust agression overseas. Wow you are like the physicist who seeks the unifying theory.
    It is all in strings!!!

  38. Coffins draped with flags says:

These Republics don’t believe in abortion unless it’s done by bombing the shit out of a country.

  39. Send flowers says:

Shootings, bombings, abductions, murders, military operations and other forms of violence are forcing thousands of people to flee their homes and seek safety elsewhere in Iraq or in neighbouring countries,” the group said, noting that food is scarce in some regions, and power shortages are worsening.
