Giuliani’s weak response to why he blew off the ISG.

Yesterday, Newsday giulianir2.jpg reported that Rudy Giuliani had to resign from the Iraq Study Group because he was too busy attending fundraising events. His campaign responds, “The facts are these — as someone considered a potential presidential candidate, the Mayor didn’t want the group’s work to become a political football. That, coupled with time constraints, led to his decision.” TPM’s Greg Sargent debunks Giuliani’s weak excuse.

As if the ISG’s work wasn’t a “political football” from the very start.

    Lying sack of sh!t.

  2. cynicalgirl says:

Fundraising? I thought he was lining his pockets, not raising campaign funds.

  3. hellinabucket says:

Any way you look at this it’s a win for America. Rudy didn’t have a say in the ISG and his excuses ensure he won’t be president.

  4. The Joker says:

    I hope Rudy wins.
He will end Islamic domination of America.
That’s why the Saudi and Iranian agents are attacking him.
The Muslims masters fear this man!
    Vote for Rudy!

  5. The Joker says:

    hellinabucket,
No one cares about the Iraq Study Group.
It was funded by Saudi and Iranian interests.
    That’s why he left.
He knew it was a sham.
We should leave Iraq and let the Muslims kill each other!

  6. NoOneYouKnow says:

Rudy’s so evil he can’t even pretend well that he’s a good person.

Lazy Republicans — these guys have never done an honest day’s work in their lives.

  8. Jo-Ann says:

This story hasn’t reached the networks, and probably won’t. But it signals the end of his chances to win under any circumstances. He’s just too greedy to lead.

The Joker, if nobody cares then why is this in the news for a 2nd day? Could you provide me with the invoices from the Saudi and Iranian interests.

    Interests. Could you define interests?

So you think we should leave Iraq now, but where you of the same mindset when we embarked on this crusade?

Even Jonah Goldberg has noted Greg’s takedown. When a GOP candidate is slammed in front of The Corner (National Review), it is pretty bad for that candidate. Even though Jonah probably does not like me – I did give him a hat tip over at Angrybear.

  19. Egan Foote says:

I heard he was too busy plunger shopping.

    Egan, out.

Rudi always reminds me of the ghoul in Nosferatu.

  21. frylock says:

Rudy will never go over too well in the deep south anyway. Especially when they get to know him. He’s just so…friendly and warm??????!!!!!

    What a control freakish creep.

  22. lestatdelc says:

And as some commentators over at TPM also noted, Rudy was given the ultimatum by the ISG to begin showing up to the meetings or be kicked off the ISG. In other words, the idea of leaving voluntarily didn’t initiate with him. He was going to be canned from it and simply resigned first. His lame spin would be like Wolfowitz claiming that he was leaving the World Bank because he wasn’t able to commit the time for the gig.

    It’s laughable.
