“The New York Times is currently undertaking a major news investigation, led by managing editor Jill Abramson, into News Corp.’s business dealings throughout the world, according to a source with knowledge of the project.” Abramson told the New York Observer she is leading “an investigative project for the next month” and that it “involves a group of domestic and foreign reporters, but I obviously can’t tell you what it is.”
Well now that he knows about it…….
June 20th, 2007 at 1:33 pmLookout, Fox “News,” you’re ’bout to get your wish: YOU’RE ‘BOUT TO BE NEWS!
June 20th, 2007 at 1:36 pmAwww, Jealous much NYT?
June 20th, 2007 at 1:40 pmGreat, in a publication no one reads.
June 20th, 2007 at 1:41 pmthis is how much we Liberals support our troops. Notice how these wackos booed the loudest when they were told that our Military did their job in Iraq and that it was the iraqi government that failed.
sad, sad, truly, sad….
Hillary Clinton Booed Again [Byron York]
Sen. Hillary Clinton was booed again this morning at the Take Back America conference, sponsored by the lefty activist group Campaign for America’s Future here in Washington. At this same conference last year, Sen. Clinton was booed for her position on the war in Iraq. This morning, she was enthusiastically received as she bashed the Bush administration — “a stunning record of secrecy and corruption” — but the crowd became less friendly when, at the end of her speech, she turned to Iraq.
“We’re going to end the war in Iraq and finally bring home the troops,” she said as a number of Code Pink protesters stood up in the audience. When she declared, “The American military has done its job,” boos began to be heard around the room. As the boos increased, Sen. Clinton raised her voice. “The American military has succeeded,” she said, to more boos. “It is the Iraqi government that has failed to make the tough decisions.” Still more boos.
At that point, there was a round of cheers. “I love coming here every year,” Clinton said. “I see the signs, ‘Get Us Out of Iraq Now.’ That’s what we’re trying to do.”
June 20th, 2007 at 1:41 pmhas the dow jones / bankroft deal gone through?
haven’t heard, so must not have…
it had better never…
June 20th, 2007 at 1:48 pm.
Bring it on!
It’s funny that you guys don’t like Rupert Murdoch, but you like Hillary Clinton who has very intimate ties with him.
June 20th, 2007 at 1:57 pmMurdoch the old lion king may be showing his age and the rivals are circling. Robert Maxwell’s reign ended with splash of scandal and Conrad Black’s has gone to the jury. Poor Rupert may have stuck his thumb into one too many puddings.
June 20th, 2007 at 1:58 pmGood. It’s about time Americans have learned which foreignors control the powerful right wing media and how they have been played for useful idiots by them.
June 20th, 2007 at 2:02 pmOnce Americans learn that foreignors are propagandizing them with their right wing/anti-American ideals message, then they will no longer have an impact here.
America needs to know all about Murdoch and Moon.
The more Americans know about these foreignors and the vast amount of influence they have on our country, the better for America.
In fact, after this expose, the Democrats should pass legislation making it illegal for foreignors to own and operate American news media institutions. This way foreignors will not be able to influence our country.
Why does the moderator just remove all 28%er posts? why should the irrelevant freaks have their say on the people’s site? think Progress is for Americans not cons. Remove the cons posts, silence them, mock them, expose them, just don’t let them have a forum here, they control the MSM already.
mock the right
expose the right

Can’t you say the same for Arianna Huffington and George Soros? And why do you want to take away a persons right to property? Do you have a problem with free enterprise?
June 20th, 2007 at 2:14 pm#10
That free speech thing bugging you? At least Fox News welcomes debate.
June 20th, 2007 at 2:16 pmI hope their report is as fair and balanced as Fox News.
June 20th, 2007 at 2:16 pm12. Fox News is a laughingstock.
As for #10, we’re not shutting them out. Not gonna happen. Let me yak on and on, who cares? Their arguments are weaker than my grandmother. They come on here, spout off some childish nonsense, avoid the real questions and are mercilessly mocked for it. I have yet to see any troll come in here and get the best of anyone so bring it on I say.
June 20th, 2007 at 2:24 pmKeep you fingers crossed.
I don’t know if this just a human interest story or if they have some dirt on Rupert, but I sure hope it’s the latter.
There are a lot of complex stirrings in Murdoch’s world right now. I’m compiling them at News Corpse. Search for “Murdoch”
June 20th, 2007 at 2:28 pmRead somewhere that Murdoch doesn’t have a will which means that his children are going to have to fight to inherit his empire and his wealth. Now that will be worth watching. And it shouldn’t be too long because he is quite an old fart.
June 20th, 2007 at 3:25 pmoh great another liberal hit job comming
June 20th, 2007 at 3:37 pmThat free speech thing bugging you? At least Fox News welcomes debate.
Comment by Kevin
Hey, I’m eating lunch here! I almost choked to death on that one.
Can’t be sure if I was laughing or gagging.
June 20th, 2007 at 3:44 pmFox welcomes debate??? That is such bizarre concept. Fox suppresses debate. It’s unfair and unbalanced.
BTW, I’m amused that this thread has 18 posts and the one on conservative talk radio above it has over 200. It just proves Americans know squat about the Media.
America doesn’t have a Free Press it has corporate America’s propaganda wing. Advertising pays for TV, radio and newspapers and so it’s what Coke, Ford, GE, Microsoft and Disney want you to know that will get seen or heard. Forget about what the consumer wants– the advertisers are the consumers and what they want are people of a certain gender & age.
Canada is following the Conrad Black trial because he’s a famous Canadian, but most Americans don’t know who he is or that he famously influenced public opinion for the past 20 years. And they probably are totally confused about who that aged Aussie Murdoch is and why he seems to have Bush, Blair and Howard in his pocket. (That would be Aussie PM John Howard.)
News does not just happen. Although the First Amendment protects a Free Press, it doesn’t guarantee one. And that’s what NPR and PBS should be, but haven’t been. Few people understand that PBS and NPR are esoteric and elitist because that’s what their commerical counterparts have lobbied Congress to get. And yet how do the Voices of Americans who aren’t purveyors of automobiles, clothing, and electronics get heard? The Internet??? Well, the big companies are trying to kill net neutrality as we speak.
I’m sorry. America is not a democracy. It’s a republic that is far from representative of its people. And the reason is that a handful of people control the bulk of the media. And I have only contempt for people who pretend that ThinkProgress is proof of a Free Press –that’s like comparing a high school newspaper to the Washington Post. Blogs may be important, but they are no substitute for a well financed mainstream media outlet. And that means that NPR and PBS need to be revamped and expanded so that they can set the bar for other media. And ownership rules need to bring back diversity. News should be our morning coffee, but there’s something wrong if you can only get it from the media equivalent of Starbucks.
June 20th, 2007 at 4:48 pm#11. Please enlighten everyone here as to all the newspapers and “News” corporations Soros and Huffington own.
June 20th, 2007 at 5:01 pmThen tell us how you’d react if Soros were to create or purchase a news television channel.
You’d cry like a stuck pig, right?
But somehow foreignors Murdoch and Messianic cult leader Sun Myung Moon should be able to control the news message in our country, as far as you are concerned.
All Fox “News” and the Washington “Moonie” Times does is paint a target on whichever Democrat they’re attacking today’s back, and tell their ignorant viewers and readers who to hate and harrass today.
That’s un-American in my book, and I take offense that foreignors are allowed to do this in my country.
As for Soros, he had more to do with the downfall of Communism than Saint Ronnie Reagan did. That’s a fact, but you wouldn’t know it because you listen to the rabid right wing media.
Google: Who owns the Media,period……
June 20th, 2007 at 5:08 pmFollow the money. Maybe this will finally shut FOX down.
June 20th, 2007 at 6:07 pmI love the right wing posts. Especially the one from national review columnist Byron York. The boos started when Hilary Clinton blamed the Iraqi government for the failed invasion. I wonder when we will be recieving a retraction? hmm never I’m sure. The positive thing is that more Americans are refusing to watch tv media, and I think that is a leading sign that some people are finally waking up. The best thing to stick to the msm is simply boycott their sponsors. They need to be sent a firm message. Oh and to the dushbag who talks about free enterprise, ya ok butthole, how come Liberal talk shows are pretty much banned from the msm. A majority of americans do welcome diversity in opionion, but someone must have forgot to tell you in your cave in siberia. Free enterprise requires a level playing field. Can you say corporate fascim loser?
June 21st, 2007 at 1:06 aminteresting comments to this announcement. the mention of news corp seems to bring out vitriole amongst some readers.
personally, i hope the nyt does a good job of showing us how they work, don’t work, where they are, how they’ve evolved, and more. it could be a powerfully interesting story of a business/social/information revoultion.
ideology aside, it is a brilliantly succesful business model. they have expanded hugely the concept of information as entertainment, using emotional rather than intellectual appeal.
it will be each of our choice to read the articles, when they come out, from an emotional or intellectual point of interest.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:54 pmI’m sure the most successful model is the Page 3 Girl.
