Right now, SnowJob and GDumbya are strategerizing about how to spin this . . . “the increase in violence is a sign that we are turning the corner and the insurgents are in their last throes”.

What an absolute and tragic fiasco.

  13. ESaund says:

Right now US forces are relatively safe in a handful of enclaves, and most casualties come from the “cat and mouse” strategy when soldiers leave the enclaves.

But this “safety” is due to the lack of sophistication of the weaponry. It is only a matter of time before the various Iraqi groups get more deadly, offensive weaponry, not WMD but convention things like rocket launchers, mortars, bombers, etc.

US forces (on aircraft carriers and on the ground in Iraq) will be sitting ducks. The scatter-shot deaths and injuries will really start piling up when whole units are taken out.

For all of the rhetoric about the horrors that will result if the US leaves, think of the horrors that will result to our troops when Iraqis inevitably get better, offensive weapons.

The BBC is reporting “at least” 14 US soldiers have been killed in the last 48 hours. I am afraid the number will increase as the day progresses. The Dems must stop funding this fiasco!!!

Though I live in a blue state, I live in a very conservative area of that state. Early Tuesday evening, I became engaged in a heated debate with my neighbor. Even though she was magnanimously able to concede my right to an antiwar point of view, her main theme of this discussion, such as it was, was that I must support the troops by supporting their mission. I said their “mission” has ended up costing the lives of anywhere from 650,000 to 1,000,000 innocent Iraqi people. I attempted to tell her that the best way to support the troops was to extricate them out of that slaughterhouse, thereby preventing unnecessary deaths and having more of them returning to this country maimed and crippled, as quickly and as rapidly as possible.

She also believed that George W. Bush has told the truth about everything and that the United States must do its best to remain number one, though I had no idea what that was supposed to mean. It was difficult to counteract her arguments since I had difficulty getting a word in edgewise when she was presenting her tirade. What stayed in my mind was the look of intense hatred on her face as I tried to point out the fallacies regarding her statements. It was perplexing trying to determine what set her off, considering that we have lived next to each other for four years and that she was aware of my beliefs early on. The only thing that I can think of was that she may have resented the fact that I was wearing a Vietnam Veterans Against the War button on my shirt. When I now think of my neighbor I think of the line in the classic film Twelve Angry Men, when Henry Fonda tried to console the eldest juror, who was attempting to communicate with another juror [Jack Warden], after that juror, #7, walked away from him, by telling that eldest juror “He can’t hear you. He never will.”

If we can’t count on Congress to right these wrongs, we must take matters into our own hands.

  26. lonesomerobot says:

    and redneck,

the job the military was supposed to do is already done. saddam is deposed, there are no wmd’s.

bringing democracy to iraq was an after-the-fact excuse for the invasion by bush when the wmd ruse didn’t pan out.

we’re now the occupation. yes, there was a plan for occupation drawn up by the state dept. before the war – bush just threw it in the garbage without giving it a look.

because the real plan, as we now know, is 50 years of occupying iraq and controlling its oil resources. funny how they didn’t mention that before we went in.

so don’t blame the military for not getting the job done. they’ve done their part, and now it’s time to bring them home.

As Tony Snow reported the White House calls dead soldiers just numbers not humans. Americans really aren’t interested in how many of our soldiers die their more interested in when Paris Hilton will get out of jail. We have lost over 3500 soldiers even when the numbers reach 4500 Americans will look away. Bush/Cheney know Americans will follow the lies and as long as GOP and Bush loyal Republicans are not asked to join the Military or defend the United States then things are find. Bush/Cheney never served in the US Military when they were called so all this means nothing. As for the General who follow the orders of the liar in Chief well look for them to be alcoholics as they see the faces of the soldiers they let die.

Dozens of Insurgents Killed in Iraq Offensive …(insurgent groups working closely with U.S.)
    WaPo ^ | Thursday, June 21, 2007 | John Ward Anderson

BAGHDAD, June 20 — U.S. and Iraqi forces continued targeting Sunni insurgents in the city of Baqubah north of Baghdad on Wednesday, the second day of a major new offensive aimed at stamping out the Sunni extremist group al-Qaeda in Iraq.

About 10,000 U.S. and Iraqi troops are participating in the new offensive, called Arrowhead Ripper, which began early Tuesday in Diyala province, a mixed Sunni-Shiite-Kurdish province north and east of Baghdad that, in recent months, has become a stronghold of al-Qaeda in Iraq and the most violent area in the country outside of the capital. Forty-one insurgents and one American soldier were killed in two days of fighting, the U.S. military said Wednesday.

“We have found three warehouses and factories where car bombs cars were built, as well as large stashes of TNT and mortar rounds used to make” roadside bombs, said Mohammed al-Askari, an Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman. “We also found the swords that they used to slaughter people in their so-called courts, in addition to sniper rifles and silencers.”

The U.S. military said in a statement that five weapons caches had been found and that 25 roadside bombs and five booby-trapped houses had been discovered and destroyed.

A U.S. military spokesman, Lt. Col. Christopher C. Garver, said the military was investigating the mistaken bombing of a house in the Khatoon neighborhood of Baqubah on Wednesday. The incident occurred when soldiers decided to destroy a heavily booby-trapped residence with an aircraft bomb, but the bomb hit the wrong house, Garver said. ………… Askari said that the offensive “has developed greatly” and that U.S.-led forces were starting a “second phase by surrounding and isolating the areas in which the terrorists are located.”

Al Qaeda Camp struck in North Waziristan, Pakistan (Suicide Bomber Training Camp )
    The Fourth Rail ^ | une 19, 2007 3:23 PM | Bill Roggio

32 reported killed in strike launched from Afghanistan; follows news of Taliban, al Qaeda suicide squads graduation

A joint al-Qaeda and Taliban training camp was struck in a missile attack in Pakistan’s lawless Northwest Frontier Province. A strike, believed to have been launched by U.S. forces from Afghanistan, hit a train camp in the town of Mami Rogha in the Datta Khel district of North Waziristan. Upwards of 32 Taliban and possibly foreign al Qaeda were killed in the strike on the camp, which is situated about 26 miles west of Miramshah.

“A U.S. pilotless drone aircraft carried out the attack at around 10:30 a.m. (0530 GMT),” Reuters reported, based on an anonymous Pakistani intelligence source and local residents. “There was a cluster of three houses and a tent which were hit. There were about 45 people in that area… Intelligence officials said some foreigners were among those killed in Mami Rogha, raising the possibility that al Qaeda fighters might have also been present.”

An anonymous intelligence source familiar with al Qaeda’s training camps in the region told The Fourth Rail that the Mami Rogha camp known to the intelligence community. “There is a camp there, also barracks and supply posts,” said the source. There are “dozens” of camps in the Northwest Frontier province, but the source refused to give specific numbers. There are also several camps “run by lesser groups,” such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, “in Azad Kashmir and other parts of Pakistan.”

Only a complete f*cking retard would look at a liberal’s concern for getting our troops out of a no-win situation, where they’re only getting killed because Bush won’t admit he screwed up, and interpret that as being allied with al Qaeda.

And by the way, it was your boy Bush who decided to let Osama live, allowed the Taliban to come back to power in Afghanistan, and helped al Qaeda thrive in Pakistan and elsewhere, just so he could launch an unnecessary invasion of Iraq. If al Qaeda has any allies in this country, they’re in the White House. Bush is the best thing that’s ever happened for terrorist recruitment efforts.

  66. Erroll says:

I basically echoed your comment at post #20. I tried to explain to my neighbor that supporting the troops does not mean that one has to also support the mission of the U.S. government but as my comments stated, my explanation fell upon deaf ears. To superpatriots such as my neighbor and others, Bush can do no wrong and its status as #1 [at least in their eyes] must be maintained. These superpatriots who love to wave the flag will seemingly never recognize that it is the inflammatory presence of the United States military that is the cause of all the violence that is occurring in Iraq. As you say, bring them home-now.

The Bush administration succeeded in promoting the misguided and destructive war in Iraq with messages targeting our core concerns about vulnerability, injustice, distrust, superiority, and helplessness. Looking ahead, they will likely try to sell us a continuing occupation of Iraq—or an attack on Iran—in much the same way. I examine these warmongering appeals and how to counter them in a new 10-minute video entitled “Resisting the Drums of War.” It’s available for viewing on YouTube HERE.

As a soldier in Iraq (my 2nd tour), I’d like to inform you that most of us are NOT for the occupation, however, we are in a bit of a bind being legally obliged to follow orders. Being bound by any law or order of things is something that I imagine you are not familiar with.
If you fancy the thought of dead US soldiers, why not put your money where your mouth is, pick up an AK and fight us? Oh, I know why –
    1) Deep down, you know you’re an idiot and you like to push people’s buttons.
    2) You are a coward.
    3) You fancy yourself a revolutionary, when in fact you are probably some idiot college student who wishes he could have lived through the Vietnam era.
By the way you ass, we aren’t ordered to MURDER. But I guess you know all about it, right? You’ve been to Iraq, right? You’ve seen with your own eyes, heard with your own ears, and felt with your own hands the casualties of war, right? No? Worry not, for those who are just like you – you are still a hero. But to me, to someone who has been there, done that – you are nothing more than an ignorant pundit. Keep to your circle of idiots where your uneducated opinions are appreciated and applauded.
It’s no wonder why we have neo-cons running around in control when there are maniacs like you to provide the counter balance. You are just as bad…
