Bzzzzzzt!!!! Sorry, troll, try again. The approval rating of Congress as a whole is about equal to Bush’s. The approval rating of the Democratic leadership/Democrats in Congress is about ten points higher.

And, of course, after the Democrats passed the timelines bill, their approval rating was near 60%.

Republicans in Congress are less popular than Bush – they’re down in Cheney territory. Their determination to torpedoe the Democrats’ efforts to end the war are dragging down the approval ratings of Congress as a whole.

This latest approval rating means that Chimpy just tied Harry Truman’s record for largest swing in approval ratings during a presidency.

    ———

    Chimpy:

    Highest: 90% Lowest: 26%

What the poor poll numbers for Congress show is two things:

    1) People want Congress to get more done, pass more legislation and hold the administration accountable but they don’t have the votes to overcome Republican stonewalling and obstructionism.

    and

    2) Democrats are much more willing to criticize their own than are Republicans. The ratings for Congress are about the same across the board among Republicans, Democrats and Independents, but when it comes to Bush, two-thirds of Republicans still approve of his performance.

What a bunch of losers here!

Yeah, Congress at 25%. Huh. Here are some things to consider:

    1. Congress has hit lower than 25% and often did throughout last year before the Dems took over. In fact, it hit 16% in October last year, just before voters shitcanned the GOP majority.

    2. You have to go back 33 years to find a president’s approval rating lower than Bush’s.

    3. If you’re going to keep on dragging Congress into it every time someone points out how much Bush sucks, it would mean a lot more if you’d break it down by party. Which half of Congress is dragging the entire legislative branch down? You might consider that people are pissed at Congress because the legislation that people want to get passed (Iraq withdrawal timelines, for example) is getting blocked by Republicans. But, just so you have something to work with, you can compare the parties here http://pollingreport.com/cong_dem.htm and here http://pollingreport.com/cong_rep.htm

This President simply refuses to do the things the people of America want done. HE’s done nothing on health care, the war is still going, he vetoed the stem cell research bill, he’s thrown away his ‘fiscal conservatism’ in favor of a borrow and spend policy, his tax cuts are nothing more than tax defferments that will have to be paid back later, presription drugs are still through the roof, he’s done nothing on Global warming.

All these issues are issues that the American people overwhelmingly want action on, but he, and his party are obstructing evrything the Democrats have tried on these issues. Hell, he can’t even get his party ot line up on immigration.

Nothing will happen in Washington while the GOP continues to stop any legislation that makes sense for the people of this country. We’ve long surpassed the days when these people actually represent us and will likely never get it back while allowing corporate lobbyists to buy and sell them like common stock.

Here is what you need to know to put your mind at ease:

    Democrats-all republicans are warmongering Bible-thumpers

    Republicans-all democrats are soldier-hating dhimmists

Hear that chuckling in the background? Its your elected representatives, laughing at our conflict while they make secret deals in the backroom and prepare to act out the next stage of their supposed partisanship. How many millionaires are now in high office?

  91. JG says:

Hey, if his approval ratings slip down into single digits, does that mean we get to tar and feather him? Place him in stocks in front of the Capitol for public display and ridicule? Take away his veto pen, give him a time-out and make him sit in a corner?

I don’t think he cares what his approval ratings are. Frankly, I don’t think any of them do. Bush in particular would have to have a conscience in order to feel embarrassment or shame because he has sunk so low in the eyes of the nation. He still thinks HE is right and EVERYONE else in the entire country is wrong. What kind of mind works that way?

    Ah yes,our “Representaives”… Right off the plantations…

Howard Zinn explained how the Southern Cotton Farmers pitted their black slaves against their Irish Immigrant Indentured Servants so that they would fight amongst themselves, all the while missing the fact that the rich Plantation owners were exploiting them both.

They are doing it again. Instead of creating a divide of racism, they are creating one of political affliation, while they exploit us all…

  96. $5 and a punch in the mouth says:

I guess you really don’t know how our government works……

I guess you cant understand simple reason.

I was referring to the earlier poster whining that the dems cant get anything done because the repubs are blocking them, as if this has never happened before in our nation’s history. As if this wasnt the plan all along by our founding fathers, their idea of governmental checks and balances.

Stalemate by one party against another is nothing new, it didnt suddenly come about in the 2006 elections. Sorry, I dont have a wikipedia entry to assist you any further in understanding this.

And the rousing is definitely deep into conservative country too… Very few of the conservatives I know aren’t calling him an idiot outright… And when I suggest to them that we elect a true Moderate to run the country, instead of more extremists, they actually agree…

  103. Ben B says:

Well, yeah, Congress probably does have a lower approval rating.

The reason is that there are still conservatives who agree with the Iraq war. They support Bush. Congress, on the other hand, is receiving disapproval from conservatives for trying to end the war and disapproval from progressives for not ending the war. And you’re kidding yourself if you think the Congressional disapproval is about much more than the war (true, the secret immigration and trade deals weren’t good for their ratings, but really, it’s the war).

So, the bottom line is that Bush is receiving his disapproval for his own policies; whereas, the Democratically controlled congress is receiving much of its disapproval for not enacting the policies they supposedly represent.

To boil down even more… People disapprove of Bush and his policies. Whereas, people disapprove of the effectiveness of the Democratic congress in passing their policies.

The underlying difference is evident in the way Bush and Congress have to go about improving these numbers. Bush must change his core views. Democrats have to be truer to theirs.

Republicans have often criticized the Democrats for being spineless. Sadly, you’re right. Democrats need to grow a spine if they’re as serious about things as the people who elected them. Otherwise, we’ll have to throw them out for people who are more effective.

Anyway, the comparison would be evident if the poll asked who do you more approve of: Bush or Congress. I’m betting Congress will receive ~ 2/3 of the votes in that poll…

  104. $5 and a punch in the mouth says:

If you need any further proof that both sides are hacks, focus on the immigration scam..er..bill making the rounds. They got together, threw this disaster into a pot, stirred it around and pulled out some horrifying thing that is supposed to answer all the questions and fill all the needs.

That isnt how the process is designed to work, yet both sides have decided the process shouldnt concern the unwashed masses out here and will just bend the rules to suit themselves.

Joker is dead-on, there is a hatred building for the self-appointed royalty who currently inhabit the beltway. I just hope the entire mess gets broomed next year. Byrd and Lott can go off and tandem skydive or something, couple of ancient losers.

I think Nader might have finally gotten the hint that he can’t get elected… :D

In the most recent interview I saw that Gore gave (Time), he said that he hadn’t ruled it out, but also wasn’t interested… Untilsomeone can figure out how to get him back in love with the notion of being President, because I have little doubt he would win big this time around (no one on the left or rightthat I know is happy with any of the choices thus far).

    14% democrat congress ratings

  114. MsJoanne says:

In response to the $5 a$$hole who said I was whining, I wasn’t., pal, I was stating a fact.

When one side always has to give in to another side, that’s not checks and balances it’s obstruction of accomplishment. Dems are seen as weak because they will compromise. GOPers don’t compromise, it’s their way or the highway.

Yes, compromise is good unless you give the store away OR unless you won’t give anything. Then compromise is stalemate. And that’s where we are.

Don’t delude yourself that I see all politicians as being created equal. There are dem a$$holes and there are GOP a$$holes. The GOP just has a glut on the market of them and they have bigger holes. And few of them have any conscience, just as our president has none. He’s right all the time. He, and they, make me sick to my stomach.

We, on the other hand, are completely left out in the cold. Always.

The Dems and GOP at least used to make those compromises where something got done. Now, what is considered accomplishment? A bill that requires cars have a 35 mpg minimum by the year 2020? Give me a f*cking break. Some accomplishment. And to get THAT they had to cave to taking out a 4% increase annually because of the auto lobby. Is that what accomplishment means to you? That’s caving and we, in this case, the entire population, loses. Well, I do suppose that Toyota and Honda will do quite nicely as they already are there. WTG, Congress, you enabled NOTHING but more importing (Toyota already surpassed Ford as the #1 world supplier. They have a better product and actually know what consumers worldwide want.)

What a wonderful accomplishment. But I suppose SOMETHING got passed that will actually get signed.

How f*cking sick is all of this?

  117. Marie says:

Well, You’re-A-Homo, I’m not a “14%er” (if that’s what you were trying to say before basic typing skills got in the way) because I don’t approve of this Congress, either — Democrats or Republicans. They’re not doing jacksh!t about the arrogant stonewalling of BushCo, Darth Cheney and Abu Gonzales, and they backed down on the war funding bill to a president with cripplingly low approval ratings.

But I’d rather have the Democrats in power than the Republicans, that’s for damn sure. They may not be getting much good done, but the last Congress did nothing but damage.

  120. mstessyrue says:

Probably not a lot of people are surprised by the president’s low approval ratings. The main cause of President’s Bush’s ratings is obviously the war in Iraq. I believe the people in this country are fed up with Bush’s senseless war and the lack of domestic policies. There are much more important issues in this world that the US should be taking part in, such as global poverty. According to the Borgen Project, whose goal is to fight global poverty, US is one of the nations pledged in the Millennium Development Project. MDP is aimed at eliminating world poverty in half by the year 2015. However, this country has done anything but reducing poverty. The war on “terror” has created more poverty, more hunger and more violence within Iraq and the United States. It is time for this country’s president to rethink the direction where this great nation is going. Perhaps the second lowest approval rating since Watergate will be a wake up call to President Bush.

  121. MsJoanne says:

mstessyrue, did that project show that world poverty is one of the leading causes of terrorism?

And you can’t fight poverty when you are greedy as hell. Bush, et al, import it with every signing statement that gives and gives to cronies and take and takes from every other person possible.

Dubya’s approval is low because he morphed into a domestic nazi and an international terrorist who spends money with both hands. The Republican Congress aided him in this ridiculousness and was fired for it.

The new Democrat Congress was installed to check Dubya’s rampant abuses, rather than on their own merits. They refuse to do what they were hired to do and stop our loony emperor in chief, so their approval tanked.

The truth is that our “adversarial” system of government is allot cozier than most folks would like to admit.. Except in opinion polls, which is what you see reflected here.

Fact is, they all suck. People are tired of the status quo and even more tired of the only option being to re-install the previous status quo.

We just need more options than R & D to choose from. This “bipartisan” stranglehold will eventually lead to our collapse.
