In sworn testimony to Congress in 2006, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said that there had “not been any serious disagreement” over President Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program. But today, former Attorney General John Ashcroft — who almost resigned in protest over the program — told a House panel that in reality, the administration was “sharply divided over the legality of President Bush’s most controversial eavesdropping policies.”
Last month, former Deputy Attorney General James Comey exposed Alberto Gonzales lying under oath regarding the Bush administration’s internal debate over the legality of its NSA domestic surveillance program. Now, former Attorney General John Ashcroft in closed door testimony today before the House Intelligence Committee confirmed that Gonzales once again lied to Congress.

Now can we impeach Perjuror Gonzo?
June 21st, 2007 at 6:15 pmGeorge Bush, Your AG lies and you stay with him. You will be judged by the company you keep.
June 21st, 2007 at 6:18 pmHow can anyone be expected to have any faith in the integrity of a justice system run by such a corrupt, incompetent criminal.
June 21st, 2007 at 6:24 pmGonzo lied? You must be kidding.
June 21st, 2007 at 6:44 pmWhen will the stupid Democratic Leaders get off there ass and put the criminals in prison like the voters want?
There is on need to trials they are clear contempt of congress and are willing to lie to it in public testimony.
Just send them to jail the second they lie. That will break open the pinyachia that is this corrupt adminstration.
They lie-They go to prison- they don’t get to go home that day and see the kids, wife or lawyer, no bail either. No Judge needed either.
June 21st, 2007 at 6:45 pmYou must understand that in the world after 911 there is good and there is bad, Ashcroft and his were good (if you can believe that) and Dubya, Gonzo, Cheney, KKKarl Rove and the rest of the thugs are bad. End of story.
June 21st, 2007 at 6:46 pmGonzo is a pathological liar who has a serious problem with his memory. And he is the Attorney General of our country. Totally scary.
June 21st, 2007 at 7:25 pmIf there was a sharp division within the administration over the legality of “warrentless” wiretaps, a practice specifically prohibited by the Constitution, why didn’t Ashcroft, as head of the U.S. Justice Department do something about it at the time?
Nearly resigning over the issue??? What does that mean? If the Attorney General of the U.S. sees illegal activity taking place, he is obligated by the oath of office to do something about it.
Are we going to see Democrats begin to applaud Ashcroft for speaking out now? The damage is already done. Historically, by his silence, Ashcroft did much to weaken our republic, our Constitutional protections against corrupt and mismanaged government, and helped to enable those who would destroy our nation.
June 21st, 2007 at 7:33 pm“Are we going to see Democrats begin to applaud Ashcroft for speaking out now? ”
Not me, I refuse to applaud any of these “johnny come lately’s”. I didn’t do it with Tenent and I didn’t do it with Powell. The only people I will applaud who didn’t speak out before are the people who have recently retired from the military and can now speak out. I understand that they would have been in a world of trouble if they spoke out while they were still in the military. I find it amazing that a majority of the people who have retired from the military are speaking out against this administration. What does that tell you.
But with people like Tenent and Powell and even Ashcroft who all were in a position to be able to make a difference and they didn’t do anything, I have no admiration for them. What I have for them is a lot of anger at what they helped to do to hurt this nation.
June 21st, 2007 at 7:51 pmWhen John Ashcroft seems like the sane one as compared to Alberto Gonsalzes, can you imagine what a dispicable figure Gonsalzes is ?
June 21st, 2007 at 7:52 pmWhen are they going to impeach this son of a bitch ? Let’s call Conyers & prod him to folks.
Jesus Christ! When we start looking at Ashcroft as the good old days, that just shows how f*cked up this country is.
That Ashcroft could even be considered good; amazing.
Every one of these lying scumbags should be shot at midnight. And this includes Powell, Tenet and all the others who feel they need to clense themselves (or make money of book or speaking engagements).
What a f*cking joke our country is. If it wasn’t so pathetic it would almost be funny.
June 21st, 2007 at 7:56 pmUnless A$$crafting can step up and tell all the truth about everything he f*CKED UP and why he put CHRISTIANISTAS BEFORE OUR DEMOCRACY…
then he is just another CUA!!!
“Left the Beagel Sore!!!!”

And he’s Bush’s best friend and confidante. Birds of a feather….
June 21st, 2007 at 8:28 pmWait a minute…
Didn’t Russ Feingold attempt to censure Bush over this very issue over a year ago? Why was John Boy silent then? And where were the dems on this-? Russ was left standin’ with his d&%k in his hand.
Feingold has rock solid integrity.
Gore/Feingold indie ticket!
June 21st, 2007 at 8:30 pmGonzo is a national embarrassment. It boggles my mind that he seems not to have the common sense to resign.
June 21st, 2007 at 9:43 pmCongress needs to drag Gonzales’s ass in and threaten him with Contempt of Congress. If he still won’t “recall” anything, can’t he be sent to jail?
Mycelium, I’d vote for that ticket!
June 21st, 2007 at 9:45 pmAshcroft is a Bushie. Do not ever forget that! He is rotten to the care and a slave of the Bush mafia!
June 21st, 2007 at 10:55 pmI never thought I would cheer John Ashcroft.
