Michael Moore recently put out newspaper advertisements inviting 900 health care industry lobbyists to a free screening of his new film SiCKO. But at the showing last night, only about a dozen actually showed up. “They’re probably busy doing what they do, which is make life miserable for the rest of us,” said Moore.
Just for the record, I invest heavily in health care stocks, so I will be fighting any legislation that attmpts to give medial care for little or no charge to needy children that can’t otherwise afford it. I have my pocket book to think about as do all of you!!
June 21st, 2007 at 1:48 pmSuper size me! MM
June 21st, 2007 at 1:50 pmSpit on and kick that child as you walk by, too, why don’t you. It is just the same as what you said above. F-cking lowlife.
June 21st, 2007 at 1:51 pmFake Jake you are doing an excellent job of posting Real Jakes thoughts, but to do it in the Real Jake style your spelling and grammer has got to be well…more stupid, inane, pointless, etc.
IGNORE THE TROLLS – Debate good, Trolls suck
June 21st, 2007 at 1:52 pmDid he invite all the political prisoners in Cuban jails? If so how many were allowed to attend?
June 21st, 2007 at 1:54 pmImagine that…..
June 21st, 2007 at 1:55 pmBuck Fush,
Nothing fake here. I just decided that I may as well take off the politically correct mask and let you all know what we on the right are really all about.
June 21st, 2007 at 1:56 pmfrom Amy Goodman at commondreams.org:
Michael Moore doesn’t like health insurance companies: “They’re the Halliburtons of the health industry. I mean, they really—they get away with murder. They charge whatever they want. There’s no government control. And frankly, we will not really fix our system until we remove these private insurance companies. I mean, they literally have to be eliminated. They cannot be allowed to exist in this country.â€
In “SiCKO†Michael Moore shows how Hillary Clinton tried to reform the healthcare system as first lady. “She was destroyed as a result of it. I mean, they put out I think well over $100 million to fight her. But to jump ahead here with Hillary, in last year’s Congress, she was the second-largest recipient of health industry money. She may be No. 1 at this point, for all I know. It’s very sad to see … they’re into her pocket, and she’s into their pocket.â€
Moore continued: “By the time of the election, by the primaries, I’m sure all the Democrats are going to be using that word: ‘universal’ coverage. Their plans are going to take our tax dollars and put them into the pockets of these insurance companies. We need to cut out the middleman here. The government can run this program.†This is called a single-payer system.
***Um, excuse me Michael, there’s one candidate proposing a Single Payer System…the guy the corporate networks dare not mention…Dennis Kucinich.
June 21st, 2007 at 1:59 pmThey are scared that Moore’s film may put them out of employment.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:04 pmThere was a time, before the Reagan era, for profit health care did not exist…was not done because it was IMMORAL …Reagan changed that and now look how brazenly shameless the greedy have become. The rest of the world, they are watching this too.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:07 pmThis is Neo-Con Corporatism at work. Nothing more nothing less. The country will not wake up until if affects them painfully and directly. Maybe we are close to that threshold regarding healthcare? Hopefully Moore’s film will push us along.

And can you imagine what is going to happen to all those heavily invested in screwing, killing America by keeping the cost of health care down?
June 21st, 2007 at 2:12 pmAnybody else remember then second Democratic debate on MSNBC? Dennis Kucinich answered a question about his plan for health care. He said his plan is single payer, eliminate the insurance companies and not-for-profit. The audience erupted in cheers. Perhaps the loudest cheering of the night.
Anticipating all this Chris Matthews started to interrupt Kucinich even before he finished his answer. I know Matthews makes a career out of interrupting people but it was clear he didn’t want Kucinch stealing Hillary’s and Barack’s thunder.
God forbid anyone say on television “not-for-profit healthcare”. I think that phrase has been added to George Carlin’s list of seven words you can’t say on t.v.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:21 pmWalter Reed is a not for profit health care hospital. Is that what Kucninich means?
June 21st, 2007 at 2:24 pmUnvarnished > Bush privatized Walter Reed > that is why that hospital is screwed up now.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:27 pmHave you ever read the book about Moore being a big fat stupid white man? When you find out about his lie and hypocrisies you would not want to hear anything from his mouth ever again. Sure, he will accept award for a “Documentaryâ€, but when you point out its falsehoods he will replay by saying it is just entertainment.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:28 pmThat’s Walter Reed under Bush’s watch.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:28 pmHappy Guy,
For the record, you are right. Here’s a guy who is abusing his freedom of speech. And who cares if a child can’t get penicillin for an earache and they die because it wasn’t treated before the infection got into her brain. That’s Natural Selection right. Don’t these libs get it?
June 21st, 2007 at 2:34 pm50 Million+ Uninsured (and growing). Using Hospital Emergency rooms as their personal doctor at many times the cost. Or ignoring health care for years or decades. Then they have a catastrophic problem that could’ve been diagnosed years ago for less. We’re paying for this madness. Paying much more then we have to. The only logical solution is single-payer, not-for-profit. Run correctly this will cost us less…Plus everyone will have coverage. That’s the type of country I want to live in.
I’m afraid the country is going to accept Hillary’s plan, which still involves the insurance companies (she’s taken a boatload of money from them). Its a half-hearted measure that we’ll regret years later. Do it right the first time. Single Payer -Not for profit.

June 21st, 2007 at 2:41 pmWhy is it that those like you can not find anything of substance to bash this guy? So many try very hard with slams against his appearance, his weight… I even heard one freak who never met Moore claim Moore has bad breath.
Moore is a beautiful man…. he does this work for a cause not profit. Legally, he has to call his work entertainment, but we all know this is truly waking up America.
Sorry you may take a loss in your investments or you may be uncomfortable when ALL someday may have health care.
The 47 million figure is a hugely politically inflated number that is nowhere close to reality.
Citing U.S. Census Bureau statistics, 17 million of the uninsured reside in households with more than $50,000 in annual income. Of that total, nine million live in households having more than $75,000 in annual income.
An additional 14 million people are included in that count who are eligible for Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Those people are effectively insured but they haven’t bothered to sign up.
Throw in six million Americans who are uninsured only for part of the year until they find another job, 12 million illegal immigrants who don’t buy health insurance but are included in that number, and finally, 18 million American between 18 and 34 years of age — many of whom can afford health insurance but spend four times as much on alcohol, tobacco, entertainment and dining out as they do on health care costs.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:47 pmJust for the record, Michael Moore’s research crew contacted me last year while preparing for “Sicko”
June 21st, 2007 at 2:47 pm(Don’t know if I’m quoted in it, as they never said if they would use my info or not….but if you hear about a small independent pharmacy from southwest MI in the film…That’s me!)
Does your pharmacy make money?
June 21st, 2007 at 3:05 pmThey don’t need to see the film. They’re lobbyists! The already know all the secrets. Why choose to sit down to be attacked for 2 hours?
Yes, these people are the scum of the earth, next to religious people… but of course they’re not going to voluntarily allow themselves to see first hand the bad they are causing, and to be torn down.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:11 pmWatched Sicko the other night (Sorry Michael! I downloaded it off a torrent! I promise I’ll buy it on DVD…and I’ll take my parents to see it in the theater!). Granted, I’m sure some of it is a bit exaggerated…but out of what isn’t, I’m still shocked! So much so that my wife and I are doing some research and are even considering moving to either England or France. There’s a lot of reasons other than just the health care issue…but I do admit that it was this movie that made us think about it even more.

This is part of the problem. Healthcare should not be a “for profit” concern with their first responsibility to the stockholders, rather than the people who need their services. Let’s nationalize the whole thing.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:27 pmUnvarnished Truth
We can go on and on… carry this thread about disputes over the numbers….But the real bottom line is America is fed up too may screw jobs from the medical community for too may people. It is about time we start getting to We the People as it should be, eliminate this immoral for profit health care system we have – even if it means some insurance industries may have to go elsewhere for profit… or some may be uncomfortable when they see ALL can now qualify for health care. As it stands, 18,000 of the working class dies a year due to lack of health care. Not the disabled or elderly as they have medicare. The average family of 4 pays 12K to 18K a year for health insurance, insurance that does not cover ever everything. This is insane.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:35 pmEvery other industrialized country has accessible health coverage for all… watch the movie … you will see how we are laughed at.
Bravado
don’t move yet… stay and help save America.
I am sure Moore does not care if his movie has been downloaded. He is for saving America, not making a profit.

Bad joke when you consider the 18,000 WORKING CLASS a year losing their life because of no access to health care. I will bet that number is ten fold for those of the working class that have dropped from the middle class to poverty for this reason.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:53 pmBravado…come live in the Pyrenees region of France. I went to the hospital yesterday for an ultrasound and some x-rays. Can’t BEGIN to tell you what an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE it was, and only took an hour, in and out. Completely covered by my Universal Medical Coverage card. But BEWARE the monied interests behind Sarkozy, they are spouting shit about giving France an “American-style” care system!! Total insanity — their will be blood in the streets of France if he DARES to break this best-in-the-world health care.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:53 pmwhy so they can waste time seeing leftwing lies
June 21st, 2007 at 4:04 pmKucinich IS the only candidate for pres ‘08 for completely eliminating the middle man = scandaled for profit health insurance companies and going to single payer for all or medicare for all. The payments per month would be… what,… about 60$ a month?
Also, this, our huge defense budget…tax payers pay into doesn’t have to be this big…Does Haliburton and others really need all that money?
June 21st, 2007 at 4:20 pmCalifornia has a bill pending RIGHT NOW that will bring single payer to the entire state. Arnold vetoed it last year – but with Sicko and national attention on healthcare reform, there is a real chance to make it finally happen.
In fact, Moore premiered Sicko in Sacramento last week and led a rally and march of thousands of California nurses, doctors and citizens on the Capitol lawn in support of the CA bill.
Support the OneCareNow campaign in CA to get it passed into law and veto-proof it, and learn more about the bill to get it working for your state.

June 21st, 2007 at 4:34 pmKyle Smith on Michael Moore’s ‘Sicko’
Tuesday’s New York Post features my review of Michael Moore’s “Sicko,” a film that will be released in theaters on June 29 but has already been released nationwide, on many Web sites, free, with Moore’s blessing. What follows is a greatly expanded, much more detailed version of the one-star review I wrote for the print edition of The Post.
Michael Moore’s latest documentary “Sicko†is an urgent bipartisan plea. Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, Yankees and Red Sox can surely all agree, says Moore, that our health care system ought to be run by Fidel Castro. The silliness of Moore’s oeuvre is so self-evident that being able to spot it is not liberal or conservative either; it’s a basic intelligence test, like the ability to match square peg with square hole. (I’ll be writing more on Moore on my blog, kylesmithonline.com).
Even Moore does not believe what he says, and his films don’t bring about change-—union membership did not skyrocket nor corporate downsizing trickle off after “Roger and Me,” there was no movement towards banning guns after “Bowling for Columbine,” and John Kerry did not have to fill out any change of address forms in 2004. Moore’s documentaries are mere political slapstick that could have been made by a third Farrelly brother or an eighth Stooge. I will pay him the honor of treating him with his own meds. How else can I deal with a film that calls Hillary Clinton “sexy”?

Universal health care will not be free… if it goes single payer they payments will be like medicare about 60$ a month…
Also, we do not need to be paying all this to Haliburton, Black Water… to all the war profiteers….
we are the only industrialized country with a for profit health care system with 18,000 tax payers a year dying because of it + paying outrageous amounts to defense.

You’re a truly good American, You’re12.
You do realize that California accounts for about an eighth of the US economy, don’t you? In 2003, for every dollar California sent to Washington in taxes, it got back 79 cents in expenditures. Alaska got back $1.90 and Mississippi got $1.83. What does that mean? That blue states like California largely finance govenrment spending in red states like Mississippi. Imagine that!
So you might want to re-think your childish tantrum-wish. If you were capable of thinking in the first place, that is.
June 21st, 2007 at 7:28 pm“Unvarnished Truth”: Thanks for that cut-and-paste review from the NY Post. I wonder if the O”Reilly Factor will give the film thumbs up? because, you know I only go to films that get the seal of approval from “fair-and-balanced” Murdoch media outlets. They’re the only ones without an agenda.

Well, yeah, if you repealed the stupidity known as “progressive” taxation, this would go away.
This is your poison pill.
California has over a $1 trillion economy. Liberals think “universal” healthcare is good stuff. Put up or shut up!

June 22nd, 2007 at 2:01 amHe is timing the release for the 2008 campaign. I would sell any health care stock you own. get out before the backlash begins.
June 23rd, 2007 at 11:25 pmFree Universal Health Care. It’s simple and basic, also eliminates the Insurance Industry. I’ll pay 60$ a month.
