Bush aides quit ‘amid little sense of purpose.’

“When asked whether he was quitting the Bush administration because it would be good for his political future, Rob Portman, the outgoing budget director, replied: ‘It would be good for my mental health.’ Although Mr Portman was joking, a growing list of officials have already acted on that impulse. At least 20 senior aides have left important posts in the White House, Pentagon or State Department over the past six months, as chaos has deepened in Iraq. ‘There’s a real sense of fatigue and very little sense of purpose,’ said a senior official, who asked not to be named. ‘My guess is you’re going to see a lot more departures.’”

I would imagine so. Even the most fit of watercarriers wear out.

  2. RUCerious says:

Now if the chymp could just take the damn hint.
    No chance. What, him worry?

  3. TruthToPower says:

Bush is at 26% – democrats at 14%

  4. Timotheus says:

Why does the article claim that he was joking?

Thats just the reporter covering up that the guy was dead serious!

  5. RUCerious says:

This will be good news for a certain goose.
Plenty of vacancies for empty headed goose steppers who are able to chant the party line in unison.

  6. JPark says:

TruthtoPower, don’t you get it Gump? The reason the Dems are not popular is because they are not impeaching your pathetic hero.

  7. Fools on the Hill says:

For a sense of purpose, how about fixing the mess they all made. How do they think the soldiers feel and too bad those dead can’t just quit that.

  8. Jay Randal says:

Good empty out the White House, then leave Bush all alone with Cheney and Rice. Remove all the servants too.

  9. had enough says:

‘There’s a real sense of fatigue and very little sense of purpose,’

with all the scandal to hide, I would imagine the aides have very little to do.

  10. kelso says:

Did they ever have a purpose in the first place when it comes to this administration?

  11. kelso says:

They’re not quitting nor have they been. They were laid off, as their jobs have been progressively outsourced to the RNC.

  12. had enough says:

I would bet they are there for appearances, photo ops … make things look good. Obviously they are not there to be useful. Can you imagine, being a young aide – excited to work for the WH, then the disappointment sets in as you find you are treated as completely useless.

  13. had enough says:

And , nice clean cut kids do not belong in thuggery.

  14. Roket says:

If I didn’t know any better, it sounds as if this administration is about to collapse. If they run the place like a top down hierarchy that would mean the aides do all the work while their bosses bask in the glory of it. You can also bet that the bosses don’t have a clue as to how the aides did their jobs. Who does this leave to actually do the work? As work loads double and stress builds, the rats will be jumping ship in mass. Rude awakening time is near.

I was just going back through some of Wayne’s older posts on his blog, and I ran across a mention of when Rush Limbaugh stated that he was “tired of carrying water for people who didn’t deserve to have their water carried.” Wayne then speculated on how long the dittoheads would continue to listen to Rush. WTF ever happened to that? Apparently Rush was only “tired of carrying water” for a few minutes, because he’s still in his normal full stride carrying water. If any of his listeners heard that line, wouldn’t you think they’d question his hypocrisy? Oh, there’s that word “think” again!

They are very fatigued by all of the exersize they have been getting by covering things up, stabbing each other in the back, pulling the wool over peoples eyes, jumping to bad conclusions, beating around the Bush, twisting in the wind, dodging blame, ducking responsibility, sweeping trouble under the rug and running away from the truth.

    It’s hard work.

Hmmm… I suspect this to be totally true…

Which maybe partially due to Nancy Pelosi’s Table Phobia. =|

    Bah, 19, rather

  22. JPark says:

Wayne, everything was aimed at me lately. Just look at your Bah, 19 rather.

  23. JPark says:

Wayne, you screwed me over. You acted like a liberal. No you are a libertarian?

  24. JPark says:

Screw, Wayne, he is a hypcrite.

  25. Jane E. Schneider says:

JPark, this Wayne isn’t Wayne Schneider. I found the thread you guys were arguing on, don’t worry, Wayne is MUCH closer to Tundra than he is to the Joker. Goodnight (for real this time!)

  26. JPark says:

Jane, I thought it was your Wayne!!! Please tell me wayne is a liberal and not a libertarian!!!!

  27. JPark says:

Jane, I have been all over the place with Wayne. I have to say he has really been pissing me off.

    WTF flew up your a$$?

  29. JPark says:

You are a fan of Joker, unless I have totally misread everything. I am NO fan of Ron Paul and his ilk.

  30. Klerck says:

    Bush has AIDES?

(ok, it’s from the South Park)

  31. Man says:

I wonder if Sandy Berger smuggled Portman out of the White House in his pants?

Speaking of pants, will Hillary Shrew EVER wear a skirt and actually try to look like a woman? Thats the thing about liberals, the women resemble men and the men dress like women.

Im thinking jpark has a closet full of purses..er..I mean ‘male organizers’ as the fanciful salesman at Macy’s explained to him.

  32. the fly-man says:

Couldn’t NBC just offer this guy a million bucks for a download instead of what’s her name? Isn’t the way the governmnet is and has been run not as valuable as an inside view of the LA county crowbar motel? I really find it interesting of late the rights’ move to label the Clinton’s the next Sapranos, when really it’s the Bushs. Not just in character m.o.s but in significance to a never ending, rich narrative of sheer cronyism and party theatrics. it boggles my mind when we get just a whiff of how ruthlessly devoted this crowd is to their hold on power.

  33. Tom3 says:

    Rats leaving the sinking Chimp.

The Repuke trolls in here are getting desperate too.

Maybe they will start quitting too.

  34. Man says:

Aww tom, if we left you wouldnt have the opportunity to enhance both your intelligence and your vocabulary. Its vocabu…oh forget it, the word is just too big for you.

    Weed.

  35. Tom3 says:

Man is an ignorant, inbred, redneck Repuke troll who hates our Constitution.

Man, you have nothing to say. You’re an idiot.

  36. Tom3 says:

The CIA is declassifying 50 years of their criminal activities today.

    Repukes should be proud.

  37. the fly-man says:

I think the next election should be referred to as the next election PURGE cycle. The government’s collective toilet needs to be flushed of anything associated with this administration. I’m not suggesting banishment, but just good ole recognition that just like a antibiotics, a new Democratic majority would need to be sustained to suppress any leftover deviant and resistant strains of this pathogen style rulership we’ve been subjected to.Too many mechanisms that are in place to undermine our liberties are ready to be handed over to the next benefactors of the ruling class wing of the GOP. Nothing pleases me more than a major real estate flip in DC post elections.

  38. Zimzone says:

I can’t imagine what it must be like to report to work in an atmosphere of arrogant, flag waving, lying, self consumed hypocrites that routinely put Party over Country on a daily basis.

‘Little sense of purpose’ is an apt descriptor. When the only purpose is Party, what can Americans expect out of this administration?

I’ll answer that…same shit. Different day.

  39. Publicus says:

As opposed as I am to the Bush administration, isn’t it common for officials to leave a lame duck president rather than stay to the end of the term? I mean, this way, these officials are still a hot commodity. Later, they are less so…
