Mitt, Mitt, Mitt….hold on there just a second. You’d better realize that this certainly will not catapault your ratings one iota and what you say is patently false. It’s become an international symbol of how americans torture and nothing more.
Serious faux pas on Romney’s part. His numbers are going down so he’s making stupid mistakes now. His campaign will tank in the coming months, that’s certain.
Unless, of course, you subscribe to the same “boogeyman” whom Bush would love everyone to fear and it sounds like you do….and you call yourself a “man of faith”….. You know what they say about the diametric opposition of Faith and Fear, don’t you, Mitt.
Heinous….terrorists…..isn’t that a foregone conclusion and an unnecessary repetitive? Just wondering where Old Mitt was educated? He’s beginning to sound like he went to the same school as Dumbya….his boogeymen are the “evildoers”….*lights lower, background bass strums out a sequence of blasts amid the rising rink of a creaking door hings….*** Woo Woo Careful or the Boogey man might get you, Romney.
So let’s see: locking innocent people up forever with no access to an attorney, to the evidence against them, no opportunity to protest, no hope, no future — this is “a symbol of our resolve?” Our resolve for what, exactly?
It’s a disgusting symbol of how americans torture their captured and it’s a blackmark on this Country. As Colin Powell said – close it “yesterday”! The longer it remains open and a symbol of our level of heinousness, the more damage it does to this country and it’s inhabitants internationally.
I listened to an interview this afternoon on Democracy Now, with
Rocky Anderson, the mayor of Salt Lake City.
He stated he has known Mitt Romney for a long time, and is dismayed at Romney’s about face with regards to torture policy, abortion, and the Iraq war.
Anderson repeatedly made the statement that
Romney has “caved in to his handlers.”
He (Rocky Anderson) seemed dismayed that anyone, in particular a presidential candidate, could espouse the views Romney is now cuddling up to.
And also saddened that a person whom he has known for some time is willing to abandon personal conviction and pander to the neo-conservative radical militarist evangelicals.
When one of these eejits uses Bush’s favorite word (Resolve), you know he’s scraping the bottom of the barrel and knows that his campaign is losing ground.
Romney’s just another “garden variety sycophantic bootlicker” who has sold his soul to the devil for a modicum of acceptance by the rank & file GOP. That’s all this guy is. Shallow, empty, and compromisable. Something we definitely don’t need in the white house again.
The blog Rising Hegemon brought this Boston Globe article to my attention.
“As the Vietnam War raged in the 1960s, Mitt Romney received a deferment from the draft as a Mormon “minister of religion†for the duration of his missionary work in France, which lasted two and a half years.
Before and after his missionary deferment, Romney also received nearly three years of deferments for his academic studies. When his deferments ended and he became eligible for military service in 1970, he drew a high number in the annual lottery that determined which young men were drafted. His high number ensured he was not drafted into the military…
“By serving as a missionary and being given the deferment, Romney ensured that he would not be drafted from July 1966 until February 1969. Romney’s draft record from the time describes him as “minister of religion or divinity student.†Mayo said the church would have considered Romney a minister.
Romney, who has said he would have served if he had been drafted, shed some light on his view of the matter in a recent interview with the Globe.
“I really don’t recall thinking about political positions when I was knocking at the door in France†as a missionary, Romney said. “I was supportive of my country. I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam.â€
This statement is ridiculous…also ridiculous is the notion that people of color have the mark of Cain which is taught in his religion – the Mormon religion. Weird stuff.
Olbermann just reported that 50 of the nation’s best and brightest high school students were at the WH for a recognition ceremony. They presented Bush with a letter from themselves and in it they beseeched him to stop torture and illegal detention of captives, because they don’t want their country to be kow for torture and violations of the Geneva convention.
He supposedly replied, “the US does not torture.”
I bet that took him by surprise.
I am proud of the intelligence and courage of those 50 students.
Olbermann applauded them as heroes of the day.
Romney should know. From July 1966 to February 1969, Romney’s Vietnam deferment let him perform his mission outside of Paris, not in the rice paddies outside of Hue.
oops, sorry hayseus. you said it better than i did.

It takes time to fill the paperwork. Then we will put them on trial with the new military commissions.
Yeah, they’ve been held for FOUR YEARS.
If there is EVIDENCE, why not PRESENT IT?
Come to think of it, when Hillary Clinton becomes President, she should JAIL Bush and Cheney FOREVER, and tell us the paperwork is “being worked on”….
They are TRAITORS to the USA, and should be HANGED…
Why? Because the courts keep putting up more paperwork!

It is precisely statements like these that will prevent an idiot like Romney from being elected.
It is not a symbol to terrorists; they don’t give a shit. It is a symbol to everyone esle in the civilized world that World WAr II never happened and Nuremburg means NOTHING!!!
Someone has to explain to me how keeping people who had nothing to do with 9/11 caged for years and without due process helps “protect our nation from violent, heinous terrorists”.
If what Romney is trying to say is that he is in favor of throwing people in jail “preemptively”, well, then the US government better start building more jails. An awful lot of them.
‘Someone has to explain to me how keeping people who had nothing to do with 9/11 caged for years and without due process helps “protect our nation from violent, heinous terroristsâ€. ‘
They have no clue who is threatening them. They are kinda wimpy. A freaking little league team would be tougher than them.
Symbol of resolve – the US resolves to pay people up to $5000 a head, take you from your home, tie you up and blindfold you, stick you in a cell, deny you access to a lawyer to help you receive ‘due process’ and water board you until you can think of the right answer to the ‘are you a terrorist?’ question.
How is this douchebag a presidential candidate? How did he get elected in Massachusetts, the land of Kerry and Kennedy?
I don’t know why anyone would take Romney seriously when he’s a member of one of the most obsurd religions of all time. Does he actually think that Jesus lived in Missouri? And what about Black people were banned from ministry up until the 1970s?
What a dick. At one of the debates, didn’t he say he didn’t believe in evolution? How can anyone respect that sort of ignorance?
Yeah Mitt, you are right. It is protecting us from all those violent heinous terrorists whom we purchased for $5,000 each. I feel ever so much safer now.
Every time Romney opens his mouth, he adds further evidence that he would be undesirable as president.
hmmm – maybe he will get the nomination and doom the party.
The majority of people held in Guantanamo were completely and totally innocent. Even today, we are holding people that we have acknowledged are completely innocent.
LOL – and Guantanamo protects us from BushCo how?

June 25th, 2007 at 10:22 pmOh Wayne…is that all the lyrics we get from you? I KNOW you have so much more in you!! :)
June 25th, 2007 at 10:26 pm#82
Much moreso than modern Democrats, absolutely. Back then, the Democrats knew what it meant to be a defense hawk.
June 25th, 2007 at 10:27 pmWhat innocents? They are Islamic terrorists!
OK, if that IS the case, PUT THEM ON TRIAL and PROVE IT.
If they ARE terrorists, jail them forever or EXECUTE them.
If they are NOT terrorists, let them go.
You DO believe that there is PROOF of what you say, don’t you? If so, let it be PROVED….
OR are you AFRAID that there is NO PROOF, but it’s OK to jail indefinitely WITHOUT PROOF???
June 25th, 2007 at 10:33 pmromney loves gitmo as much as chris matthews loves how mitt smells
June 25th, 2007 at 10:33 pmGitmo is now MITTMO, in honor of the CHICKENHAWK Romney and TRAITOR Bush…
June 25th, 2007 at 10:35 pm#89
It takes time to fill the paperwork. Then we will put them on trial with the new military commissions.
June 25th, 2007 at 10:36 pmIt takes time to fill the paperwork.
June 25th, 2007 at 10:42 pm#93
Why? Because the courts keep putting up more paperwork!
June 25th, 2007 at 10:43 pmWhy? Because the courts keep putting up more paperwork!
EVIDENCE of your claim, or just another Rush-like LIE from another Nazi azzhole-licker of TRAITOR Bush the MURDERER coxucker PUNK???
Yup….
June 25th, 2007 at 10:44 pmPut TRAITORS Bush and Cheney in MITTMO!! Until they die, and go to HELL…
June 25th, 2007 at 10:50 pmIt takes time to fill the paperwork.

Not even in the Soviet Union bureaucracy was so damn slow.

Thanks, MsJoanne. That gives me an idea. I think I’ll go work on it. I’ll let these guys battle it out for now while i go write. I’ll drop in later. :)
June 25th, 2007 at 10:56 pmThis idiot Romney is a joke, but so are the other GOP candidates. Perhaps that is what the 29%ers find so appealing, like Hee-Haw.
June 25th, 2007 at 10:59 pmDeal, Wayne, you and your wife are great.
June 25th, 2007 at 11:08 pmMittWitt – very good. A keeper.
MittMo – Another.
Question is, does Gitmo serve the purpose of a deterrant, or an accelerant? Are most potentioal terraists deterred by Gitmo, or inflamed?
June 25th, 2007 at 11:13 pm“Much moreso than modern Democrats, absolutely. Back then, the Democrats knew what it meant to be a defense hawk.”
Defense hawk? Are you joking? When was the last time the US defended itself, m12?
June 25th, 2007 at 11:21 pmHey, anyone got change for a Bush? This machine only takes Cheneys.

LOL, “Stinky”!
June 25th, 2007 at 11:26 pmCurrently, JPark. The US was assaulted on 911.
June 25th, 2007 at 11:26 pmDeal, Wayne, you and your wife are great.

Oh, pshaw! :-)
June 25th, 2007 at 11:28 pmCurrently, JPark. The US was assaulted on 911.
Yup, by Bush’s SAUDI FRIENDS, who are STILL FUNDING Al Queda…
So, naturally, TRAITOR Bush attacked Iraq, letting Bin Laden go…
June 25th, 2007 at 11:32 pmBush and Cheney are COXUCKER punk TRAITORS to the USA.
m12, assaulted by whom? Does that give us the right to invade whomever we want?
June 25th, 2007 at 11:32 pmAgain, m12, when was the last time we DEFENDED OURSELVES!!
June 25th, 2007 at 11:33 pmI know, m12, lets attack Iraq!!!! Because they didn’t attack us on 9/11!!!!! Good f^cking idea!!!!
June 25th, 2007 at 11:33 pmBy the way, m12, that was an insult to your intelligence.
June 25th, 2007 at 11:34 pmRomney > your 5 sons need to join the military, or shut your damn hypocrite yapper.
June 26th, 2007 at 12:10 amIt is precisely statements like these that will prevent an idiot like Romney from being elected.
It is not a symbol to terrorists; they don’t give a shit. It is a symbol to everyone esle in the civilized world that World WAr II never happened and Nuremburg means NOTHING!!!
June 26th, 2007 at 12:21 amSomeone has to explain to me how keeping people who had nothing to do with 9/11 caged for years and without due process helps “protect our nation from violent, heinous terrorists”.
If what Romney is trying to say is that he is in favor of throwing people in jail “preemptively”, well, then the US government better start building more jails. An awful lot of them.
June 26th, 2007 at 12:27 amOh Wayne…is that all the lyrics we get from you? I KNOW you have so much more in you!! :)
Comment by MsJoanne — June 25, 2007 @ 10:26 pm
Now look what you’ve done, MsJoanne. (It’s on my blog.)
And with that, I bid you all good night.
June 26th, 2007 at 12:44 am‘Someone has to explain to me how keeping people who had nothing to do with 9/11 caged for years and without due process helps “protect our nation from violent, heinous terroristsâ€. ‘
They have no clue who is threatening them. They are kinda wimpy. A freaking little league team would be tougher than them.
June 26th, 2007 at 12:45 amIs there any doubt that Republicans are the stupidest people in the world?
June 26th, 2007 at 6:50 amSymbol of resolve – the US resolves to pay people up to $5000 a head, take you from your home, tie you up and blindfold you, stick you in a cell, deny you access to a lawyer to help you receive ‘due process’ and water board you until you can think of the right answer to the ‘are you a terrorist?’ question.
June 26th, 2007 at 8:39 amHow is this douchebag a presidential candidate? How did he get elected in Massachusetts, the land of Kerry and Kennedy?
I don’t know why anyone would take Romney seriously when he’s a member of one of the most obsurd religions of all time. Does he actually think that Jesus lived in Missouri? And what about Black people were banned from ministry up until the 1970s?
What a dick. At one of the debates, didn’t he say he didn’t believe in evolution? How can anyone respect that sort of ignorance?
June 26th, 2007 at 8:58 amYeah Mitt, you are right. It is protecting us from all those violent heinous terrorists whom we purchased for $5,000 each. I feel ever so much safer now.
June 26th, 2007 at 9:16 amEvery time Romney opens his mouth, he adds further evidence that he would be undesirable as president.
June 26th, 2007 at 10:29 amhmmm – maybe he will get the nomination and doom the party.
“What innocents? They are Islamic terrorists!”
The majority of people held in Guantanamo were completely and totally innocent. Even today, we are holding people that we have acknowledged are completely innocent.
