Matthews explains Coulter segment: ‘She sells books.’
MSNBC is heavily promoting an appearance by Ann Coulter on tomorrow’s Hardball. Coulter hasn’t appeared on Hardball since July 27, 2006 when she called Vice President Al Gore a “total fag.” Tonight, host Chris Matthews made an odd justification for booking the conservative bombthrower: “Say what you will, she sells books.” Watch it:

Actually, she doesn’t sell as many books as one would think. What happens is that the RNC and other conservative groups buy pallets of her books. These all register as sold. And when they can’t sell or give away the books, they have the remainder shredded. If they returned them to the publisher for a credit, then her “sales” would go down. But because they shred the books, her “sales” look much higher than they really are. It’s a scam that the RNC has been doing with conservative authors for quite some time.
And even if she did sell books, that’s no excuse for Matthews to have that screaming drunk harpy on his show. Chris Matthews has become a joke, and it is not a funny joke.

Ignore them and there’s no voice pinting out their lies and hatred, and disinterested observers could get the idea that this is okay on television.
The public only has a voice because enough members of it express their opinions in various ways.
If we keep silent about crap that drags down our national discourse and coarsens our national character in the mistaken belief that silence will solve the problem, we’re not taking a lot of responsibility for our view point and have little room to complain when things continue to go down the sh!tter.

You can figure it out for yourself. Every single Coulter book, when listed on the NYT Bestseller list, has a little mark next to it which means “bulk buys.” What this means is that Richard Mellon Sciafe or someone like him bought tens of thousands of them and put them in a warehouse. The NYT has been informing people of bulk buys on its best seller list for years now. You must have missed it.

To date, the war has cost over $340 billion dollars—money which could have been spent much more wisely and with better end results but it has also made many of Bush’s cronies very very wealthy.

How about the freedom WE have to say we don’t like her, won’t watch her and hold people accountable who associate with her. You don’t think we have the freedom to choose who we will watch or not watch. We also have the right to let sponsor know we don’t appreciate who they’re sponsoring.
