Today, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke at Pat Robertson’s Regent University. In the opening of his speech, he congratulated Robertson for the “influence” Regent has:
Thank you very, very much, Pat. Thank you for the very kind words and the introduction. And thank you for having me here.
I am very, very impressed with Regent University, when I consider that it was founded just a short while ago. The number of graduates that you have and the amount of influence that you have is really, really terrific.
And of all the many things that you’ve done — and there have been many, and many contributions…
Regent is ranked a “tier four” school by US News & World Report, “the lowest score and essentially a tie for 136th place.” Yet approximately one in six Regent graduates are employed in government work, and 150 serve in the Bush administration.
Monica Goodling, the former top aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales who graduated from Regent’s law school, perhaps best exemplifies the “terrific” influence Regent is exerting on the nation. Last month, Goodling admitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee that she had “taken inappropriate political considerations into account” while hiring career employees at the Justice Department. At one point she even pressured Michael Battle, head of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, to replace two long-standing Justice officials with “a fellow Regent law school graduate.”
The “amount of influence” that Regent has had is a testimony to the willingness of some of its graduates to place partisan loyalties over principle.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) also recently spoke at Regent and commended Robertson for his “dedication to strengthening and then nurturing the pillars of this community and our country.”
Yuk! I am going to puke, or is that re-puke?

Heh, while the U.S. News rankings are certainly debatable, there is NO debate when it comes to these "fourth tier" schools. They suck, plain and simple. No amount of wishful thinking will change the fact that not all degrees are created equal. This isn't about political correctness; this is about low LSAT scores, terrible undergraduate educations, poor quality of teaching.

That could be true -- in a very negative sense. Robertson is influential, all right, in a terrifically negative sense.
The fawning and the sucking up is nauseating. Robertson has made milions, not only on old ladies sending in their social security money, but on slave labor in diamond mines, and a host of other unethical enterprises.
The man is not a man of god, he is the devil incarnate.
June 26th, 2007 at 5:37 pmGiuliani, challenged as he is in morals, doesn't see that.
From the mouth of the horse's ass himself:
If Christian people work together, they can succeed during this decade in winning back control of the institutions that have been taken from them over the past 70 years. Expect confrontations that will be not only unpleasant but at times physically bloody.... This decade will not be for the faint of heart, but the resolute. Institutions will be plunged into wrenching change. We will be living through one of the most tumultuous periods of human history. When it is over, I am convinced God's people will emerge victorious.

"Individual Christians are the only ones really -- and Jewish people, those who trust God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob -- are the only ones that are qualified to have the reign, because hopefully, they will be governed by God and submit to Him."
-- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, January 11, 1985, defending his stance that only Christians and Jews are fit to hold public office
"I never said that in my life ... I never said only Christians and Jews. I never said that."
-- Pat Robertson, Time magazine, after having been confronted regarding his statement on The 700 Club of January 11, 1985
"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. "What do you mean?" the media challenged me. "You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo-Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?" My simple answer is, "Yes, they are.""

June 26th, 2007 at 6:01 pmHey, I think it's smart business to start at a community college. Why pay tuition to a Univ (which is pretty amazing these days) when you can do two years at a CC, get a good GPA which will transfer, and then finish up at a ful U? I think you have a better chance of getting into the U you want, too, if you have a solid GPA along with the other stuff they want (extra curricular stuff).
Makes fiscal sense to me.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:02 pmYes, community college to get your AA degree is a very good idea, my daughter did that (3.99 gpa) but she had to work very hard in student government and student council to get accepted to Mount Holyoke, glad she did the first 2 years at a CC, Mount Holyoke is gonna cost me 84K for 2 years, she will do her post graduate here at the University of Washington.

A lot of the people that the Bush Crime Family has fired for political purposes are also civil servants. So, why can Bush do it and a Democratic President not be able to do it.
Besides, I'm fairly sure that most of those Regent University graduates are way out of their league and will be able to be fired for cause.
That us the problem that the Republics don't see. That Bush is setting precedents that if not stopped, will be followed by other Presidents, even Democratic presidents.
That's why I keep asking them the question they never will answer and that is "If this was a Democratic administration doing these things, would they still be OK with you". I have as yet had a troll answer that question and even my Republic acquaintances can't answer it. They will say "that would be different", but can't say why it would be different. I think in order to have the ability to be a Republic you have to be a total hypocrite in your soul.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:08 pmAnother TP oversight. You didn't include what Rudy said in his speech. This is good stuff that will drive Olbermann nuts..I love it!
"Islamic terrorists killed more than 500 Americans before Sept. 11. Many people think the first attack on America was on Sept. 11, 2001. It was not. It was in 1993," said the former New York mayor.
Giuliani argued that Clinton treated the World Trade Center bombing as a criminal act instead of a terrorist attack, calling it "a big mistake" that emboldened other strikes on the Khobar Towers housing complex in Saudi Arabia, in Kenya and Tanzania and later on the USS Cole while docked in Yemen in 2000.
"The United States government, then President Clinton, did not respond," Giuliani said. "(Osama) bin Laden declared war on us. We didn't hear it."
In hindsight, Giuliani said, maybe it's all clearer now, "but now is now, and there is no reason to go back into denial, and that is essentially what the Democratic candidates for president want to do: they want to go back, to put the country in reverse to the 1990s

June 26th, 2007 at 6:17 pm"Anyone who want to success in life, can. Comment by Buck Fush"
Oh really. Even if I am born to a crack addicted mother and live in a ghetto with terrible schools and no law enforcement. All I have to do is "want" to be a success and it will come to me. I don't think so.
The only way a kid today (other than the children of the rich) can be a success is if their parents are willing to mortgage their house and their soul to pay to send them to good schools. I put my daughter through a 2nd tier law school and will be paying for it pretty much for the rest of my life. That kid who was born in the ghetto won't have a parent who can or has the ability to do this for them.

That kid should take advantage of all of the wonderful opportunities that are available.
Unless, of course, the kid is a white male.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:21 pmCT...you appear to have little understanding of the law school hierarchy. While it is sometimes true that a potential employers place little weight on the prestige of undergrad degrees, that is MOST DEFIANTLY not the case for law schools. Law schools are all about prestige and law firms hire and fire on that basis. While top 10 type law schools (Cal, Harvard, Stanford) grad average between 125,000-150,000 starting with near full employment, tier 4 school grads generally have less then half employement in law and have starting wages around 30,000-45,000 dollars. Law is a unbelievable competitive field, and those with lesser degrees struggle to find good employment opportunities
According to all law school well-known analysts (that judge school on the bases of starting incomes, employment, BAR passage rate, prestige rankings among judges, etc- not political bias), Regent is the rock bottom. Take a look at the numbers...http://www.ilrg.com/rankings/law/view.php/71
Regent have less then half their grads employed at graduation and when they do find a job, it's less then 45,000 dollars a year. That is terrible for the type of hard work that law requires. The BAR passage rates are also very weak in comparison with decent schools.

June 26th, 2007 at 6:24 pmThank you very, very much, Pat.
This reads like a paper turned in by a high school student who was repeating as many words as possible so that it would fill up the required minimum length of 2 pages.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:25 pmRegent University: I'll bet their undergrad catalog reads like an exhibit list at the Creation Museum. (More like "Cretin" Museum, if you ask me.)

Katie, You're so right. Our best minds are wasted sometimes because of the inequities of a system that rewards legacy, etc. I wish there was a way for all to meet their potential. What a world we would have.
Katie - the girl that will be my daughters room mate was a highschool dropout from the ghetto - she thru her own will and work got also a 3.99 gpa and the presidents award - so yes you can.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:44 pmI wonder if rudy remembered to take his knee pads with him. When you do the monica you really do need to remember to bring your knee pads.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:52 pmI'll give a little background story on her - her family came here from Cambodia when she was 14, she could not speak english, she little in a very poor part of town with many other SE asian families. Frustrated with high school she dropped out. But after a while she knew she had to be something better, she put her self thru CC to get her AA degree, was Class President and graduated with honors, an this is the type that Ivy League Colleges want, people with selfmotivated drive and ambition. Now not everyone can do that, but most people can if they try.
June 26th, 2007 at 6:54 pmTwo comments about Regent U: One, forget how good (or bad) their law program is... think about all the "extras" they carry out with them, like the brainwashing of the far right religious training, that is required to graduate. And the nuanced input from the Instructors/Professors who have an agenda to get their ideology imbedded into not just the Government, but into all of society. Two, would ANY of the trolls here hire a science graduate who was taught Creationism to work in their labs/clinics, etc? And would you want one of their grads as your cancer or spinal cord doctor, since they don't believe in any stem cell research or application? OR maybe have one of them work on your daughter, who was brutally raped and needs to have an abortion.
Will await your reply, but doubt if anyone will take me up on this.

June 26th, 2007 at 7:15 pmRegent is ranked a “tier four†school by US News & World Report, “the lowest score and essentially a tie for 136th place.â€
And I garunteeya Regent U is cooking the grades and dumbing down the free thinking stuff like real law schools teach and instead teaching to the test. CHEATIN' BASTARDS!!!
Everytime I am forced (and I mean forced) to go to jury duty or need to hire a lawyer or an accountant, then I will forever and ever (amen) make sure that person is not a graduate of Regent U or Liberty U.

Next time try asking a pertinent question.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:40 pmUpside I'm responding......Rant from a Regent student.
#1 Not everyone at Regent likes Pat Robertson
#2 U.S. News rankings are bogus and are widely criticized.
#3 I want Ron Paul for President
#4 If you didn't know all Law schools that have been created in the last 30 years are ranked as a low tier school (majority). Liberal U.S. news isn't going to rank Regent higher anytime soon, I'm ok with that.
#5 I'm not for killing babies but I believe the government doesn't has a right to make that decision for anyone. We don't care about overturning Roe v. Wade or gay people not having rights. I think they should have rights because "Everyman was created equal".
#6 For comment #111 I'm not going to represent your dumbass, learn how to spell.
#7 Don't put me in the Christian Zealous category because I go to Regent. This accounts for 90% of Regent students.
#8 Dick Cheney and Alberto Gonzalez are retarded. Gonzalez went to Harvard, it just's goes to show don't judge the University but the person.
#9 Monica Blondling is not the brightest bulb and we all don't like her for bruising our school and most of her law education was from American University anyway. Doesn't she seem like a "dumb blonde" to you? I believe in hiring democrats because it brings balance! Balance is important if their's only view then you tend to overlook possibilities.
#10 Most of our professors are from Harvard of the attorney general Ashcroft etc.
#11 Everytime an article like this appears we win.
#12 Way to make news out of nothing. This is stupid.
#13 Just because we're Christian doesn't give you a right to judge us. You have no idea who we are or what were about and what are views are.
#14 I don't want Gulianni for President, if his wives can't trust him how can we (3)? Sound like a authoritarian Yes man who will do anything for the vote.
#15 For comment #97 maybe because some law students go into pro bono and humanitarian work instead of making a load of money. Money doesn't measure success or bring happiness sorry to tell you.
#16 Regent is accredited by the ABA which is the same accreditation for every law school. Catholic University isn't ranked because they choose not to be and liberty doesn't have full accreditation so their not ranked so Regent has the balls to be a part of U.S. news rankings even though they know they will be batched. Also we arent 136th that was pulled out of the Boston Globes ass. Only top 100 are rated the rest fall in tierr 3 and 4.
#17 Regent compared to ODU and TCC here in Virginia Beach is no comparison.
#18 Upside you don't know me why do you already hate me? Sounds like the Nazi's.
#19 Did you know many democrats go to Regent and everytime you bash this school you disservice your own kind.
#20 Regent's state bar passage rate is 73%, in states like California the average is like 43% or something. Virginia has a harder bar then some states. No we can't compete with University of Virginia or William and Mary that have been around for hundred or so years!
#21 Only a few graduates at the law school you make it sound like were taking over the world and need to be eliminated.
#22 That many going into government is very minuscule compared to the amount of people in the executive branch. How many do you think other universities have?
#23 I'm at Regent because I wanted something spiritual to further my relationship with God. I've attended the liberal huge state colleges, wanted something different. Whether you agree with that or not you should respect that.
#24 There are some misconceptions about Christians and Regent people, for once I believe in evolution and I believe in Creationism how you all overall criticize it like we only believe God created the earth 2000 years ago and evolution is fake. For instance I believe that something had to spark the universe such as a creator.
#25 Don't take the bible so literally.
#26 A lot of people at Regent like to party.
#27 Don't take Pat Robertson literally.
#28 He makes me laugh with his ramblings.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:49 pmGiuliani's children don't talk to him.
June 27th, 2007 at 12:11 amHey perhaps Rudy Giuliani might marry Pat Robertson and both of them run off together somewhere. We all know that Rudy would be the bride > lol.
June 27th, 2007 at 1:10 amIs it just me, or does Pat Robertson resemble Java the Hut more each day?
June 27th, 2007 at 1:24 amThey all have to pray, praise Pat Robertson and claim to be the defenders of values at his doorsteps....
How pathatic that is !!, that a guy like Pat should help these candidates in their resumes and make them march to the White House...
And now Giuliani is seeking Pat's blessings....something 'The Founders' of this country trying to avoid..mixing religion and politics...and now here in this 21st Century a guy like Pat playing a major factor in these campaigning candidates' path to the presidency.
June 27th, 2007 at 6:55 am"The thing is, no-body cares. You could be doing manufacturing at McDonald’s or be posting from a wheelchair while reflecting on 2D+1 quantum gravity. Aren’t comment sections great?"

Thing is, your hombre 'unbelievable' tends to care, and cares to project. I wasn't exactly speaking without purpose there, so don't pretend otherwise.
Viva America!
June 27th, 2007 at 7:22 amChurch of God, I don't think so. They build their church by selling god to the poor. The church investments that are made in wall street are questionable. So, is this church of god or another corrupt religions leadership who claim to speak for god. These people have build their church on back of poor and then left them out.
June 27th, 2007 at 8:41 amPrimus - what is not pertinent? The fact that you want religion injected into the US government? Or that you want science taught with Creationism as its foundation?
Guess that might explain it, then.
June 27th, 2007 at 9:01 amThe fact that a total loon (!) like Roberts can be at the helm of a university is groundbreakingly incomprehensible. This is a fellow that 'thinks' god is speaking to him and if that were true god would be a terrible liar because the things Pat says that god said are simply....groundbreakingly incomprehensible. In 2004 Pat said god told him that 2005 would be a great year for Bush and the war on terror(!). And in 2005, god told Pat exactly the same for 2006! Also, in both 'godversations' god supposedly told Pat that in 2005 and 06 there would be a massive amount of miracles and Bush would have win after win after win. Someone lock him up already, mkay? He is insulting my god and I'm not taking it from an idiot, malignant and self-centered freak like him or anyone who can even stand to be in Pat's presence. Pat is as good a human as Bush is president.

June 27th, 2007 at 1:51 pmThe worst part of all this is that these bungholes actually have to kiss the rings of these religious fanatics to get street cred for their campaigns. The only peep of opposition I've heard out of any of them was Obama a few days ago talking about faith being highjacked for political purposes. Of course, he was talking to another religious bunch when he said it. The irony and pathos overwhelms me sometimes.
June 27th, 2007 at 1:55 pmCT V_1
Sounds like you're in favor of Regent University, as it graduates people just as Harvard, Iowa State, Liberty, or any community college in the nation. So there should be no worries then that Mitt and Rudy (and countless others) pander to them as opposed to any other school.
Did you graduate from Regent?
June 27th, 2007 at 2:17 pmA couple of whack jobs. Anyone who buys into either of them is too. There, I said it. Whatever happened to the separation of church and state?
June 27th, 2007 at 2:31 pmHey....If the government gave me $13 Million dollars, like they gave to Idiot Pat's right-wing TV sermon, the 700 club, I could have a lot more influence also.
I have to ask:
Why is a far right-wing religious organization receiving any U.S. Tax money?
Why is it always quietly done under the rug, or behind the door?
Power, Politics, Money, Secrecy, and Religion are the tools these people use ....all so republicans can obtain power and keep all the rest of us from knowing what is really going on.
I want religion and secrecy out of my government NOW!
June 27th, 2007 at 2:37 pmWhat in my post, CTV2, would lead you to believe I supported Regent University? No, I didn't graduate from Regent.
