Restoring law and justice.

Restoring law and justice.

The ACLU and other civil liberties groups have declared today a Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice. The ACLU will be “rallying on Capitol Hill and visiting congressional offices asking Congress to restore the right of habeas corpus.” Christy Hardin Smith has toll-free call-in numbers so you can contact your representatives, or sign MoveOn’s petition HERE. ACLU’s FindHabeas will be live-blogging throughout the day.

Thank you ACLU, I believe in all rights for terrorists.

  2. Jay Randal says:

Good, but will the Democrats in Congress take action to do it? I give up on fascist Republicans to do anything decent.

They took away your right to Habeas Corpus. So, I guess you’re a terrorist. Either that or a moron. I’m hopig you’re just a moron.

Equal legal rights are good for everyone – it’s simply the just thing to do. And, it keeps things honest when the process is kept above board. Do you understand this?

  7. MsJoanne says:

Amen, PLC! How about a trial for ANY ONE of the people who have been held for more than four years? Not one single trial has taken place. There is no proof and all these people are being held with no recourse.

I wonder how Ed and other republicans would feel if they were held in a soviet style detention center forever with no way out. You’re not guilty just because someone says you are. That’s what trials are for.

I keep trying the direct numbers of my reps and the lines are busy. Keep up the good work guys!

Here’s a link to direct numbers if you want to bypass the toll free lines: http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/

  8. RemoveBush says:

I don’t know why ANYONE would have to pettion for this….

Section 9 – Limits on Congress

    ….

The privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

Seems pretty straight forward to me……

There is NO LAW that can over rule this, so why are we even having this discussion????

  9. Tom3 says:

They’re accused of terrorism, dumbass troll.

Over half of US detainees wrer found to be innocent.

Repuke troll favors imprisoning the innocent.

The problem is that there HAS been a rebellion, the Bush Administration.

True, but a backdoor one not one that the founders wrote about……

  12. Tom3 says:

That’s because Chimpy and Cheney think they’re above the law.

  13. whiteyfresh says:

just signed the petiton!!everyone help us bring back AMERICA!!!

  14. MsJoanne says:

Don’t just sign, CALL! And WRITE LETTERS! Letters are better than email.

  15. Ben B says:

Besides the obvious point that we’re talking about habeas corpus for *accused* terrorists, yes, I honestly believe that even the real terrorists are entitled to some basic human rights.

    A short, incomplete list follows:
    1) The right to counsel
    2) The right to a trial once being accused of a crime
    3) The right to see the evidence against them
    4) The right not to be tortured
    5) The right not to be executed

The list goes on, but seriously, even people guilty of wanting to do great harm to us are still deserving of these rights. How can you, as a fellow human, try to deny another human of these rights? It’s just incomprehensible to me. We’re all humans. The world gets messed up. There has been enough violence and injustice throughout history – enough to cause many humans to take turns retaliating with more violence and injustice. It has got to stop, and more violence and injustice isn’t going to stop it. Violence and injustice are not going to end violence and injustice – just like wars don’t bring peace.

The only way to stop this downward spiral is to just stop with the violence and injustice. As Jesus would say, turn the other cheek.

  16. VerbalKint says:

#1 What a ridiculous straw man.

  17. Jeremy says:

    Ben B:

No, they do not have the right not to be executed. They do have the right not to be killed in cold blood, definitely. Right to Trial covers that…a fair trial with the evidence presented against them is a basic right. But mind you, the death penalty IS a valid sanction in this country, and for mass murder, it is a _just_ sanction.

  18. SGT Higgins says:

Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice — Are they supporting restoration of law and justice across the board?? Does this mean they support criminalization of ILLEGAL immigrants??? Oh, or are they picking and choosing to whom they would like to restore law and justice to?

  19. Wayne says:

While they are at it, Posse Comatatus ( gutted by John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007, now public law H.R. 5122) needs to be restored also.

Trolls are probably as ignorant of posse comatatus as they are habeus corpus………

  21. Frank J says:

    FUN FACTS ABOUT AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

    * Amnesty International was co-founded by Eddie Amnesty and Louie International, and it was named after their fathers.

    * It started out as more of a fight club, but eventually, as always happened, it evolved into an organization that tries to free political prisoners.

    * Amnesty International has been around a really long time. Back in the Wild West, they made sure mob justice was at least sanitary.

    * They still have a few unanswered petitions sent in about the Spanish Inquisition.

    * After personally filing a complaint to a lion about its treatment of zebra, the resultant loss of limb convinced them to stick to abuses done by people.

    * With all the murder, oppression, and horrors in the world today, they’ve decided the most pressing issue is America not giving terrorist prisoners free HBO.

    * Oh, and they don’t like America executing murderers. Hey, our murderers,
    our choice.

    * I think technically they’re against people being executed in other countries for simply practicing their God given rights, but why make a fuss?

    * Amnesty International is still petitioning God to get a full account of the conditions in hell and what His trial process is.

    * Since Amnesty International was created to focus on freeing political prisoners, apparently murdering children is now a political view.

    * While huge atrocities are committed by other countries all the time, Amnesty International tends to focus on things to complain about in America as it is a much better country to hang out in.

    * Amnesty International has been against Gitmo ever since they visited it once and an officer accidentally spilled bottle water on one of them which, by their account, is the worst possible form of torture.

    * While they called Gitmo a “gulag,” they also said the same thing about Denny’s in their annual Amnesty International Dining Guide.

    * Though they made a fuss about Koran treatment in Gitmo, they constantly play “Koran Ball” in their own offices.

    * If you want to play yourself, all you need are four markers to mark the goals and the words of the prophet Mohammed.

    * Soon they plan to file a big complaint about the U.S. and Iraq imprisoning Saddam simply for his political views of killing everyone who disagrees with him politically.

    * In a fight between Aquaman and Amnesty International, Aquaman’s phony trials without juries in Atlantis would go ignored since they can’t be used to zing America in any way.

    * If you are being attacked by Amnesty International, the best defense is to lock them up without a trial.

    * If you have a good shovel, you can also hit them with a shovel.

    * Once, Amnesty International unsuccessfully petitioned to free the contestants in Big Brother. If they can get more reality shows off the air, more power to them.

#20 – lmao…Look Wayne, if you can’t tell the difference between a crack smoker and a glue huffer…that’s YOUR problem!

  23. MsJoanne says:

    Frank, you’re such a f*cking tool.

Go play outside like a good little boy, will ya.

    Sheeeesh.

  24. Man says:

I love lunchtime because I get to visit the TP circus everyday.

Why stop at HC? Why not just put them into the civilian court system and work it out there? We can grant them bail and release them into our society until the trial (sometime next year), perhaps they could live in a halfway house next to one of you caring liberals.

    .

  25. SGT Higgins says:

#21 – * While they called Gitmo a “gulag,” they also said the same thing about Denny’s in their annual Amnesty International Dining Guide. —-Actually Frank, you’ve made a mistake on this one….they were warning readers to stay away from the ‘goulash’.

  26. Alejandro says:

The right to habeas corpus was never legally revoked. Just because they pass a law, that doesn’t make the law constitutional.

Besides, whether there is a law or not, the military or whomever can simply disobey the constitution and imprison someone indefinitely without trial. Who’s going to stop them?

  27. Juan C says:

So, terrorists suspects are going to be tried now???
How low have we gone? /SARCASM
