Support for war reaches new low.
“A new low of 30 percent of Americans say they support the U.S. war in Iraq and, for the first time, most Americans say they don’t believe it is morally justified,” a new CNN poll finds.
Nearly two-thirds of those polled want withdrawal of U.S. troops to begin — either in part or in total. … Asked whether the U.S. action in Iraq is morally justified, 54 percent said no, versus 42 percent who said yes and 4 percent with no opinion. [...]
Support for President Bush matched his lowest rank ever in a CNN poll, with 32 percent saying they approve the way he is handling his job, and 66 percent saying they disapprove, according to the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll.

I became involved in a heated and bizarre exchange with my next door neighbor last week for about twenty minutes about Bush [she believes that he has told the truth about everything], Iraq [she was unaware that none of the hijackers on 09/11/01 came from Iraq] and the issue of supporting the troops, the topic of which she returned to again and again. I tried to explain to her that I do not support how the troops have brutalized and terrorized the Iraqi people and that the best way to support the troops is by getting them out of that abattoir as quickly as possible. But my declarations fell upon deaf ears.
I am not sure what set her off, unless it was because I was wearing a VIetnam Veterans Against the War button or that she had found out that another neighor’s son was being sent to Iraq. It would appear that superpatriots such as my neighbors are quite willing to sacrifice reason and intellect for the emotional high of their patriotic fervor.

This is very typical Republican arguing effort – Accuse your opponent of what you’re guilty of yourself.
For example, notice how the global warming deniers accuse their opponents of trying to profit off of the whole affair. Of course, what has their side up in arms is the potential erosion of their own profits.
In this case, it’s pretty obvious. If you want more American troops to die, then you would send more of them to war and make sure that the war continues indefinitely. If you want the American troops NOT to die, then you would advocate bringing them home. To avoid this obvious reality, the right can only make up sensationalist claims like this.
Please provide one example to show that we “love the death of American troops”.

To really get at the root of national security, global poverty needs to be addressed. The problem isn’t terrorism, it’s the extreme poverty that people live in that fosters the ideology. Coupled with our foreign policy, no good can come out of it all. If our government really wanted to halt terror, war and genocide, it would spend money on helping lesser-developed nations grow economically. Supporting the Millennium Development Goals to end global poverty would be more beneficial than starting wars all over the Middle East and creating more anti-Western sentiment.

I dearly applaud and appreciate your service, the freedom you’ve provided to me, but I choose to support the troops in this way. I never think about Bush/Cheney in connection with the troops. You must have a sound education on military tactics and the like, so I can’t challenge you on every front.
Support, right now, is the topic. The troops need more strategic flexibility provided to them by this current administration, but I feel the heat is turned on too high by the current democratic/left forces to a point where a good amount of them are a part of the problem. We should not forget the commitment the U.S. made towards the U.N. Millennium Goals (a pact of ending extreme world hunger by the year 2025) in 2000.
