Bush less trusted than Putin by U.S. allies.»

“In one measure of Bush’s unpopularity,” a new Pew poll shows “he is less trusted on foreign policy than Russian President Vladimir Putin by allies Britain, Germany and Canada, even as faith in Putin has plummeted.”

The poll also found that majorities in 26 countries now have a less favorable view of the United States than they did in 2002. Also, “opinions of the American people have declined over the past five years in 23 of 33 countries where trends are available.”

Congress now has a 14 percent approval rating, the lowest in the history of poll taking. You know what that means? George Bush is now the popular guy.

    Well, Flaco, I can explain.

You see, at least Bush *thinks* he has the country’s best interest in mind.

The same cannot be said for Congressional Democrats.

They just want to win the next election, even if they have to throw 1,000 more American members of the Armed Forces into the meat grinder.

He has always been popular. That is why he was elected twice. That type of thing does not happen by accident you know!!!

  14. trueblue Says:

Congress’ approval rating are a reflection of the public’s anger toward the lack of change that they mandated in the last election.

But as one of the posts below explains, it’s not the DEM’S fault. Every baby step in the right direction has been blocked… by Conservatives.

    Yea Einstein?

    Heres a little hint.

Being popular, means people “like you”.

Since MORE people voted for Al Gore in 2000 than George Bush, popular don’t cut it.

And since he is currently, the MOST HATED FIGURE IN THE WORLD, I’d say that also doesn’t support the “popular” notion.

If by popular you mean more people loath him than any single individual in the world, including Osama Bin Laden, then yes, he’s mr popularity.

In fact, it is estimated that he has been burned in effigy more times than any figure in history.

  26. Justice Says:

oh bullsh*t flaco. Their approval rating is low ONLY because people feel they are not moving fast enough putting these criminals in prison. The people want ACTION and the numbers reflect their frustration, not that they aren’t behind them on what they are doing with desperately needed oversight and accountability. The Rethug clowns are the reason so much good legislation is being thwarted and progress is stalled. Just more proof we have to not only take the Presidency but we have to oust all these other neocon idiots in both the House and the Senate. One by one they are getting caught at their crimes, FINALLY.
As soon as they act and IMPEACH/INDICT their numbers will go soaring up because people want them to hold everyone on the Hill accountable regardless of party. The only thing stopping legislation for transparency is, as usual, the obstructionist Rethugs. It is sickening how they block ethics and accountability bills. What lowlifes.

  27. trueblue Says:

    Bush was never **legally** elected.

  28. Ben B Says:

Again, I have to go over this. The reason why Bush may have higher approval numbers is that he has a core (albeit a small one) that likes his policies. Congress has a less favorable approval rating because the Bush core doesn’t like them because they aren’t as big of a push-over for Bush as the last congress, but the moderate and liberal people don’t like Congress for failing to end the war.

Again, show me a poll where the question is something along the lines of “Do you more approve of Congress or Bush?” If the results of such a poll show that Bush is more approved of than Congress, then you can make the claim about him being more favored. Until then, stfu with the comparison - it is an invalid conclusion to draw.

Furthermore, I’d highly suspect that the majority of the public is more favorable of Congress when confronted with a question like this…

You’re right. Stealing two elections does’t happen by accident. It takes hard work and a bunch of ‘patriots’ who would subvert the rule of law to put their guy in the WH. Elections get stolen when candidates can’t win the count on their own merits. Elections get stolen when the right wants them stolen. BTW, if you use your ATM card, do you get a receipt? Of course you do. Why won’t the rupubs let voters have a paper receipt or prrof of their choices? Hmmm. maybe the repubs don’t like ELECTIONS AT ALL. I am still not convinced W won’t suspend the 2008 presidential election. Repubs are dirty fighters who simply want to win - no matter what it takes (cheating usually). Well, its actually more than that, but yes, I insulted a lot of people.

People who deserve to be insulted.

Now, let me explain something to you. Its a new word.

    Its called “METAPHOR”. (Pronounced “met-a-for”).

A metaphor is a phrase or a sentence that describes one or more seemingly unrelated topics.

Trailerpark in this instance, is a metaphor that identifies supporters of Bush, as “lowbrow”, or “dirt stupid”.

While someone living in a trailerpark doesn’t necessarily necessitate those traits, the general population understands the term does.

You know, sometimes I wonder why Think Progress doesn’t do what Redstate does. If we ran it like they do over there, the trolls would have been banned within one post.

Then I remember — one of the hallmarks of people from Nixon to Bush is to squelch any dissent. The same SoP is in place today as it was back in the days of the Vietnam war. Speak up against the Powers that Be ™, and they shut you up.

While I’d still love to have the trolls go (back) to Free Republic and Redstate, I don’t want to be associated with Redstate’s tactics, and I don’t think Think Progress does either. I guess that means we have to put up with them.

At least, I can read gems like posts 104 through 108 (excluding 106) and save them for posterity. And at the same time, I can look at Redstate and see…0 comments. 0 comments. 5 comments. 17 comments. 0 comments. 0 comments. 3 comments. At least Think Progress (and AmericaBlog) do not look like that…

  112. katie Says:

“He has always been popular. That is why he was elected twice. That type of thing does not happen by accident you know!!!”

No, it happens by cheating. You know, flipping voting machines and caging minority voters to disenfranchise them. It’s too bad that the Republics can’t win an election fair and square. They have to cheat to do it. That should tell them something about what people think of them.

  116. Jeremy Says:

Kill-Filing would be good. For those of you who don’t know about kill-filing, here is how it works.

You see, say, PRIMVS INTER PARES, posting something you disagree with. You add his name to your kill-file, and you never see another post by him ever again. A well designed kill filter will also filter out responses that include him (or are directed to him). This does nothing to stop his ability to post, though. However, he could post a thousand comments, and you’d never see them. Eventually, he’d find himself talking to just the other trolls (and the newbies who get on and mistake him for a regular debator), if enough of the regulars did so.

There are short comings to the system (troll changes names, somebody reforms and can’t get heard because of his bad past behavior), but adding in a registration system would go a long way to fixing the problems.

An alternative would be to put the name of the poster _first_ so you can just skip over it when you read a troll’s name.

While Liberals have forced the USA to decommission nuclear warheads and other nuclear weapons, Russia and China have been developing defenses against our missiles and new weapons that would be able to penetrate any defense we think can come up with.

Sad that Liberals have pushed for all these Missile nuclear agreements, Russia signed them and they have completely backed off on them.

what is that Putin said about a month ago…..paraphrasing now, “while the USA may have a missile defense shield, since the 1990s we have been experimenting and creating weapons that would render these missile defense shield ineffective.”

    Nobody but US wants war.

But don’t kid yourselves. They are more than ready. While Americans are entertained by the dazzling lights and beautiful celebrities, and the grisly day by day slaughter in Iraq, China and Russia have been forming the world next military superpower. A combined military force like the worlds never seen.

And since WW2, Russia and China have always wanted to fight the US on there terms, which is why they took us on in Viet Nam. Well, Iraq presents a similar opportunity for them, only this time, the odds are overwhelmingly in their favor. Iran presents a frontal assault vehicle a quarter of a million strong, while combined resistance fighters inside of Iraq pepper our forces and keep them occupied in small skirmishes and engagments, while the frontal assault of the Iranian’s (who know and have fought the terrain before) moves into the theatre and engages our forces with an assault force of a quarter of a million well equipped, well trained troops, bolstered by another quarter of a million Russian\Chinese support troops.

Using strategies they learned from us in 1991, the battle would be quick and decisive, and not in our favor I’m afraid.

I’m a long time Nader supporter chief. I only voted democrat last time to beat der Fuhrer.

Better get to know a person before you label them skippy.

NADER???!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! no wonder you are such a retard. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Nader, now that is a joke.

Here is Nader who is pro-choice, right? why? because a woman can do with her body whatever she wants. yet this hypocrite pushed for and got seat belt laws, right?

but wait, I thought pro-choicers claimed that we can do with our bodies whatever we want, so why is an ultra-left wing wacko, who is pro-abortion, like Nader pushing for laws that don’t allow us to do whatever we want with our bodies?

Ralph Nader, what a poor imbecile and I feel pity for all those idiots that fell for his propaganda and voted for him.

Poor naive and gullible Libtards. Al we can do is cry for them.

Joke, you have to dumb things down for shane. This individual doesn’t get how things work in Congress.

just take it easy on her, dumb things down, hold him by the hand and she might get it 60 years after it was explained to her 300 million times.

    Conservatron,
What’s sad is that Traitors like Bettlejuice Shane want Russia and China to defeat America.
They must love Fascism since those 2 countries are Fascist.
What a bunch of treacherous morons!

Joker, don’t you know. Libtards must lie in oder to try to win the debate. Lie and lie as much as they can. It is the only weapon they have.

yes, sadly enough, many Libtards root for our military to lose and our nation to fall. It is pathetic.

let us not forget that through out the 20th century, the left wing in America adored and admired the Soviet Union.

Let us not forget that a New York times reporter won a Pulitzer Price for his fake reporting on Stalin and his prasing and kissing ass of Stalin.

let us not forget that many of today’s left wing heroes allied themselves with the Viet-Cong.

Let us not forget that these are the same left wingers that speak out of both sides of their mouth. On one side they proclaim to support our troops, while the other side of their mouth claims that our troops are torturers, murderers who have killed over 600,000 Iraqis, killers of innocent men, women and children….but let us not forget, these left wing retards support our troops, right?

the sad part is that they think they are fooling America. idiots.

    The Joker and Conservatron,

You will see that most of the threads here have a pro-Muslim, Leftist-Defeatist bias.

    It is sickening.

  163. WaltTheMan Says:

There is one metric that is being ignored in the argument of the merits of Congres vis a vis the merits of GW. There are two partys in Congress and but one in the exective branch. In the case of the Senate, the Dems and the Repugs are tied with a Bush loyalist Independent (Liebermann) in the wings. If you take a true count, the Dems have 49 seats and the Repugs 50 with a spoiler in the persona of Darth Cheney.

  164. OxyCon Says:

    Now that is sad.

    Comment by The Jerker — June 27, 2007 @ 7:03 pm

    Wrong.

There is absolutely no intelligence to support that wishful thinking.

China and Russia have invested hundreds of billions of dollars into merging their military capabilities and joint training venues.

    Comment by The Jaker — June 27, 2007 @ 7:03 pm

    A. Thanks to their new strategic alliance, they now have combined almost 3 times as many nukes as we have. Russia alone has more than twice as many.

    B. Like the other mental midgets you associate with, you fail to discern that I have never indicated they would attack our soil and force nuclear confrontation. An attack on our forces in the middle east would not lead to a nuclear confrontation (bush would be sedated before they let him launch over an isolated conventional war) nor would it mean an end to America. It would mean an end to American military superiority however.

  168. BARTLEBEE Says:

Unlike Viet Nam, Russia and China can have us at a huge disadvantage in Iraq. Our over strained already outnumbered forces, many on their 4th tours, are in no way ready to deal with close to a million trained well equipped crack ground troops back by air, armor and artillery support.
