“Iraqis used to love fried river fish, but are afraid to eat anything caught in the Tigris nowadays, since there are so many dead bodies floating in the river.” They were dumped there “during the sectarian blood-letting that has divided the capital.”
When is enough going to be enough?? Since 1991, the US government has been killing and killing and killing. Nearly 2 million are dead and generals are telling us the occupation is going to drag on for a decade or more.
Aggressive war was once punished as a war crime back at Nuremburg….and this aggressive war also holds serious moral and legal implications for all those involved…

June 27th, 2007 at 10:34 amActually, there is a certain perfect symmetry about all this.
The Iraqis don’t want to eat the fish because of the dead, bloated bodies floating in the river.
On the other hand, they have no electricity so they couldn’t even fry them if they wanted to.

June 27th, 2007 at 10:35 amLet us never forget that we are the ones who opened Pandora’s Box and unleashed the sectarian violence in Iraq. Saddam Hussein kept an iron grip on Iraq and consequently kept the level of Sunni/Shia violence to a minimium. Of course, the Sunnis and Shia have been slaughtering one another for over 1000 years, so their fight is nothing new, but the incompetent and inept decisions made by the Bush Administration and the Coalition Provisional Authority contributed to the chaos. As Colin Powell said, we broke it so we own it and have responsibility for it.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:36 amMy god. News like this should answer the complaints of no “good” news about Iraq on the 6 o’clock news: there is no good news that can outshine the absolute, ever present horror of death, violence and fear.

June 27th, 2007 at 10:46 amYep the Iraqis can thank Bush for the contaminated river water.

Those who complain about the lack of “good news” being reported never mention any “good news” that’s being ignored. Either Faux News reporters are too scared to leave the hotel or there isn’t any good news to report.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:47 amI suppose Bush will suggest importing piranna fish to eat the bodies.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:49 amWhat’s a little blood in the water? Halliburton can bottle the stuff and market it to Iraqis as “iron-enriched Allah water.”

Sounds like another job for SuperDarth and his Halliburton Team to the rescue!
I bet they will clean that nasty ol’ river up for no more than $3.7B. (Plus another $500M for the BlackWater Mercenary Security Force support).
Another prime example of your (borrowed from the Chinese) dollars at work . Man, is this a great GOP-run country or what!!!!!
June 27th, 2007 at 11:02 amA culture Eons old, one that has weathered attacks by Genghis Khan, Hannibal and many other invaders now finds it’s citizens bodies floating in the Tigris again.
Nothing under the Sun is new, but we’re the invaders now. The Empire is outgrowing it’s supply capabilities. It’s foot soldiers don’t even have a front-line to protect.
Sure, we’ll use Iraq for troop staging when we invade Iran, but where does this madness stop? Why did America need to become an Empire?
PNAC? Christianity? Corporate greed?
June 27th, 2007 at 11:02 amAll of the above?
Upside > yep Halliburton would get the contract to bring in the piranna fish to eat the bodies in the Tigris River. The water is very warm so the fish would multiple quickly and then nobody would ever be able to swim in the river again.

After all, why should they have anything better than we do?

Its piranhas or pirañas, both are correct. Since the tilde ‘ñ’ is not available on an American English keyboard, ‘nh’ is the substituted where it occurs.

I hear Hitler kept the trains running on time. Ok so he created a regime that kept the Jews and the anti-semites from killing each other by systematically targeting the Jews…but he kept the trains running on time!

Perhaps Halliburton really could tackle the job if they pulled assets from Kosovo. Of course they would have to renege on the original no-bid contract they received after President Clinton(D) bombed everything in sight, but hey work is work.
We need to stop the illegal occupation of the Balkans and get our forces out!

WOO HOO!! This is so rich! The trolls are trying to find a Clinton reason here. Do some research before you respond! Halliburton’s governmenbt work is up 600% since Clinton left the WH. This is all your butthole buddies, Darth and Dubya at work here.
And how much did we spend on Kosovo and how many American lives were lost?

Ahhh, Tony, not sure how to tell you this, but the press would prefer your little understudy, Dana (Katie Couric Jr.) Perino to your pasty face. Nothing personal, just move on and let her get to work, the NeoCon Sh!t flavored Kool-aid goes down much better with her smiling mug in front of them.

June 27th, 2007 at 2:12 pmAll brought to you by your smiling, republican, christian-right culture of death. Here’s a thought: whatever phony, media-driven ideas about personality that are cooked up for us before the 2008 election should be ignored. They’ll find ways to convince us again that whatever Democrat who’s running is a creep and the Repub candidate is a “good guy.” Let’s ignore all that for a change and make sure Democrats have supermajorities in both chambers and a President in the Whitehouse. Just give that a shot. If you think there’s no difference between the parties, I think you’ll be surprised.
June 27th, 2007 at 2:13 pmSo you let someone throw out a number and believe it? No questions asked? You believe the carp eat the bodies? Ask a local fisherman here and he’ll tell you it’s a myth. Bottom feeding fish don’t all of a sudden develop a taste for flesh.
