Three new investigations shed further light on how the Bush administration betrayed Gulf Coast residents during Hurricane Katrina, and how New Orleans and other affected areas are still suffering from federal waste and incompetence.
Some key highlights of the reports:
EPA allowed toxic chemicals to harm poor Katrina victims: A GAO report revealed that EPA publicly downplayed the risk of asbestos inhalation, which is often released during home demolition, to city residents and failed to deploy air monitors in predominantly African-American neighborhoods. Furthermore, EPA waited nearly eight months to inform residents that short-term visits could expose them to dangerous levels of asbestos and mold.
FEMA ignored its own hurricane plan: Prior to Katrina, FEMA created a “Southeast Louisiana Hurricane Backup Plan” which forecasted specific consequences and action-plans in the event of a hurricane. But “post-Katrina FEMA documents demonstrate that that the plan was never implemented.” The day before Katrina hit, FEMA Deputy Director Patrick Rhode sent an e-mail to Michael Brown’s assistant with the subject line, “copy of New Orleans cat plan,” stating, “I never got one — I think Brown got my copy — did you get one?”
FEMA guaranteed billions in profits for big companies: Following Katrina, federal agencies “doled out more than $2.4 billion in cost-plus contracts,” which “offer companies no incentive to save money or keep costs from ballooning.” FEMA was responsible for nearly 94 percent of all of the hurricane-related cost-plus contracts, with the remainder being issued primarily by the EPA and U.S. Air Force.
Fortunately, Congress has taken action to address some of these issues. In March, the House voted to limit the use of cost-plus contracts. That bill is currently stalled in the Senate, where it awaits action by Homeland Security Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-CT).

June 27th, 2007 at 7:47 pmChertoff has to be the biggest idiot out there. His line of “We never expected something like this” was classic. Ya’d think that the Dept of Homeland Security would plan for WORST CASE SCENARIOS.

Ringo, how exactly is state and local government responsible for FEMA ignoring its own hurricane plan? Or doling out billions in cost-plus contracts, money that’s essentially been wasted on recovery efforts? Or putting poor homeowners at risk for toxic contamination?
Do try to stay on topic.
June 27th, 2007 at 7:50 pmyou have got to be joking Ringo.
The entire operation from the top down failed due to gross incompetence on behalf of this administration. PERIOD.
The failures on the state and local levels were driven by the utter ineptitude of the stupid agency heads Bush appointed.
They are all thieving morons.
Their treatment of and behavior towards the people of NO is disgusting and they and their pals made big bucks off of those poor people.
all rethugs/neocons and their supporters are what is destroying this country. The majority of Americans are so glad to finally see some proper oversight happening, now to go in for the kill.

June 27th, 2007 at 7:54 pmLieberman is literally acting as an agent of Israel in this matter - blocking any effort to call Chertoff to account.
Michael Chertoff is in fact a citizen of Israel, and is NOT acting in the best interest of America. Chertoff (miraculously) had the Patriot Act written BEFORE 9/11. Do the math. Got foreknowledge?
Bush has never accepted responsibility for ANYTHING - except for Katrina. Remember how Bush stepped out in front of Chertoff and accepted the blame for Chertoff’s complete failure of management in the Katrina debacle? Why is Bush protecting Chertoff?
When Lieberman lost to Lamont in the Democratic Primary, it was REPUBLICAN OPERATIVE Mel Sembler of Florida (and Israel) who rushed to his aid to raise funds for Lieberman’s Independent run - in Palm Beach. This is the same Mel Sembler that was the Ambassador to Italy when Ledeen flew to Rome to plant the Niger Yellowcake forgery. Rove and Bush personally asked Sembler to raise funds for the Lieberman campaign - and now they’ve placed him in position to protect themselves by protecting Chertoff.
Do you get it?
This is one big protection racket, and they’re ALL in on it. A larger conspiracy would be hard to imagine.

That’s some exceptional guy, as the article shows. It reveals something quite out of the ordinary about Michael Chertoff.
Not a word from anyone in power about Chertoff’s successful defense of a known bin Laden financier. Even though the Bergen Record newspaper had published the facts of the case in a series of articles. This news was never picked up nationally — somehow not being newsworthy enough to rate a few lines in the major press — and they call this “freedom” and “democracy,” ad nauseum.

Well, I guess that is where it will stay because LIEberman isn’t going to do anything to stop the Republics. I really do wish that the Democrats would just throw him off of this committee and kick him to the curb. He is no longer a Democrat and the only reason why he hasn’t formally switched sides is because if he does, he will be the “new kid on the block” with the Republics and he will lose his power. And it’s all about power for Joe.
June 27th, 2007 at 8:01 pmRe: #11,
Now the post has reappeared again (at least on my screen). Some will say that my comment is off topic, but nothing could be further from the truth.
This is a diary about incompetence. TP is illustrating at best editorial incompetence and at worst organized deception in promoting a messaging agenda that is purely structured to attack one political party and spread as much gossip and innuendo as possible.
This is being done to further expand the “partisan” divide that is benefiting corporate America in manipulating the political process as well as further the agenda of the “politicians” that this site supports and is clandestinely endorsing.
That may be “progress” in your eyes, but only if your goal is to destroy America.
Progressive indeed.

And your proof of this is? Oh, I know, it’s something you read at redstate.org so it must be true.
I wasn’t aware that it was the local and state government who awarded those no bid contracts. Thanks so much for enlightening us.
My favorite Katrina contract was the one that FEMA placed for temporary buildings. There was a company in Louisiana who made them and gave FEMA a fair bid. Well, FEMA gave the contract to a company in Alaska, coincidentally that was formed right before receiving the contract, owned by a FOB (friend of Bush). And guess what, this new company contracted with the company in Louisiana to make and deliver the buildings for $100,000 each more than the company in Louisiana bid for. Now, Mr. Conservative idiot, does that sound right to you?
June 27th, 2007 at 8:04 pm“TP is illustrating at best editorial incompetence and at worst organized deception in promoting a messaging agenda that is purely structured to attack one political party and spread as much gossip and innuendo as possible.”
Gee, have you been to redstate.org or any of the other conservative blog sites out there? Is that how you would like us to fashion TP? TP is a place where Progressives can get their news (even if it is filtered through a progressive lens) just like you Rethugs get your news from Faux Noise and right wing websites that just outright lie about what is going on in the world. At least you have the privilege of being able to post here. If I go to redstate.org and post one post they don’t like, poof, I’m gone. Maybe TP should do that with you trolls. I would love to poof you all.

Yes, I have been to the “other sides” sites that do the EXACT SAME THING.
Guess that makes it okay in your eyes. Ever hear of the “high road”? You won’t here.
P.S. The only respect that I have for TP is that it is more accepting of critical and opposing views and yes, I too have been banned from RedState. But I see this site headed down the same path.

9/11, the Franklin/AIPAC spy case and Abramoff’s wrong doing all involved CONSPIRACY.
Shall we really go along with the government’s wish that the word be equated with “nut job” or “Tin Foil Hat?”
Discussion of conspiracies (among Fitzgerald’s investigators) is what led to the conviction of Scooter Libby.
Coincidentally, it was Mel Sembler who headed up Libby’s legal defense fund.
Are you a Coincidence Theorist?
June 27th, 2007 at 8:26 pm#30,
Truth has NO bias. You present a false premise as fact so as to support your own argument.
I am not attacking you, just pointing out the flaw because you asked what the “high road” is. In essence, the high road would be to focus on truthful and factual reporting without skew or bias.
As an example, TP jumps all over and gossips about any innuendo of political corruption, as long as it,s a republican or political enemy.
What’s the word on the ice-man Jefferson? Won’t find out here.
But if Tom Delay sneezes? We’ll see three diaries on it.
The high road is also dealing exhaustively with tough issues until they are resolved.
TP (or its readership) is theoretically rabidly anti-Iraq war. Would you say the coverage of that atrocity which continues to this day is “exhaustive” or “unrelenting”?

Well Fed the Fcuk Up, all that shows is that you haven’t been hanging around here for very long because TP did cover Jefferson and the remarks about him were not at all complimentary. Most people here feel that he is a crook and he should get what’s coming to him.
TP (or its readership) is theoretically rabidly anti-Iraq war. Would you say the coverage of that atrocity which continues to this day is “exhaustive†or “unrelenting
Yes, I would. It is as exhaustive and/or unrelenting as can be with all that we know. It could be much more if the TP had lots of money to hire people to investigate a subject like the WAPO has.
So, I still don’t get what your point is. TP tells us what we don’t hear elsewhere. Occasionally they do lapse into the silly like reporting on Paris Hilton, but considering the good job they do other than Paris, I am willing to forgive them that transgression.
The only think I can think of that would make TP a better site is if the people who post here would just ignore the trolls. Unfortunately there are some posters who I believe come here simply to play with the trolls. That ends up in making some threads unreadable.
If you ignore the trolls, they will get bored and to away. Please don’t feed the trolls.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:17 pmthese trolls crack me up. They just can’t handle the sheer VOLUME of criminal activity by their ridiculous elected morons so they try to say that TP is somehow twisting the stories. TP reports FACTS, if you bothered to check their links.

You can check the facts for yourself, or watch the Judiciary hearings. Im sure none of you neocons bother to WATCH the hearings where your idiot rethug officials are seen for the true idiot criminals they are.
Keep your head in the sand, we don’t care. The vast majority of Americans have caught on to your crimes from Iraq to New Orleans to NYC you are being exposed for the incompetent thieves that you are. June 27th, 2007 at 10:42 pmIt is absolutely ridiculously on how little the American government has helped its own people out of poverty and disaster. Instead, the government continues to create poverty and violence abroad in Iraq. Thousands of refugees and poverty areas are created by both the governmental neglect of post-Katrina and the Iraq war. As on the nations pledge to eliminate world poverty and hunger in the Millennium Project, the government is doing very little to uphold that promise. According to the Borgen Project, whose goal is to fight global poverty, the US government has spent $340 billion dollars on the war. However, it only takes $19 billion dollars annually to end world poverty. This government needs a new direction and a new leader. And we have to start making poverty a leading political issue in the White House.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:46 pmRather than helping them out of poverty, they are pushing us toward it. The only thing getting built anymore is prisons. There is a place in Orlando that makes concrete cubes that are stackable so that you can get as many as you can afford, two cells to a cube, and they truck ‘em right out to you.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:51 pmDon’t look at the stricter mandatory sentances of victomless crimes, no, buy some cubes and stick lock them away like mice in a box.
Wonder why unemployment is down? With 200k in iraq and 3 million in prison?

This is long time realistic and altruistic reasoning. There is no immediate money in it. Case Dismissed! The defense contractors must be fed. Ending poverty does not do that.

Of all the negative charges blamed on the Democratic Congress since Nov.’06, This is the worst. Allowing LIEberman to retain his power. For so many things, the legitimate reason is that we don’t have the votes. There is no excuse for this!
Anybody know why he has not been booted to the side of the road?
June 28th, 2007 at 1:25 amWe need to become organized, work Sen. Reid’s office, and have Lieberman (for Lieberman) removed from the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
I become so frustrated by people demanding impeachment without investigations…and we know that we are not going to have full and complete (or any) investigations from this committee.
Compare what Lieberman’s committee has produced versus his House counterpart’s - Rep. Henry Waxman. How much have we learned in these past 5 months from Waxman’s committee alone?
June 28th, 2007 at 3:08 amAs for the Asbestos issue:
Rudy:
Remember when you addressed the surviving 9/11 widows and orphans of the Fire and Police Departments prior to their 2-day cruise a couple months after 9/11?
I do.
How did you do that? To see women wearing their husbands dress blues, and their children wearing daddy’s fire hat was truly gut-wrenching. But not for you.
You breezed aboard, accepted their accolades, pretended to feel their pain, and went on about your life, as they sought solace and understanding among those who’d suffered the same fate.
You had foreknowledge of 9/11. You had forewarning that the towers were going to collapse. You are directly responsible for their deaths. AND, you profited from it. All those millions made as a direct result of killing all those souls.
You knew that the WTC was an asbestos-filled dinosaur, and you knew that the Port Authority was on the hook for $15 billion in demo costs - along with Haliburton, who had acquired not only Dresser, but their Asbestos liability claims as well. You know that Cheney ran the NORAD Stand Down from the bunker, as Mineta testified. You know that the planes were guided by Dov Zakheim’s Sysplan technology.
You know that Warren Buffet handled the insurance claim end of the deal, and that the Government reimbursed the insurer for the money paid to Silverstein out of the $2.3 billion stolen from the DOD by Zakheim in the weeks prior to 9/11.
You know that the reason got the no-bid contracts in Iraq was to allow their stock price to recover in the aftermath of Cheney’s acquisition of Dresser - which had caused the stock of HAL to collapse under the weight of asbestos claims. You know that’s why Bush called for Asbestos Liability Reform in his 2005 SOTU speech. You knew that the EPA was lying through its teeth about the levels of asbestos in the air throughout the lower downtown area.
You know everything, Rudy.
And we know too.
BTW, how’s Starr doing?
June 28th, 2007 at 4:08 amcorrection:
The amount stolen by Dov Zakheim was $2.3 TRILLION - according to Rumsfeld. Other estimates range as high as $7 TRILLION, enough to fund an entire coup, bribe every Senator, purchase an election and fund a couple wars.
June 28th, 2007 at 4:14 amThe CONSPIRACY to render Congress impotent began with the plan to steal all of the money required to fund the implementation of the PNAC plan for years to come. In parallel, new draconian laws needed to be enacted to render even the Constitution impotent and “quaint,” along with the Geneva Conventions. Justices would need to be installed who could be relied upon to rewrite law, or at least, gum up the works for a long enough period of time to put in place the new civilian storm trooper force (Blackwater), destroy the National Guard, build the Concentration Camps (Google: “Swift Luck Greens”), and implement Martial Law.
The Anthrax attacks against Daschle and the mainstream media figures were purposely designed as a shot across the bow…”get in our way, we’ll kill you!” It was Rumsfeld’s anthrax.
The war in Iraq is specifically designed to result in quagmire and occupation. The operation is completely “ON PLAN.”
THEY are at war against US (the people). The people have NO REPRESENTATION in Congress…NONE. They are all compromised on the one hand - and impotent on the other. The “Power Of The Purse” no longer exists for Congress. The only way to change this fact is to reveal who stole the money (Dov Zakheim), where it went (Israel) - and bring them to justice - at the Hague.

June 28th, 2007 at 5:18 amAIPAC SPY SCANDAL:
CONSPIRACY TO COMMUNICATE CLASSIFIED INFORMATION TO AGENT OF FOREIGN GOVERNMENT
1. Defendant LAWRENCE ANTHONY FRANKLIN was employed by the United States government at the Department of Defense (DoD) in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), International Security Affairs (ISA), Office of Near East and South Asia, Office of Northern Gulf Affairs, Iran desk, and held a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). FRANKLIN’S office was located within the Pentagon, in the Eastern District of Virginia. FRANKLIN was also a Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve (USAFR).
2. Throughout his employment with the United States government, FRANKLIN repeatedly signed written agreements acknowledging his duty to safeguard classified information
3. At no time was FRANKLIN authorized to release classified information to ROSEN and WEISMANN except with respect to Overt Acts 43 and 44 in count one.
4. Defendant STEVEN J. ROSEN was employed as the Director of Foreign Policy Issues for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington, D.C. ROSEN was hired by AIPAC in or about July 1982. AIPAC, according to its website, is ” America’s ProIsrael Lobby.” AIPAC lobbies the U.S. Congress and Executive Branch agencies on various issues related to Israel and U.S. Foreign policy in the Middle East. As the Director of Foreign Policy Issues, ROSEN lobbied on behalf of AIPAC, primarily with officials within the Executive Branch of the U.S. government. During the time period of this indictment, ROSEN did not have a U.S. government security clearance and was not authorized to receive or possess U.S. government classified information.

June 28th, 2007 at 5:18 amWAYS, MANNER AND MEANS OF THE CONSPIRACY
A. It was part of the conspiracy that, in an effort to influence persons within and outside the United States government, ROSEN and WEISSMAN would cultivate relationships with FRANKLIN and others and would use their contacts within the U.S. government and elsewhere to gather sensitive U.S. government information, including classified information relating to the national defense, for subsequent unlawful communication, delivery and transmission to persons not entitled to receive it.
B. It was further part of the conspiracy that FRANKLIN would use his position as a desk officer in the Office of the Secretary of Defense to gather information relating to the national defense, for subsequent unlawful communication, delivery and transmission to ROSEN and WEISSMAN and others not entitled to receive it.
C. It was further part of the conspiracy that FRANKLIN, ROSEN and WEISSMAN would meet at locations in the Eastern District of Virginia and elsewhere, to exchange information, including classified information relating to the national defense.
D. It was further part of the conspiracy that FRANKLIN would unlawfully deliver, communicate and transmit classified national defense information in an effort to advance his own personal foreign policy agenda and influence persons within and outside the United States government.
E. It was further part of the conspiracy that ROSEN and WEISSMAN, without lawful authority, would communicate to persons not entitled to receive it, classified information relating to the national defense.
On or about June 11, 1999, WEISSMAN had a conversation with FO-1 and told FO-1 that a “Secret FBI, classified FBI report” on the Khobar Towers bombing had been prepared and that he (WEISSMAN) had gotten this information from three different sources, including United States government officials.
On or about March 13, 2003 , WEISSMAN had a separate conversation with FO-1. WEISSMAN asked FO-1, “Have you talked to Steve about Iran lately?” WEISSMAN related that “we” had heard from a “friend of ours in the Pentagon” about a national intelligence document. WEISSMAN discussed specifics about the classified draft internal policy document and the internal deliberations of United States government officials.
On or about March 18, 2003 , in a conversation with a member of the media about the classified draft internal policy document, ROSEN stated, “I’m not supposed to know this,” and that it was a “considerable story.” He encouraged the member of the media to pursue the story.

June 28th, 2007 at 5:25 amIn a political sense, conspiracy refers to a group of persons united in the goal of usurping or overthrowing an established political power. Typically, the final goal is to gain power through a revolutionary coup d’état or through assassination.
A conspiracy is to be contrasted with a cabal. The two are similar but have quite different connotations; in contrast to a cabal, a conspiracy usually looks to overthrow a fixed power instead of usurping it from within.
http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Conspiracy_%28political%29
Conspiracy in the United States
Conspiracy has been defined in the US as an agreement of two or more people to commit a crime, or to accomplish a legal end through illegal actions. For example, planning to rob a bank (an illegal act) in order to raise money for charity (a legal end) remains a criminal conspiracy because the parties agreed to use illegal means to accomplish the end goal. A conspiracy does not need to have been planned in secret in order to meet the definition of the crime.
Conspiracy law usually does not require proof of the specific intent by the defendants to injure any specific person in order to establish an illegal agreement. Instead, usually the law only requires the conspirators have the agreed to engage in a certain illegal act. This is sometimes described as a “general intent” to violate the law.

June 28th, 2007 at 5:37 amIn law, treason is the crime of disloyalty to one’s nation. A person who betrays the nation of their citizenship and/or reneges on an oath of loyalty and in some way willfully cooperates with an enemy, is considered to be a traitor. Oran’s Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as: “…[a]…citizen’s actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation].” In many nations, it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavour.
Traitor may also mean a person who betrays (or is accused of betraying) their own political party, nation, family, friends, ethnic group, religion, social class, or other group to which they may belong.
Murder is now generally considered the worst of crimes, but in the past, treason was thought of as worse. In English law high treason was punishable by being hanged, drawn and quartered (men) or burnt at the stake (women), the only crime which attracted those penalties.
Congress has, at times, passed statutes creating treason-like offense with different names (such as sedition in the 1798 Alien and Sedition Acts, or espionage and sabotage in the 1917 Espionage Act) that do not require the testimony of two witnesses and have a much broader definition than Article Three treason. For example, some well-known spies have been convicted of espionage rather than treason.

June 28th, 2007 at 6:03 amConspiracy to Defraud the United States
923 18 U.S.C. § 371
Hass, 216 U.S. at 479-480. In Hammerschmidt, Chief Justice Taft, defined “defraud†as follows:
To conspire to defraud the United States means primarily to cheat the Government out of property or money, but it also means to interfere with or obstruct one of its lawful governmental functions by deceit, craft or trickery, or at least by means that are dishonest. It is not necessary that the Government shall be subjected to property or pecuniary loss by the fraud, but only that its legitimate official action and purpose shall be defeated by misrepresentation, chicane or the overreaching of those charged with carrying out the governmental intention.

See: “Dick Cheney”
June 28th, 2007 at 6:29 amGiven what we know about VP Cheney’s direct financial ties to Haliburton, isn’t it clear that he has committed a fraud against the United States for the purpose of illegal financial gain, in accordance with the following statute? Couldn’t the same be said of any US official who knowingly made false statements to advance the cause of war, while owning shares of companies that stood to gain substantially from that war? Cheney was acting specifically on behalf of the Contractor, Haliburton, to ensure no-bid contracts were awarded, based on knowingly fraudulent information generated by his own Office Of Special Plans. It might also be construed that any official who had a relationship to the Carlyle Group was also lying on their behalf - for their own financial benefit.
Section 1031. Major fraud against the United States
(a) Whoever knowingly executes, or attempts to execute, any scheme or artifice with the intent -
(1) to defraud the United States; or
(2) to obtain money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises, in any procurement of property or services as a prime contractor with the United States or as a subcontractor or supplier on a contract in which there is a prime contract with the United States, if the value of the contract, subcontract, or any constituent part thereof, for such property or services is $1,000,000 or more shall, subject to the applicability of subsection (c) of this section, be fined not more than $1,000,000, or imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.
(1) the gross loss to the Government or the gross gain to a defendant is $500,000 or greater; or
(2) the offense involves a conscious or reckless risk of serious personal injury.
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/ casecode/ uscodes/ 18/ parts/ i/ chapters/ 47/ sections/ section_1031.html
The financial links between those who lied, and those who benefitted as a direct result of the lies (primarily in the oil and military industries) are clear. The evidence that the President’s speech knowingly included a lie about the Niger Yellow Cake is proveable in a court of law under oath.
That the Vice President knew for a fact that the claim was based on a forgery in advance of the President’s speech is a given. That he instructed others to ensure that the sentence made it into the speech is also a given. What did the Vice President know, and when did he know it?
Everytime the Vice President knowingly lied to the American People to advance the cause of war, he committed a crime against the United States which both directly harmed other US citizens and directly enriched himself.
Indict Dick Cheney for Fraud.

Karl Rove INVENTED the White House Iraq Group (WHIG) for one purpose. TOTAL MESSAGE CONTROL.
Rove is a genius…an evil genius.
He can only be effective when he knows literally everything. He is the REALITY CREATION ARCHITECT.
At any given time he can take a set of actual facts and use each of them to stitch together a totally false reality.
Rove knew that the truth was the enemy of their conspiracy to conquer the Middle East (the PNAC plan). His job, every single day, is to convince you, me and the rest of the world that you didn’t just see and hear what you just saw and heard…or if you did, it doesn’t mean what your logical mind is attempting to tell you - because “we’re in a post-9/11 world now” and black is white.
Karl Rove is the single most destructive force in the US Government…the enabler of the entire evil scheme…THE ARCHITECT.
The scheme includes 9/11 as the essential pretext. “9/11″ … how clever, Karl! Only someone with American sensibilities would select the number we have all memorized to call in the event of life threatening emergency as the date for this evil….
KARL ROVE.
The war plan to invade Iraq was written BEFORE 9/11. The Secret Energy Task Force meetings that Cheney had with Ken Lay and the other OIL HOGS during which they all decided how to divide up the oil fields of the Middle East…all of that was BEFORE 9/11.
Now you see why Cheney insisted the substance of those talks remain SECRET.
All of their schemes and conspiracies REQUIRED 9/11 as the essential trigger.
Cheney outsourced the implementation of the FALSE FLAG OPERATION to Mossad…the FALSE FLAG experts. This explains why over 200 Mossad agents were operating in the United States prior to 9/11. This explains why five of them were arrested, having been observed filming the planes hitting the towers and their subsequent collapse - celebrating our worst nightmare.
9/11 was not a bad day for those involved in the Conspiracy. It was their shining moment…their PRETEXT.

Great reason BTW to never allow them to take away are great Health Care system. I can’t imagine the day we have no Mayo Clinic and all R&D stops because there is no money to be made. Furthermore, how horrid will it be for your mother to wait 6 months to a year to get her breast cancer removed just like in Canada?
June 28th, 2007 at 9:36 amThank you Ralph Nader and supporters.
We all know that Al Gore would have showered his favorite corporations with federal money while turning a blind eye to dying people. (notice sarcasm)
June 28th, 2007 at 10:06 am#96 and all R&D stops because there is no money to be made. comment by Roger Roger
That is bullsh!t! I spend a lot of time in Canda and Europe and no one I know has had the 6 month issue you wrote about. But I have seen people wait 12 hours or more in our own ERs and I have given up on using the VA here, it is even worse.
As to the R&D investment, I was just in Germany and Switzerland a few weeks ago and some of the most successful Pharma companies are in those two countries! They spend more per dollar of income on R&D than our “great” companies do, you can buy many drugs OTC without having to see a Doctor and they are much cheaper than here.
Bottom line is until you do your OWN research, don’t spout sh!t you don’t know about or understand. Our healthcare industry is corrupt and wants people like you to swallow whatever they tell you.

June 28th, 2007 at 1:18 pmThe US has had a long history of supporting despotic leaders so we could obtain the economic items we desired, in that light there are many reasons that an improperly thought out idea could lead one to see conspiracies everywhere
June 28th, 2007 at 1:19 pmPoor uneducated individuals are ripe for any magnetic personality to exploit, then be sent on a mission of “justice” for their brethern. Governments that use authoritarian means of control eventually ostricise themselves from the population thereby creation an us and them mentality. After this occurs the end is near, ask the Sun King next Bastille Day. As a government, when we support these despots we then make ourselves, both the government and the populace, a target of violent anger. The corporations that opperate under the American Flag do the same thing when they give financial support for these same despots in the name of the share holder.
