Vote to defund Cheney this morning.

Vote to defund Cheney this morning.»

Rep. Rahm Emanuel’s (D-IL) amendment to restrict the $4.75 million budget for the Vice President’s Office will be voted on today, with debate beginning around 11:30 AM. (Read the text of the legislation HERE.) In a statement this morning, Emanuel addressed Cheney’s supposed reversal yesterday:

As you know, the Vice President previously claimed he was exempt from an executive order governing classified materials because his office is not an “entity within the executive branch.” Yesterday, the Vice President changed his argument, saying he remained exempt from the order because he is a member of the executive branch.

While the excuses may have changed, the Vice President’s willingness to ignore the rules remains just as strong as ever. Democrats are prepared to hold the Vice President accountable and ensure that no one in our government is above the law.

    Taco Bell is “forthmeal”.

    Cheney is “Forthbranch”.

I do not crave him late at night.

  4. Crump's Brother Says:

Emanuel better be careful. I’m sure Cheney is warming up a bed at Gitmo for him!!

I usually disagree with Emanuel on many things, but this is outstanding stuff.

  5. barrelhse Says:

My conclusion is that the current administration consists of “The Boys from Brazil.”
Otherwise, how could one explain the confluence of so many fascist bastards in one place?

  6. Upside00 Says:

Any person who can shoot a “friend” and get said friend to APOLOGIZE for stopping Darth’s buckshot with his face is one scary dude!!!

So watch out Emanuel, after all, he only SHOT his friend, what will he do to you?

  7. Elliot Says:

Why don’t they defund the VP and Prez until the documents are released.

  8. Man Says:

Immigration bill? What immigration bill? We need to bury Cheney under this measly chunk of change ‘outrage’. MORE MORE MORE

Meanwhile, the pols of BOTH sides are busy arriving at a sweet bipartisan consensus to raise their pay by $4,400 to reach $170k per year. COLA is alive and well.

  9. Fred Says:

Sadly, this won’t get anywhere and Cheney will end up looking stronger. If I’m wrong that’s a great thing but, I hope the dems did their homework before bringing this to the floor.

  10. Man Says:

So watch out Emanuel, after all, he only SHOT his friend, what will he do to you?

Cheney will make Emanuel disappear into the American Gulag System to die, working himself to death digging in a Cheney-owned mine in Virginia or something.

    Cue the scary music.

I love you guys, the batshit-crazy things you come up are always good for a laugh.

  11. Jay Randal Says:

Impeach Darth Dicky Cheney. Trying to cut off funding to him will fail.

  12. Upside00 Says:

As long as the partisan politics continue, instead of them taking care of our country, these idiots will be a complete and utter failure just like the last Republican led Congress.

    Comment by Conservatron

Have to chuckle at that statement. This group in the WH is the most partisan to ever darken the halls there. And that covers a LOT of time.

But it isn’t partisan when it is YOUR party in office, but as time moves on, history will show this to be the most corrupt and the most damaging we have ever had in Washington.

But you are too close to it so you are blinded by it. GO overseas sometime like I do, and you will see how things really are, from a “no-partisan” POV.

And here I thought you LIKED what the Congressional Republicans fostered when they were the majority!

Then again, like a typical NeoCon-tard, your rose-colored glasses refuse to allow you to see the truth of the entrenched Republican partisan political machine.

Um, Conservatron, I think I heard this line – “think on your own child, you may get somewhere in life, kid” – on “Spongebob Squarepants” the other day.

But, hey, we all have our own sources …

  18. tarazan Says:

It is not Bush or Cheney to be blamed….but rather the Congress.

All governments and rulers like to accumulate as much power as they can.
Thru history, it has been the case…but also historically people distrusted leaders and put some ristrictions on them.

Cheney is trying to maneuver around laws in the books.

Cheney is no exception to this…the maneuvering attempts has been excercised by people in power in the past, but what is surprising is that the Congress is showing weaknesses on this issue which helped to encourage Cheney & company to resist Congress attempts to limit his powers.

I think he is President Clinton. ValianttheHater/Howsad spoke to me in Spanish with insults, and PC never did that.

I dont know, I dont care, both are annoyingly stupid posting complete paragraphs of absolutely nothing.

  22. Upside00 Says:

    #22 Tarazan

You are right and what is so interesting is to see the two most powerful people in this country (Darth and Rover) and how they get their rocks off using their handpuppets (Dubya, Gonzo, Scalia) to do what they could never do on their own.

Neither of those two pasty boyz could EVER get elected to the office of President, so they jerk their chains behind the curtains.

  23. Karim Says:

    Cheney is done for.

  24. Chapman Says:

    Absolutely Brilliant…
My approval of Congress should this pass will increase 10 fold in one bold move. Do this thing & follow through on those subpoenas. I guarantee if we the People see Congress standing up for what is right we will back you 100%. Peace through strength…

  25. Kay Says:

As my dear grandmother always said to me : “Honey, it all comes out in the wash”.

And the same applies to EVIL Cheney.
Doesn’t it seem like every day someone in Chimpy’s (The Alcoholic) Crime Cabal Admin. is EITHER :

    *resigning
    *under investigation
    *OR INDICTED.

This is the most COVERT, CORRUPT administration in the history of this country. I love my country but FEAR my government.

This country is no longer about the PEOPLE : it’s all about Darth Cheney and how he circumvents the law.

How does this PIECE OF SH*T (with all of his deferrments) look at himself in the mirror every morning knowing he is sending the men and women to fight for a non-existent enemy.

We have met the enemy and he is US.

Cheney’s dastardly deeds, will come out in the wash.

Anything less will kick your corporatist candidate Hillary Clinton into the dustbin of history where her triangulating ass belongs.

You’d better take this news flash back and report at your next DLC meeting.

  27. lonesomerobot Says:

    hmmmm.
unlike conservatron, who seems to need the authoritarian guidance of his conservative masters, most libs i know — and the problem with the democratic party is this — DON’T march in lockstep. they can’t form a coherent and easily explained message, and if they had one they couldn’t stay on it.

and they’ve been letting right wingers and their sheep-like followers (dolts like conservatron) wrongly define who they are to the public for the last couple of decades.

if you can’t figure out what the problem with dick cheney is, than you are not using your brain.

simple fact: if gore had attempted what cheney is doing now, we would have never heard the end of it. witness that gore didn’t even attempt a miniscule fraction of what cheney has done, and we still don’t hear the end of it.

it’s a whole new century conservatron, try to catch up.

  29. missmolly Says:

Conservatron — if you are going to post “facts” and “statistics”, could you post some links? While the approval rating for Congress is low, it’s not as low as 14%. Newsweek’s poll conducted on June 18-19 has it at 25% and Gallup’s poll conducted June 11-14 has it at 24%. Still low, but not as low as you paint it. But the low rating isn’t due to the “partisan politics” the Dems are supposedly engaging in (like they’re the only ones?), but because the Dems have not done what they were elected to do — end the war in Iraq and hold the White House accountable for their actions.

You also claim that Rahm Emanuel belonged to “an administration that holds the record for the most indicted and convicted members”. Please post your evidence that Clinton’s White House had more members indicted and convicted than Reagan’s or Nixon’s administrations. Otherwise it’s pretty obvious you’re just making your information up.

when some are above the law there is no law. How do I explain to my teenagers the actions of the lawless men running this country? How to explain this criminal enterprise that stole our nation? Don’t break the law I tell them, but it just bounces back that the rich don’t have to, why should they? This is what I was told by a teenager yesterday. Find a way to break the law, it is the only way to get ahead.
    We are screwed.

  32. lw Says:

They need to do the same with the President until he complies with the subpoenas.

  38. Audrey Says:

#35 By golly missmolly, you are exactly correct. Mr. Rightwing nutcase should show us some facts before running off at the mouth. Isn’t a Conservatron some kind of a Republican robot?

  39. Fed the Fcuk Up! Says:

I’m sure that chart really hurt Cheney’s feelings.

    Wow, Rahm, great work.

How many people did we murder and torture yesterday? Who cares. How many of our children, brothers, and sisters died yesterday serving this nation honorably but being misused and exploited for our tyrannical crusade? We don’t give a shite, they are just niggas and spicks any way.

Our focus and our energies are concentrated and directed at the urgent and most necessary task of publicly calling V.P. Cheney a “dick”.

    Progressive indeed.

  40. pluege Says:

Emmanuel’s ploy is cute, but ultimately counterproductive. Defunding the OVP only gives credence to cheney’s crap. Congress should just reject the notion and if it has to, investigate cheney’s misuse and abuse of secret information.

Cause all I see is a big mouth who comes in every day and accuses everyone else of doing nothing but talking, which of course is all he’s doing.

    What’s your great contribution mouth?

  42. David Says:

Conservatron - 14%, huh? Isn’t congress something like 53% Democratic and 47% Republican (at best)? If it weren’t for the Democrats, the congressional approval ratings would be in the single digits.

The Republican Congress has vetoed TWICE as many bills than the PAST FOUR administrations COMBINED.

  43. JG Says:

I think it needs to be more than just unfunding. I believe if he is NOT part of the Executive, Cheney should not be able to reside in the VP’s residence, I believe he should not be entitled to protection from the Secret Service, I believe he should not have an even larger staff than the President of the United States, paid for by the taxpayers of the US. He should not have his own shadow National Security Council and he should not have access to Classified material, nor should his staff. He should not be able to claim himself protected from subpoenas and oversight claiming the Executive Branch when it suits his purposes.
He should definitely not be getting all the money he gets to run his office if he is not considering himself part of the Executive.

He can’t play it both ways. If he is exempt from RULES governing the executive branch OR the legislative branch, then he should be exempt from being paid as a member of either of those branches. He is paid by the American people and he is accountable to them. They CAN cut off his funding if he won’t play by the rules that are put in place to protect the American people from exactly this kind of behavior and abuse of power.

  51. truth Says:

You could try to make the argument that there are pedophiles on both sides of the political, but maybe, just maybe, there is a correlation between conservatism (or a strict code of moralism) and a propensity towards pedophilia. Hear me out for a second. Many people who have an urge to do something wrong (be it shoplifting, or robbery, or drugs or child abuse or rape) KNOW it’s wrong. They might in fact try to fight it, to the point of suppressing any sort of socially liberated thoughts. Which is why they embrace GOP-esque conservative causes, or enter the clergy. By preaching to others to abstain, not to give in to temptation, perhaps they can save themselves from the temptation. But humans is as humans does, and eventually, the urge to wrong proves too strong. In fact, the effort to be really “good” becomes so stressful, they feel entitled to be really “bad” once in a while, as opposed to godless heathens like me, who are generally pretty content living their lives as they fit, absent of an organization’s moral code, and therefore have no urge to break a law or a young girl’s cherry. Of course, it could also be that they’re friggin’ hypocrites and shameless opportunists. And it’s also possible that I don’t know what I’m talking about. But hey, it makes sense to me.

You are an IDIOT and to that you can now go and sit on a stick this made the Dems standing by the de-funding look like you BARTELBEE frakkin idiots!!

  54. notsurprised Says:

#53 — let’s hope so, regardless of who the Democrats put up against him, they’d win in a landslide. Of course, Dick would not be likely to last through the campaign trail, just imagine what would be exposed if the press were around him on a regular basis. 60. freedomrings Says:

In case you missed it Emanuel’s amendment was voted down there will be a recorded vote later but as many realized this would be Unconstitutional if accepted. Worse than that the Democrats supporting the amendment cheapen the whole process. If Cheney refuses to comply with all requests and it is determined that he broke the law the only possible solution is to impeach him. It has not been officially determined that Cheney committed a crime so Emanuel’s amendment is intended to punish the VP for what? The role of Congress is not to punish through legislation. Those offices are to always be funded as was agreed.

By Me. Not Associated with any Press. June 28th, 2007

    Breaking:

Mr. Flaco Flatulence of Virgina states science cannot answer the ultimate question: Where do we come from? In light of this claim, Mr. Flatulence defaults to an answer only found in a popular publication known as the Bible (research). Mr. Flatulence points out we must have come from God then, there is no other available answer.

According to Sarah Silverman, who had a one night stand with God, that is not the case. God reportedly said he created the Universe, that’s it. Ever since, God has let things take an automatic course so to speak. “God really doesn’t care about much more than getting laid with intelligent, sexy women.” Ms. Silverman points out.

In responding to this, Mr. Flatulence admitted he needs to have an answer to this unanswerable question, and really doesn’t agree with Ms. Silverman. “So I turned to the Bible” he states. “The Bible has ways of explaining everything, and since I am pretty scared as a person, I embrace a book written by other men, to provide such lofty unanswerable answers.”

Calls to God were not immidiatly returned.

  71. Cole Says:

‘the Dick’ Cheney may not have broken the law–perhaps what he did was resign from his position and violated his Oath of office, in which he agreed to the terms of the office he was taking. That’s fair. And defunding an office which has no inhabitant is not a punishment.
