Bill Moyers on Rupert Murdoch:

Bill Moyers on Rupert Murdoch:

He’ll eat anything in his path.” Moyers adds, “Rupert Murdoch is no saint, he is to propriety what the Marquis de Sade was to chastity. When it comes to money and power, he is carnivorous, all appetite, no taste.” Watch it:

    Mr. President,

We should talk. Look, I’m going hunting next week. Maybe you could join me and Gonzo?

  15. â™  says:

Evil Capitalist Pig©, creating a successful business empire..this is OUTRAGEOUS!

We need to break up this old jerk’s corporation and give it to good liberals who will spread the truth, not the pernicious lies that Murdoch peddles.

Of course that would mean we need to find a handful of libs who are willing to work, and that might be a problem, but perhaps there is a government agency which trains lefties in the art of manual labor. If not, we can create one and send Murdoch the bill.

Get the torches, we’re heading down to Fox headquarters to set things right…er..left! HIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  16. Frank J says:

Really!..Murdoch should suck off the taxpayers tit like Moyers. What is wrong with Rupert?

  17. missmolly says:

I look forward to what Bill Moyers has to say on the subject of Rupert Murdoch tonight. While Moyers doesn’t mince words, he will present a mature logical argument for his POV — unlike too many media talking heads whose idea of scathing commentary consists solely of schoolyard taunts.

  18. Gaydar3000 says:

  19. Harry Undertaker Reid says:

Rupert Murdoch is the reason why wealth is so uneven in our country. He does so little work for all that money.

By the way, has anybody seen my “cost-of-living” adjustment? If anybody comes across that, I’d appreciate it if they’d drop it off in Senate Room A424

    Thanks, American Progressos’

  21. spit take says:

    # 15 — so you’re okay with lies from the mainstream news media, as long as they make them a lot of money?

And if “lefties” are so lazy and underachieving, why is it that the most prosperous states in the nation are blue states and the poorest and worst educated are the red ones?

  23. sponson says:

Nobody sucks more government tit than Murdoch, trolls. Chinese government tit. You know, the Chinese, that you were outraged about a few years ago alleging that they had funnelled money to Al Gore? Those people. Only Murdoch is working with them for real. And for the worst reasons, to do the worst, most un-American things.

  26. Gaydar3000 says:

Flaco: you’re right, but sometimes I feel guilty because TP makes it so easy.

  27. Troll Imitating A Lefty says:

Murdoch should be crushed because he makes a lot of money!

We lefties hate money and if we have any then we are hypocrites because we are all Communists and Stalinists, which is the same thing, practically!

We lefties believe that a journalist who works for PBS is not necessarily a hypocrite just because he criticizes government or anyone else! What a bunch of moonbats we are! We live in a world where black and white are not necessarily the only colors! We’re so stupid for thinking that!

  28. veritas says:

Moyers has this sleezy excuse for a human being pegged to a tee, doesn’t he?

  35. Spudge_Boy says:

Not sure if any of you have seen this sh!t yet, but I can now mark Obama off my list of possible candidates.

Obama says despite shortcomings of Bush administration, impeachment is not acceptable

“I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breeches, and intentional breeches of the president’s authority,” he said.

“I believe if we began impeachment proceedings we will be engulfed in more of the politics that has made Washington dysfunction,” he added. “We would once again, rather than attending to the people’s business, be engaged in a tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, nonstop circus.”

Washington is already a friggin’ circus. The Republicans put up the tents when they impeached CLinton for a blow job. The clowns were so funny, the world laughed at us.

  42. Frank J says:

Candy you can’t be serious? It is the left that wants to stop all views it disagrees with. Your hero Hugo Chavez is at the moment the example that Senator Di of California would like to copy.

Unfortunately for her Rep. Mike Pence put a stop to that nonsense today in the House.

  43. Fed the Fcuk Up! says:

I respect Bill Moyers as a professional journalist and appreciate the great work he’s done over the years.

But, I really didn’t need Mr. Moyers to tell me that Murdoch is a greedy and unscrupulous power junkie, a blind man could see that.

Which is why I don’t buy or watch anything that Murdoch produces, unlike many here who hate them man while simultaneously sending plenty of their money in his direction.

However, the REAL issue of the day is what hasn’t happened. Does ANYONE remember the diary on this site yesterday that had the lede?:

The Politico’s John Bresnehan reports that tomorrow, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will “announce a new coordinated effort to force votes in July to end the Iraq war“:

  47. Spudge_Boy says:

However, the REAL issue of the day is what hasn’t happened. Does ANYONE remember the diary on this site yesterday that had the lede?

I remember that FTFU. The Democrats are just trying to buy time ’til the election. They are in reality just doing their best Arlen Specter, talk a tough game and then do nothing. Well they might do something, like write a letter or pass non-binding resolutions. That isn’t good enough for the American people. We want the war ended and impeachment started.

  48. Assistant to the Dean says:

But, I really didn’t need Mr. Moyers to tell me that Murdoch is a greedy and unscrupulous power junkie, a blind man could see that.

While you in your righteousness give away 90% of your earnings to the less fortunate and have refused promotion to allay fears that you might become a mid-level power broker with control over others.

How many illegals DO you have living in your basement?

  54. gorn by any other name says:

Given the volume and ferocity of posts from the troll brigade, one gets the idea that this batch of trolls is funded by News Corp.

Murdoch, by the way, is the giant succubus floating over the American body politic, causing morning wood with dreams of chest-beating false patriotism sprinkled with Paris Hilton in tears. Meanwhile, the succubus slowly drain the body of its lifeblood, yet never satiating the insatiable.

If you’re the biggest media empire on the planet and haven’t paid any taxes in four years, you are sucking off the public teat. End of story.

  55. Janeane The Acerbic Goblin says:

Moyers, as much as I respect him, shouldn’t compare Murdoch to the Marquis de Sade. De Sade was a very well read, intelligent man, who had a wicked sense of humour in many of his works, and has a great prose style. He actually was/is a great writer. Murdoch has no talent, other than turning everything he touches into the lowest common demoninator.

Funny seeing the WSJ staff squirm at the idea of Murdoch taking over their paper. I thought the “free market” was absolute there. Are they a bunch of commies now? Funny to see right wingers choke on their ideology.

  56. Yikes says:

And you trolls have no clue as to the dangers of ONE PERSON owning a lot of influential entities. Now let’s just think that if in fact this ONE PERSON is a reasonable person that only want the best for everyone including himself. Now let’s look at the facts I easily found so I won’t provide links. Rupert is now actually a Turkish citizen so that he could buy a TV network in Turkey. Then of course, Murdoch is one big tight wad when it comes to paying taxes:

Mr. Murdoch has an army of outside lobbyists, who have reported being paid more than $11 million since 1998 to address issues as diverse as trade relations, programming decency and Internet regulation. One firm focuses almost exclusively on parts of the tax code that affect the News Corporation. By taking advantage of a provision in the law that allows expanding companies like Mr. Murdoch’s to defer taxes to future years, the News Corporation paid no federal taxes in two of the last four years, and in the other two it paid only a fraction of what it otherwise would have owed. During that time, Securities and Exchange Commission records show, the News Corporation’s domestic pretax profits topped $9.4 billion.

Yeah, this ONE PERSON, really gives a flying $$%#$^& about giving back any cashola to the governments that allow him to do business. This butthole of a human being is one hell of a greedy muthertucker.

Go ahead Troll dirt bags, praise Robert Murdoch. It’s not surprising though, as you praise Bush and any other greedy mothertucker taht takes advantage of his power and influence.

You Trolls ARE TRULY BLINDED AND NEED A WAKE UP CALL.

  57. Fed the Fcuk Up! says:

    #47,

    Amen to that.

The silence here, though, is deafening. Could it be that that one little morsel of a promise to start to do something was just enough to placate the “anti-war” crowd for a week or so? I hope not.

Yet, aside from a small mention of 5 more dead GIs in the ThinkFast diary, the only mention of the Iraq Genocide Project is a diary about Pace employing ESP folks to gauge the new all-important metric of how Iraqis are “feeling”.

However, we did get treated to (2) publicity diaries for FOX, (5) diaries about mean and nasty Republicans and neocons, and (1) long winded diary about phony car bombs in London.

What the hell is going on?

  58. Edward R Olbermann says:

Moyers is a liberal hack who when confronted with his words he lied and denied.

I’m the dean now, Mr. President. That’s right, the director, the chalupa, the chief of all trolls here at TP. I won’t be an authoritative freak, as my goal is strictly to enhance the presence and profile of trolls on this site. I simply want to make all trolls on this site pure winners. I believe this should be a collective effort.

    Are you with me?

There is a reason you hate and fear FOX, because it owns the airwaves and you dont like it. Plus, it has the best chicks; even Rudi Bahktiar jumped from the rat-infested sinking ship that is CNN to join Fox.

Have absolutely no compunction about cheating and stealing for want you want. 4. Only suckers pay taxes. 5. Damn straight Bread. There are far too many loopholes in the system and there are members of all political parties and of all religious and non-religious organizations that take advantage of these loopholes. However, this thread is specifically about Moyer calling Murdoch what he is. I equated Murdoch with Bush and abuse of power. If you want to make more out it than that, go ahead. But in the future, remember the topic at hand and if you think I said something more general, then by all means ask. Over reacting appears to me like what trolls do.

Bread: wealth is not the root of all evil. For people of character, wealth is an enabler for great works. People are entitled to enjoy personal comfort, but people of character will recognize that there is a point of diminishing return on personal comfort, and begin to direct wealth elsewhere.

Problem is, the intersection of “right wing” and “people of character” is the null set.

If you want to see a big intersection, you need to cross “right wing” with “intoxicated with power”, “indifferent to the welfare of others”, “deluded”, or “too stupid to remain in the gene pool”. All four apply to George Bush. Rupert Murdoch probably only qualifies for the first two.

Your generalizing my comments is just rude and if your ok with that, well, you have shown us part of your character. Which could then presumably be applied to characters such as Edwards, Kerry or Kennedy, to name a few.

Edwards houses how many poor people in his mansion?

    Kerry has how many houses?

Kennedy doesnt want energy-windmills by his house because they will spoil his view of the ocean?

As for too stupid to remain in the gene pool, I will reference you back to 99% of the libs who post here. Somehow nature allowed them to survive.

“Sure glad conservatives control the media. That keeps Moyers off the air…oh…never mind.

    Comment by Frank J “

Well, they have tried to keep him off the air. Bush has packed PBS with right wingers and they have tried to cut funding to PBS. Fortunately the public and enough Republic senators and congressmen still support public broadcasting.

So, Frank, would you be happy if every news outlet in this country was just another extension of the Republic party? That seems to be your goal.

  114. orionATL says:

    in 2009

rupert murdoch needs to appear before congress and answer questions on his frequent efforts to influence print and electronic media he owns (as does jack welsh).

if murdoch is focused on influencing the “news” his properties present,

he needs to have his american citizenship revoked, be sent back to australia, and have his media empire disbanded.

there is no reason whatsoever to believe that murdoch has any concern for or interest in american society or politics,

except as a cash cow for his properties.

reptiles like murdoch exist in all societies,

    take newt gingrich for example,

but murdoch’s achilles heel is that he was granted u.s. citizenship,

and that citizenship is essential to his continued ownership of american media properties.

  115. JPark says:

Wow, Flaccid, Castro? Is he the left’s hero now? I didn’t get the memo.

  116. JPark says:

“Really!..Murdoch should suck off the taxpayers tit like Moyers. What is wrong with Rupert?”

Is that a joke, Frank J? Public broadcasting comes nowhere near corporate welfare. Der.

  117. JPark says:

    “Boo-hoo.

    Typical Lefty Stalinist.

No one is going to reinstate the fairness doctrine!!!”

Um, you do realize Stalin did not let liberals speak, right? Liberals are not fans of dictatorship.

  118. Jay Randal says:

Murdoch is a very ugly man, but he is wealthy so he enjoys gobbling up newspapers and TV stations worldwide. He is not an American citizen, so he should be deported back to Australia.

  119. JPark says:

Liberals went to Siberia when Stalin was in power. Just read the Gulag Archipelago.

  120. JPark says:

Remember, everybody, Murdoch likes Hillary. Think about that when you vote in the primaries.

    I hear you.
It is sort of like going through the main section of a newspaper and trying to find any news articles hiding in between all those huge paid ads… What a waste of paper..
Do you suppose these people are paid to disrupt these lists? They are certainly bottom-feeders.. I am tired of the spitting and pissing contests. To all you bottom feeders.. Grow up and then come back.

  125. JPark says:

Jay, come on, can’t you see Hillary and Rupert together? I can…therefore I will vote for Ole Hill after hell freezes over.

  126. Marie says:

I am so glad to see Moyers is back on TV. I wish he were on more often and in better time slots, but for now, I am happy for what we have.

  127. JPark says:

“JPark > Hillary Clinton has been seen kissing Murdoch, so no wonder Bill looks for other women”

Jay, that is old news but it surprised the he!! out of me. I was disinclined to vote for her but after that there was no chance.

  128. Edward R Olbermann says:

    Moyers = liberal hack

  129. Grim Reaper says:

Someone erroneously stated Murdoch is not a US citizen. Bush 41 expedited the paperwork to make Murdoch a citizen. That is the only way he could own a TV station in this country.

PS If you don’t get Kucinich elected this time I’ll be visiting you all very soon.

  130. Edward R Olbermann says:

go Kucinich. he’s not a coward and is not scared of Fox News

  131. mark farts says:

I think Murdoch is the Hypocrite, not Bill Moyers. Greed knows no limit.

Look around you and prove me otherwise.
We need Kucinich (someone who tells it like it is) for President in 2008. Help the man cause he’ll help you back.

Unless you’re loyal to greed & money (like most folks), disregard this message.

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH–HAH–HAH–HAH!!!

    BOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

“Those are OUR airwaves. So WHAT if we can’t compete on equal footing, we demand equal time!” It’s not enough that we have the vast majority of newspapers, all the TV networks, most of the cable news shows, all of Hollywood and all of academia.

It’s our BIRTHRIGHT to dominate ALL of them. And I won’t stop stomping my feet until you give it to me!!!

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

    :-(
