Earlier this week, ThinkProgress reported that this Sunday’s edition of NBC’s Meet the Press will include a journalist roundtable featuring David Brody, a blogger and news correspondent for Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network. Meet the Press has now confirmed its Sunday roundtable lineup:
DAVID BRODY
Senior National Correspondent, Christian Broadcasting Network
TAVIS SMILEY
Host, PBS’s Tavis Smiley
Host, PRI’s The Tavis Smiley Show
Moderator, PBS’s All-American Democratic Forum
CHUCK TODD
Political Director, NBC News
JUDY WOODRUFF
Senior Correspondent, PBS’s The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer
I hope they’re ready with the subtitles when he starts speaking in tongues.

June 29th, 2007 at 4:42 pmOne Conservative and four liberals is almost fair. Need to add about four more libs to even things out.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:42 pmA propaganda show is having a guest on that is skewed considerably towards the message that they are selling?
Seriously?
Wow, doesn’t get more shocking than that.
Well, except now a bunch of “progressives” will watch the show just so they can witness firsthand that which they know will already be the case.
And they will contribute to the viewership ratings, which will then generate more advertising dollars for the show, which then allows them to pay for more propaganda guests.
Oh, I’m sorry, did I depress you? Well, here’s a joke for you:

June 29th, 2007 at 4:56 pmA Pat Robertson butt kisser? There goes the neighborhood.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:57 pmYou got a Christian on a show with four other liberals ( a show almost no one watches) and you are having a panic attack. Why?
June 29th, 2007 at 4:57 pmThree journalists and a zealot? Is that balance?
June 29th, 2007 at 4:58 pmThis explains the desperation of trying to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. One conservative and four liberals means certain defeat….for the liberals!….LOL.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:59 pmHow dare they let a Christian on TV!! Why can’t we just go ahead and outlaw christian from the airwaves!

June 29th, 2007 at 5:01 pmHello,
I know 2 of the LIBERALS are christian, so why the CRAP about a christian being on the show. Are you sure Brody is a christian? Are you sure Pat Robertson is a christian, or is he the anti-christ.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:03 pmHow dare they let a Christian on TV!! Why can’t we just go ahead and outlaw christian from the airwaves!
Comment by Roger_Roger
The ‘christian’ you write about does not espuse any of the religous tenents that Jesus spoke about. As there are many different Muslims (some good, some bad) there are also good and bad christians – Brody is a bad christian. His ( and Robertsons) teachings are bigoted, racisit, and wrong. Hmmm, now that I think about it, thats why you think it is ok to poison the coversation, huh?
June 29th, 2007 at 5:04 pmWhat makes you believe the liberals are Christian and not the anti-Christ?..

June 29th, 2007 at 5:05 pmIf he is everything you say shouldn’t four liberals be enough to handle him and prevent this moonbat panic?
June 29th, 2007 at 5:05 pmIt’sw not about a Christian being on MTP, it’s about all the clearly dominant bloggers who will NOT be there. Like, you know,

June 29th, 2007 at 5:10 pmThings you would have never heard Jesus say: ” Go kill (fill in blank.)
Pat Robertson:” … kill Hugo Chavez.”

June 29th, 2007 at 5:10 pmIf Kos were added then you would have five people saying the same thing and the liberals would still look silly.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:11 pmFrank: “One Conservative and four liberals is almost fair. Need to add about four more libs to even things out.”
Which ones are liberals? Broder has been sticking up for Bush and his war for years and slamming liberals. Read any Broder column over the last two years. Tavis Smiley poses as a liberal, but is friends with Repub pollster Frank Luntz and actually is having Luntz come on his show to analyze a Democratic forum. Chuck Todd works for General Electric – enough said. Judy Woodruff is a self-described centrist.
Part of the problem here is that insane right-wing nuts like Frank think everyone to the left of Pat Robertson is a liberal when there are really no real liberals on television. Lots of conservatives, though.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:12 pmThings you would never hear a liberal. “Stop being a tax collector and come follow me”..Jesus Christ.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:12 pmRoger: “How dare they let a Christian on TV!! Why can’t we just go ahead and outlaw christian from the airwaves!”
Is there anyone on NBC or MSNBC besides Keith Olberman who is NOT a christian? Six of our nine Supreme court justices are Catholics and 5 of them are conservative Catholics. Two of them are part of Opus Dei, for crissakes! This phony argument is the biggest pile of b.s. I’ve seen here in a while. They’re almost ALL christians. Can anyone name an athiest on television?
June 29th, 2007 at 5:15 pmIf you really want to “Meet the Press” then grab a handful of flowers and head to the cemetery.
P.S. Be sure and convey to them how much we miss them.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:15 pmWho doesn’t know and love a Christian?
Robertson is a radical, and a weirdo. And this is one in a long series of weird actions by Russert. Here, allow me to paraphrase Russert:
“It’s not my job to ask investigative questions. There’s not even an anti-war party you dolt!”
June 29th, 2007 at 5:16 pmFrank > most so-called Christians today would NOT follow Jesus, because he would say leave your money and come with me. Pat Robertson would say “Screw that I love diamond smuggling.”
June 29th, 2007 at 5:16 pm#27,

June 29th, 2007 at 5:17 pmThings you never hear from a conservative christian: “For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required.†– Jesus

June 29th, 2007 at 5:21 pmFrank calls David Broder a “liberal.”
Here’s Broder from 2003 in Harper’s: BRODER: “Let me disclose my own bias in this matter. I like Karl Rove. In the days when he was operating from Austin, we had many long and rewarding conversations. I have eaten quail at his table and admired the splendid Hill Country landscape from the porch of the historic cabin Karl and his wife Darby found miles away and had carted to its present site on their land.”Â
Frank, you’ve got a very strange outlook on what defines a liberal.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:25 pmLiberal- a verb meaning to steal; to take a dollar from those who produce to give twenty-eight cents to those who don’t. 2) naive.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:27 pmAnd I have just confirmed I will never watch that show again.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:28 pmFrank thinks liberal is a bad word. He thinks it means “to steal.” For the life of me, I can’t find this definition in any dictionary.
The Father of our country had a different view:
“As mankind becomes more liberal they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protection of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations in examples of justice and liberality.â€
– George Washington, Letter to the Roman Catholics, March 15, 1790
Frank, god only knows where you think your standing, but I’m standing with the Father of our country.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:31 pmIt’s tragic really. In 1983, Ronald Reagan’s administration doubled the Social Security tax. This was the largest tax increase in history and came from only working class people. The idea was that boomers would pay for their own retirements. Social Security surpluses built up for 18 years and then Bush gave over 90% of them to the nation’s top 2% of the wealthy. He took hundreds of billions in money collected from the working class and gave it to the wealthy – the biggest redistribution of wealth in the history of civilization – and nuts like Frank are still repeating this silly old cannard about liberals and their ideas about progressive taxation. I guess wealth redistribution is OK with nuts like Frank if it’s going up but wrong if it’s going down.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:36 pm#35. You seem to dislike the welfare system. I agree. Let’s get rid of corporate welfare NOW! Your idols in the Bush regime love to give handouts to big oil and the energy companies.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:37 pmA reliably center/right coalition of soft journalists. Timmeh need have no fear that someone like Helen Thomas will ask him an awkward question or make him look like he didn’t have time to do his homework, what with all those folks at the clambake on the Vineyard. Timmeh has long since given up being a reporter; he’s just protecting his source of funds.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:37 pmBy the way, Frank, progressive taxation is a Christian idea. I re-post the gospel:
“For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required.†— Luke 12:48

What about these Washington quotes? Are you with the father of our country on on these?
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.”
“It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible”
“Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles.”
June 29th, 2007 at 5:38 pm“For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required.†— Luke 12:48
Comment by Ret. Col. Jack Ripper
What about to people where things are not given but earned? What about people that are given welfare, what is required of them? I don’t think that quote from the bible really advocates welfare as we know it.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:42 pmWashington was talking about classical liberalism he would have no idea what to call the modern moonbat.
AS for Luke 12: 48 this means a Christian who is given much, meaning life in Christ is expected to the will of the Father even unto death, just as the son did. It has nothing at all to do with taxation.
There are three subjects the left should avoid at all costs. Christianity, free market economics and national security.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:46 pmDamn Christians are always effing things up. Who do they think they are trying to help people in the crapholes of the world with food, medicine and shelter?
Its high time we ban, BAN I say, Christianity and get back to distributing positive waves and good intentions instead of relief supplies.
Help us Gaia Earth Mother!
June 29th, 2007 at 5:47 pmBy the way, Frank, progressive taxation is a Christian idea. I re-post the gospel:

Talk about lame, wow!
June 29th, 2007 at 6:24 pmyep’s questionable Washington quote: “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bibleâ€
yep, I’ve seen people using this quote, but for some time now, I have been unable to find anything in George Washington’s writings that indicate its origin. Do you have a citation? I don’t think it’s a legitimate quote. Those closest to Washington all attest that he was a rather uncommitted Deist. The most he ever attended church was about 14 times in one year in the late 1870’s. He constantly argued with church leaders who complained that Jesus was not mentioned in the Consitution.
So, if you could direct me to the Washington writings where this quote is found, I would appreciate it.
And, Frank, in that passage from Luke, I think Jesus is talking about the responsibility people have to give to the poor.
June 29th, 2007 at 6:47 pm“The founders of our nation were nearly all Infidels, and that of the presidents who had thus far been elected [Washington; Adams; Jefferson; Madison; Monroe; Adams; Jackson] not a one had professed a belief in Christianity.
June 29th, 2007 at 6:50 pmAmong all our presidents from Washington downward, not one was a professor of religion, at least not of more than Unitarianism.”
– The Reverend Doctor Bird Wilson, an Episcopal minister in Albany, New York, in a sermon preached in October, 1831
“There is nothing which can better deserve our patronage than the promotion of science and literature.
Knowledge is in every country the surest basis of public happiness.”
George Washington, address to Congress, 8 January, 1790
June 29th, 2007 at 6:52 pmFrank: “Liberalism/Socialism is designed to create as many poor people as possible. How this helps the poor by creating more of them I will leave to the left to explain.”
Frank, please. You’re simply showing your ignorance of basic principles here. Liberalism is a philosophy. Socialism is an economic system in which the state owns the means of production.
June 29th, 2007 at 6:56 pmWhy do people keep referring to David Broder as a liberal. Again, from Harpers in 2003:
BRODER: “Let me disclose my own bias in this matter. I like Karl Rove. In the days when he was operating from Austin, we had many long and rewarding conversations. I have eaten quail at his table and admired the splendid Hill Country landscape from the porch of the historic cabin Karl and his wife Darby found miles away and had carted to its present site on their land.â€Â
June 29th, 2007 at 7:01 pmWhat does giving to the poor have to do with liberalism? And Jesus was not talking about giving to the poor in that verse from Luke. Helping support the poor is the impact of having Christ in your life. You help the poor because Christ helped the poor.
The much required is living as Christ lived even unto death. That is what he was talking about. Not a welfare program. As I mentioned earlier post modern liberalism is about creating more poor people not less. And that is not helping anyone.
June 29th, 2007 at 7:03 pmDavid Broder is not on the show. David Brody and four other liberals are.
June 29th, 2007 at 7:04 pmYep, I’ll try again. Every quote I have given has been accompanied by a source. You presented three dubious quotes which I cannot find in any of Washington’s writings or speeches. Can you see why I have a problem with this? I happen to know that christian propagandists are manufacturing phony Founders’ quotes for political purposes. I’m not saying your quotes fit in that catagory, but the fact that you have no citations to back them up makes me suspicious of their origin and validity.
June 29th, 2007 at 7:05 pmFrank, do you ever watch the show. David Broder is on almost every week, but I was confusing the two names. Thanks for clearing that up.
June 29th, 2007 at 7:07 pm“For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was a stranger, you took me into your home, when naked you clothed me; when I was ill you came to my help, when in prison you visited me.” Â Â Â Â Â (Matthew 25: 35-37)
Frank, as Al Franken has pointed out, if you take all of the liberal stuff about helping the poor, not being judgemental, being non-violent and helping your brother man out of the New Testament, you’re left with a nice box to hold Rush Limbaugh’s illegal drugs. You may not want to admit it, but the philosophy expressed by Jesus in the New Testament is profoundly liberal.
June 29th, 2007 at 7:13 pmWell done Ripper. Keep up the good work.
June 29th, 2007 at 7:16 pmIf this person from Robertsons “christian network” says anything political Robertson should lose his tax exempt status.
Sick of this S H I T!
June 29th, 2007 at 7:27 pmThanks, kelso. As someone who was raised in a very strict religious family and read the bible many times before losing my faith, it’s hard for me to believe anyone even tries to argue that the philosophy expressed in the New Testament is not liberal. You have a great weekend. Gotta go!
June 29th, 2007 at 7:28 pmShould do wonders for their ratings. Is it Nielson week?
June 29th, 2007 at 7:32 pmLeo Strauss taught Irving Kristol and Paul Wolfowitz that leaders should use the “necessary lies” of religion and national destiny as tools of control over the people to hold society together with a shared common belief system. He did not say they (leaders) had to believe it or that they were accurately depicting the fundamental teaching of the religion.
June 29th, 2007 at 8:12 pmjust what we need, more neo-con extremists, more American Taliban telling us how to live our lives all the while worshiping the god of Greed and Power.
June 29th, 2007 at 8:25 pmDavid Brody, Tavis Smiley, Chuck Todd and Judy Woodruff.
That’s quite a group of hard-hitters (not) on the ‘jewel in the crown’ of NBC’s political programming. Representing: Christian rightwingers (Brody), Black Americans (Smiley), I-have-no-idea-who-Chuck-Todd-is-supposed-to-speak-for-if-not-MSM, and Woodruff (us batshit-crazy libs).
Let’s play ‘Jeopardy’ and guess what the subject for this week’s MTP is.

June 30th, 2007 at 2:08 amThe problem with “Meet the Press” is Tim Russert. The format needs to change to a weekly panel representing balance . I can’t remember a show where that has occurred. Timmy is soft on conservatives and unfair to liberals with trick questions of dubious veracity. The show is no longer on my “must see” list. Russert’s ego is the whole show.
June 30th, 2007 at 9:57 amIt’s TV folks , I don’t believe MTP is required by law to view, let alone further Tim Russert’s boot licking of his off the record sources who feed his greedy little brain with pure GOP smoke and BS. The Libby trial proved exactly where his head is, straight up the VP’s ass.
June 30th, 2007 at 10:29 amWhen did news agencies start calling interviewing other mainstream media “journalists” good television?
How is it productive or even entertaining to watch these sophisticants sit around and pat each other on the back and reinforce big-media memes?
