Passerby tackled after ripping Fox News mic from anchor.

This morning, Fox News reporter Laura Ingle was conducting an interview about the iPhone on the streets of New York City. In the middle of the interview, a passerby came up and yanked her microphone away from her. He then ran away, yelling expletives, before being tackled by members of the Fox News crew. Watch it:

One of the Fox hosts explained, “Clearly people sometimes have disputes with the media; that’s not the way to handle the situation.”

Under the circumstances, I can’t find anything wrong with what that guy did, except maybe not run fast enough. It’s not like he was interrupting news or anything.

But, if it had been Paris Hilton who grabbed the mic, well, they’d have given her an hour of [expletive deleted] airtime. No???

Not for you maybe, but for the person on the street it’s reasonable. You are the enemy of America, after all.

  17. BARTLEBEE says:

Whats significant here is that the “news crew” tackled the guy.

He snatched the mic and ran off.

So? So he was an idiot. So you grab the mic and keep going. But what the hell is a news crew doing “TACKLING” an individual.

    Newsflash.

A private citizen cannot make a citizens arrest for a misdemeanor, only a felony. Snatching that mic at BEST, could be called “simple assualt”, a misdemeanor.

So by tackling this guy and restraining them, they could actually be charged with “KIDNAPPING”. Thats right. When you restrain a person who is not CURRENTLY doing anything to you, and restrict his ability to leave, you are effectively kidnapping them. Also Assualt, and if he was injured, battery.

Fox news crews are not the police, but since 911 they’ve been acting like police. They have no right to tackle people on the street.

Even clowns who snatch mic’s from announcers. They could have tried to stop him from snatching the mic, but once he had walked off, and was leaving the area, they had no legal right to tackle him.

He should have brought 3 or 4 of his biggest, meanest friends. Then when he was walking off, and the Fox Brownshirts decided to tackle him, they could have beat their heads into the concrete, which would have been legal. After all, they would just be defending their friend from a felonious assualt by private citizens who had no legal right to do anything other than yell at him not to come back.

Start beating republicans assess, and they’ll learn something.

Ah, Freedom of Speech for all Speech except the Speech you disagree with, eh? Advocating violence against some chick interviewing someone about their dumb phone….you call the Fox guys Brownshirts then call for the very same tactics be used against them.

Nothing agin ya, Bartlebee, but surely you don’t want people to do what you suggest? Didn’t Voltaire, the Godfather of Liberalism, say something about disagreeing with your opinion but being willing to die for your right to state it?

I have never said anything that can be construed as being in favor of squelching free speech.

Oh, and those 5 GIs that died yesterday, fcuk ‘em. They got a full (well, almost full) paragraph in our “Thinkfast” diary below the fold where it’s viewing is virtually guaranteed to be non-existent. What do they want, a medal?

Anyhow, back to the important stuff. Our sources tell us that since finding jesus in jail, Paris Hilton now claims to be dating him exclusively. Our non-stop coverage begins now…

    Progressive indeed.

P.S. I do not like FOX or watch ANYTHING they broadcast. The free publicity that TP gives them continually is a moral crime.

  47. John Sacks says:

This is typical of a leftwinger nut job. No rule of law, do what ever feels good, freedom of speach except when I don’t agree with it – this video sums up the liberal debate. The guy even looked like a typical liberal – no job, not in school, living off of mom and dad, no sense of productiveness at all. LMFAO.

  48. CD says:

I’m giving it less than an hour before fauxnoise is saying liberals are to blame for the attempted theft.

  52. John Sacks says:

Couldn’t be a Conservative who did this, they are all at work or in school making for a better life or a better world. Only liberals have nothing to do so that they can wait in line for some piece of shit technology because it is hip to do so.

  53. Crump's Brother says:

    FDR,

I’m not sure why I’m bothering with you. You don’t have the intellectual game of the common dog.

Air America offered a debate to Republican candidates in response to Fox’s criticism of Democratic candidates saying no to Fox. They were simply trying to demonstrate that Fox is no more a legitimate news organization than Air America is. They are both opinion pushers. The difference is that Air AMerica doesn’t hide that fact. While Fox continues to promote itself as a legit news source. Which it isn’t.

Now here’s where you call me a commie coward that isn’t informed. And then you can finish it off with a cute little emoticon that makes you look as dumb as you may very well be.

  54. LandSurveyor says:

This thread is important. And this incident is a metaphor.
America is taking it’s country back from FOX, and FOX ain’t going down without a fight.

  55. FDR says:

LandSurveyor thats right , and it because of its high ratings , higher that any leftwingnut news network

  56. Armando Gomez says:

Blame it on Hollywood. Yeah, right.

  57. John Sacks says:

This is another funny thread proving the iodiocy of liberals. “..taking it’s country back from FOX” – now that is funny. Fox New’s audience is not even 10% of the Big 3 Liberal Powerhouses.

  58. FDR says:

LandSurveyor you are important , a perfect example of the left making an attempt at looking intelligent . but please don’t stop trying , its amusing : )

  59. LandSurveyor says:

Oh FDR the only thing you minorities control is wingnut radio. That, too, will soon end when the Democrots complete their sweep. The Lefty audience is distributed and diverse! You know that!

  60. EthioLib says:

  62. kelso says:

Ha! That’s awesome. Too bad he didn’t run faster.

  63. John Sacks says:

There are far more conservatives than liberals out there. If this wasn’t the case, the libtards wouldn’t need the Fairness Doctrine to get their message out into the free market airspace.

  64. Ben Dover says:

Its unfortunate the passerby didn’t shove the microphone down her contempt-filled throat.

Which is well within our legal rights.

  93. BARTLEBEE says:

You were correct till you went overboard with that statement, that is sooo rightwing….we libs don’t condone violence, that is what the rightwing nutz do.

    Comment by Buck Fush — June 29, 2007 @ 11:58 am

    I am not condoning violence.

I am condoning DEFENDING ourselves from violence.

In 1930’s Germany, a group of guys who didn’t have the legal authority to do so, started beating up citizens.

The people, like you are advocating, did nothing. They permitted themselves to be beaten, and they watched, as others were beaten.

And we all know where that went.

All I am saying is if Fox news crews now think they have the legal authority to tackle and illegally restrain private citizens, when in fact, they do not, that private citizens defend the other private citizens, and shove their cameras so far up their assess they’ll be flossing their teeth with film.

They did the same thing to a blogger a little while ago at a hotel in VA. This time it was RNC officials and members of Maccaca’s personal staff.

They didn’t have the authority to do that then, and they don’t now

But no ones doing anything about it. So like most bully’s they’ll just do it more and more. Unless the people begin to slam their heads into the pavement until they figure it out, each and every time they try.

  94. BARTLEBEE says:

Just like passengers on an airline tackling a shoe bomber, so can private citizens jump in and defend other private citizens when right wing pricks (who ONLY do it in numbers) are assaulting them in public.

You have every legal right to stop someone from assaulting a private citizen, and if the people looking on jumped in, and the fox news crew got their asses beat, then they got legally what they deserved for impersonating police officers, which is what they were doing.

  95. BARTLEBEE says:

  108. BARTLEBEE says:

This is no different than the old guy who was getting pickpocketed the other day. A theft was commited and private citizens have every right to subdue the guy until the police arrived.

    Comment by John — June 29, 2007 @ 1:19 pm

No, they don’t. The law makes no provisions for private citizens to restrain or detain other citizens UNLESS a felony is in progress.

Thats the law. I didn’t write it. I just read it. I suggest you do too.

  109. BARTLEBEE says:

Bartlebee – er ah, NOOoooo! Someone like me will never stand by and let violence happen to someone else – not my style. Besides 27 years of kick boxing lets me feel a little more confident in defending myself or others.

    Comment by Buck Fush — June 29, 2007 @ 1:21 pm

2nd DAN here, didn’t feel like mentioning it but glad to see theres more of us out there.

  111. Crump's Brother says:

    Cleaning House at TP,

The nazi quip was a bad attempt at humor. My apologies

I would like to ask however, what is it specifially that has you so worked up?

  112. Bill The Cat says:

Law student bartlebee apparently doesn’t know the whole law. Sad but true. Those mics are expensive — more than $500 so, it isn’t petty theft, it is grand theft and that, mr. bartlebee, is a felony. So is practicing law without a license.

  113. Cleaning House at TP says:

    Crump,

People, mostly trolls, constantly are in violation of the T.O.U. agreement, and when in violation, as it states, you will be deleted.

Just trying to keep us on topic and actually accomplish something that resemble Political Discourse instead of schoolyard tanting and name calling. I’m WAY to old for that.

  114. Jay Randal says:

Post 105 > posting long comments is supposed to be violation of terms of use. Just saying to be consistent in censoring posts.

  115. BARTLEBEE says:

Theft and Battery is not a Felony?

    Comment by John — June 29, 2007 @ 1:25 pm

The value of the mic would determine the degree of the so called theft. Grabbing it out of her hand is not considered battery however.

Battery is what the wimp news crew did when they tackled the guy slamming him to the ground and hitting him.

The guy was wrong. Grabbing her mic was wrong. In most courts it would be deemed simple assault, and possibly petty theft, although most courts would just stick with the simple assault.

The news crew on the other hand if they injured the guy, could be charged with Assault and Battery, which in most states, is a felony.

And if they detained him, not being officers of the court, they could be charged with kidnapping, which is one of the most serious felonies in the United States.

  116. Cleaning House at TP says:

… I’m sorry if you miss bashing CT V_1, The Joker, PRIMVS, etc., as they were the primary offenders…

    This is interesting:

When posting here we apparently agree to not:

“Post any content to the Blog that is unlawful, racist, hateful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, or that intentionally discriminates against or harasses particular individuals or groups.”

    Hmmmm, Thought control?

I understand the desire for some level of civility, but I also understand that ideas that seem devisive, many times end up being right.

So when I say people that believe in a monothisetic form of religion are whack jobs, does that mean I’ve broken rules?

Seems like a slippery slope I wish TP didn’t have to go down.

  122. SickOfTheGOPLies says:

Yeah, they guy was probably out of line for what he did, but damn it felt good to watch him doing it!

  123. piltdown says:

This isn’t news. It’s an advertisement.

How much did Apple pay for this airtime?

  124. BARTLEBEE says:

It would be quite hard to prove theft however, if his intent was merely to shout something into the mic. Theft entails an intent to steal, not grabbing a mic with no intention of keeping it.

A rabid prosecutor might go after it as such, but a jury trial would mean a quick dismissal.

  125. Cleaning House at TP says:

I’m concerened that we are silencing people because we don’t like what they have to say. That gives me chills.

Well then, by all means, WRITE TO TP. That’s all it took for me to do to get INVECTIVE, HATE-FILLED posts (in vioation of TOU) DELETED.

  126. BARTLEBEE says:

So is practicing law without a license.

The story is not the mic snatching but the way Fox handled it. And I’m not talking about the tackling! Illegal or not, I would have done the same if somebody snatched my gear. I’m talking about the anchors. They actually said to cut back to the scene to “make sure everybody is okay” (like someone in the control room wasn’t doing this and it needed to be blasted over live tv) and they even said “clearly people sometimes have disputes with the media.” HUH? How do you know he had a dispute with Fox and wasn’t just some moron whose buddies egged him on “hey dude, go grab the mic from that chick!” But they played it out like they are the responsible adults being unfairly harrassed by Big Bad Liberals. THAT’S what’s newsworthy. A big corporation pretending to be the victim of a huge conspiracy when all it likely was was some dumb college kid prank.

How about the right to Habeas Corpus or the right to due process, how about the right not to be tortured, how about the right to privacy, how about the right to not have our money stolen and handed to your friends at Halliburton, How about the right to elections that are honest and not stolen. Save your phony tears about your cherry picked rights. His only mistake was letting those leakers tackle him.

  171. I, Witnessblue says:

I was right there when it happened. It was more like criminal mischief than any kind of mugging or robbery. He was not trying to steal the mic. He was trying to disrupt the broadcast. He and his wiseass friends were taunting and heckling whatsherface immediately prior to this live shot. They hated FOX news are were openly talking about messing with them. It was totally stupid. After initially being let go, it seemed that someone at FOX called over and asked for him to be arrested. Since he had stupidly lingered in the area, they just scooped him up and drove him off. He should have just gone home when they initially let him go and no one would have pursued him. It was a totally stupid act, followed by supplemental stupidity. But tonight, he’s learning it in the clink, while the rest of us play with our new iPhones. Doofus.

Once they find they have no intelligence because they can not actually discuss in a civilized manner real issues in an ADULT manner, then they will eventually choke on their own venom.

I am a former republican and a former conservative.

If all you conservatives and repugs stand for nowadays is to call people names with no real intelligent basis and no real intelligent way to discuss in a civilized manner important issues, then you better believe that you are in real danger.

Your name-calling marks you and you are easy to spot as an idiot. Also you are now tagged and watched.

    So much for intelligence.

Conservatives have no concept of the meaning, because if they actually could talk in a real adult manner, they would not have posted their IQs in name-bashing on this board.

From a former conservative and former republican who will never, ever go back to your party and many others like me.

Do you know who ValiantVenusGrewFromUranus is? He/she is the biggest hateful coward on this site.

    Reality bubble alert:

“People have disputes with ‘the media’…” “…This guy trying to grab the iPhone.”

Everyone watched the same footage I watched right? This was a guy that spotted a Fox News mike and decided to mess them around. He wasn’t ‘trying to grab the iPhone’ and he wasn’t embroiled in a dispute with ‘the media’ (a Fox news term usually reserved for everyone else; vis ‘The liberal media’). He was deliberately targeting Fox News, presumably because he has the same view of them as most rational people in the country. Such a shame Fox News aren’t willing to let this minor act of protest filter through their reality bubble.

Now this is the way to get stuff done!!! I think everyone who sees Faux News on the street should rip the mic out of the hand of the propaganda person or accidently bump into a camera.

  182. Jim H says:

I found this funny, oh so serious people. Yes, he will pay a fine or spend some time in the pokey. But Fox deserves it. However, I did find it amusing that Fox tried to say he was going after the iPhone. He could have grabbed that easily. He was reaching for the Fox microphone.
