Number of Americans who believe the Iraq war is going badly, according to a new CBS News poll. The disapproval level is a new high, “up from 66 percent just two months ago. Nearly half, 47 percent, say it’s going very badly.”
michael – If you were blogging from a military base in Iraq then you would NOT be a coward so until then you remain the biggest yellow bellied hypocrite ever
as for me , I dont kill people unless they occupy my homeland
A majority oppose the war now.
A majority think the surge has failed.
A majority believe Bush is a failure.
All important issues can be opposed by the majority, but with the repugs in congress holding to their obstructionist tactics, with Cheney continuing to operate as the empirical leader, with Bush stonewalling every inquiry, it doesn’t appear that it matters that most Americans want to end this nightmare.
Anyone who dares to challenge the White House, or (gasp!) report that the public is abandoning Bush is vilified by the right wingnuts as “liberal” and therefore poisonous (in their small minds) to America.
Somewhere, Paul Wolfowitz is laughing his ass off. Where else but America can such unprincipled and immoral men have so much control over power in such high places? All guys like Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Perle, and Tenet have to say is, “Sorry about your kids.”
Bush-Cheney have no concept of the pain of war. They have no understanding of the middle-east. And lastly, if you are not ready to take the pain of the sword in your gut then you have no right to order others to do so and no right to blog for war.
I guess, if 8 soldiers die, instead of 10, that means things are improving. Wonder if the families if tge 8 who died would feel that way.
It should be that leaders of any country, that participates in war, must fight the war between themselves. Just leader to leader, fighting it out. No more armies, no more soldiers and civilians dying.
Maybe more countries would be willing to compromise and talk things over, if that was the case. Though, if it had been Bush and Saddam, we’d be a suburb of Iraq by now, and Bush would be hiding out on some island.
We’re all scared. You potential trolls are hiding because you think there’s still hope. But guys, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll be able to function as a troll is supposed to function. Without mercy. Without compassion. Without remorse. All trolling depends on it.

Pretty obvious that your here as an idiot. BTW, I have devoted my career to working with AIDS patients. 20 years at UCSD and the VA. Do not take me on with gay shit.
More than 30 innocent Afghani civilians got blown to bloody pieces today and close to 100 more maimed and injured. They were mostly women and children. Look out your window at your neighbors scurring about their yards and business. EXACTLY like them.
In Iraq, this EXACT same situation (in regards to casualties) happens more than THREE times EACH AND EVERY DAY, including weekends and holidays.
As this diary purports, the vast majority of Americans want this situation addressed and changed. Currently, per the “anti-war” Dems like Reid, Pelosi, Tough-talk up front and payola in murky motels Murtha, and coward-extraordinare Webb, this isn’t even to be DISCUSSED again until September, when they need money again. (Note: Amazing how everything quieted down once they got their money, more than what was requested by the way, last time.)
The time for talk is over. Either we, the “progressives”, do something real and serious about this now, or someone needs to nuke Washington DC and then every major city in this nation until we no longer have the capability to perform the unchecked murder and rape that we are OPENLY and ARROGANTLY perpetrating upon the world.
This has to end now. We are so deep into evil that we, most everyone here included, treat is now as if it is normal.
Tobey – you miscounted. I didn’t see the Halliburton constituency nor did I see the Rapture-Ready crowd- the ones who see hastening Armageddon as a positive foriegn policy.
From the news yesterday and today it seems terrorism is beginning to spread like wildfire, and once again the president is on vacation. Tony Snow tells us that the security alert level wont be raised and why do you think that is? It would be hard to further justify bushs vacation during yet another alert thats why. This man is a failure and a coward and we have well over a year of this sh*t still to come.
It’s pretty obvious to me that ‘Al Qaeda’ is winning right now.
Take a look at CNN right now. Wall to wall coverage of two clowns who drive a Jeep Cherokee into a glass door in Glasgow – they couldn’t even kill themselves. The kind of amateur ‘wannabe’ terrorism that these ‘Al Qaeda’ franchisees all over are pulling off. And in this case, no worse than an average morning in Baghdad.
And yet? Glasgow airport closed, US on alert, 24 fear-mongering tv coverage…..millions spent chasing phantoms. We’re afraid of our own shadows. I’m guessing we’ll find two second-generation Pakistani-Scots kids with Glasgow accents, plans for a Jeep molotov on their internet cache, alienated as much from their parents as from the country of their birth.
That number is going to be in the mid to high 80’s by general election time…(thanks in part to the ’surge’) at which point Denis Kucinich and Ron Paul aren’t going to seem so crazy anymore and every pro-war candidate (which includes Hillary and Barak and ALL Repugs except Paul) is going to look like a clueless fool.
Just 14% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress.
This 14% Congressional confidence rating is the all-time low for this measure, which Gallup initiated in 1973. The previous low point for Congress was 18% at several points in the period of time 1991 to 1994.
Congress is now nestled at the bottom of the list of Gallup’s annual Confidence in Institutions rankings, along with HMOs. Just 15% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in HMOs. (By way of contrast, 69% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in the military, which tops the list. More on this at galluppoll.com on Thursday).
Generally speaking, Americans have been skeptical about Congress for decades now. But the current 14% confidence rating for Congress is down from 19% last year and is the lowest in Gallup’s history, surpassing the 18% confidence in Congress measured in 1991, 1993 and 1994.
Anything common about 1991, 1993, 1994, and 2007? Oh, right, the Congress was filled with Democrats.
Wait for the shit to hit the fan – in Scotland Alex Salmon is the leader of the Scottish Parliment – he is SNP ( scottish national Party) very smart and completely Anti war in fact the Biggest war critic of Bliar

Tobey- The U.S. arms industry (the military industrial complex) is what Eisenhower warned against. They formulate and provide for the conditions of conflict throughout the world.
We spent much more on defense during his Presidency. Then Bill Clinton happened.
MICHAEL, I guess it doesn’t matter to you that among the 77% of people who do not support the war, you will find a majority of foreign policy experts, retired generals who are free to state their true beliefs, scholars, and people who show signs of brain activity. Whereas, the 23% hardcore dipshits still supporting the Titanic are comprised mostly of bottom feeding comatose followers.
I’m in that 23% and I don’t recognize your description of us. We’re smart, professional people and we support the administration because, well, they are right and you are wrong.
Exactly what the fuck have we accomplished in the war against terror besides making the world less safe, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths, creating more instability in the middle east, helping terrorism recruitment grow exponentially, and allowing our treasure to be plundered by American corporations? Is that how you define success or progress?
Today’s terrorist act reminds us that we are winning.
Winning because we’re not being attacked here in America. That is the definition of winning. Bush has protected the US from attack since the 2001 attack.
Lets hope our friends join us in fighting those who have declared war on us all. Today’s activities should be a warning to all those trying to appease and withdraw from fighting terror. The terrorists are at war with you whether or not you choose to fight back. The terrorists demand that you convert to Islam or die. You have the choice to fight back.
From the dean, thank you for speaking for yourself. The dean of trolls believes that you would need to attach more proof in order to speak for everybody. Your acadummic way of life appears to be no better than the thug life, yo.

The fact that 23 percent of the sheeple believe the war is going well is a testament to the dumbing down of the populace first advocated and then implemented by the Darth Reagan administration. A huge facilitator of that dumbing down is the Faux Noise Network coupled with Rush, Ann, Sean, Michael Savage and other lower life forms. Although more than 330 American kids have died in Iraqnam in the last three months, the lead story on yahoo.com news this morning was that the former astronaut who drove to Orlando to confront her rival did not, as earlier reported, wear a diaper.
Who gives a rat’s rectum?
But that is considered “news.” Is it no wonder that 23 percent think the folly in Iraqnam is going well? Is it any wonder that Bush’s disapproval rating is ONLY 65 percent? We have nobody but ourselves to blame for letting this happen.
By the way, go see SiCKO. I did last night and it was the best $10 I will spend this year.
I have to raise a question: what if 23% of fighting men and women actually on the front lines in Iraq support the war? What would be the typical TP.org response to them?
MUCKDOG, in case you haven’t been paying attention, terrorism has increased since we diverted our attention from the war on terror and invaded Iraq. We had Osama cornered and we let him walk. Your masters don’t want to end terrorism, they want it to grow so that the oil companies, Halliburtons, the Balckwaters, and the likes can continue to rape, plunder, and pillage the poeples of the world.

I see the King of the Kwestion mark is back.
The plan was to free the Iraqis not create terrorists. Remember the propaganda back in 2003? Oppressive leader, regime change, democracy etc etc.
Saddam was a problem, thats been admitted here many times, but his country was secular, Sunnis and Shias married, many Iraqis were educated. This freedom occupation has only helped to grow the terrorist problem, not reduce it. It was Scowcroft , I believe, who who said the war in Iraq will undermine the global war on terror, and it has.
I think the troops should have redeployed to Iraqs borders when Saddam was captured his statue toppled.
77 percent:
Number of Americans who believe the Iraq war is going badly…
Too bad…. Bush has the Supreme court stacked, Black Water available, US internment camps getting ready, EO#51 has been signed to take over, by Bush, in time of crisis and there are rumors of the elimination of the Posse Comitatus Act – that act written after the civil war so the military could no shoot civilians.
DEAN OF TROLLS, you’re obviously oblivious to reality. The military magazines have conducted polls on our troops and roughly a whole 23% support what they’re being asked to do.
Terrorism trouble has showed up just in time to put fear into everyone for the 4th of July holiday. Today is the start of the holiday for many Americans and the attack on an airport in Scotland will scare some to not fly on planes anywhere. Glasgow car bomb attack appears to be a false-flag operation to help Bush. Strange that Bush baby is with his dad today fishing in Maine. We are not supposed to notice that when he is off on vacation then crap happens.
My comment about that Afghanistan mess that everyone here has ignored through false sanctimony and/or a gallactic lack of common sense, needs to be updated.
The DEATH count has already increased to 130. No word on injuries, but this is sounding more and more like a situation where they just annihilated the village so the DEATH count will probably exceed the wounded substantially.
The last line in the current CNN online article is this:
Shah said the attack came after two coalition vehicles were hit with a mine and an ambush Friday afternoon.
For those of you too young to have lived through the abomination called the “Vietnam War”, you may not recognize that language. Let me introduce you to some other language that you should become familiar with.
“In order to save the village, we had to destroy it”.
“We will win the hearts and minds of these people by seeking out and killing the extreme elements of their society.”
“What is wrong with these people? Don’t they understand that we are trying to help them improve their lives?” (this quote from a soldier who had just shot an entire family)
What is it going to take for you to stand up? Will it be before or after that soldier above comes and kills your family?

Its as if the Redcoats thought they were winning the Revolution because none of Washington’s army had managed to attack London.
No modern day President of the United States takes a “vacation” (as in a day AWAY from work anymore). Bush is going to be meeting with Putin in Maine — how many of you assholes do that on your vacation?
So you’re saying that because maybe 23% of our troops support the Iraqi occupation that they should somehow get a free pass for being wrong. Our troops are great, the meanest fighting force on the face of the planet, but they are not infallible. Guess what? There are some bad apples in every bunch.

Feb. 26, New York City: bomb exploded in basement garage of World Trade Center, killing 6 and injuring at least 1,040 others. In 1995, militant Islamist Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and 9 others were convicted of conspiracy charges, and in 1998, Ramzi Yousef, believed to have been the mastermind, was convicted of the bombing. Al-Qaeda involvement is suspected.
1995
April 19, Oklahoma City: car bomb exploded outside federal office building, collapsing wall and floors. 168 people were killed, including 19 children and 1 person who died in rescue effort. Over 220 buildings sustained damage. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols later convicted in the antigovernment plot to avenge the Branch Davidian standoff in Waco, Tex., exactly 2 years earlier. When are the “BIG MARCHES?â€
When are the “ANTIWAR PROTESTS†that have more people than a trio?
What about a love-in who can “SHOW THE LOVEâ€
When is there going to be a national strike?
The progressive movement seems to be a sham when only a few people are willing to think progressively and do any or all of the above. Yesterday someone here said to me, “Strikes are one of the main elements of class warfare. Who exactly are we striking against? Wouldn’t that be workers striking against their employers?†This idiot has his head unscrewed. Unfair taxation is a weapon of the Plutocrats along with runaway national debt. Practicing our 1st Amendment right to protest and address the government with our grievances is essential to our liberty.
Some people here despise liberty enough that they would claim that a national strike would be (some individual said this) “an insurgency.†Unreal, can you imagine the depravity needed to make such a claim? The 1st Amendment allows protest. If 100,000,000 people march on DC that is fine but the USA is large enough and energy prices so high that many citizens that may want to attend will not be able to afford the trip. Out of those 100,000,000 people 100% of them who work would need to take the day off in order to go to the protest.
Some people here are actually calling for more taxes rather than abolishing the problem called “The Federal Reserve.†The nation implemented a “Personal Income Tax†in WW1 and then started collecting said tax during WW2. How is it that Americans managed to survive from 1776 to around 1913 without a personal income tax? How did all of those governmental buildings get built? None of the money collected by personal income taxes pays for anything the people use. Guess what that money (PIT) is used for?
The progressive movement is not a movement at all. Pure diatribe, apathy and hate and no end in sight. It almost seems like people do blogging like this to create the illusion that they want the war to end, etc. but in reality they just want the flakin Iraq oil too. I could be wrong and I hope I’m wrong and the people choose the 1st Amendment so that the Government Officials are given one last chance to turn this around. So far this is just a lot of HOT AIR

FDR- If you backtrack your chronologly of events you will see that they coincide with our election time frames.
It is absolutely imperative to those who wish to overthrow our way of life and our Constiitution that they instill fear. That fear has translated into restrictions of liberties or legal protections under the Constitution.
That is the Jihadist winning.

m12 – you really do need to go back to troll school. You are failing miserably. That was the talking point last week you fool. What’s the matter with you, short attention span?
Besides, last I checked there were lots of Republics still in Congress. They would be very happy to hear that Congress was now 100% Democratic. That would require a lot of people to switch parties.
But, that’s a little too much information for your pea brain. So, continue on making a fool out of yourself.
The trolls could win this debate quickly and simply by demonstrating that things are going well in Iraq. However, the trolls can not do so:
1. Violence: The overall level of violence in Iraq has remained relatively unchanged. The location of the violence has moved to the rural areas, norther Kurdish areas and the South.
a. The trolls will argue that violence is not the real measure of success. Sorry trolls. The whole point of government and wars of “liberation” is to provide a peaceful environment for the population.
b. We have had nearly five years to have made some substantive progress in this area. Yet no substantive progress was made. Face it, a competent leadership would never have let chaos take root in the first place (remember Rumsy watching the looting and doing nothin about it saying that some people will misuse their freedom). A competent leadership would have ensured that Iraq’s infrastructure was promptly addressed. A competent leadership would not have de-Baathisized the country and disbanded the army..
c. We constantly denied the insurgency and then the civil war existed making enemies of the insurgent sectarian groups who then turned to Iran and Al Quaeda for support.
2. Democracy: The Iraqi political system is fragmented and in a state of civil war. Do the trolls ever watch the groups who have left this government? There is no effective government in this country. It is a failed state and not the unrealistic dream when Bush declared success after the day of the purple fingers.
3. Quality of life:
a. Economic: High unemployment. Virtualy nonexistent oil production. Flight of the professional and educated classes. How many refugees (1-2 million in a country of 20 million).
b. Infrastructure: Schools, electric production, clean water, road construction, health care facilities all significantly worse than pre-war levels.
c. Health statistics: soaring adult and child death rates. Increased disease and hunger.
d. Iraqi morale: A significant majority believe things are and will be getting worse. A majority believes that the US should leave within a year. A majority believes that the US is making things worse.
Could have been different with competent US leadership that would have used local Iraqi’s as a labor source to build less elaborate infrastructure as wll as providing security during reconstruction. Competent leadership would have realized that this would have employed the Iraqi army, provided valuable economic growth, given the Iraqi’s a sense of ownership in the improvements (more likely to turn in those insurgents attempting to attack them) and provided immediate quality of life benefits.
Now trolls – what are your metrics for success? All I hear is that there can be no measure for success because that omniscient, omnipotent , shadowy enemy will make sure that the numbers come out wrong. Sorry, but after a period of combat and diplomacy lasting longer than WWII, we should be seeing a trend in the right direction.
“If anyone attempts to undo what we have accomplished in the last few years against terrorism, then we are doomed!

Very well said. It is as if Bush has looked to Tennyson for inspiration: “into the valley of death rode the 600″ only in this case it is the 160,000 who are riding to their deaths. These needless and unnecessary deaths of American military personnel remind me of my neighbor berating me for twenty minutes last week for not supporting the troops, despite the fact that I had attempted to point out to her that I do not support their mission of brutalizing and terrorizing the Iraqi people and that the best way of supporting them is to remove them from that abattoir as quickly and as rapidly as possible. It was rather surprising that she managed to restrain herself from labeling me a traitor.
But when these super Americans become caught up in their patriotic fervor, it is as if they have reached a high or a plateau from which they have no desire to come down. Facts, reason, logic are cast away in favor of nationalistic zealotry from which no degree of persuasive argument can ever be allowed to pierce their patriotic armor.

Oh great radical that has figured out what is wrong with the progressive movement and has all the answers,
You keep calling for a general strike. Could you tell us what concrete steps you are taking to make that happen? Surely, you don’t think coming here and posting a call for a general strike will make it happen. You must be involved with some organization. Or are you attempting to initiate a national, general strike on your own?
BTW, you complained that taxation was bad and would lead to class warfare. I pointed out that a strike is typically regarded as class warfare.
You’re a walking contradiction. You come here pretending to be smarter than all of the progressive movement and with the same aims. In fact, all you’re doing is acting like Steve Forbes who wants to restructure the tax system as if that will solve all of our problems. And are you in favor of Bush’s tax cuts for the rich?
Polls mean nothing to the White House. As Bush gives speeches he says what Americans want as it is in his mind. He doesn’t look at poll numbers. Now President Cheney laughs at Americans as he knows they are just followers and will do nothing. That’s why his mission is successful. Karl Rove is busy setting up the one party system. The Supreme Court is now in place to dismantle Civil Rights, Woman’s Rights and Voting Rights. Small set back in the immigration bill, but no problem. The Supreme Court will bring back the 1950’s and have minorities on chain gangs to do the field work, thereby not needing the immigrates. Look right now the immigrates get 3 dollars an hour. Having minorities do the same job for 1 dollar as they do their kill time. Thanks to Gitmo, minorities can be put in jail without being charged and stay for life. Things are going great and soon President Cheney’s mission will be completed. All this was done in 6 years with the help of the GOP, Media, Journalist and others who support the Dictator. Even military families who has lost love ones have supported President Cheney plan. Now that most of the truth is out about the illegal invasion of Iraq and how Bush out right lied to the American people. They still support what he wants to do as the plan is for all 160,000 soldiers in Iraq are to die in General Pace’s 10 year plan. At lease all the military families will know that their lost isn’t the only one. NBC showed a Mother of a dead soldier who said she didn’t want her son’s death to mean nothing and she wanted the troops to stay in Iraq until the mission was completed no matter what it took. Now she knows the mission was a lie but her pain and lost can only be relieved by staying the course. She supports the puppet Bush and believes every word he says even knowing he’s lying.

Actually, I’m an atheist so you couldn’t classify me as Islamic. Also, I am more partial to Trotsky than I am to Stalin.
If you knew what these meant, you’d know that Stalinism and Islam are radically different ideas. Why don’t you pick two terms that are actually similar like Christian-Intolerent?
Christian-Barbarism – The idea that the Christian God is the only God and that He says it’s ok to kill entire non-Christian cultures and not have to respect anybody that doesn’t believe in this God.

So, Shane you don’t see the correlation? Maybe you’re too drunk? Progressives also remind me of smokers at this point. You all keep on kidding yourselves about how your smoking is no problem and you can quit if it gets bad. Then the REAL ID ACT stops you from being able to buy smokes and you want to blame someone when you could have at least protested but instead you sat around smoking and drinking too! Am I the only one here that sees that correlation?
By the way that is not meant to be offensive to drunken smokers or smoking drunkards! I’m pointing out that progressives act like addicts in many ways and do nothing but post useless diatribe. Am I the only one that sees the correlation?

If 77% of Americans disapprove of the war in Iraq, now could be the time to introduce another way to start impeachment proceedings by citizens, thus bypassing the reluctance and downright ignorance of our representatives. According to the link below, this procedure was successful in the 1830 impeachment of a federal judge.

So Mr. President and The Joker – Well, I guess you could call me an “apologist for Muslims” because I don’t paint all Muslims with the wide brush that you paint them. There are good Muslims and bad Muslims, just like there are good Americans and bad Americans and good Christians and bad Christians. If someone does something wrong, I will condemn them for their wrong deed. I will not condemn everyone who shares their religion or their country for the wrong deed that one person or a group of people do.
I love it that you all call your selves christians. I will guarantee you that there IS NOT a place in heaven waiting for you. On the other hand, THERE IS a special place in hell waiting for all you trolls and for the Bush Crime Family. Imagine how much fun you will all have being able to gripe for eternity about how those “libtards” look back this country and spoiled all your careful plans.
Recently I took on the persona of Dot (Animaniacs) on the WAPO site and I remembered Pinky and the Brain. I am going to start calling Bush “Brain” and not because he has one but because he is just like Brain “I want to take over the world”, and Bush is having about the same amount of success as Brain has.
“Warren Buffet pays 17% in taxes. The working class person ends up with nearly 41% of his income taxed when it’s said and done.”
And then there are all those stellar rich Americans who pay nothing in income tax because they become a corporation and incorporate in the Caymen Islands. There is one house in the Caymen Islands that is the “home” of 14,000 corporations. And they all do that so that they don’t have to pay income taxes. So m12, do you think that is OK? Do you think it is OK for Haliburton to move to Duabi so that they will no longer have to pay income taxes on the billions they are scamming through their no-bid contracts with the Bush Crime Family?
I asked this question below. I would like an answer.

So m12, do you think that is OK? Do you think it is OK for Haliburton to move to Duabi so that they will no longer have to pay income taxes on the billions they are scamming through their no-bid contracts with the Bush Crime Family?

As U.S. troops battle to retake Baghdad and surrounding areas, the government is reported to have lost its control of Basra where almost all of the country’s oil exports originate. The city, according to well-placed sources, is under the hegemony of militias who do not run its streets only but have imposed levies and taxes on oil output. “It may be too late for Prime Minister Nouri al-Naliki to restore control of Basra,†one source working for Iraqi intelligence said. The sources, who all spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, point to the growing Iranian influence in Basra and most of southern Iraq. The loss of Basra to Shiite militias is a blow to current U.S. military operations mainly directed against Sunni rebels and elements of al-Qaeda group in the country. The four-month long operations in which tens of thousands of U.S. marines are involved have foundered due to tough resistance from various Iraqi groups particularly those linked to al-Qaeda. British troops in Basra are almost powerless as their previous military tactics to retake control of the city have all but backfired.
Number of Americans who believe the Iraq war is going badly, according to a new CBS News poll. The disapproval level is a new high, “up from 66 percent just two months ago. Nearly half, 47 percent, say it’s going very badly.â€
Oh my God! Let’s pull out now! I’m sure you 77% have been trained in military operations and know what’s best for this country! I’m banking on the wise 23%
The situation in Iraq is grave and deteriorating. Violence is increasing in scope and lethality. It is fed by a Sunni Arab insurgency, Shiite militias and death squads, al Qaeda, and widespread criminality. Sectarian conflict is the principal challenge to stability. The Iraqi people have a democratically elected government, yet it is not adequately advancing national reconciliation, providing basic security, or delivering essential services. Pessimism is pervasive. If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences could be severe. A slide toward chaos could trigger the collapse of Iraq’s government and a humanitarian catastrophe. Neighboring countries could intervene. Sunni-Shia clashes could spread. Al Qaeda could win a propaganda victory and expand its base of operations. The global standing of the United States could be diminished. Americans could become more polarized.
Attacks against U.S., Coalition, and Iraqi security forces are persistent and growing. October 2006 was the deadliest month for U.S. forces since January 2005, with 102 Americans killed.
Total attacks in October 2006 averaged 180 per day, up from 70 per day in January 2006. Daily attacks against Iraqi security forces in October were more than double the level in January.
Attacks against civilians in October were four times higher than in January. Some 3,000 Iraqi civilians are killed every month.
Sources of Violence Violence is increasing in scope, complexity, and lethality. There are multiple sources of violence in Iraq: the Sunni Arab insurgency, al Qaeda and affiliated jihadist groups, Shiite
militias and death squads, and organized criminality. Sectarian violence—particularly in and around Baghdad—has become the principal challenge to stability.
Sectarian violence causes the largest number of Iraqi civilian casualties. Iraq is in the grip of a deadly cycle: Sunni insurgent attacks spark large-scale Shia reprisals, and vice versa. Groups
of Iraqis are often found bound and executed, their bodies dumped in rivers or fields. The perception of unchecked violence emboldens militias, shakes confidence in the government, and leads Iraqis to flee to places where their sect is the majority and where they feel they are in less danger. In some parts of Iraq—notably in Baghdad—sectarian cleansing is taking place. The United Nations estimates that 1.6 million are displaced within Iraq, and up to 1.8 million Iraqis
have fled the country.
The state of the Iraqi police is substantially worse than that of the Iraqi Army. The Iraqi Police Service currently numbers roughly 135,000 and is responsible for local policing. It has neither the training nor legal authority to conduct criminal investigations, nor the firepower to take on organized crime, insurgents, or militias. The Iraqi National Police numbers roughly 25,000 and its officers have been trained in counterinsurgency operations, not police work. The Border
Enforcement Department numbers roughly 28,000.
Iraqi police cannot control crime, and they routinely engage in sectarian violence, including the unnecessary detention, torture, and targeted execution of Sunni Arab civilians. The police are organized under the Ministry of the Interior, which is confronted by corruption and militia infiltration and lacks control over police in the provinces. The United States and the Iraqi government recognize the importance of reform. The current Minister of the Interior has called for purging militia members and criminals from the police. But he has little police experience or base of support. There is no clear Iraqi or U.S. agreement on the character and mission of the police. U.S. authorities do not know with precision the composition and membership of the various police forces, nor the disposition of their funds and equipment. There are ample reports of Iraqi police officers participating in training in order to obtain a weapon, uniform, and ammunition for use in sectarian violence.

“You have no intention of taking me seriously …”
No, absolutely not. Your idea of a general strike is just weird. If you could provide any kind of a strategy (i.e. engaging labor unions) you might gain some respect. But I asked for specifics on what you’ve suggested and you provided absolutely none. That just shows you are all talk.
“Yes you’re a provocateur.”

“We post on many blogs though this is my first experience on a “progressive†blog and frankly it does not look good!”

Vinaigrette-Judas,
That part of your message is THE ONLY FACT you have and you made it conditional by putting an “IF†at the end of that fact. You can’t change facts by including double entendre in your idiotic messages Judas. You never asked me if I had gone to protests you asked how I would go about creating a nationwide general strike to bolster the will of the people over our representative democracy. Can’t you read that progressives like you are worthless to any causes? Originally, I operated under the assumption that progressives would be the “get it done people†or the “make it happen people†but three or four weeks have opened my eyes to the truth that progressives suck. So, now I only point out the reality that your part of a movement alright, a bowl movement.
The reason my posts annoy the “hell†out of you (as you so coined) is due to several other facts that you forgot about. For starters you are an agent provocateur and that makes you the equivalent of a little boy who likes to torture puppies and kittens. After all you admitted your position several times since you are only here to fluck with me. Another reason that my posts annoy you is that they challenge your positions. One of your positions is that a carbon tax will help reduce global warming. Aside from the obvious problems with such a thing, money is no replacement for rationing except to feed the tank of your greed. It isn’t that I’m right and you’re wrong since the truth is money can never buy love or happiness.
Finally, what has you most perturbed about my presence here is when I explained to you an easy way to reduce carbon emissions. Let’s review this; you believe that the carbon atoms in the air come from the things that people do like operate cars. You believe that hybrid cars will help to reduce the amount of carbon atoms in the air. Now on the other hand I believe that population overshoot has out stepped the available resources to the population and no matter what you say or do our fate will be the same as that of the St. Matthew Island reindeer herd or the fate of the original settlers of Easter Island.
Compound population overshoot with something called “peak-everything†and the truth rings out like freedom. Too many people, applying too much demand, degrade and ultimately poison the systems that contain the excessive demand. As you attempt to spin that fact like an addict you suggest hyper efficiency cars and such but never address the underlying or root cause of all the problems: our physical existence here in the billions burning the energy of your offspring.
I believe that if you were honest you would completely rethink your stance and realize that there are only a few choices and frankly they all suck. We can’t “build†or “grow†our way out of resource depletion and we can’t sequester carbon while destroying oceans and cutting down trees. Henry Kissinger labeled us all as “Useless Eaters†and while I hate labels he is correct. Our lives have become meaningless and even silly and that should be of no surprise to anyone.
You wish to cut carbon through taxation. This sends shivers up and down my spine since I intuitively realize your purpose even though you may not. You don’t want to ration fossil fuel since you will have to do with less energy. Carbon taxation’s purpose is to foster something called “demand destruction†by hook or by crook the wealthy will increase the energy pool available to them while burdening everybody else with debt and diminishing expensive energy. Driving hybrids is not the same as conservation or cessation.
So, in the spirit of humanity if you sacrifice the lives of your family and yourself Vinnie, you would reduce emissions (only fractionally) and fractionally reduce resource demand thusly adding a fraction of a nanosecond to humanities TTL. As I stated on the thread you bookmarked you are looking for the best of both worlds Vinnie. You want to have your cake and eat it too. You want to continue to use oil and at the same time attempt to limit everyone else’s use of oil and make the determining factor $$$$MONEY$$$$. Not quantity based rationing and conservation leading to cessation but demand destruction via $$$$MONEY$$$$.
Now, go on and blow it out of your exhaust pipe since the GREEN you are about is $$$$$. All one needs to do is follow the money to realize that you are like I said an agent provocateur. You have been defending the oil companies, factories, corporations and the plutocrats the whole time and the sick truth is that you may not even realize it. You are part of a pyramid scheme and that isn’t all that progressive.
If you were sincere about pollution reduction you would want rationing and conservation leading to cessation. Since you are insincere, load your family and yourself in a car and drive off a cliff and GFY
Why do you put everything in bold? Do you really think your post is so important the whole thing must stand out? Looks like one of those long rants that just it not worth reading.

June 30th, 2007 at 2:32 pmAnyone who dares to challenge the White House, or (gasp!) report that the public is abandoning Bush is vilified by the right wingnuts as “liberal” and therefore poisonous (in their small minds) to America.
Somewhere, Paul Wolfowitz is laughing his ass off. Where else but America can such unprincipled and immoral men have so much control over power in such high places? All guys like Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Perle, and Tenet have to say is, “Sorry about your kids.”

June 30th, 2007 at 2:44 pmI guess, if 8 soldiers die, instead of 10, that means things are improving. Wonder if the families if tge 8 who died would feel that way.
It should be that leaders of any country, that participates in war, must fight the war between themselves. Just leader to leader, fighting it out. No more armies, no more soldiers and civilians dying.
June 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pmMaybe more countries would be willing to compromise and talk things over, if that was the case. Though, if it had been Bush and Saddam, we’d be a suburb of Iraq by now, and Bush would be hiding out on some island.
Just a few notes.
We’re all scared. You potential trolls are hiding because you think there’s still hope. But guys, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. June 30th, 2007 at 3:21 pmMore than 30 innocent Afghani civilians got blown to bloody pieces today and close to 100 more maimed and injured.

June 30th, 2007 at 3:28 pmIt’s pretty obvious to me that ‘Al Qaeda’ is winning right now.

June 30th, 2007 at 3:44 pmDemocratic Congress less popular than HMOs….
http://blogs.usatoday.com/gallup/2007/06/what_do_hmos_an.html

June 30th, 2007 at 4:00 pmThe fact that 23 percent of the sheeple believe the war is going well is a testament to the dumbing down of the populace first advocated and then implemented by the Darth Reagan administration.

This freedom occupation has only helped to grow the terrorist problem, not reduce it. It was Scowcroft , I believe, who who said the war in Iraq will undermine the global war on terror, and it has.

June 30th, 2007 at 4:07 pmMy comment about that Afghanistan mess that everyone here has ignored through false sanctimony and/or a gallactic lack of common sense, needs to be updated.

Otherwise a good response, Mr. Dantheman.

June 30th, 2007 at 4:30 pmWhen are the “BIG MARCHES?â€

Besides, last I checked there were lots of Republics still in Congress. They would be very happy to hear that Congress was now 100% Democratic. That would require a lot of people to switch parties.
But, that’s a little too much information for your pea brain. So, continue on making a fool out of yourself.
June 30th, 2007 at 5:12 pmThe trolls could win this debate quickly and simply by demonstrating that things are going well in Iraq.

June 30th, 2007 at 5:14 pmTobey Tall, Jay Randal, Leftcoast-
Very well said.

June 30th, 2007 at 5:25 pmPolls mean nothing to the White House.

June 30th, 2007 at 8:29 pm“Warren Buffet pays 17% in taxes.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:34 pmOnion Rings,

“You keep calling for a general strike. Could you tell us what concrete steps you are taking to make that happen? Surely, you don’t think coming here and posting a call for a general strike will make it happen. You must be involved with some organization. Or are you attempting to initiate a national, general strike on your own?”
June 30th, 2007 at 9:32 pmWarren Buffet pays 17% in taxes. The working class person ends up with nearly 41% of his income taxed when it’s said and done.
Even if your numbers are true, Warren Buffet’s 17% outdoes the working man’s 41%.
June 30th, 2007 at 9:59 pmWell, since politicians only look at polls before making a decision, maybe this one will get them off their arse and withdraw the troops.
June 30th, 2007 at 10:00 pmAnd then there are all those stellar rich Americans who pay nothing in income tax because they become a corporation and incorporate in the Caymen Islands.

July 1st, 2007 at 12:26 amAs U.S. troops battle to retake Baghdad and surrounding areas, the government is reported to have lost its control of Basra where almost all of the country’s oil exports originate.

July 1st, 2007 at 12:44 amThe situation in Iraq is grave and deteriorating.
Groups
July 1st, 2007 at 12:48 amof Iraqis are often found bound and executed, their bodies dumped in rivers or fields.
“and up to 1.8 million Iraqis
have fled the country.
Comment by st — July 1, 2007″
What’s your point?
July 1st, 2007 at 12:50 amThe state of the Iraqi police is substantially worse than that of the Iraqi Army.

July 1st, 2007 at 2:26 amFreedom “My words are so important they must be bolded” rings,
As usual, you talk a lot but don’t say much of anything coherent.
You and your posts annoy the hell out of me. I’m responding with my opinions. How does that make me different from the hundreds of other people who post here.
“My friends and I write lots and lots of letters.”
First, I sincerely doubt you have any friends. Secondly, letter writing and posting on message boards seems to be the extent of your involvement in politics. I’d say you’re ideally experienced to lead a national, general strike.
“We post on many blogs though this is my first experience on a “progressive†blog and frankly it does not look good!”
I’ll gladly concede that the whole “progressive” movement is a lost cause if you would leave and find somewhere else to go.
July 1st, 2007 at 2:37 amLet’s see, there are 11% who favor an additon to troops. Then there are 22% percent who say things are going swimmingly. I’m happy to report this was not our best and brightest who replied to this poll. Rumor has is that this polling group just came out of shawn inshannity hoedown.
July 1st, 2007 at 3:22 amvinnie…write a couple more incoherent sentences…your on a roll.

July 1st, 2007 at 9:21 amWhy do you put everything in bold? Do you really think your post is so important the whole thing must stand out? Looks like one of those long rants that just it not worth reading.
Back to the topic. Funny that the war is still more popular than the new congress. And still Pelosi blames everyone else
