‘Best Supreme Court term ever’ for big business.

The New York Times reports today, “The court’s overall approach to business cases left many in the business community gleeful. ‘It’s our best Supreme Court term ever,’ said Robin S. Conrad, executive vice president of the National Chamber Litigation Center, which handles Supreme Court cases for the United States Chamber of Commerce.”

This is true, because Bush has been able to appoint activist judges. He has appointed judges who will favor corporations (because of their corporate background) and anything that can be determined due to the religion of the justices (like abortion). Bush always said that he didn’t want “activist” judges on the Supreme court. What he meant by “activist” is any judge who disagrees with the Republic’s agendas. Well, he has been successful. We now have activist judges on the Supreme court who make decisions based on their own personal and religious philosophies. I don’t think that was what the founding fathers had in mind when they created the Supreme court. I think it is time to do away with lifetime appointments of Supreme Court justices.

  2. Jake says:

Actually, Bush appointed Justices with JUDICIAL RESTRAINT who are reigning in all the activism. There’s a difference (Alito also has ZERO “corporate background” having first served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and then, after Yale law school, as a judicial aw clerk, Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant to the Solicitor General, Deputy Assistant to Attorney General, United States Attorney, and then Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit). At least get your fact straight.

    You are scum Jake

In other words, due process of law is being followed. What a shame!

  5. Jay Randal says:

Yes, but the Democrat Senators who confirmed Roberts and Alito said they promised to not be far-right Bush fascists. They lied apparently!

  6. Jake says:

m12 (and anyone else who wants to confirm I am not lying bout Alito), please look at his biography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Alito#Career

KICK ALL DEMOCRATIC SENATORS WHO VOTED TO CONFIRM TO THE CURB!!

  8. Jake says:

22 Democrats voted in favor of Chief Justice Roberts’ confirmation — including frequent critics of the administration’s judicial picks, such as Vermont’s Patrick Leahy and Wisconsin Russ Feingold — so too did Vermont Independent Jim Jeffords, who left the GOP caucus in 2001 to work with the Democrats. In addition to Byrd, Leahy and Feingold, Democrats who voted to confirm Roberts included Montana’s Max Baucus, West Virginia’s Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, New Mexico’s Jeff Bingaman, Delaware’s Tom Carper, North Dakota’s Kent Conrad and Kent Conrad, Connecticut’s Chris Dodd, South Dakota’s Tim Johnson, Wisconsin’s Herb Kohl, Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu, Michigan’s Carl Levin, Arkansas’s Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, Washington’s Patty Murray, Florida’s Bill Nelson, Nebraska’s Ben Nelson, Arkansas’s Mark Pryor, Colorado’s Ken Salazar and Oregon’s Ron Wyden.

    Big business is happy!

    Ordinary Americans are screwed.

  10. MCMetal says:

Assholito’s conformation only included 3 Dems : Byrd , Johnson , and Nelson from Nebraska.

Only 1 Republican voted nay : Chaffee.

Even if the 3 Dems (had they voted Nay) , Assholito still would have been confirmed by the horseshit GOP (the vote tally was 58-42).

This SCOTUS is the least intellectual and worst in US history ; by a wide margin.

  11. Jake says:

Back to Chief Justice Roberts’ confirmation, this morning on “Meet the Press” Senator Leahy REFUSED to say he regretted his vote.

    KICK LEAHY TO THE CURB!!

Here’s Herr Kilpatrick’s (no liberal, he) take.

Of course, Kilpatrick dates back to the era when the conservative answer to “what is 1 + 1″ was “2″, rather than whatever Dick Cheney says it is.

Every decision they have made this term has been either based on their religious convictions (abortion) or their corporate mentality (giving corporations free rein to screw “we the people”.

I know that is a lot for your pea brain to assimilate, but do give it a try.

  18. Katie says:

michael – go away. Your version of intelligent discourse is to ask everyone here “why” or “prove it”. You sound just like a 7 year old.

  20. Jason M. Hendler says:

SCOTUS has handed down some very good rulings:

Partial Birth Abortion ban upheld, reinforcing what we already knew, that the Congress is capable of legislating with regard to health issues.

Rolling back of affirmative action policies that use race as the ONLY means of determining where someone goes to school. If it is obvious that segregation is wrong, then race based integration is equally obviously wrong.

SCOTUS will stay strict constructionist for many many years, regardless of who is president and controls the senate, so we can continue to enjoy these types of rulings for a good long time.

  24. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #22, bloodie dix,

You reap what you sow. The Democrats lost sight of their progress on issues for women and race, and went balls out tearing down Christians and trying to force gay marriage on the voting public. As a result, the Christians, who had already mobilized on the abortion issue, were given an even more effective wedge issue (judicial activism coupled with gay marriage) to club the Dems with. That perfect storm carried the Reps into power and held it long enough to change the makeup of SCOTUS for years to come.

Now, leading Dem candidates are trying to bolster their Christian bonifides, and hiding their views on gay marriage. Moreover, I’ve yet to hear a Dem candidate insist that partial birth abortion be reinstated. You’ve lost ground because you over-reached.

“Yes, but the Democrat Senators who confirmed Roberts and Alito said they promised to not be far-right Bush fascists. They lied apparently!”

Hey dummy, the “fascism” came from the left wing of the court, in the form of government control over political speech and the use of an Orwellian legal interpretation to distort the meaning of “equal protection” to require race- and gender-based discrimination.

Roberts and Alito just remedied those outrageous assaults on the Bill of Rights.
