Appeals court refuses to delay Libby’s prison term.

A U.S. appeals court ruled today that Scooter Libby “cannot delay serving his 2 1/2-year prison sentence while he appeals his perjury conviction,” ruling that he has not shown that his appeal “raises a substantial question.” A federal judge ruled last month that Libby must report to prison in six to eight weeks.

UPDATE: Christy Hardin Smith at Firedoglake has the judge’s order.

Let’s take bets on how long Scooter will be in prison before he starts to squeal?

Good for you. It’s not easier to think for yourself, but most people find that it beats the consequences of the alternatives…

cannot delay serving his 2 1/2-year prison sentence — Nor should he.
Of course, he can always claim he’s breaking down and needs to be confined to Paris Hilton’s pad.

    #4, UB,

Reminds me of Ned Beatty in ‘Deliverance’…ugh, sorry.

I’ll bet 2 days in the slammer & he’ll squeal like the pig he is.

    Bus, meet Scooter.

That is, unless Big Dick gets that FEMA trailer & parks outside his cell window. With that kind of moral support, who knows, he might make it a whole week.

    “KY jelly.”

    Not funny!!!

Let’s please refrain from the glorification, or the outright condoning of prison rape. It is wrong and not funny!

So is what Libby did ; and neither he nor anyone in this horseshit administration has shown 1 ounce of remorse , regret or contrition .

Compassion should be reserved for those who truly are worthy/deserving of it …….

  14. Zooey says:

Wow. Rape jokes from our very own. That’s really disappointing.
I thought we were better than Jake.

  15. canardtahiti says:

Once again, all this nonsense about Libby’s risk of rape in prison is absurd. He is cheney’s puppy, and will be protected at all times by planted “inmates” who will serve concurrently with him for the sole purpose of saving his ass. Got that. AIPAC’s neocons protect each other. Libby may get monumentally bored in prison, but he will not get raped or hastled or inconvenienced beyond that boredom. Hell, he will use the time to write a self-serving book, like the rest of them.

“Compassion should be reserved for those who truly are worthy/deserving of it”

    No!

Compassion is for all. I hope Libby does his time, and thinks hard about his crime. But to wish further crimes on him, makes us no better than Libby.

  19. nanlichi says:

OK Crump’s Bro, more sensitivity is called for, but can I still hope that someone will rip Bush’s eyes out and skull f*ck him?

    nanlichi,

“but can I still hope that someone will rip Bush’s eyes out and skull f*ck him?”

Anyone can say whatever they want, but I also have the right to call them out for saying something I think is indefensible. I’m not trying to silence to anyone. I just think they should not say not.

Say what you want about the Pres. I hope he sees justice as well, but I don’t hope for the skull f*ck action your calling for.

  26. shane says:

No rape joke, but I hope we hear the sucking sound of Scooter’s soul leaving his body. Since he still hasn’t admitted guilt or show any contrition. And if he had a little Paris style, severe panic attack style meltdown, well that would be just fine.

  27. shane says:

No trolls, did they have to run off to get their counter point from Rove? Or are they just scared? Maybe KKKarls too upset to send out talking points after this news.

  29. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

In other words, the “I forgot” excuse defense didn’t fly by these judges either, LOL

  34. VerbalKint says:

Libby isn’t going to be raped in prison. In a just world no one should be raped in prison, even bad guys (many prison rape victims are non-violent offenders who are predated on simply because they are most vulnerable within the prison population). But it won’t be a cakewalk, either, even in a minimum security federal prison. He will be deprived of his freedom and stripped of all privileges he enjoys today. He will be utterly miserable.

Libby will have to report to prison in the next month or so. That is when things get interesting.

  39. Jackie says:

This shows just how smart Libby and his team of lawyers are as Attorneys. The last chance for the stay out of jail card is with the Supreme Court. I know loyal supporters like Roberts, Alito, Clarence and the other two would have given a 5-4 vote for Brother Libby. To bad the Supreme Court is gone until Sept.
Libby last chance for freedom is Bush. Libby and his team should meet with Daddy Bush to ask for the pardon. Putin knows George W. needs his Daddy to sit in to help him. Wells could even have some of Barbara’s baked cookies. Look if baby Bush pardons Libby I say pardon all the other loyal GOP supporters too. Now that molesting children is legal in the United States thanks to the Attorney General and lying under oath isn’t a crime. Libby has a point as to his freedom.
The Texas guards are allowed to continue to rape children with the blessings of the White House and DOJ. Fingers Foley is up dating his government computer for more kids to rape. Child sex molesters as not jail but just told don’t do it again ok. John Mark Karr is on the loss and stalking kids as we speak. Why not let Libby go free and join the other criminals who have the full support of the White House. Jack Abramoff, Duke Cunningham, Ney, Skilling and the Hammer are all waiting to see if Daddy Bush gives baby Bush the ok to free the criminal GOP.

    C’mon

What is with you people ?

Do any of you believe that Libby is being sent somewhere that the Aryan Brotherhood is locked away in ?

Or serial killers like Bundy , Gehn and Dahmer ?

I know he isn’t ; that’s why all these comments on rape are a moot point , as is anyone making fun of Libby………..

  41. j swift says:

Rape jokes are old and really aren’t funny. Besides, I seriously doubt Scooter is headed to a hard core prison. It will probably be some minimum security place. You know the kind of place where you prove you’re a bad ass by giving someone a beat down with your tennis racket.

Yeah some people won’t bother to look at what was being responded to and assume things. Ah the old can take a horse to water but can’t make them think. For the slow ones, I’ll break it down.

    SGT Higgins said:
Of course, he can always claim he’s breaking down and needs to be confined to Paris Hilton’s pad.
    Which I equated to torture.

This of course makes me a Neocon, Republican, supporter of torture etc.

My apologies to anyone who didn’t get my poor attempt at humor in associating spending any time with Paris Hilton as torture.

That’s not the point, MCMetal. The point is that some people here have actual experience with rape, and don’t happen to appreciate the humor or wishing such a thing on another person — no matter who they are.

  45. marcus robinson says:

Gereat, now place him in a cell with one of those fat hairy horny pricks and lets see how long he protects Cheney and Bush. Scooter will be man meat and passed around for a pack of smokes.

I don’t know , because I don’t speak from any type of “experience” , nor do I claim any type of expertise in the area.

But from what Chimpy , Cheney , Rove , Libby and Co have done and continue to do to America and its resources ; maybe people are wishing rape on those that have raped America , out of poetic justice ?

To be progressive you can’t have a twisted sense of humor? I fail to see who is being offended here. Scooter? He made his bed and is lying in it, so-to-speak. He’s fair game. Would you get offended if a famous comic made the same joke? If so, you all really need to relax! Watch Carlos Mencia sometime and don’t be afraid to laugh.

    Have you ever been raped?

  49. flex says:

Scooter Libby who’s your Daddy? kiss Papa Cheney goodbye and say hello to Big Bad Bubba!
maybe after a few years in the slammer, the neo-cons might learn the difference between right and wrong.

  50. katie says:

I never understood why Judge Walton didn’t just put him in handcuffs and march him off to jail. Why did he give him 6 to 8 weeks? It’s time for Libby to go to jail right now. If Bush pardons him his pool numbers will be in the single digits.

  51. chimpeach says:

Perhaps Libby should receive a sentence that comes straight from his own imagination:

“At age ten the madam put the child in a cage with a bear trained to couple with young girls so the girls would be frigid and not fall in love with their patrons. They fed her through the bars and aroused the bear with a stick when it seemed to lose interest.”

  52. chimpeach says:

I’m looking forward to the photo of Scooter in the back of the SUV with tears streaming down his red face: “It’s not fair! Mom!!!”

  53. tobias beecher says:

yknow, prison rape jokes are kinda like prison rape. after that first one, the rest ain’t so bad. i worry more about the bittersweet romances. i bet scooter’s a real heartbreaker.

  54. War4Sale says:

Better stock up on smokes, Scooter!

    LMAO!

  55. George W. ISLAMOTerrorist, the Saudi OIL WHOREBAG says:

God Bless the American JUSTICE SYSTEM!

  56. j swift says:

‘I never understood why Judge Walton didn’t just put him in handcuffs and march him off to jail.”

That is simple, Scooter is white, has money, has some power, has powerful friends and his crime was not violent.
