MSNBC and Joe Scarborough are “finalizing the details for ‘Morning Joe’ to permanently take over the 6-to-9 morning slot,” formerly occupied by controversial radio talk show host Don Imus. CBS Radio, “which syndicated Imus until his April firing,” is also in talks to syndicate “Morning Joe” to some of its stations.
More conservative talk. Lucky us!
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:14 amI predict all will be well until the Rainbow Warriors make it to the Final Four.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:16 amIf this is the best alternative, I’ll take Imus back. Boring is better than conservative sycophant.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:17 amThe only thing worse than Scarborough after dinner is Scarborough before breakfast.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:17 amWho gives a rat’s a**. Big deal, some else not worth watching.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:17 amI like Joe.
Can’t help it.
I know, I know…
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:19 amGood thing his birth-name wasn’t Woodrow.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:21 am{^_^}
Howard Kurtz whitewashes some of Scarborough’s past:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/01/AR2007070101183.html
Nowhere does Kurtz mention this:
Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old office worker for Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-FL), was found dead in the congressman’s district office. Police said preliminary findings from the medical examiner’s office showed no foul play or any outward indication of suicide.”
Klausutis died July 19, 2001. Somehow the news was eclipsed in the media by the death of Chandra Levy.

July 2nd, 2007 at 11:22 am#6 I like Joe.
Can’t help it.

Comment by NastyDiaper
Is it his over-botoxed forehead or his slitty baggy eyes?
Just wondering?
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:23 amA cup of mornin’ Joke ……….Is Scarborough going to spill the beans about the dead woman found in his office when he was a Congressman ?
Stephanie Miller should have gotten that spot ; she’s way more interesting and intelligent , and MSNBC doesn’t get that their lowest rated shows are all hosted by GOP/Chimpy backing talking heads……
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:24 amSmok’n Joe smoked someone?
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:25 amScarborough’s ok. He’s not a wingnut like people think.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:26 amGiven the varied options of rightwing puds, Joe Scarborough is one of the least offensive.
I thought it was going to be a Morning Cup of Joe Lieberman. That would have been one far right nutbag too much for me.
-GSD
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:29 am?
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:35 amwhat happens to his evening show?
didn’t he come on after olbermann? … “scaaarburow country”
…
Now, I was all for his firing… but you know what? Everyday Coulter stays on the air is another day Imus must his shitting his pants in anger.
Imus gets fired for calling someone a ‘ho’. But Coulter demands their death and we hear crickets.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:38 amMorning Joe…..
Sounds like morning sickness…. :P
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:39 amI would have preferred Stephanie Miller. She is very good.
Scarborough is not a 100 percent talking point propagandist like Sean Hannity. He deviates from the party line from time to time.
This may be a good development – as he may get through to some right-wingers on some issues, who wouldn’t listen to Stephanie Miller at all.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:43 amYou should have heard Joe Scarborogh on MSNBC’s morning show “Morning Joe” where he interviewed Ron Suskind about his book “the one percent doctrine”
– he said that if he where president and Cheney had withheld information, “he’d tell that weasel that if he ever withheld information again, he’d fire his ass” . . .and that the buck stops with the president and the president is ultimately responsible for allowing this to happen.
If someone could get that video – it would be awesome. Suskind told of the scenario where Cheney filters all intelligence and presents to Bush a version that prompts him to act in a certain way.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:43 ammaybe NOW they can get rid of that “Entertainment Tonight”-style Scarborough Country after Countdown–hey, maybe Stephanie Miller could replace him in the PM slot!
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:07 pmThe Liberal media is so sneaky giving Conservatives more airtime…
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:12 pmOh brother so Imus gets replaced by a former GOPer Rep who killed a young woman in his office and got away with it.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:13 pmhis show’s not really that conservative. He’s a conservative for sure, but he’s pretty even. I’ve watched morning joe a few times. He’s good at bantering and not being an ideologue, even though he gives mika hell all of the time. The show’s actually pretty entertaining. I’m not a conservative, but I do like to give all sides a listen, especially when they are actually fair like Scarborough TENDS to be.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:20 pmBoy, it sure would be nice if one day I could turn on the radio or TV and see a liberal show. I’m sure this feeling is no different from the feeling of black people wishing they could sit anywhere on the bus.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:21 pmAce said pretty much what I was going to say.
Joe, although conservative, tends to be a bit more open minded to other ideas and more logical then your typical conservative tv and radio personalities. I don’t agree with a lot of his ideas, but he does entertain some more liberal thoughts, and is more reasonable than people like hannity.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:35 pmre#24 Rosencrantz
It would be nice to see a show where labels like liberal and conservative would thrown away for useless psychological ploys that they are!
Why do not they have shows where they ask tough questions and impart information?
If is “absolutely essential” that our military stay in Iraq, why do they have YOU not joined the military and volunteered to got to Iraq?
When a person on a show talks about Mike Gravel the presidential campaign, how come they never talk about his HEROIC patriot deeds in getting the Pentagon Papers into the congressional record under threat of arrest for TREASON?
You would think such an exciting story would make good show, but go figure!
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:39 pmIf it is “absolutely essential†that our military stay in Iraq, why have YOU not joined the military and volunteered to go to Iraq?
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:41 pmEven though he is a conservative I enjoy his show. As for the dead woman, I thought that even conservatives were innocent until proven guilty. Where is your evidence that Scarborough killed anyone?
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:19 pmHelm, hard to starboard!
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:23 pmJoe Scarborough has never gotten ratings. Joe Scarborough has little or no appreciable talent. Why in the hell would they give him three hours?????? Good Lord. I guess “scary” uncle Karl gave ‘em a call and told them who he wants in that slot.
What about Sam Seder? Rachael Maddow? Were they given consideration?
Contact MSNBC and give em hell!

Sorry, Larry.
Take your Stalinism elsewhere!!!
July 2nd, 2007 at 2:56 pmThis is all about a media war that continues to rage between the old and new media. Unfortunately for our soldiers, these brave Americans are caught in the crossfire.
-Joe Scarborough
Today they have proven once again that the mainstream media can’t print enough bad news about our troops.
-Joe Scarborough
“(T)he real Deal is that Clinton and the Republican Congress were only able to balance their budget because IRS agents collected trillions of dollars in new revenue from American businesses. This new revenue wasn’t generated because of Democratic tax increases or Republican spending cuts; it was due to fraudulent booms in the internet and telecom sectors that were fueled by Wall Street whores and corrupt accounting giants.”
-Joe Scarborough
…On Clinton sending troops to Kosovo:
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:02 pm“Well, I just think it’s a bad idea. What’s going to happen is they’re going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 yearsâ€
-Joe Scarborough
I’m happy for Joe, always liked him; even if I didn’t agree with him much.
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:09 pmWhy is MSNBC hell bent on republican conservatives? Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson, and now Joe ‘the Schmo’ Scarborough, a former republican congressman from Floridum! MSNBC ought to get with the program — the country has lost all faith in republicans and conservatives. What wold make them think we’d want to watch or listen to them?
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:11 pmStephanie Miller killed in the ratings. This is yet another example of how right wingers control the airwaves, even when it is fiscally not the correct decision. Way to go MSNBC.
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:14 pmDidn’t Chris Matthews, when confronting Ralph Nader about his presidential voting record during the last election admit (when Ralph said it was none of his business) that he’s voted for all Democrats except for teh 2000 election where he voted for Bush over Gore? If so, and I don’t like the guy’s journalism or style, but that would not make him a Republican guy.
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:17 pmIn a related story..
caffeine prices soars on reports of an expected boost in coffee sales to combat morning drowsiness caused by BOREDOM!
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:24 pmJoe is no Conservative. He’s whatever anybody will pay or elect him to be.
July 2nd, 2007 at 4:02 pmWhat are we, conservatives now? I thought progressives rise above petty conspiracy theories? And MSNBC has moderate fiscal coservatives in these batch of hosts. Which albeit suck sometimes. Esp. when they go off on retarded moral tangents, but they seldom do.
If Joe can stick it to Murdoch and O’Reilly, than its good enough for me in the morning.
July 2nd, 2007 at 4:33 pmI’m a liberal … but I like him. He’s not a sycophant. He’s actually very good in the mornings, even when I disagree with him, as I do from time to time.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:00 pm#15, jake,
Yeah, it sucks when the double standard cuts against you for once – how’s it feel to have the shoe on the other foot?
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:05 pmThey could always try giving Alison Stewart a decent time slot somewhere.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:07 pmI don’t know why Nora O’Donnell hasn’t gotten her own show on MSNBC yet. She’s a damn good report and correspondant, great looking and charming. MSNBC should be moving her up.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:10 pmI don’t agree with everything Joe says but I like his show. His show is balanced and presents some sides of issues that it does not hurt for us liberals to hear.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:23 pmWhat’s worse–his boring style or his stilted and fake attempts to sound even handed with both liberals and conservatives?
Time to change the channel to something else in the morning–like local news or CNN!
July 2nd, 2007 at 8:10 pmMight as well watch Fox and Friends. If I hear Mika talk about her father one more time I will scream.
July 2nd, 2007 at 8:43 pmDon’t think you gave some of the other “tryouts” enought time.
I’ve only seen Joe a couple of times. but if you compare him to any other right wing mouth piece ANYWEHRE he comes fairly close to being reasonable. Did I just write that?. I never heard that thing about a dead girl in his office. WTF?
July 3rd, 2007 at 12:40 amget over imus being gone people………it’s O-VER – ok? joe is the best 3 hrs. of television today. if you don’t agree, you ain’t watching it. and by the way, all you gossip mongers, joe was in florida when the girl died in d.c. so quit creating an episode of csi:miami-k? watch and listen to his show-OBJECTIVELY. it is not only entertaining, it is informative. ya feel like the 5th person at the table. open minds folks!!
July 3rd, 2007 at 12:52 ambarbaraa,
Wrong. She was in his Florida office while he was allegedly in DC.
No wonder you find Morning Joe so informative.
July 4th, 2007 at 10:09 amBarbara,
Do you work for Ruphert Murdock ? ROMFLFAO
July 4th, 2007 at 7:14 pmjohnw,
Totally agree with you. I’m a liberal
- see http://www.andrys.com/flballot.html – and I really enjoy Morning Joe. He’s a conservative who is a genuine conservative rather than a Bush-robot. Republican or not, he doesn’t drink the kool-aid and is very tough on his own party, having been openly disenchanted with Bush and Team for 3 years now.
Some of you want someone who preaches to the choir and turns off anyone who doesn’t totally agree with us? I think he’s perfect for that morning spot, seen by the entire political spectrum of American sleepyheads. He has both right and left upset with him on almost any issue so is more balanced than most opinion guys I’ve seen. I love how upset he gets with O’Reilly but I also like that no matter how much he dislikes someone’s views he will often be fair to them. And now he and Rosie O’D seem to be getting along – would love to see her visit his show.
I also like Mica (Joe did have to be seen going with the lead story on Hilton, since he’s undergoing auditions especially, while making it clear for the entire broadcast that he agreed with her, as she went on a shredding spree that made them all laugh — you won’t see anything like this on the other news-talk shows), and I like Ridley, and Geiss. Unfortunately, this show comes on from 3-6am here so I have to tape it or get no sleep.
Those who think he is some rabid conservative need to watch the whole show sometime before spreading this myth.
July 4th, 2007 at 8:53 pmOops, apologies for misspelling “mika” as I had just finished reading another blog where that was the spelling everyone used.
For an enlightening read on Morning Joe and the actual story behind the Refusal to read Hilton news, see
July 4th, 2007 at 10:38 pmhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,2115818,00.html
Conservative, moderate, libertine …. no matter what Joe is. he’s pretty borning, almost as much as Tucker who seems to think he can cover up his lack of knowledge by shouting louder than anyone else. Nothing worth watching until Chris and Keith come on. CBS should issue a redemption pass to Imus and bring him back.
July 5th, 2007 at 6:36 amSadly Joe and Co. will never produce the ratings that Imus and his crew commanded.
NBC should “suck it up” and reinstate the entertaining and irreverrent Iman.
Reports indicate that CBS is returning Don in September. Hope that’s true AND that some brave network will fill it’s coffers and rewards us viewer/listeners with the Imus presence.
July 5th, 2007 at 11:11 amSometimes Joe does things I don’t agree with–like bashing Rosie too much or defending Ann Coulter and giving her a platform. Still, he is the only conservative on cable news that I like. He’s not a Kool-Aid drinker and he is willing to criticize his own party and compliment liberals and Democrats and treat them with respect on his show. I think I like his morning program better that Scarborough Country. That night show was getting too tabloid for me. Joe is also more laid back and likeable on the morning show.
I really wish people would stop calling this guy a “murderer” just because they read some conspiracy blogs. He was working in Washingotn DC when the aid died from a fall, and he flew home when he learned of her death. So how can you kill someone if you’re not even in the same state as them?
There is also no evidence that he and the aid were having an affair. Since she worked at a satellite office, he had very little contact with her and barely knew her.
The medical examiner got his license pulled in Missouri and Florida, but for reasons that have nothing to do with his work on the Klausutis case.
When Katherine Harris tried to bring up the aid’s death to smear Joe out of the Senate race, most people thought she lost her mind. The aid’s family told The Miami Herald that they thought her death was not the result of foul play.
Ever notice how you only read about this on conspiracy sites and not in a respectable left-wing source like The Nation or Mother Jones?
For all you silly gossippers who think Joe killed somebody, google The Clinton Body Count and you’ll find websites that call the Clintons murderers. You are no better than they are.
July 5th, 2007 at 4:59 pmNOOOOOOOOOO!!! Bring back Imus – Scarborough is a phoney – please bring back the I-Man
July 5th, 2007 at 5:17 pmlOVE MORNING JOE! THANKS ALLISON, FOR THE GREAT COMMENT ON JOE. IT’S SO RIDICULOUS THAT PEOPLE CAN BE SO SIMPLE-MINDED AND SPREAD SUCH MILICIOUS GOSSIP! JOE’S A NICE GUY, HAS A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR,AND A GREAT BUNCH TO WORK WITH! I USED TO WATCH IMUS ALSO BUT THERE COMES A TIME WHEN YOU HAVE TO LET GO! IF YOU WATCHED “MORNING JOE”, YOU’D SEE THAT HE AND HIS GUESTS SPEAK HIGHLY OF IMUS. HE HAS AN INFORMATIVE, WELL BALANCED, AND SOMETIMES FUNNY SHOW. JUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE!
July 6th, 2007 at 1:24 ami like joe but i would like to see don imus back on there is no one as good as he is
July 6th, 2007 at 8:07 amJuly 6th, 2007 at 8:07 am
so glad this is getting picked up. i get up at 6am every morning to watch this and the chemistry is between everyone is great. scarborough isn’t as bad as everyone makes him out to be. he’s actually pretty good in the morning and his balanced by ridley who is unwavering and not afraid/insists on telling people (joe) what he thinks. a liberal version of ann coulter, with an x and a y.
imus was a complete jackass who didn’t know what he was talking about half the time. and i don’t mean that in a partisan way. he seriously didn’t have a clue on some topics that would get brought up (sports, politics, whatever). he’d pawn it off like he ew[ what he was talking about, but it became very clear soon after that he didn’t. he also had 5 different guests throughout the shows entire run.
kind of getting annoyed with olbermann, who says things that i agree with 99% of the time, but says it every. single. night. in the most condescending way there’s no option but to get sick of it. i hate bush with a passion just as much as the next guy, but “ok keith, we get it, run for office.” his special comments nowadays make me squirm/roll my eyes.
matthews is great. tucker brings up some different points sometimes. glad he ditched that bow tie but he’s still pretty square.
sounds like the majority of the people that posted above are so one-sided that they already have their mind made up and don’t give things a chance. new ideas and new perspectives aren’t a bad thing. try giving this show a chance. plus, mika’s hawt.
July 6th, 2007 at 1:55 pmI love Morning Joe show; at first I missed Scarborough Country, but now I prefer the morning show; it is a lot of fun to watch and it makes me laugh just to watch the way they carry on and enjoy being themselves. Mica is a very good sport and a buffer for all of Joes teasing, I also like John Ridle and Willie Geist too. I think it is a very well balanced show and Joe shows both sides of a situation showing that he has a great mind and not just obsessed with one idea; I feel he is extremely intelligent. I also enjoy hearing a little about his family. I hope MSNBC keeps Morning Joe on permanently.
July 9th, 2007 at 5:44 pmI am so impressed with Morning Joe. I like Scarborough Country, but this is even better. I am a liberal democrat and I really like this morning show. Finally an interesting morning show with out the
glitz and personality competition of the other shows.
Thanks MSNBC
July 10th, 2007 at 12:13 pmthis is the funniest show on tv! this is the new form for a great talk show forget letterman and leno… joe mika and ridley are a riot together
July 11th, 2007 at 5:18 am! when i wake up at 5 in the morning to see a show …. it must be good !
Joe is full of himself and there needs to be more facts and less commentary!
July 11th, 2007 at 7:02 amI have been watching morning MSN for years and Scarborough is by far the worst yet. His voice is annoying, he talks over everyone and he just is not funny. Listening to him is like nails on a chalkboard. He degrades Mika, who is quite bright. She must have clenched fists as she tries to report the news. And watch Jackie try to report the weather, she strains to have a good attitude as Joe just won’t shut up. He’s a bully, what’s up with that? YUK.
July 12th, 2007 at 1:19 pmOne can only assume that the “Joe†in the title of this MSNBC morning offering refers both to host Joe Scarborough and to the slang expression “A cup of Joe,†meaning a cup of coffee. The problem is this cup of Joe is merely decaffeinated and warmed over Imus in the Morning. There is none of the caffeineated (to perhaps coin a word) wake up jolt Don Imus and crew brought to MSNBC’s programming, and, as everyone should know, warming over is the worst thing you can do to coffee.
Joe Scarborough, a former Republican Congressman from Florida, is bright enough, though certainly no intellectual. He just isn’t very good on television and brings little depth to his material. He has a good sense of humor, but is not himself at all funny. Lastly, his knowledge of the medium appears extremely limited. While it must be conceded that Scarborough knows the Washington political scene and many of the players very well, it is difficult to believe that MSNBC’s purpose in placing Scarborough in the morning slot was to have a political pundit replacing the very versatile Don Imus.
The personnel surrounding Scarborough is a sometimes strange combination. There to read the news is longtime CBS News Anchor/Correspondent, and now free lance news anchor for MSNBC Mika Brzezinski. Mika is excellent when delivering the news in a straight fashion, but on Morning Joe, where she tries to adlib and be funny, she simply looks silly.
Whether made by Scarborough or MSNBC programming executives, a strange choice for the program is John Ridley, an African-American screenwriter who appears often on NPR. Ridley is quite bright, very articulate, and a bit of a pompous twit.
Much better than Ridley is Chuck Nice, a black comedian and radio personality, who appeared as a guest/co-host with MSNBC News Anchor Amy Robach a couple of weeks ago. Nice, like Ridley, is bright and articulate, and his experience in radio and on VH1, experience Ridley does not have, gives him a decided edge in viewer acceptability.
Perhaps the worst participant so far in Morning Joe is Willie Geist, Senior Producer of the Tucker Carlson show on MSNBC. Geist, son of CBS’s Bill Geist, who does humorous features for that network. Son Willie seems to be pushed on camera more and more by MSNBC. Why? The man is not funny, though Carlson, who uses him on camera as the end segment of each program, seems to think he is. He isn’t particularly knowledgeable about anything other than the trivia of the day: Paris Hilton in jail, Lindsay Lohan in detox, etc. The kind of crap you expect to see in weekday talk shows.
MSNBC General Manager Dan Abrams believes Scarborough has really impressed viewers with his performance thus far. If true, then why has that time slot’s ratings and viewing households plummeted 50% since Imus was fired?
One suspects that with the firing of Don Imus MSNBC will never again be a significant factor in the weekday morning competition. At the moment, Fox News dominates the time slot but CNN got lucky. Imus made his regrettable remark about the Rutgers women’s basketball team just as CNN was dumping Soledad and Miles O’Brien as host of American Morning. New co-hosts Kiran Chetry and John Roberts are an appealing team which just may pick up the viewers MSNBC lost and a significant number who may defect from Fox News.
Whatever the final outcome, one must doubt that Joe Scarborough and Morning Joe will gain much of an audience, however much MSNBC promotes and pushes it. Frankly, Morning Joe just isn’t this writer’s cup of tea.
July 18th, 2007 at 1:50 amJoe Scarborough is not the hard right wing ideologue that some responders have suggested here. While certainly a Republican, Joe often admits on his morning show that he has shifted to left over the last few years, especially on the Iraq War (he’s now against it) and more generally on the current Administration (he is a frequent critic of Bush/Cheney for the nonsense typically found in their public statements). However, Joe does manage to still bug me quite a bit with his right-wing, party-line comments against Joe Wilson and the Plame affair in general.
Even so, I would be shocked if Joe was a real big favorite of Karl Rove – he’s too much of a ‘free thinker’ for that. And, John Ridley has provided a mostly liberal viewpoint on the show (but where is he this week?). Also, Joe is basically entertaining in a natural and relaxed way. He has kept on many of Don Imus’ former morning guests, which always included a decent left-right variety. I’m listening to Joe interview Arianna Huffington right now….
