Take our healthcare "system" (please?). I can pretty much guarantee that Hillary and Barak have been getting those HUGE war-chests filled largely by BigInsurancePharMed (whatever you want to call 'em all), who realize their Republican elves might be in for a whuppin'. Why do I say that?

All I hear from Clinton/Obama is a continuation of half-baked hybrid ideas instead of the system that Americans (70%!) want and every other industrialized country has: National Single-Payer (NSP). And you folks wonder why a responsible smallbusinessman like myself is voting for Kucinich (or Nader if Kucinich isn't nominated)? Do you have any employees? Do you have an accountant for god's sake? Do you look at the freakin' numbers?

What is destroying American entreprenueurism and free market spirit is our healthcare system! How many brilliant young people are flocking to corporations (where they get bored and let their brains rot) instead of charging ahead with really new ideas? How can we blame them for wanting healthcare security (as if) for their families? Think of the impact to come soon, now that every sector must meet/exceed global competitors.

Vote PROGRESSIVE until the Dems become part of the solution! That's how Clintonism got replace by Deanism, that's how a Republican Congress got replaced by a Democratic Congress ... and it's the only way the New Silent Majority (70% for NSP/70% for No More War!) will start getting what we want. It's only because The People are making waves that the Dem boat is finally glancing back at shore. But as evidenced by polls on their performance, they still haven't even turned around!

So, don't whine about us Progressives. We're the ones with the vision to forego short-term band-aids for long-term solutions -- until Dems finally realize they have to kick the lobbyists out! NO MORE REPUBLICAN-LITE!

I am amazed I read all this, ranting and raving. Everyone thinks they are right or have all the facts and no one does, but everyone thinks THEY have the answers. Yes, the comments we make say something about our character - hear it, research it, make a decision, and get over it. Is all this really necessary? It seemed like an excercise in who can tick the others off. Doesn't anyone here have anything better to do, like get out and make a difference for the BETTER, not making excuses for others and supporting the status quo? Uh, oh. Does that make me a republican? democrat? liberal? progressive? neocon? christian? athiest? You all know what is RIGHT - just do it. I just came to this site to find out something about Fred, someone I've admired on TV for most of my life. Guess he's just not the right one for the job. By the way, we've never had a perfect president and if we did I would wonder what planet he/she came from. But my advice? Choose someone who does not shred the constitution - or we're going backwards instead of forwards - I'm for forward and the future. :-)

Harry, I hear you, really I do. But also, I'm not into today's royal families (be it Bush, Clinton or what have you) and that alone would prevent me from voting for Hillary. I've voted for Nader the last 3 elections because I believe in voting for the best person running; the candidate who's willing to recognize and speak to the ROOT problems. Personally, I don't feel I owe it to anyone to do otherwise.

To me, my vote is a statement as much as anything. Because nowadays, I think the R's and D's are so much alike (with a few exceptions like Feingold, who I'm proud to say is my Senator) in their total lack of attention to US foreign policy and its causal effect upon terrorism, that it makes little difference which of the two I vote for. I might even vote for that R from Texas who's talking about eliminating the CIA, etc. Now THERE is a root problem that, unless addressed, will continue to foster violence, ad infinitum.

But to answer your question: I believe Clinton lowered the bar to the point where the opposition can legitimately say, "Well, Clinton... lied... pardoned... **cked us..." and all the other crap you can find in the diatribes above. You and I might be smart enough to see the difference between a BJ and killing 650,000 people, but try as we might, we can bring the electorate to the water but we can't make 'em drink.

Ergo, my prognosis for the coming election and for America's dim future. On the other hand, I hope I'm very, very wrong.

Furthermore, I will NEVER vote for Billary. It's not that what Bill Clinton did was so bad....

....if he had just OWNED UP TO IT! Lying and getting caught destroyed his credibility and ruined the rest of his term. Based on what I've seen so far, Obama is my horse, anyway.

To all who will undoubtably fly into a rage over some of my comments, fly away. The odds that I will ever be back to view responses is nill at best, so save your typing fingers some effort.

"I know the families of convicted crack dealers will be happy because their sentences will now be reduced to the same coke dealers.

Comment by leftcoast — July 2, 2007 @ 8:06 pm"

The vast majority of crack users are black, same with the dealers. Having higher penalties for crack dealers and users unfairly targets black Americans. Dispute it, I dare you.

Everyone is so fired up about getting a Dem in office. Yeah, Mr. Bush is a lying snake. Name me one politician who is not. I'll wait...

Yeah, I thought not. It's always a choice of lesser evil, kids. When are we all going to realize that? I want the Bush Regime to end as badly as anyone, but we all need to remember the lesson of 2004: it's not enough to just not be Bush. You need to really have something to offer. All I've heard so far is the same stuff we heard from Sen. Kerry last time. Push these guys to really stand out and then make them LIVE UP TO THEIR PROMISES!!!

Fritzio - please explain how, exactly, it's Clinton's fault that we got Bush? I've heard this before, and I don't get your point. Bush lowered the bar all by himself (well, ok, when I say Bush, I mean: bush, cheney, rumsfeld, rice, wolfowitz, pearl, rove, and minions like libby, card, gonzales)

So how did Clinton soil the office anywhere near what's happened in the last 7 years? A stained dress? not even close, IMO... what's yours?

And the progressive position here is like a punk attitude: I hate everyone, so I'm not going to play your game... great, that's productive. Every "progressive" vote means one more point for the RepubliCON's...

Folks, because of the Republicans, our house is on fire here. Arguing about potential water damage only allows the fire to do more damage. Enough is enough. Throws these bums out, and then start fixing the Dem's later. Sure they need a lot of fixing, but crikey let's put out the fire that's burning NOW.

There is reason that Bush didn't give Libby a full pardon. Then he could be forced to testify before congress and wouldn't be able take the 5th against self-incrimination, because he would not be in any jeopardy. Bush and Cheney don't want him saying anything and they need to keep an ax over his head.

For those hung up on using Clinton as a measuring stick, let me speak up for those who did not, would not, could not vote for any kind of Clinton - or any other media-annointed warmed-over republican-lite candidate. Those are the people who help drag the honorable office of US President into the swamp it now occupies, enabling even one so reprehensible as Bush to continue to lower the bar with little or no media outcry (Keith Obermann, you're the best - Thank You so much for your courage!). And to my fellow Progressives, be ready for another 4 years of hell, because I think you're vastly overestimating voters' capacity to examine the real issues. Personally, I think America is nothing short of doomed. And we deserve it.

Isn't revealing the identity of a covert/clandestine operative not only warranted of a lifetime prison sentence but also fall under treason and thus, punishable by death?

Yah, Libby got scott free here, and Thompson is calling him an American hero...

Go back to making movies, Thompson. I liked you better when the only things that came out of your mouth were what was written on a script.

As Senator Durbin said, <strong>"Even Paris Hilton had to go to jail".</strong>
Can someone explain the logic in "This will allow a good American, who has done a lot for his country, to resume his life." That is true, as his fine will not be paid by him, but by his supporters. But how does being a good American, who obstructed justice, make him immune from the rule of law?

Typical remark from a GOP knuckle-dragging nitwit.
Cite your source for this drivel ; and before you even attempt to use NewsCrap or Sludge Report , make sure it’s a LEGITIMATE source……….

He can't do that. Only "sources" that dispute her NOC status are RW sites that put Republican politics before the good of the country. CIA says she was a NOC...that's good enough for me.

Joe Wilson “outed” Valerie Plame at every capitol hill party they went to. Her status was no more of a secret than Dick Cheney’s (although there’s always the possibility he may be a robot…)
