White House leaves door open for future pardon.»

“The White House on Tuesday declined to rule out the possibility of an eventual pardon for former vice presidential aide I. Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby. But spokesman Tony Snow said, for now, President Bush is satisfied with his decision to commute Libby’s 2 1/2-year prison sentence. … ‘The reason I’m not going to say I’m not going to close a door on a pardon,’ Snow said, ‘Scooter Libby may petition for one.’”

UPDATE: Bush commented on a future pardon, saying, “As to the future, I rule nothing in and nothing out.” Watch it:

Hardly. It keeps up the focus on this disastrous administration. We have a year and a half to go before they’re gone, and this is just one thing helping to turn up the heat. If it only convinces one of the 28%’ers to ’see the light’, then I’m all for it.

In fact, this is the week in which you should visit your Congress Member’s district office and demand that he or she sign onto Kucinich’s articles of impeachment or introduce their own. And they should not just sign on, but make a public statement in support. Here’s everything

Judge Reggie Walton was appointed to the bench in 2001 by George W. Bush. Apparently they had been pleased with him up until now, enough that Chief Justice Roberts appointed him to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in May.

    To all Trolls…

Enjoy your 4th of July, knowing that the dry drunk you worship is a hollow, uncaring, selfish sociopath whose need for power is derived by a Father who never had enough time to spend with his Son.

Dad & Mom went golfing the day the buried W’s little sister. They may have buried him that day, too.

You can blow all the smoke you want here, rejoicing in this travesty of justice called Bush the Turd. It doesn’t matter. If the God you call in whenever you need a conscience exists, trust that even God has no time for sociopaths & warmongers.

America celebrates 231 years of leading the world with an idea of freedom for all. That dream still lives in the hearts & minds of men & women worldwide.

Yesterday, your President pissed on our flag. When the privileged become exempt from the rule of law, we are all the losers.

Think about this tomorrow when you’re celebrating Party over Country. Think about it when you see Old Glory waving at you from on high.

You see, our Flag & Country were never intended to take sides of Party over Patriotism. If you do, you destroy in an instant 231 years of maintaining & supporting the greatest idea this planet ever witnessed.

I’m an American first. I will not let Party supersede my Patriotism.
My Grandfather, My Dad, myself & my Son all served our Country proudly with dignity & honor. We never asked for anything back and never will.

But. We do ask that all Americans remember that Politics & Patriotism will never equate to Person & Patriotism.

    Happy Birthday, America!
May you stay forever free and rise above the noise we call politics.

  63. Jeremy Says:

Funny, so did Libby, Flaco and Jessie.

I have a few points for you:

    1) A jury of Scooters peers found him guilty of obstructing justice (which the senate didn’t for Clinton, at least, not to the level of High Crimes and Misdemeanors as required by the Constitution). A GOP appointed judge decided to sentence him to the strongest sentence according to the timeline. Bush argued that the sentence was too ‘excessive’, then communted his sentence to 0 time, which is not an option for any judge to assign. (I guarantee you if I obstructed justice, Dubya woudn’t commute _my_ sentence to Fine and Probation, let alone pardon me)

    2) Just because Clinton did it doesn’t justify Bush doing it. ‘Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right’.

So much for the Republicans being the Law and Order party. “But Libby didn’t lie about anything _important_.” “Plame wasn’t undercover!” For someone who rails so hard against what the Democrats were accused of, you’re pretty damn hypocritical about the Republicans doing it. Heh.

  64. Sharon Says:

Good Morning Poster’s….I have been away for a few day’s and will leave again after this post…This is not a critical thought against any of you but once again I must remind you all you are waisting a precious commodity, your time, spending it here debating and knocking back a pitiful few loyal black hearted troll’s is a terrible waste..

Join me and million’s of other’s all over the country working to demand the impeachment or if they refuse, to get a judge and grand jury started up to indict all this administration…Counties and states all over our nation are working on these very thing’s….

Before these insane people pick up the red phone and bomb the shit out of another nation or use their will to kill any more citizen’s here we must keep our eye on the ball…..Remove the evil source…Demand justice for all our lives lost…Never mind this Libby bull shit, it is just another diversion, we know they are all guilty, we know bull shit will pardon…They are all guilty. Now get on with the good work at hand and that is get them the hell out of this evil mess and get some good law abiding people in..Blessings

And BTW, so far, Cheney has not pardoned Scoot, just commuted the sentence. The pardon will come as Darth is boarding his plane for Dubai and Dubya is headed off to live with mom and dad in the basement of their Paraguay homestead.

  68. Wilco Says:

So Jessie, you think people who are 70% against the war and see the war as their major voting issue will vote in favor of those who are all for the war?
    Again, amazingly sound logic.

    Several, even.
    Scooter was found guilty

The Congress is nearly equal in who occupies those seats. The blame is therefore equally distributed.

What’s Bush’s excuse with 6 years of a Repug trifeca?

  105. Crump's Brother Says:

This whole “Clinton did it” excuse is ironic due to the fact that Bush ran on a platform which basically said that he was the Anti-Clinton. He wouldn’t do those terrible things that Clinton did. Well guess what, he did.

    Interesting.

  106. Jessie Saxson Says:

I see Jessie has either adopted a new screen name or has signed on to the old right-wing troll talking points.

The 14% approval rating for the “Dem congress” is a lie.

The 14% number came from a Gallup poll. That is the number of respondents who said they had “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in Congress. The same poling organization the same week reported a 24% approval rating for the Congress as a whole — NOT the “Dem congress”.

The reasons for the low approval rating for Congress are open for debate, but the number reported by Gallup IS NOT.

As Daniel Patrick Moynihan said,”Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts”.

  116. Jessie Saxson Says:

“Weak. Libby lied under oath, obstructed justice and made false statements. ”

No, he misremembered. He confused Tim Russert with Bob Woodward, which is an honest mistake. He didn’t intentially lie. The jury got this one wrong, and I hope Bush pardons Libby. Almost every witness in this case misremembered some crucial facts. Sorry Ann. Is it Coulter?

Yesterday the United States Government demonstrated how the ideologically challenged protect their own.

The man who pretends to be a leader for the people and is tough on crime, George W. Bush, yesterday commuted the prison sentence of his long time pal and Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, convicted felon I. Scooter Libby.

Mr. Bush has shown that the rule of law pertains only to those that do not have ties to him, or the Republican Party.

After being convicted on perjury charges and losing an appeal to delay entry to prison while appealing his conviction, George W. Bush, the decider, decided to free Libby from the undue hardship prison may cause him.

I suggest at this time that impeachment proceeding begin both for the President and Vice President.

With 72% of Americans distraught over how this current administration has behaved; the rule of law completely disregarded, the act first pre-emptive strike on a sovereign nation, the lies, illegal wiretapping, outing of a covert CIA agent, voter caging, raping our treasury, installing unqualified supporters into powerful positions, disregarding global warming, ignoring price gouging on gas, taking an unscientific approach to stem cell research, ignoring the needs of Katrina victims, encouraging inter-country roadway from Canada to Mexico, lack of employee protections Enron, corruption, Karl Rove, outlawing online gaming transactions, allowing drilling in National Parks, deforestation, the distrust we have earned from other nations as a world leader, these are only a few of things done wrong. The list goes on and on, it is now time to put an end to this reckless misuse of his authority.

We Americans installed a democratic congress to correct these issues. It is our feeling that you must put all other business aside and make a fully thorough effort to remove these two tyrannical rulers, as well as Alberto Gonzales, from their jobs and restore the dignity we have all come to cherish.

If the United States continues on its present course, we, as a country are doomed. It will not be very long before the rest of the world considers us a threat and decides to take action.

Our freedom and our liberty are at stake, and the current congress has the responsibility, the duty, under the Constitution to remedy this situation.

Time for rhetoric has passed; it is now time for action. If this congress is not willing to take on the important issues concerning all Americans, we will most assuredly, remove those of you from office when you are up for re-election.

All else remaining the same, the senate will flip back. Which if Hillary wins, it wouldn’t be that bad of a thing to have divided government.

  147. Jeremy Says:

Actually, Jessie, I don’t justify Clinton’s pardons except to say they’re in the past. Let me give you a clue here, since you obviously missed my last post on this matter.

Back in 2000, when Clinton was pardoning people, I was a 27 year old Computer Tech who had dreams of moving to Denver. Around that time, I was too busy getting ready to visit my Aunt Patt in Denver to care about what Clinton was doing in office. Yes, I was happy with how Clinton was running things, mainly because I was happy with life. Back then? I was a pretty apolitical social liberal and fiscal moderate. In other words, I was part of the problem, that problem being complacent voters. I admit, I didn’t even vote in 2000.

Now I realize that was a problem. 2001, we were hit by alQueda, and I was part of the large group that rallied behind Bush. When he threatened Afghanistan to give him up, I supported him. When they refused and he showed them what it means to refuse a demand to extradite a mass murderer, I was behind him. In early 2002, if I had a chance to vote in a Presidential Election, I would have voted Bush. Then he started drumming for Iraq…

We all know how that turned out. Jessie/CT/Mr. P/Jake/etc? I’m not a Democrat. I’ve voted Republican, Democrat, Green, and Libertarian. I used to trust Republicans in places of fiscal responsibility. My favorite Governer of all time was Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer, a Moderate democrat turned Moderate Republican. My political philosophy remains the same — maximum respect for personal freedoms, with a careful attention to balancing my freedoms versus other’s freedoms. This extends to businesses as well — Let the market decide, but government steps in when a business starts taking away others rights and liberties, including other businesses. But now, It’ll be a VERY long time before I ever vote Republican again, and it’s all thanks to Bush and his cronies.

    Congratulations, you’ve angered an Independent.

  148. Jessie Saxson Says:

Unbelievable, Louisiana is actually a very strongly conservative state, at least in social issues. Racism is the platform they usually run on, with the attached keywords of ‘Tough on Crime’. That appeals to alot of people, so yes, Louisiana could vote in a Republican Senator.

New Orleans is strongly Democratic, yes. However, New Orleans voters are scattered all over the place, making it much easier to challenge New Orleans votes. The rest of the state? Baton Rouge is STRONGLY Republican. Don’t even get me started on Rural Louisiana.

“No way Louisiana will votes for a Repug?”

First, I can’t read that sentence without wincing. You have ‘will’, which is the helping verb that would conjugate if it could (and it can’t). You never conjugate the main verb if there is an auxiliary verb in the sentence.

Second, to address your comment directly — No, there is a way Louisiana would vote for a Republican. Foster was Republican. So was Roemer for a time. And we came damn close to electing David Duke, a nasty Republican racist. Don’t discount it yet.

I’m getting stared down by one rather angry cat… Better go serve lunch…

    Back later.

Bush should grant a full pardon to Libby. He did absolutley nothing wrong. What Libby did was political, not criminal.

Bill Clinton, however, trashed the constitution and lied under oath, obstructed justice and was impeached for it.

    Comment by Jessie Saxson — July 3, 2007 @ 12:44 pm

The utter lack of logic present in the minds of some people is simply astounding. So, let me get this straight:

    a) A man who is impeached over lying under oath about his sexual relations with another consenting adult, and for whom said impeachment was overturned on insufficient grounds for impeachment, was obstructing justice and trashing the Constitution?

    b) A man who was convicted, under criminal proceedings, by a jury of his peers (and a conservative, Republican judge), of perjury and obstruction of justice in regards to aiding and abetting the outing of a covert CIA agent, covering up for those who ordered it, and for whom the initial appeal was also rejected on their being no basis for the convicted to not immediately start to serve jail time (by at least two conservative, Republican judges, no less), was wrongfully convicted?

Selection (a) is a matter of lying about a sexual relationship. Selection (b) is a matter of lying about an act of treason. And you think that (a) is a larger crime than (b)?!? What the hell kind of pill did you have to take to so thoroughly displace yourself from reality?

An act of sexual indiscretion is worth, at most, public scorn and ridicule. Lying under oath about it certainly deserves some sort of punishment, most likely in the form of a fine, and a permanent entry onto the public record.

An act of treason is worth, at most, being put to DEATH. Lying under oath about an act of treason to protect others who were complicit in said act of treason deserves life in prison, not 2-1/2 years (or, now, zero days in prison, no fine he will have to pay, and a pardon in a year and a half). What Libby did was both political AND criminal. Those two concepts are not mutually exclusive.

The Democrat congress only has a 14% approval rating. It is going to flip back to the GOP next year.

Commuting the sentence of Libby and hopefully pardoning him is the best thing Bush has done all year.

    Comment by Jessie Saxson — July 3, 2007 @ 12:57 pm

Now, try not to be so utterly disingenuous. It is not the Democrats in Congress who have a 14% approval rating. It is the Congress as a whole. Their approval rating was climbing to quite heights while they were successfully passing the bills this country wants in the House. Only after these bills began to be rejected in the Senate, and only after the Congress capitulated to the President by not voting to end the Iraq Police Action, did Congress’ approval rating begin to decline.

In other words, Americans were quite happy with Congress when they were successfully voting on their various 100 day initiatives. Once the obstructionist Republicans started gumming up the gears, and once the Congress as a whole refused to follow the will of the American people and begin the process to end the debacle in Iraq, We the People began to get pissed, for such capitulation is not what the citizens of this country voted for in November of 2006. They voted for change, and the Republicans are doing everything they can to deny the will of the people.

Yet, you think that the Republicans will take back the Congress, and KEEP the Presidency come 2009? You are delusional.

Yeah, because that information tells the whole story, doesn’t it. Oh, wait, it doesn’t? What, you mean Clinton only falls in the halfway mark of sheer number of presidential pardons. No…f*cking…way. I never would have known that had I not bothered to actually look it up myself.

Would you like actual lists of all of the people that each individual president pardoned and commuted
