Fox News: Universal health care breeds terrorists.

Today on Fox News’s Your World With Neil Cavuto, National Review Online columnist Jerry Bowyer attacked Michael Moore’s movie SiCKO and its positive portrayal of the health care in countries such as Britain and France. He argued that national health care systems are breeding grounds for terrorists because they are “bureaucratic.” “I think the terrorists have shown over and over again…they’re very good at gaming the system with bureaucracies,” said Bowyer.

terrorhealthcare.jpg

Bowyer also claimed that in the United States, “if one of your doctors is spending all the time online reading Osama bin Laden fatwas, someone’s going to notice that.”

UPDATE: Michael Roston at Raw Story has compiled conservatives bloggers’ attacks on SiCKO HERE.

Transcript:

A state run health care enterprise is bureaucratic, and I think the terrorists have shown over and over again, whether it’s dealing with INS or whether it’s dealing with airport security, they’re very good at gaming the system with bureaucracies. They’re very good at getting around bureaucracies. [...]

And if one of your guys is a jihadist, if one of your doctors is spending all the time online reading Osama bin Laden fatwas, someone’s going to notice that. But the National Health Serfvice is more like the post office, you know there’s a lot of anonymity, it’s easy to hide in the bureaucracy.

    Read the comment – QED.

The only thing Mr P could say about these people was that they were muslim doctors. Of course the ‘muslim’ piece was extended into a racial epithet, probably equivalent to the ‘n’ word or perhaps the ‘y’ word for our peoples of the Torah. Happens to Tiger Woods all the time: ‘black man wins golf tournament’ – as if being black was the only notable thing about him.

So instead of ‘weren’t these homicidal maniacs doctors?’ We have a disgusting term for a race of people as part of the accusation.

    Any other questions?

  36. Mark @ News Corpse says:

Oh great…Now it’s bureaucracies that cause terrorism!

Will Bush invade every bureaucracy in America to root out the evildoers? Watch out Post Office, DMV, and even Congress!

There are powerful forces out to discredit Sicko and suppress the audience for it. that’s because it’s a such a profoundly moving experience. You cannot sit through that movie with dry eyes. That kind of emotional impact is even more persuasive than a bunch of statistics.

The right wing media has pulled out all the stops to destroy this movie. Even MTV’ took a swipe at it:

    MTV’s Hatchet Man On Sicko
“After alleging that Moore is a brazen con man who cherry-picked facts and manipulated interviews, Loder calls Moore a “proud socialist.”

    This just demonstrates their desperation.

The answer is simple- make sure the National Health Care plan isn’t a bureaucracy. BUT, Great Whitehead may have a point: nothing is more bureaucratic than the motor vehicle division, and approximately 251,272 more die from driving off the road than from terrorism. That’s a lot of people dying from not knowing how to stay on the road, not so many for terrorism. I wonder how many more people die from not getting the medical help they need than die as a result of terrorism. Of course, some of them have to be Muslim so those figures don’t count as HUMAN deaths… Right?

I asked is you were willing to pay for police, fire, highways, sewer pipes, traffic lights, etc. on an as-need basis. How you turned it into this question is a feat for Houdini…

I’m now a government employee in a socialized program, and I have to say, it beats working for Corporate America when it comes to freedom from profits. The education system has other problems, some of which do include financial priorities, but unlike being an Architect, my priority working for the government as an Educator is not money, and the lack of that pressure allows me to focus on what is important – my students.

In SiCKO, the UK doctor that Moore interviewed has no financial pressures the way US doctors do, so he is able to put his patients, not corporate profits first. The result is a healthier population.

The United States is the sickest Industrialized Nation in teh world. By a lot. Wonder why? Wonder no more…

So you talked to Faiz and he told you his reasoning behind doing those threads? Is that it? Or are you psychic? I guess we’ll just never know about Rosie O’Donnell, since she obeys the law. That’s pure speculation on your part, isn’t it?

  125. Frank J says:

The NHS is the nearest thing to a religion that the British now have. For half a century the British have convinced themselves that the NHS is the envy of the world. It is — for the third world. And it is the third world’s doctors and nurses who keep alive this socialist cult of security from cradle to grave.

No politician dares to reform the NHS, which is still run by its white-coated medical priesthood. Even Margaret Thatcher, who was fearless with terrorists, quailed before the doctors and nurses. “The NHS is safe in our hands,” she said. But the question has long been: are we safe in the NHS’s hands?

Aneurin Bevan, the man who created this monster, explained how he had persuaded the senior doctors to submit to the state: “I stuffed their mouths with gold.” But training our own doctors is expensive. Today, the agencies that supply the NHS with doctors recruit their staff throughout Africa and Asia. Many are Muslims and, inevitably, some of them are Islamists.

The origins of the eight suspects arrested so far are diverse — Iraq, Jordan, India, Saudi Arabia — but all spent time at NHS hospitals or medical schools. One of them, who drove a blazing Jeep into an airport terminal and set fire to himself, is now being treated for burns that cover 90% of his body in the same hospital that unsuspectingly employed him. If he survives, he will owe his life to his intended victims.

Anybody with medical qualifications has been able to enter Britain with few questions asked. Of the 277,000 doctors in the NHS, some 128,000 — that is nearly four out of 10 — were trained abroad. It was a loophole that should have been obvious, given Al Qaeda’s declared strategy of recruiting highly educated professionals. The cell that launched last week’s attacks is probably not the only one.

  126. unbelievable says:

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! What a great idea. Of course “Buster Brown” must reside in a red state. And hey, all you red staters that DID NOT vote for Dick Cheney and his boy Bush are welcome to join us that live in the blue states.

Thanks… It kinda goes along with the way the medical profession itself does trial studies to see if treatment works. And the trolls are always saying that the states should have more say, so let’s put it to the states.

One caveat, because this is part of the problem with education, is that the governing body of the system should not be an elected group of politicians, but actual doctors and medical administrators who are hired to focus on the system, rather than getting re-elected to a position in which they really have no actual experience…

Now the reverse is true, too. Get the hell out of my blue state all you Cheney and his boy Bush voters.

I am actually on the fence with socialized health care. I agree that there is a major problem with our current system, but the search for profits is what leads to breakthroughs in many cases? Frank, let me remind you that the rest of the industrialized world had universal healthcare for their citizens long before we had a “War on Terror.” What’s happened recently? Oh yeah. The War in Iraq. Michael Moore has been arguing for years that the War in Iraq would lead to more terrorism, so I think since that War is newer than universal healthcare, it is more likely that it is what is leading to this new form of terrorism.

Does that make any sense to you? It’s called “critical thinking.”

“It’s why college education is free in many countries.

They would still be making a lot of money. Education Administrators make 6 figures…”

So to have free healthcare you have to have free education?

“They wouldn’t. In the UK, the doctor Moore interviewed made more than twice that as a resident, and said that full MDs make even more. In addition, they get paid extra for positive results – such as getting a patient to stop smoking, so there is still, to a varied degree, reward for good work.”

I like the idea of paying doctors more as their skills grow, but how much is that compared to now? You may not like money being the big incentive to get into medicine, but it is human nature to want to be very well off and live comfortably. Especially if you are in a high stress and high skill job as a surgeon.

“Instead of assuming, do some research and definitely go see SiCKO. CNN fact checked the movie and said that Moore did well…

I have done a great deal of research on results in other countries and theories on what it would do to our country, which is why I am on the fence. As for unbiased, Moore may have passed the fact check, but that does not mean it was not presented in an unbiased perspective. I don’t think he lied or anything, but I doubt he included any interviews of doctors or nurses that have had problems with universal healthcare or even patients that have had to wait due to lack of beds. He is far from unbiased. I will watch the movie when it comes out on DVD.

About the original terrorists (who happened to be jews) being given what they demanded by creating a “jewish” state in the middle of arab country? About Irans leader being over thrown for a lacky of the west? About the CIA training Egyptians to torture the religious freaks instead of prison or some other more human tactic? About giving Saddam WMDs? The freakin list goes on and on… were the arabs doing bad things during this time? Yes… but then again THEY LIVE THERE… we dont have any business over there… except OIL…

I have a suggestion for you, if you have health coverage right now, look at the list of in-network and out of network doctor names. You’ll find a ton of foreigners.

In fact, the nursing shortage is so bad in this country, it’s hard NOT to find a foreign nurse in my area (Tampa, FL). The local hospitals are filled with foreign health care professionals. When staying with my parents at a local heart center last year, I found that many of their nurses barely even spoke English. Over a few days, one nurse was Vietnamese, another was from the Dominican Republic, another was Jamaican, etc.

Foreign doctors are drawn to where they can make a living. That includes countries with state provided health care along with countries with a free market, for-profit approach like ours.

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t stand the American system with lying, stealing HMOs meddling with my doctor’s opinion. Or the bizarre division of care between rich and poor. You may like having hospitals set up like restaurants with McHealthcare at the low end and Alain Ducasse Care at the high end, but I think that’s ridiculous.

And where does this bizarre link with terrorists come from. I’d say Republican stupidity breeds terrorism. One only has to look at this White House to see how right that is.

You should care. It’s the difference bewteen good and bad health care.

So to have free healthcare you have to have free education?

    No…

Not all countries provide free education. France, however, does.

I like the idea of paying doctors more as their skills grow, but how much is that compared to now? You may not like money being the big incentive to get into medicine, but it is human nature to want to be very well off and live comfortably. Especially if you are in a high stress and high skill job as a surgeon.

That wouldn’t change that much, as I pointed out. They would still be very highly paid.

I have done a great deal of research on results in other countries and theories on what it would do to our country, which is why I am on the fence.

So far, your assertions don’t align with the research I’ve seen.

I could post some links if you’d like.

Again, you’re making a lot of assumptions without having seen the movie.

He lets the people in the film speak for themselves…

He is far from unbiased. I will watch the movie when it comes out on DVD.

BlueCross Secret Memo Re: ‘Sicko’ … “You would have to be dead to be unaffected by Moore’s movie…”

    July 6th, 2007

    Friends,

An employee who works at Capital BlueCross has sent us a confidential memo written and circulated by its Vice President of Corporate Communications, Barclay Fitzpatrick. His job, it seems, was to go and watch “Sicko,” observe the audience’s reaction, and then suggest a plan of action for how to deal with the movie.

The memo, which I am releasing publicly in this email, is a fascinating look at how one health care company views “Sicko” — and what it fears its larger impact will be on the public. The industry’s only hope, the memo seems to indicate, is if the movie “flops.”

Mr. Fitzpatrick writes: “In typical Moore fashion, Government and business leaders are behind a conspiracy to keep the little guy down and dominated while getting rich.”

No. You don’t say! That can’t be!

BlueCross V.P. Fitzpatrick seems downright depressed about the movie he just saw. “You would have to be dead to be unaffected by Moore’s movie,” he writes. “Sicko” leaves audiences feeling “ashamed to be…a capitalist, and part of a ‘me’ society instead of a ‘we’ society.”

He walks out of the theater only to witness an unusual sight: people — strangers — mingling and talking to each other. “‘I didn’t know they (the insurers) did that!’ was a common exclamation followed by a discussion of the example,” according to Fitzpatrick.

He then assesses the film’s impact: “[T]he impact on small business decision makers, our members, the community, and our employees could be significant. Ignoring its impact might be a successful strategy only if it flops, but that has not been the history of Moore’s films … If popular, the movie will have a negative impact on our image in this community.”

The BlueCross memo then suggests a strategy in dealing with “Sicko” and offers the BCBS “talking points” to be used in discounting the film.

My heartfelt thanks to the employee who sent this to me.

And now a word from me to Capital BlueCross:

How ’bout a debate? No more secret memos and hand wringing about the millions seeing “Sicko.” Just me and your CEO openly debating the merits of a system that kills thousands of innocent Americans every year.

In the meantime, I hope you don’t mind me sharing your thoughts and impressions in your well-written memo. And if the rest of your executive team hasn’t seen “Sicko,” it opens in an additional 100 cities tonight for a total of over 700 screens across North America. Attendance went up a whopping 56% on the 4th of July, higher than any other film in the theaters right now. But don’t be scared, and certainly don’t be ashamed to be a capitalist. Greed is good! Especially good for you. There’s nothing like having the pre-existing condition of being rich, should you ever get sick and need help.

    Yours,

    Michael Moore

Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association
Talking Points in Response to Michael Moore’s “Sicko”
    June 2007

    1) The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and the 39 Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are committed to improving the U.S. healthcare system for our nearly 100 million members through continuous innovation that reflects the ever-changing healthcare landscape and the needs of the consumer.

    2) The Blues recognize the need for improvement of both the coverage and delivery of healthcare. But the divisive tone set forth by Michael Moore and his movie “Sicko” is not helpful. Positive change to our healthcare system can be best achieved through shared responsibility, not recrimination. To ensure Americans have access to the best healthcare that is both timely, efficient, and of high quality, requires the collective contribution of all stakeholders — consumers, providers, employers and the government.

    3) The Blues participation in the Health Coverage Coalition for the Uninsured is a primary example of how the broader healthcare community is working together to reduce the number of uninsured in the United States.

    4) The Blues are working on myriad initiatives that ensure Americans have access to quality and affordable healthcare. Each day, Blue Plans across the country are bringing healthcare value to their members in a number of ways such as new advances in health information technology and greater access to cost and quality information. In addition:

o The Blues recently created Blue Health Intelligence a data resource that will shine light on emerging medical trends and treatment options in an unprecedented way. To further the use of evidenced-based medicine, BCBSA has called upon Congress to establish an independent, payer-funded institute that will study the comparative effectiveness of new and existing medical treatments and procedures.

o Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are at the forefront of healthcare transparency by providing their members with online access to real-time information related to provider quality and the cost of common healthcare services. In addition, the Blues have committed to making personal health records available to their members by 2008.

o We are working to ensure that Medicare is funded appropriately and that seniors continue to have access to comprehensive benefits.

    5) The Blues are proud of these efforts and we will continue to work with consumers, providers, employers and the government to provide Americans with the healthcare services and information they need to lead full, healthy lives.

  249. Evil Spaniard says:

Do you think doctors would want to be govt employees?

Would that encourage the brightest minds to turn to medicine where they would make a fraction of what they make now?

Would they be willing to go to school for so many years and have such high student loans to be govt employees?

Your priority may not be making money, but do you want doctors to make $30k-$40K a year?

This drivel is pure ignorance of how works an Universal Healthcare system. We have Universal Healthcare system, but most doctors work only part time for the Universal Healthcare system, and the rest of the time, they do what they want. Work for private hospitals, have its own office, etc.

it’s not an all or nothing. And they still make big bucks.

  250. A Diesel says:

that’s puzzling .. because it’s clear from the insurance based US healthcare system that the US system is even more bureaucratic then the Universal Healthcare systems. … i.e. the fact that a bigger proportion of medical expenses in the US go to pay desk jockeys than people at the medicla coalface.

  254. conserned canadian says:

wow…nice propaganda ladened country we live next to…..thank god it too cold up her for any of those bastards to come up here…sorry i have to go fight the terrorists that are rampant in my country now….but don’t worry if i get hurt i have free health care !!!

  255. Eyeball Kid says:

Fox News really missed the boat with this one. What they didn’t report is that universal health care increases the likelihood that humans will interbreed with baboons, which would make their charismatic leader, George Bush, a prophet when he warned against “human-animal hybrids.”

Since this would be such an astonishing non-sequitor, there would be plenty of air time to extend the argument by blaming the baboons for excessive pheromone production, in classic “blame the victim” fashion.

    The future is now, folks.

  256. Eyeball Kid says:

I would imagine that, given the emergence of fascism, breeding terrorists can be taken quite literally, since anyone who is born at this time in history will likely be very troubled to discover, as s/he develops and grows, that the fascist system of government doesn’t bode well for realizing any human potential, that individual fulfillment is forever stifled for the stability and ruthlessness of the fascist state.

So the “breeding of terrorists” will likely happen, but not in the manner that FoxNews would like us to believe.

Look out for the activation of Executive Order 51. It WILL be activated to keep the neo-cons in control. We WILL see the summary execution of the Constitution before January, 2009. And FoxNews will be there to keep you informed.

(Has there been a coup yet? or did it come in through the back door seven years ago?)

  257. ramblingvine says:

So if terrorists can breed, does that mean they’re not gay? No wonder the right-wing likes terrorists so much…

It’s shameful that FOX News is permitted to present themselves as a credible news outlet.

  258. Covalent Bonder says:

Fox must be a bit desperate for newsiness these days!

Of course, it’s not good that some doctors the NHS employed from overseas might be involved in terrorism, but to say that the NHS is a baaaad idea? That universal health care therefore breeds terrorists? I laughed so hard I nearly fell off my chair.

The NHS has provided free healthcare to British people since 1948, and okay, so it has its problems and waiting lists and such. But it’s been providing FREE HEALTHCARE to the Brits for nearly SIXTY years. That sounds pretty amazing to me.

Fox news never lets me down. Every time I think they cannot possible become any less realistic or any more insane, they top themselves. What next, libraries as jihadist centers? What next; close all libraries in the name of national security???? What about the Department of Motor Vehicles? Secretive, bureaucratic, pervasive, its Got to be a front for Jihadis! Ablolish DMV, in the name of national security!

  262. Liz says:

This is beyond stupid! So if what he says is true, what must follow is that the bureaucracy of the Bush administration is also a breeding ground for terrorists. Whoops! Bet he didn’t mean to say that.

  263. Stephane says:

Imagine if they had to say these reports in front of a live audience. They’d get laughed off the stage. The ONLY way to say something this dumb with a straight face is in a closed studio.

  264. Mikey says:

    What is real terror?

Real Terror is powerful news media programming the weak minds of the public with headlines like…”Universal Healthcare Breeds Terrorists”.

    Fox News is real terror.
    George Bush is real terror.
    Dick Cheney is real terror.
    Tony Snow is real terror.

  265. wow says:

So the argument is bureaucracy leads to terrorism since terrorists will manipulate the system. So, does this mean that terrorists have inflintrated the FBI, CIA and the white house? Perhaps they have even reached into the DMV, from there they will strike into American hearts by issuing licenses to bad drivers… Tom Clancy novel you say? I think so…

  266. Matteo says:

It appears the only real long term solution to terrorism is to abolish doctors.

  267. dick says:

Why are there so many pundits, whose sole purpose is to be just plain idiotic in the name of supporting a buffoons politics. Loose lips sink countries! Pundits are usually right wing and moronic – lets make a black list of them all !

  268. Sims says:

Who is this nut and how much did he get paid for making a fool out of himself?

  269. DickTater says:

What I want to know, is how connected must BigPharma, Insurance, BigMedicine, and BigMedia be in order to issue a Hit like this? Connected at the Hip. They have moles and trolls, who Fox is eager to invite on-air, that are ready to make wild haymaker suggestions like Single Payer Health Care will breed terrorists?

Cavuto, or Bowyers, even Scaife do not believe this crap. They would not have dreamt this angle up. This wasn’t their idea. The whole Corporate Viper Nest is in bed with one another….and the slightest attack on any of their brethren is met with 100% pushback.

This was all quite predictable, and very visible with what happened to Clinton Health Care. They tried to strike a blow for Middle and Lower America. Big Pharm, Big Insurance, and Big Medicine saw the danger to their gravy train. Every Grey Man in a grey suit, who normally likes to operate in the shadows, came forth to STOMP on the Clintons and their fair and sensible and decent proposal. They didn’t just kill the bill, they burned it and doused it in acid. They hung Hillary’s corpse from the Main Gate and dared anyone else to challenge them….see what we did to Hilary? they said.

  270. Chris says:

Yep, Bowyer is correct Canada’s System is infested with Al qa’ida…We should get Duncan Hunter to build a fence on the northern border.
Besides after jumping through all the very easy hoops of my insuracrasy they were able to deny my claim in a matter of minutes it would have taken the government weeks to deny me.

What a jackass, highly paid jackass mind you…

  271. Parrotlover77 says:

I love the statement in a question tactic that Fox uses. It amuses me more every time I see it. As if they can stop the groundswell of pissed off Americans who want better medical coverage with partisan stories and leading questions like this.

Does Dick Cheney kidnap children in the night and eat them?
Does President Bush descend to hell each night to get marching orders from Satan?
Is Karl Rove planning on detonating nuclear war heads in major U.S. cities just for to see what mushroom clouds look like?

I’m not saying any of it’s true — I’m just asking!

  272. snap crackle pop says:

Are there really people in our country that still believe in this BS? Neal Cavuto is a puppet -Get it!

Well the worst is to come as soon as Rupert M. completes his buy-outs of mass media.

  273. Thrilla says:

    Lies Lies Lies…

  274. Joseph Hill says:

“…the big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.” — Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

  275. Walter J. Murdock says:

The preceding message has been brought to you by the good folks at Aetna, Humana and Blue Cross/Blue Shield…

  276. EconAtheist says:

Utter hilarity, if not for the reality that people believe this shit.

  277. Matthew says:

That statement points a finger right at the Bushies. The Idiot in the WH has created the biggest bureaucracy known to man and yes they are professional “terrist” breeders.Witness Iraq.Nothing but a breeding ground.Yea George, good way to beat them there terrists is by breeding more.Typical right wing nutology.

  278. Thomas Leavitt says:

… and of course, the private sector has no bureaucracies at all, as we can all testify to, right? :)

I’d be willing to bet that your average public sector employed MD in this country works as many, or more, hours, for less, than his private sector equivalent, and I’d also be willing to bet that damn few of them are spending their time slacking on the Internet instead of tending patients.

… and of course, single-payer healthcare (ala Medicare and Medicaid) doesn’t mean that your doctor suddenly becomes a government employed bureaucrat ala the NHS in the U.K.

  279. Tom G says:

That is freaking hysterical. The only scary thing about it is that people actually take these complete retards seriously.

  280. leftfordead says:

Actually, I think they just have a bunch of Conservative buzz-words that they put in a pile, and then ala William S. Burroughs and his cut up experiments, they put them together to form sentences. In this case, Terrorism and Free Markets came together, and the rest is history.

  281. nikolai says:

BOO!! Gotcha! (But only if you’re a republican).

  282. Bodie Price says:

Well, they sure know how to run a word into the ground..terrorist. Don’t they know it doesn’t work anymore?

  283. OH says:

    Conservatives: WRONG on health care

  284. NewsSophisticate says:

Same Players. Different Scandal. Just another blessing from the FOX news crew. Oddly enough I just wrote an article on Bill Kristol. Media Pundit? or Policy Maker? This Machiavellian crew keeps usurping power

  285. observe says:

Yeah, the British are in such mortal danger compared to what happened here on September 11. The suspects were successfully *arrested*, oh no!

  286. Stephen Sharp says:

Ok, let’s take this on its most basic level. Let’s assume that EVERY terrorist attack in the Britain in the last 7 years is entirely the fault of national healthcare.

Deaths caused by NHS : 50ish

Deaths prevented by free access to medicine for all citizens? Bet you it’s just a touch more than 50.

For any country to claim to be first world, but restrict healthcare to the rich and lucky is hillarious.

  287. Snarfeh For Anarchy says:

I think Mr. President is indeed Mr. President. Think about it…the logic, or lack thereof, is about the same level. The ability to debate…same level and with no one to tell him what to say, i.e. the transmitter on the back, his true level of intellect shines through clearly…us or them mentality…and face it…does anyone really think Bush is doing anything President-like when he’s in the Oval Office? I bet he wears that Bomber jacket while he plays on the internet…oops, internets, I mean…

  288. Jacob says:

they’re very good at gaming the system with bureaucracies. They’re very good at getting around bureaucracies

It does not matter if it right or wrong that national health care systems are breeding grounds for terrorists. What matters is that YOU (if you wish to be successful) need to learn getting around bureaucracies.

  289. plerf says:

the subject is idiotic, no doubt.

and your comment is as arrogant as the other is stupid.

  290. plerf says:

    that would be comment #1

  291. me says:

“Stupid is as stupid does” –
    +Forest gump

  292. The Presidential Candidates says:

This is a great example of the kind of brainwashing that has lead Americans to believe that our current health care system is acceptable. It’s absolute not acceptable. Not even close.

  293. Jeff says:

    Is this for real?

  294. news hound says:

While reading these posts on the MD terrorists, I realized FOX News has helping them with everything a terrorist could want:
Terror suspects–FOX gives them constant news coverage!
Even though they can’t build a functioning bomb–FOX treats them as “special” and “important”.
Discovering the terrorist’s are MDs–FOX gives them the “Paris Hilton treatment”–non-stop coverage now, even trying to connect the story to something of relevance.
As long as FOX news is there to help them, the terrorists will always be successful–FOX News wouldn’t have it any other way.
Besides, FOX news doesn’t know squat about domestic policy to discuss with any credibility.

  295. Joel K. says:

Despite all the ridicule in the comments above, the underlying point may actually have =some= validity.

We’ve seen in Britain, that the open borders and lavish welfare state (including welfare handouts and “free” health care) have been a big attraction to Jihadis from all over, allowing foreign radical imams to arrive in the UK, radicalize as many British Muslims as possible, all while living off the public tab.

I don’t believe socialist health care =causes= terrorism, but in this case, as one part of the larger social welfare state, it has in some cases facilitated it (irregardless of the fact that it is the best way to provide a poor level of health care to everyone equally, as we have experienced here in Canada).

I highly recommend the good book “Londonistan” (by Melanie Phillips) for more insight on this angle of Islamic terrorism.

  296. Monica says:

Yeah, sure. Universal healthcare is a breeding ground… I guess, that’s why we have all those French, Italian, Austrian, German, Spanish, Swiss, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, Belgian, Finnish, Norwegian… terrorists on this planet. Oh, no, wait a second. There are NO terrorists coming from these countries? Now wait, the terrorists come from the countries where people have NO or insufficient health care like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq.
God give those FOX News people a brain and teach them how to use it.

  297. chriswba says:

As a Brit living in France for the last 12 years, I sadly have to admit that Fox have hit the nail smack bang on the head. I personally have been blown up and killed five times in the Uk, and three times in France, by evil, maniacally-grinning, beard-wearing foreign doctors who are paid fortunes to hand over to Al-Quaida immediately.
Jesus, do some of you REALLY believe this shit?
(And yes, I really am a Brit living in France – the rest was A JOKE for you right-wing knuckle-draggers out there. Get a bleedin’ life. Especially Frank J, who seems to know everything about our health systems over here in Europe.)
    No offence:-)))

  298. opeluboy says:

Um, I believe or 51st state, Israel, also has universal healthcare (for Jews anyway). How come none of these flying monkeys ever accuse them of being socialists? Hmm?

  299. null says:

    …..BWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!@@!!!@!!!!!!

  300. Miro says:

What we need is David Schuster to put the questions to Bowyer–questions like: Why is it when profit margins are threatened (the private health care industry or anything!), the extortion barrons get their PR flacs in front of the cameras to start theatening terrorism.

    Go, Davey Dog Go! Sick-em!

  301. Ren Patel says:

I’m all for Free Speech, but fox news should be banned on grounds that the more air time they get the dumber the RIGHT aka WRONG gets.

  302. Kenny Pennington says:

Wow. Universal healthcare is the only way to go. How can we call ourselves “good” people if we don’t do this.

  303. mike doty says:

Back when Dr.’s were interested in helping people and not getting wealthy from the insurance and pharmecuetical companies….individuals had a chance…now it’s all about the money. Our country has been invaded by greedy sick minded people lured by the corporate dole. What the hell is wrong with a government paid doc that can feel free to run diagnostics and prescribe medicines that have been time proven? He’ll get paid the same and maybe feel better about himself as a human being. If not he should become a corporate lawyer or a politician.

Mike Doty…I’ll post my real name because I am not afraid of you trolls….I am an American and that used to be something pretty damned special before you greedy b*st*rds took over. Now it’s time we real Americans take the reins back. We should start with re-instating the “FAIRNESS DOCTRINE” so that our children can hear all sides of the argument and learn to make decisions on facts rather than propaganda.

  304. mike doty says:

It kills any future doctors who may have Islamists ideas. What do you think of socialized medicine where 40% of your doctors are trained in foreign countries and allowed free entrance to commit mass murder?

How come Moore left this great benefit of socialized medicine out of his movie?

    Comment by Frank J — July 5, 2007 @ 6:23 pm

Look around Einstein, most of the current Dr.’s in America are foreigners. Jeez

    Mike Doty

  305. chriswba says:

I’ll take that as a compliment then null?
    Or……..eh? oh.
    Chris

  306. chriswba says:

“It kills any future doctors who may have Islamists ideas. What do you think of socialized medicine where 40% of your doctors are trained in foreign countries and allowed free entrance to commit mass murder?”

That’s just brilliant, and so US paranoid that it couldn’t be made up.
I personally adore the US, (been there several times, as my sister lives in Az), but this really is too much. Do you wonder why the US under W is probably the most hated country on earth? Think about it matey.
    Chris(boing boing)

  307. Johnathan says:

Bowyer needs to shut the hell up, universal health care would be the best thing for this country. So bowyer I would officially like to tell you to, SHOVE IT!

  308. Ray says:

This guy is an idiot, but this is the plan is to try to change what the debate is about. Fox news and the right do this all the time.
If you are against the war the debate is whether you are against the troops, your lack of patriotism or your a terrorist.
We can’t let the RIGHT change the message or what the issues are we need to focus on one issue National Healthcare for all.

National Healthcare would drive our economy to a higher level due to the increase of small business /entrepreneurship.

I know many people that dream of starting their own business myself included, but are unwilling to risk the loss of their health care provided by their employer. I also know people that took the plunge and one of their biggest concerns is maintaining healthcare
    coverage for their families.

Stay Focused on the message Healthcare For All.

  309. No, thanks. says:

Universal Health Care? I’ve tried it courtesy of the Navy. I’ll happily pass.

  310. Charles Freeland says:

I am just going to add to the long list of advocates for univesal health care and the stop of private insurance companies.

  311. chriswba says:

What have the armed forces got to do with this debate?
Sorry, but that I just don’t understand.

  312. inland empire watcher says:

wow i like the poster at the top saying how the right don’t know how stupid they are. guts hurt from laughing.
being stupid is half the battle. they are totally pwning stuff.

  313. oneblackman says:

LMFAO…….what a ridiculous propaganda piece. FOX NEWS….and you want thinking people to take you serious…oh thats right you dimwits to go ut and start repeating this garbage.

  314. Big Ron says:

Let me see if I have this right…the Social Security Administration, Medicare, and the Department od Defense are breeding grounds for terrorism?

  315. EGB's Smelly Sox says:

Frank, I can see you’ve done a lot of thinking about this Islamic terrorist doctor thing. Do you think fighting the various factions in Iraq is the best way to deal with this threat? How do you think fighting a war in Iraq prevents terrorists disguised as doctors coming into this or any other country?

I know you’re probably being sarcastic, but the answer to the last question is: no, it won’t. One of the doctors involved in this attack was an Iraqi who came to the UK post-Saddam. This is the first terrorist attack with a direct connection to the invasion of Iraq.

  316. Susie says:

Chriswba-the military gets health care, as do our hard-working elected officials, and it’s run more more efficiently than the privates.

  317. Michiganmom says:

This absurdity will be quoted happily by my in-laws as a reason not to support care for all. I’m continually amazed at how this Christian nation can attack other countries, not serve our own citizens, and turn our backs on people who need help (KATRINA?) We are not following Christ. we are following the almighty dollar. War is money. What would happen if the Islamic jihadists suddenly quit, and there was no one to fight? We have this huge military system, so they have to be doing something somewhere. Hmmm, could they be rebuilding the Gulf Coast? Or helping build wells in Africa? I’d much rather my defense dollars went for positive outcomes. I think the only way to thwart the “terrorists” is the way it was done in England, through intelligence gathering, not guns and missiles.

  318. Kathy says:

NSA bureaucracy is the best place for terrorists to hide in.

  319. Jerry Moffitt says:

    Stupid is what stupid does!

  320. Diane Johnson says:

We all know that Jesus would not want everyone to have health care.
My elderly mother has had over 20 different caregivers in the last 3 months as they rotate from week to week. None have health care except those that are on medicare. Only 2 were on medicare. All are caucasians!

  321. Michael says:

Found some good background info on Jerry Bowyers (the person interviewed by Fox News)!!

See here the infamous interview (the info on Jerry Bowyers is in the introduction to the clip):

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=2c-JEx-Kfvc

  322. Gfiebig says:

I find it interesting that the bureacracy that would notice if my doctor is reading Bin Laden fatwas isn’t susceptible to terrorism, but the bureacracy of national healthcare is. Hmmm….

  323. chriswba says:

Susie – thanks for that – but it still doesn’t make sense to me.
The armed forces are a state on their own within a country, so I understand your point, but I don’t see the link with universal, national healthcare for a whole, largely civilian country.
    And michiganmom – well said!
    Chris

  324. chriswba says:

Apart from the religious bit…..:-) sorry missed that first time.

  325. chriswba says:

Has a “normal” civilian like Bin Laden the right to issue Fatwa? I thought that this was something limited to religious leaders like the Mullah. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

  326. Mark says:

I think Fox News has a point. Universal health care DOES lead to terrorism. I also believe that the U.S. Postal Service encourages satan worship, and Social Security causes herpes.

  327. Mark says:

Josh marshall has been doing really good work on this story- he put together a video compelation in today’s TPMtv episode on- http://www.veracifier.com

  328. Robert D. says:

I am a Canadin commenting on the “free” medicare argument.

Last year I had no income and paid no taxes. Despite this I had cataract surgery, treatment for diabetes, renal clinic management monthly– all with mo out-of pocket cost to me except for bus fare.
Further I will likely have home dialysis later this year with equipment in home, training, support, renovations if required — all at no cost to me beyond the taxes paid over my lifetime.
There is no question it is free with NO cost at the point of providing services.
Believe me folks, it works and is always getting better.

  329. Robert D. says:

  330. John Rogers says:

Ummmm…. this was said in a few posts already but I like to reiterate that our whole system almost is made up bureaucracies. Let’s see here to name a few our military, gov’t, education, postal, federal agencies…. my god to think that the neocons are admitting that all of these are suscetible to terrorist infiltration. So, if the neocons are so afraid of bureaucracies then why is the rest of our system full of them?

  331. Jerry Bowyer says:

    Wow, where do I begin?

I never said universal health care breeds terrorism. For the record, I’m for universal health care and have been for some time.
I did say that National Health Services and other similar systems have lower pay scales than private systems which has created a doctor shortage, which indeed it has. This has caused an influx of med workers from the developing world. Looks like some of them were terrorists.

I don’t work for Dick Scaife nor the pharmaceutical companies, but if anyone has a good contact in big Pharma, let me know. I could use the money.

I didn’t attack Sicko. I haven’t seen it, and didn’t even know it was out at the time of the interview.

My hair is not a toupee, and it’s grey, not blonde.

    I’m neither evil, nor stupid.

    I am not a neo-con.

The video-clip omits most of the interview I had with Neal on this topic. I wonder why.

    To the same among you:
    Regards,

    Jerry Bowyer

  332. Chenga says:

they are making health care a big subject for next elections, and they want to dig their fingers deeper into control.

  333. Robert Alston says:

The American Right Wing have reduced humanity to a dollar value; they only see their fellow man as a means to extract money from him, a means to an end, the Right lack humanity, despite calling themselves “christian”.

  334. David L says:

I am a 31 year old guy living in california. Up untill a year ago i had NO insurance whatsoever. I lived in constant fear of getting sick, breaking a bone etc.

I do not agree with everything Mr Moor has said in his movies in the past . But on this movie ‘Sicko’ he moved me to tears.

I am having a very hard time at this moment controlling myself. My mind is SCREAMING out obscenities towards my fellow Americans asking them WHY THE HELL DO YOU LET THIS HAPPEN !!

I am not rich i make less then 10k a year, there are MANY people making 3-4 times as much as me who still can not afford health care for themselves let alone their children.

For god sakes.. If a little country like Cuba can provide free health care for its people why the bloody hell cant we !!!!!!

Corporations are killing this country with their greed.

  335. nina says:

sicko must be having a hell of an effect on fox news………silly morose lying morons trying to use FEAR yet again to scare the public from accepting what is inherently good for them……fools will not realize it till it is too late………
good thing there are sane well balance people out there who can fight for everyone’s right to healthcare and happiness and freedom from war.

  336. bogi666 says:

It’s obvious that no health care is better than a state run health care system. Also, no health care for children is better than Bush’s ideological opposition to children’s health care. This according to Bush promising to veto legislation for children’s health care. But they can’t vote anyway, so screw ‘em and besides such children would just grow up to be Democrats anyway so who needs or wants them.
