Hadley blames military for problems in Iraq.

Two weeks ago, Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) shifted his position on Iraq in a speech on the Senate floor, where he called for a reduction of the U.S. military presence. After the speech, National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley attempted to “calm Republican waters” over Iraq with a visit to the Hill, but his efforts “failed and appeared to some GOP lawmakers to be an effort to put the blame for Iraq War failures on the military.”

    Who’s the commander guy?

  2. toasterhead says:

It’s frightening when this administration gets all its public policy ideas from The Onion: http://www.theonion.com/content/news/bush_maybe_u_s_military_just_not

  3. Zooey says:

Hadley is the Deciderer’s boy, and this is the Deciderer blaming his war on the troops.

Y’all trolls and wingnuts hear that?

  4. Badmoodman says:

Ever read “Fiasco”? The military bears plenty blame too.

  5. Bush is Corrupt says:

Blame should begin with Commander-in-Chief Peed-in-my-pants-on-the-carrier-flightdeck George “Draft Dodger,” “Decider,” “Bring It On” Bush.

  6. RUCerious says:

Leave it to the chicken hawks to blame the troops for their failed misadventures. What a bunch of traitorous dogs.

  7. powkat says:

Actually it was fun to read that conservative website – they are very unhappy campers and that can only be a good thing,

  8. Grand Moff Texan says:

Once again: the Republicans imitate The Onion.

  9. Leporello says:

The military said this war wouldn’t work with 425,000 troops. The dediderer went in with 125,000. What is the matter with this picture? I’m sure the 300,000 troops that we don’t have and didn’t go over there aren’t bothered, but the grunts that are there pounding sand Are Not To Blame. The generals who told the deciderer this pig wouldn’t fly got canned for their trouble. Put the blame squarely where it belongs, its the deciderer guy, not the U.S. military. They are the finest and bravest military in the world. Its not their fault that they got stuck in a war the realistic people knew they couldn’t win, well before that war started.

  10. willyloman says:

Hey, it’s got to be SOMEONE’s fault. How about those guys with no flak jackets? Yeah, how ’bout them?

If we blame the Army, then we can justify more Blackwater contracts!

    Mo Money!

I bet Chimpy wishes running his first 4 businesses was this easy.

  11. veritas says:

Not so easy, Hadley! There is no one to blame for the abysmal failure called the Iraq War than the neocons and GeorgeW. bush; after all, this horrendous and presidency-tanking failure will be the definite “legacy of Bush, the Junior”.

  12. Mr. President says:

    What did he say?

  13. veritas says:

Then when people need to find another purpetrator to blame, they can begin with all of the people who “enabled this dictator” in the first place…..yes, and unfortunately, this blame knows no party affiliation! There were plenty of dems who voted yes as well and should be penalized for that error in judgment. If they are running for office, they should not and will not be reelected.

And, by the time americans are ready to vote again, this singular issue will be the determining factor in whom they elect. This discounts the likes of: Lieberman, Biden, Hillary, Edwards along with those “war monger candidates” like Giuliani & Romney, too.

This war will be declared to be an attrocity of the first magnitude against humanity and anyone associated with it cannot and will not be elected President in this country.

If so, this country will have no chance of surviving the heinous coup upon our democracy which is in progress now.

  14. veritas says:

Hey….here’s something ORIGINAL!! Let’s blame Clinton!! bwahhahahahahahahaha!

  15. Badger says:

The Enemy is SO Unfair. Why don’t they put on Uniforms and get slaughtered by our overwhelming military superiority like they’re supposed to.

  19. willyloman says:

Look. If we had gone in there with 400k troops, it would be over in 6 months.

But that wouldn’t justify staying. Wouldn’t justify all the rebuilding.

Wouldn’t justify the bases and waiting to presure the Iraqis to sign the Hydrocarbon Law.

I think this has gone Exactly the way it was planned.

No one could be this incompetant. There is more profit to make from the quagmire.

In the end, blame the Iraqis (done), blame the Generals (done), and blame the Sec. of Defense (done).

Just don’t look at the emails and blame AEI, PNAC, and the NeoCons.

    Dennis Kucinich

  22. veritas says:

but, unfortunately, we all know that the “lights are on but nobody’s ever been home” at the Shrub’s.

  23. Cobalt 90 says:

This is the Bush administration we are talking about. They can always find someone to scapegoat to avoid accountability…typical of conservative pu**ies.

Making the troops or the military leadership would be political poison. I don’t see them doing that. My bet is that when things become un-spinnable they will deride the Iraqi people for “not trying hard enough”…then trot off to “liberate” Iran.

    ‘Cause jesus loves war!!

  24. veritas says:

#21 Dennis is gaining a great deal of traction now following shrubbie’s last illegal move. Add to that the fact that he is presently engaged in an investigation to reopen 911 and once some of those acrid, rotting details hits the air, the people will find Kucinich as their “savior”.

  25. Cobalt 90 says:

Making the troops or the military leadership would be political poison.

Should read “Making scapegoats of the troops or the military leadership would be political poison.”

I certainly hope you are right. Because since he is calling for campaign finance reform, the MSM wont go near him.

  27. veritas says:

Dontcha just love it: Now that the neocons are being forced into a corner on the war (put up or STFU) they stoop to blaming the military…..those sincere americans who believed the line of bullshit they’ve been fed about what they’re doing over there…..now they’re going to treat them like pariahs! Amazingly degraded thought processes….

Essentially, now the Bush Cabal is “THROWING OUR MILITARY UNDER THE BUS”. With thugs like this running things, when the chips are down and it’s them or anyone/anything else, guess what??? Here comes the bus….

  28. Perry Logan says:

Well, the military is a socialist institution, after all. We are all chipping in to pay for the meals our brave soldiers eat. And isn’t socialism evil?

  29. willyloman says:

and where are the 6 replaced Generals who commanded in Iraq now?

How about that Rumsfeld guy? what was his job before?

  30. veritas says:

Bush’s Bus is moving and on schedule……chug, chug….chug, chug….coming over the hill and let’s prognosticate a bit to see who it’s next victim will be, shall we??

  31. Cobalt 90 says:

Well, the military is a socialist institution, after all. We are all chipping in to pay for the meals our brave soldiers eat. And isn’t socialism evil?

Not to mention all that socialist medical care they get from the VA!

    Hippie freeloaders!

  32. veritas says:

#28 Do you mean Robert Gates? I believe he worked with Pappy Bush’s administration and then worked on the Iraq Study Group.

  33. willyloman says:

And as soon as Gen. Betrayus starts to veer from the company line, he too will be gone.

  34. veritas says:

For Truth: I think the clown wig is actually in the “nostalgia series” of rugs and hairpieces….It’s called the “Buster Brown”!! hahahah!

    Remember Buster Brown??

  35. pgw says:

no way! the guy who cried about needing a ‘war czar’ is again blaming others for his own failures? that’s unpossible.

  36. leftcoast says:

    veritas,
We need a president who does not wish to make a career out of being president. We DO need a president who is willing to loose his or hers second term over a stance. ( Righties, note: going to war is not a true stance; Bush said I am now a War Time President. Meaning don’t change course by electing someone else). Among today’s candidates we need to look ever-so closely to find the one who can reach the level of courage of just a few that we have had in 230 years.

  37. J. Lewd says:

Once the Decider. Now the Derider.

This entire administration — scratch that — the entire conservative movement is populated with snot-nosed crybabies who point a blameful finger at their brother when ever they do something wrong.

As for Hadley, in the words of Bugs Bunny: “What a maroon!”

  38. celtic cynic says:

It’s always someone else’s fault: the damn liberal democrats, Bill Clinton, the damn congress, the damn newspapers, the damn non-believers, the damn students, the nosy reporters, yada yada yada.

  40. upside00 says:

How will this prove that BushCo loves the troops? HMMMM

And I bet this will provide even more reason for the military to vote Repug in 08. Bet those Repugs up for re-election will add that one to their campaign website too!

  41. Marie says:

First, the send them to war ill-equipped.
Then he says war protestors are unpatriotic and don’t support the troops.
Then he forbids the dead to be seen on camera when they return on cargo planes.
Then he tells them their terms are extended.
Then he tells their families their military subsidy is cut.
Then he tells the veterans their benefits are cut.
Then he creates endless red tape that “loses” soldiers in the medical system.
Then he claims he supports the troops.
Then he sends his minions out to blame the troops for the failure.

I don’t understand the VFW and American Legionnaires who continue to support this warmongering liar who has doublecrossed them at every turn.

  42. frylock says:

Blame the Military???????????????? Blame Rummy the dummy and all his cohorts (Wolfowitz, Perle etc.) for the poor planning!!!!

Isn’t the real problem the inability of a government to formulate in Iraq with any sense of coherence ? The main problem being forming a government from the violence created from bottled up religious and ethnic strife/resentment. And of course, the massive levels of corruption (which creates even more resentment) that seems to be everywhere (except for certain parts of the Kurdish regions).

Under Hadley’s logic why is the military in Iraq at all?

  43. bob h says:

He might have a point here-the officer corps is 90% Republican, with the intellectual and character deformities that implies.

  44. Kilo says:

the Military???????????????? Blame Rummy the dummy and all his cohorts (Wolfowitz, Perle etc.) for the poor planning!!!!

    Comment by frylock — July 5, 2007 @ 6:32 pm

What planning would this be ? The military planning that the military develops and implements ?

Yeah that’s Richard Perle’s responsibility isn’t it. And just like in Vietnam his counterinsurgency strategy was found wanting, right ?

  45. aileench says:

While the U.S. government and media keep focusing on defense policies and the war in Iraq, 1.2 billion people in the world continue surviving on less than $1 dollar a day. We should not forget the committment the U.S. made towards the U.N. Millennium Goals (a pact of ending extreme world hunger by the year 2025) in 2000. According to The Borgen Project, an annual $19 billion dollars is needed to end world hunger by the year 2025. To my sense, it is almost unacceptable to have spent so far more than $340 billion in Iraq only, when we have more than war immunities to change the world and eliminate poverty.

  46. nofltwlt says:

Hadley is one of those weenies that it is just so easy to hate. Just imagine how much hatred is headed his way after he blamed the military for the problems in Iraq. Hadley, of all people, knows who is really responsible; he should be a man and spill the beans.

  47. Gregor Samsa says:

Well, it would seem the Bush camp is running out of people to blame for their own mistakes moronic blunders.

After refusing to accept the invasion was a bad idea, and the occupation and even worse one, now they are trying to blame the very people they have used as cannon fodder all these years.

Bush-style support for the troops is putting a yellow ribbon bumper sticker on one’s car and then say “let them eat cake”.

    Compassionate conservatism at its best.
