Soldiers in Iraq become U.S. citizens.

Yesterday on the Fourth of July, 161 U.S. troops became naturalized American citizens. There were supposed to be 163 soldiers, but two were killed in the past month.

Doubt it. If a govt needs a lot of troops, that means the govt doesnt care about the people. If they are sent to die for govts profit, whats good for those poor people?

My heart goes out to the families of the dead as well, but I don’t assume our government will treat them according to the sacrifice of their son or daughter…..not anymore.

Contractors returning home from Iraq with the same combat-related mental health problems that afflict American military personnel, “are largely left on their own to find care, and their problems often go ignored or are inadequately treated.” Many who file claims for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder are denied coverage.

Spare your heart for the dead ones and open your wallet for the living veterans, even if they are mercenaries. They are your mercenaries, punk.

In fact, I find it despicable. The 5-defermements and draft-dodgers warmongers flee from the wars, but sends foreing people (who deserves more than every one of them the USA nationality BEFORE enlisting the military) to kill and/or die for their security.

    Really disgusting.

Like the ancient kings and emperors, sending the armys of slaves to fight for the richesses of the fat, slobby plutocrats.

We always have. They are able to enlist and serve and often they are ‘fast’tracked’ through the system for citizenship. Like any American, they are initially required to serve 8 years (4 active) and often choose to serve a full 20.

    Zooey,

    earns more my answer.

And, as I said, I find it really despicable. The USA has a disfunctional VISA program, and uses citizenship as a bone for these immigrant poor guys, that, at last, are more deserving of USA citizenship that many R’s born already there, and that have done nothing for its country.

Accountability is a farce on the federal level. We the people are sold a bill of goods that the other side will be more accountable yet when they achieve power they behave the same as the last bunch of liars. Yet we continue to chase the ever elusive carrot of just government, suckers that we are. And in the mean time the government gets larger and more powerful and those plutocrats laugh all the way to the bank.

I can tell! Maybe one day you’ll be “our Sgt Higgins?” Heh.

Drinking the kool-aid is quite appropriate in Daryll’s case, since that phrase originated with the horrifying Jim Jones cult mass suicide in the 70s.

  22. toasterhead says:

But but but if they become U.S. citizens, aren’t they just going to leave the military? Immigrants are supposed to do the jobs Americans won’t do, right?

  23. pgw says:

“yet when they achieve power they behave the same as the last bunch of liars.”

you forgot the part about how when a certain party achieved power and held investigations, the other side screamed ‘witch hunt’ or ‘fishing expedition’; when that party gathered relevant testimony, the other side screamed ’show trials’; and when that party issued subpoenas, the other side ignored them.

#21 – Well, I have found that the people that are as vocally opposed to equal rights for gays as Daryll has been have something to hide.

Oh, or did they voluntarily give you that information? “Oh, by the way, in case you’re wondering…I’m so opposed to equal rights for gays…because I AM one”. ?????????? That doesn’t even make sense. Who argues against rights for themselves?

Yes: They are serving in our military and fighting in our war.
No: They are not securing our freedom — none of our people over there are securing any freedom, since our freedom is being eroded from within our own Executive Branch.
    Yes: They certainly deserve citizenship.

The comments about that derive from the highly-visible Ted Haggard sort of event. As a generalization, I think it’s absurd, but cases like Ted do tend to stick in the mind.

And, on an individual basis, closeted gay men really do over-protest their own heterosexuality.

    Comment by SGT Higgins

It’s the degree of opposition, not simply the opposition, Sarge. Psychologically, it’s been found that often those who are rabidly against something, such as homosexuality, are hiding a deep loathing and self hatred because they know deep down they are gay, or fear they are gay.

Look at Ted Haggard — he’s a perfect example of a self-loathing gay man.

    Things don’t always make sense….

  38. SGT Higgins says:

    Comment by Evil Spaniard — July 5, 2007 @ 10:23 am

I believe most Republicans to be worthy of citizenship in this country. And we can’t grant too many visas (especially work visas) because that creates “native poor guys” by driving down wages, etc., in general. Yes, there is labor-in-demand that immigrants would like meet, but I believe in a restrictive visa program. My own mother waited in line to come to this country in the 1980’s on a visa and continued to wait patiently to become a citizen in 1991.

Comment by CT_V1, Dean of Dissent

This is the kind of propaganda that makes American look so DUMB around the world. From who those soldiers secured your freedom? Who planned to take your liberties away?

Do you remember when JFK said that Cuba was a threat to the US? I guess you or your parents really believed that. JFK even asked Mexico to support them in these invention. And the Mexican official told him: If I told the Mexicans that Cuba is a threat to them, 40 million Mexicans will laugh to death.

First the Nazis, then it was the commies, then Sandinistas, then illegal aliens, then Muslims… what a load of crap. A lot of enemies that threat your freedoms, yeah, right, meanwhile your corporations continue to pillage every single developing country in the world.

Your freedom…come on, when was the last time you have to fight for your freedom? I hate this BS.

  45. Muckraker says:

    Juan,

Believe it or not, we are fighting for our freedoms right now. You think peoples freedoms were threatened after 9/11? You think some people feared getting into an airplane afraid it was going to get highjacked and rammed into a building? To me fighting for our freedom means we fight to live our lives how we want to. Free from fear.

  46. Juan C says:

I agree. Military based governments along history need to inspire fear to its citizens in order to get their economic goals flowing. Someone remebers the Jew threat against the Christian virtue of Fatherland? Or the Capitalist threat against the values of Communism? Its all the same with different flavors.

Equal rights for gays is a constitutional right, not one you determine.

A war economy based country. Just like Volkswagen supporting Hitler to invade Europe in order to sell more cars.

No, your govt doesnt need to explicitly take you out in the middle of the night. Just tells you that there is somebody that wants to blow you up everyday becuz he hates you for wearing trousers from the Gap.

If we only knew how many have been so taken. The Patriot acts, the military commissions act etc. allow the government (read George Bush) to secretly and permanently “disappear” people.
