Cheney lies caught on tape.

Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Films has launched a new video laying out the evidence for the articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney. Watch it:

  1. unbelievable says:

If it takes a documentary to get the Average American to pay attention to reality, then so be it…

Cheney should not only be Impeached, but incarcerated for the rest of his unnatural life…

  2. Raven says:

Just let his battery go dead.
Cheaper for us taxpayers that way.

  3. Badmoodman says:

Wow, that’s some snazzy Mannix-like music they mixed in.

  4. b40 says:

This whole talk of impeaching GW is great, but lets not forget to get rid of Darth Cheney first.

  5. TripMaster Monkey says:

After impeachment, Cheney and the rest of this criminal cabal that has hijacked our nation need to be remanded to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes.

Unless this is done, we will never regain any semblance of respect from the rest of the world (not that we had a whole lot before this whole nightmarish ordeal).

  6. Subvet says:

How comforting to have that slimy yellow bellied draft dodging coward sending thousands to there deaths in the name of war profiteering and oil revenues. 5 deferment Cheney is heading for the trash bin of history with his puppet George.

How about a big Impeachment sendoff to the vice-coward-in-chief. GFY Dick Cheney!

  7. veritas says:

Maybe now we can also dig deeper into his shooting episode and the uncharacteristically long period of time before he took a breathalyzer?? DUI #4 would definitely besmerch his record; that is, what’s not been expunged.

  8. veritas says:

Now let’s get these “lies caught on tape” to all prime media outlets for the rest of the country to see for themselves! Some patriot has to do it!! It’s all there and he can’t blame anyone but himself now.

  9. veritas says:

Let’s light a fire under Congress by sending each one of them this video and demanding impeachment now!! Anyone got email addresses for the group?

  10. Com_n_sense says:

Only three articles of impeachment? This thread doesn’t have the room to list the impeachable crimes, and the out-right criminal ones that this most despicable of men has committed.

  11. Keith H. says:

Of course he should be impeached.
    That’s pretty much a no-brainer.

It’s really too bad that criminals the likes of Cheney aren’t impeached then put on trial, for whatever reasons are claimed at any given time.
It really shows that our government propagates criminals at the highest level.

To be the ultimate criminal, and get away with it, just have World Oil and the Military Complex install you into a high level government position, then tow their line and hand out no-bid reconstruction contracts worth gazillions.
He’s a company man, that Dick.

  12. MechInf says:

What about his ties to the Plame scandal? Cheney ordered his Chief of Staff to out a CIA operative to the national media. Also, what about the US Attorney scandal? Cheney helped to fire US Attorneys in order to either obstruct on-going cases against his business cronies (Abramoff, Duke Cunningham, etc.), and to make false charges against Democrats. What about the warrantless spying? That is a clear violation of the Constitution, and Cheney continues to order that illegal spying on American citizens. What about condoning torture, in violationg of the Geneva Conventions???

That video was nice, but they only presented the tip of the ice berg of the anti-American monster that is Dick Cheney.

  13. Phylo Se Fiser says:

Yes, impeach him. But what’s with the music and the graphics? It sort of gives a comic flavor to the video which totally undermines the intent. I also think it needs an editor. It could’ve been half the length and still said everything that needed to be said. Normally I like Greenwald’s stuff but this is poor quality production.

  14. Shelley says:

Let’s at least get the Dems to explain why they don’t already know this.

  15. MechInf says:

To continue my statements above, what about the fact that the Vice President refuses all forms of oversight, illegally used RNC and private emails accounts for official executive functions (violating the Hatch Act), and also the fact that he considers the Office of Vice President to be it’s own entity separate from both the Executive and Legislative Branches???

I think they could have taken this MUCH further. There’s way more than just lying us into Iraq.

  16. JT says:

Greenwald has a great take on this and the right idea. Though the music is way off. This is serious, constitutional stuff. Orchestral material would have been more appropriate instead of the heavy Matrix type.

Great content. Now if we can only convince the Democratic Leadership that the vast majority of Americans have a growing rage toward this administration and the “still do nothing Congress”.

  17. Georgette Orwell says:

In clear violation of his constitutional duty, Cheney has done many, many more things than these to destroy the Constitution. Going into detail on only three (which actually could be combined into one) vastly understates the severity of his iniquity. The length of this clip might be sufficient only to list what few things he *hasn’t* done to violate his oath.

And, as a writer and former broadcast producer, I must agree with #16’s critique of the quality.

  18. Dr. Eric L. Christian says:

Comment 16 is exactly the reaction I had. It utterly lacks the needed air of respecability and seriousness of the crimes and the hard work and patriotism of the people that have been formulating the articles of impeachment in the first place.

  19. CT_V1 says:

    CHENEY 2008!!!!!

  20. Yikes says:

Cheney can’t impeached. It’s in his constitution.

  21. Lupeyg2 says:

Do you know how to tell when Dick Cheney is lying?

Sound is coming out of his mouth. Ba-dum-Cha!

Seriously – Cheney is the greatest threat to America since….EVER.

  22. willyloman says:

I also didn’t think the tone of the mini film was appropriate for the subject matter.

And why is there no mention of no-bid contracts to a company he still has stock in and still pays him; secrecy of the OVP to the exclusion of law; all the graft and mismanagement of the people he hand picked for the rebuilding of Iraq.

it almost seems as if his heart wasn’t in it. Almost like he wanted it to ba a parody of the Impeachment Movement that the Faux News Boys could pick apart.

I think it diminishes the strength of some of the arguments.

  23. Raven says:

“It utterly lacks the needed air of respecability and seriousness of the crimes and the hard work and patriotism of the people that have been formulating the articles of impeachment in the first place.”

Comment by Dr. Eric L. Christian

We have to remember the legions of video-game playing, cell phone ring-tone addicts out there who have grown up in a Matrix-like culture, and who need to be reached.

  24. Marie says:

Isn’t his black heart going to have a battery recharge soon? That’s on the taxpayer.
The rest of us scramble for insurance coverage and deal with the denials and red tape, while Darth Vader gets his heart recharged on a regular basis at our expense —- in more ways than one.

  25. willyloman says:

    comment 18. Comment by MechInf

I wanted to include these things in my post on 26 but, you can only charge him with the things we can prove right now, and since Libby obstructed justice and his office wont reply to the supeanas, then the evidence is not available to prove his connection to these things.

But I agree, more could have been done with the film.

  26. Quizmos says:

In God We Trust, or in Bush/Cheney we trust? Is what you see before you the work of God? Are fear and hatred the tools God uses to bring you and me to Him? Did Jesus pursue wealth and power or use political leadership to attain either? Did He perform even one miracle against His fellow man? Did He use His extraordinary powers to lead any nation against any other? Does swords to plow shares mean using the greatest military power in the world to preemptively kill those who have done nothing to us? Would you consider what happened to Jesus on His cross to be torture? Is there a caveat to “Thou shall not kill? If America truly trusts in God then we will follow His ways and rid our nation’s leadership of those who would lead us from Him! “Forgive us our trespasses, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” is what we pray, but we must choose who we follow.

  27. Jay Randal says:

LOL Darth Dicky Cheney was born a pathological liar.

  28. Bush is Corrupt. says:

strong>”Cheney ‘08″? Hahahahaha! Hilarious. I would L-O-V-E to see Cheney on the Republican ticket. Republicans are already looking to get a gigantic spanking in the 2008 election and having Cheney on the ticket will make the loss so large you would CRY YOURSELF TO SLEEP. Hahahahaha!

How about a Cheney/Guiliani ticket?? Even better! Two incompetent, demonstrably corrupt leaders. One with a gay daughter and one divorced three times and who wears dresses! Oh, the Christian Right base will love that!

.. This oughtta be fun! BRING IT ON.

  29. billy says:

Nah. None of it will stick. Article I: He’ll just say that he was relying on intelligence reports. Article II: He’ll say that he didn’t personally manipulate anything. That he relied on the expertise of those in the positions at the Pentagon and intelligence agencies. Article III: He’ll just say that he wasn’t “ruling out the option” of an attack.

  30. Kay says:

What scares me the bone is Chimpy declaring Martial Law after The Next 9/11 (self-inflicted, of course) — then 2008 elections are cancelled — and guess what folks. The 4th Reich.

  31. Kay says:

What scares me to the bone is Chimpy declaring Martial Law after The Next 9/11 (self-inflicted, of course) — then 2008 elections are cancelled — and guess what folks. The 4th Reich.

  32. robert greenwald says:

thanks for all the comments and passion on this. We hope the video campaign will reach hundreds of thousands who care but havent seen it all put together. And yes, we decided on this one to reach an audience affected and moved by music and mood, to get their hearts and then their heads…. fight on robert greenwald

  33. cal says:

While I’d love to see Cheney impeached as much as ayone else, none of these charges have a chance in hell of sticking. It has to be a clear, direct, criminal violation of law in order for the average person to believe it (ie. authorizing a break-in). These three “charges” can simply be invalidated by saying “he was wrong” not “it was illegal.”

I think the Hatch Act, the RNC emails and denying the subpoenas may be the best possibilities for actual lawbreaking.

  34. TripMaster Monkey says:

    Kay sez:

What scares me to the bone is Chimpy declaring Martial Law after The Next 9/11 (self-inflicted, of course) — then 2008 elections are cancelled — and guess what folks. The 4th Reich.

While that is certainly a nightmarishly possible scenario at this point, remember that this junta doesn’t really need to cancel elections and declare martial law. The 2000 and 2004 “elections” stand as eloquent testimony to the prowess of the neocon election-rigging machine. All they’ll need is a few more “terrorist incidents” to keep the right mindset in November 2008, and then, they can justify the improbable election of their latest puppet with the “Americans chose security” talking point that served them so well in 2004.

Martial law will consume too many resources, and worse still, will tip off even the dullest Americans that something is horribly wrong with the country they celebrate every year by gorging themselves on barbecue, drinking themselves insensible, and setting off explosives in their backyards. Faced with martial law and a suspension of elections, the American Public may just wake up, and that’s a risk the neocons dare not take.

  35. Al Gore says:

Don’t forget that he didn’t invent the internet, nor is he green. My kid’s Prius can do 100 mph for hours on a single tank of gas. Can he say the same for his SUVs? I didn’t think so.

    This is great:

    RIGHT!!!!!!!!

  36. croatoan says:

The examples of Cheney’s malfeasance are good, but the video sucks. It’s way too over-the-top.

  37. Kane Jeeves says:

Are you crazy? The conservative titanic is sinking, the base is running around the deck like chickens without heads, and you want to give them something to rally around? Don’t forget, by and large these folks are religious zealots too. Nothing makes them support their savior more than persecution, facts be damned.

  38. Dagny says:

The House has to start the impeachment process
(although, as pointed out on another blog, citizens
can directly petition a judge to start the process).

For those of you outside her district, Speaker Pelosi
    can be reached at AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov;
    if you’re from the 8th district: sf.nancy@mail.house.gov
(as posted on her website: http://www.house.gov/pelosi/contact/contact.html).

  39. Al Gore says:

    Everybody, listen to me,
    And return me, my ship.

I’m your Captain, I’m your Captain
    though I’m feeling mighty sick

(I’ve got a fever, just like our planet).

Join me for Live Earth – the concert series that the non-partisan Cato Institute says “will accomplish nothing but feel-good environmentalism” and will use more power than my 10,000 sqft house! It’s collossal. It’s amazing. It’s more absurd than a bunch of progressives claiming impartiality.

  40. lestatdelc says:

The video is rather week because it doesn’t present the arguments about how his claims and lies were in fact lies and false claims.

  41. Al Gore says:

lestatdelc – you noticed that too?

  42. Karim says:

Cheney needs to be given the needle.

  43. trippin says:

Would someone chain Pelosi’s wrinkled ass to a chair and force her to watch this?

Oh, never mind — they’re all on the same side — and it ain’t our side.

  44. Sriram Srinivasan says:

I’ll be at the front of the line calling for Cheney’s impeachment. However, this video has nothing by way of “evidence”. All he has to do (and done) is lay the blame on “bad intel”. The “Daily Show” has shown more footage than this piece.

You have to show real hard evidence that he wrote to people calling for war before 911.

  45. Melissa says:

    To Trippin,
I am afraid you are right. So how do we get our side heard?

  46. Al Gore says:

Melissa – what is your side?

As a public servant, I can assure you that any political side is the wrong side. Oh, I didn’t mean that the way it sounded.

“Carbon Credits – The Other Investment.”

  47. TJ says:

Let’s at least get the Dems to explain why they don’t already know this.

I guess you’re saying that the Repugs already know this, and have done nothing. That I agree with.

  48. Political Voyuer says:

The video is rather week because it doesn’t present the arguments about how his claims and lies were in fact lies and false claims.

  49. Andrew H. Smith says:

To the “Al Gore” poster: You seem to think you are so terribly clever. What you are is a pathetic and witless windbag. Are you capable of logical, fact-based discourse? You seem to think that attacking the former vice-president and his family is an answer to the charges against Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush.

By the way, to call the Cato Institute “non-partisan” is disingenuous. would be like calling the John Birch Society non-partisan. What you omit to say comcerning Cato is that it represents such an extremist perspective that neither party would embrace its overall perspective.

  50. richard thornton says:

    But what will you DO?

  51. Probus says:

Cheney deserves to be impeached and convicted for lying to the American people about Iraq’s nonexistent WMDs and that there was no connection between Saddam and bin Laden despite what he said. I would like to see impeachment proceedings against this president. The buck stops with the president.

He is responsible for every action his administration makes. He lied about Iraq’s purchase of yellow cake uranium. He also is responsible for the outing of covert agent for the CIA Valerie Plame. Also if Bush commuted Libby’s sentence to protect himself then he committed a crime and deserves impeachment and conviction.

  52. Casey says:

I’m all for getting rid of cheney, but that video was weak sauce.

  53. AmericanIdiot says:

How about an ammendment to the Constitution
forbidding high office to known cyborgs.
Cheney is the real six million dollar man
except his only power is falsehood and chutzpah!

  54. greg says:

Were was Dick on the morning of 9/11 and what was he doing. I read a thred on google under Cheney, a thred that Cheney met with the company in the middle east, believe Saudi of the last name ale quida and was useing promis software to work an exercize involveing the military that mimicked 9/11 to abought the TEE throwing off the early warning systems protecting this country by putting fake blimps and fake hijack aircraft on the radar scopes. Standing down the quick responce because all couldn’t figure out what was real and what was not. Could there be a direct relationship Cheney and SS with ale quida the days preceeding 9/11. All the key players are dead now probably. Let’s SEE. The thred could be propaganda but when we go for this impeachment process lets go all the way back to before and up to 9/11 even though we all might not want to see it. Was Cheney acting as Commander N Chief and running that exercise on the day and just before 9/11. That would be quite a coinsidence.

  55. sena says:

Please everyone look at the real person who is leading this country.
Karl Rowe ’s back ground can be found on wickipedia and it is true.
He has done more dirt for the old man Bush and now the new “son” lit day… Then there is Marven BUSH, you never hear about . Research these people and all your fears will be your worse nightmare…I fear not…………..
All of the rich wall street people are in this as well.
They own the news co. They lobby them in…money money..We don’t vote these people in.. This bad for all of us.
They even make our money for us, our goverment is indebted to them because we pay income tax , and there is no law stating we must , it was never ratified by all the states.
That money is used for war, and making thses people so rich they can invade anyone at any time .
Old man Bushes own mouth said, we will have a new “world” order..Do we want this!
Wall street is stealing our money as well.It is in the constitution that no man can take what you work for or invade your home or put you in jail for no reason ,every day you hear of our police doing over kill.
Why to make us fear them, the rich one’s .They the rich can make thing’s happen and make you think somone else is at fault.
They are dumbing our kids and people who watch the propaganda the no good news, programs you for junk and lies.
How do we fight them, we need a real world wide news company of our own and tell the world its countries are in trouble too..
    Thank you for reading………………………….

  56. tc4sure says:

Didn’t we condem the Soviet Union in the past for having secret prisons, Torture and requiring special papers for free movement? So if they were the evil empire, what does that make us? Both the Pres. and VP should be impeached for shredding our constitutional rights, aggressively and pre emptly starting a foreign war. The only way to show the world we deserve respect is to try these two as the war criminals that they are. Otherwise we wil read next the changing of the spelling of America to AMERIKA! I also believe that only a president that has seen a tour of active duty should be allowed to send troops into harms way. Or he must consent to a front line patrol one weekend every 2 months.

  57. Clams Casino says:

I agree with the message, but the amateurish and painfully unserious tone of the video really works against the cause. This is something that should be discussed soberly and intelligently, not with Fox-style splash graphics, ridiculous music, and cheesy movie-trailer voiceovers. Embarrassing.

  58. josnnegmurphy says:

And what about the illegal diversion of $700 million in 2002 from the war in Afghanistan to Iraq? That ALONE is impeachable, and no one is even talking about it.

  59. Maloney Sing says:

I guess the producer to this idiot film forgets the massacre of the Kurds by the hand of Hussein using WMD.

He appears to be ignorant of a few facts regarding the Al Queda connection and Iraq, too.

    http://www.wnd.com/news/printer-friendly.asp?ARTICLE_ID=56020

  60. Yogi One says:

This is a good little piece about an idiot indeed. We all remember the massacre of the Kurds and the massacre of a lot of Iranians too, much of which events the Reagan crowd applauded, especially Don Rumsfeld.
I like the comment about letting Cheney’s battery go dead to save money for the taxpayers. Who will be president after Bush and Cheney are impeached? Condi Rice or Alexander Haig?

  61. art swenson says:

Dick Cheney Is a wonderful guy.

  62. art swenson says:

Why dont you go after that drunk Kennedy that dround that lady while drunk you know TED. Heres a sit that is as american as APPLE PIE.
