Hagel: Libby commutation is ‘unfortunate.’

In an interview with Action Three News in Omaha, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) said today that he felt the commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence was “unfortunate.” Contacted by ThinkProgress, his office refused to give more details about Hagel’s views, saying that it would “refer you back to the Senator’s own words.”

unfortunate? How about patently illegal when the privilege is used to shield one’s own crime??

  2. Buck Fush says:

Unfortunate? How about unforgiveable, or maybe unlawful.
How about I tell someone to commit treason and when they get caught lieing about it, then I get to get them off scott free because they might rat me out for telling them to do it in the first place.

    CT_V1 your still an idiot.

  3. sponson says:

It’s “unfortunate” for Hagel because he has an (R-) in front his name. That’s what he meant.

  4. Not Canadian says:

All Presidential pardons are WRONG, not merely “unfortunate”.

  5. Gerald Gibson says:

How is this any different from a mob boss becoming mayor of New York and then letting his cronies off for doing his dirty deeds?

  6. cjmartinez says:

It’s not illegal. Impeachable, but not illegal.

  7. dixie blood says:

    Hey Chuck H.,

I guess you just don’t have a set of ovaries/balls after all, uh?

  8. CT_V1 says:

CT_V1 your (sic) still an idiot.

Talking points, my friend. All talking points.

When is Hagel up for reelection, anyway?

Mr. Butt Slush, grow a pair.

    Stupid is what stupid does

  10. CT_V1 says:

No matter what any pandering cheap Republicans say, Mr. Libby’s commutation (and hopeful pardon) is completely appropriate.

Drop the issue, ‘crats. You have no traction .

  11. Justice says:

ah yes folks, 12 BILLION A MONTH OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK.

That is enough to not only completely repair and rebuild NO but feed, house, educate the ENTIRE nation. Plenty left over to provide all Americans with a single payer top notch Healtcare system while they are at it. Instead they lie to us, steal our money and kill people and line their corporate packets. The WH is a cabal who’s conspiracy of lies are TREASONOUS and their theft of our money to commit an illegal war warrants their removal and trial at the Hague charged with CONSPIRACY to commit an illegal war! We need them out NOW not in a year and a half. We need our soldiers HOME. This has gone on long enough, send in the Capitol police and arrest the criminals!

NYC and all of it’s mayors have never had influence over the Fed. Gov.

NYC is not a participant in the Fed. stucture (Leg., Exec., Jud.)

    NYC cannot CORRUPT the DOJ!!!!

NYC cleaned up it’s shit!! Where’s GW Botch on this?

NYC cannot launch illegal wars against other countries!!!

NYC cannot influence foreign policy!!! It doesn’t even have control of the Diplomatic plates the state hands out to outsiders with no accountability to the city or the state!!!

    “letting his cronies off”
Exactly how and when has this happened in NYC?? I didn’t know the mayor of NY had any judiciary powers…Any evidence there???

    Must I go on?…..

Scooter & The Commuter: When Presidents Pardon Their Own Crimes

Guess what Scooter and the Shrub have as their common denominator?? You got it: Dick

  14. veritas says:

Hey Hagel: How many ways can you say: QUID PRO QUO?? And, BTW, in case you’re interested it’s “highly illegal”. Now get with the program and indict these criminals who have obstructed justice.

    ConcernTroll 3050 reports:

CT_V1 is correct. Democrats should just drop this. There is nothing illegal about the pardon, and I’m concerned that Democrats could overreach and look foolish. They could look partisan and vindictive.

I’m just saying this as a concerned Democrat, that’s all.

  16. Mr. President says:

    ConcernTroll 3050,

THE LEFTIES ON HERE ALREADY LOOK FOOLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST ABOUT EVERTTHING THEY SAY IS FOOLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently so because I have no clue what you are talking about… Are you anti NY or something?

    “letting his cronies off”
Exactly how and when has this happened in NYC??

That really wasn’t the point was it? You dont like the Mayor analogy ok… Governor of NY… whatever?

The point being a mob boss (crook) i.e Bush/Cheney get political power and use it to let their cronies break the law by using the pardon ability to allow them to get away with anything.

  18. Gerald Gibson says:

    Comment by Mr. President

So says the people that were wrong about everything and dont have the integrity to admit it…

  19. LandSurveyor says:

What has Hagel done for you lately? F*** Hagel.

  20. dixie blood says:

    “pardon ability?”

    Comment by Gerald Gibson — July 6, 2007 @ 4:38 pm

What mayor has this power?? Not just NYC! Where?

You also convienently ignored my comments about the power of the Fed vs. a State…

  21. maeme says:

My guess is that they (Bush Crime Family) has something on Hagel. He has acted like neutered pup since he announced his press conference where he announced nothing.

The only folks that they are wiretapping is the members of Congress — to keep them in line.

  22. Shirley says:

Looks like Chucky Hagel is being groomed by the MSM to be a pssoible leader some day. They want him to look as much like a Democrat as possible while still furthering the wealth of the few over the needs of the many.
Don’t believe a god damned thing Hagel says. He’s simply distancing hiumself from Bush to grab the progressive vote. He’s still a scumbag Republican.

  23. Quizmos says:

What is unfortunate is that Hagel is little more than an opportunist. He looks both ways then jumps in on the top of the pile. Chuck stands for very little on his own, integrity is not his strong point. Lastly, in cowardice fashion, he runs from his words like a school boy who shot his mouth off to a bully on the playground. What a disappointment.

  24. Ben says:

All I know is that Hagel better get all the air time on MEET THE PRESS, etc. that he can now—because come Nov. of ‘08 he’ll be kicked out the senate by Nebraskans fed up with his ego. Hagel voted in favor of the immigration bill when the VAST majority of Nebraskans opposed it. Good luck in the private sector Chuck, because Jon Bruning will be our next Senator. Get an apartment in Georgetown and sit in the National Mall and feed the pigeons. God knows Nebraska doesn’t need you.
