Iraq war costs could top $1.4 trillion.

According to a new report by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, “in the first half of this fiscal year, the Defense Department’s “average monthly obligations for contracts and pay is running about $12 billion per month, well above the $8.7 billion in FY2006.” Additionally, depending on troop levels, total funding could reach “about $980 billion to $1.4 trillion by 2017.”

Clinton sent us to war in Kosovo were there was no oil which we desperately need and our military is STILL there.

Under Clinton his inept and corrupt Reno led the attacks on Americans in Ruby Ridge and Waco. At least the initial invasion of Iraq went better than that.

Thank you, Bush cultists, for the horrible chaos you were accomplices in creating. Thanks for nothing.

They could easily have not funded the war but they lacked the spine. They have betrayed us all.

  40. hellinabucket Says:

  41. Jackie Says:

American love that fact that the Bush Administration is spending all this money on waste. American believe that it's ok for the GOP to steal taxpayers money and leave hard working Americans with nothing. Look Bush took the soldiers money for medical care and after two days Americans had no problem letting our troops live like dogs and get no medical help. It's more important that the Iraq people and the terrorist get the best health care. The price tag for the Bush Administration will be cost to 7 trillion dollars and yes it will be blamed on Bill Clinton.
Now when the next President says taxes have to go up it will be blamed on the Democrats not one GOP will be blamed. Bush has successfully made Americans dumb and stupid who will follow idiots and just say what their told. Libby used taxpayers money to pay his criminal fine and Americans have no problem paying a convicted felon's fines.

  42. Tundra Says:

When do the other two branches wake up and say “no” the funding is wrong and illegal?

The day they really want to wake up. Right now the war is rallying people around them like they have never seen. The campaign money is coming in hand over fist for the Democrat candidates, there are no complaints about campaign finance issues this time, the small donors are all going to them. They have no real interest in ending the war, until after the election.

I think they are all playing watch the left hand with the war.

The conservatives will plan on a huge push in anti insurgent activity in the half year before the election (Which will result in less attacks and increased stability over there). "Find" Bin Laden and capture/put him on trial.

Their numbers will go up, the dems got the up front cash, everyone is happy, they meet for beer later and giggle.

  45. Rick Says:

"Under Clinton his inept and corrupt Reno led the attacks on Americans in Ruby Ridge and Waco. At least the initial invasion of Iraq went better than that."

I'll give you Waco, but Ruby Ridge? That happened in August of 1992.

So how come Koresh didn't just surrender to the ATF when they launched their initial raid? Why did he and his followers open fire on the ATF?
And lastly, should the feds have just left the Branch Davidians alone?

If it had been a raid on a crackhouse in South Central LA where the gangmembers opened fire on federal agents, and a number of children were killed, would there still be an outcry about rights violations, excessive force, and abuse of power?

I posed that same question to my conservative brother recently and he immediately got angry stating that nobody would have known. This is one of their core faults and it's also something they refuse to acknowledge. 5 years of supplemental funding without a single plan to pay for this is irresponsible and has damaged this country for years to come.

I said this earlier, What happened to the fiscally responsible republicans? Gone the way of the Dodo I suppose.

  75. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

And why he has been so wrong about how much it would cost.

    Comment by Probus

Well outside the fact that Herr Brusch is one painfully dumb sack of doorknobs, I've read a couple of times over the last few yrs that the secret GOP "master plan" ** cough... cough...** is to run up such a huge deficit for the government tht it collapses, has to sell off all it's "assets" (bye-bye national parks...), and retract permanently.

This was supposedly begun by Reagan, who, until Brusch came along, held the dubious distinction of running up the worst deficits in US history. Brushc is now BY FAR the big Weiner! He has run up a bigger debt than ALL prior presidents combined, including Ray-gun.

Sounds far-fetched? Look at what's happening. Who was that sleaze from CA who got bounced out of Congress last fall - Pombo? Wasn't he the one pushing to sell off parks?

  76. david Says:

What to make of the bizarre echo signatures of Troll and Mr Pee in posts #24 and #25 respectively? I'm no techno-geek, but I took it as proof Mr Pee and Troll were one and the same.

It's particularly sad when trolls need to converse with themselves.

BTW, m12, do you know if that $1.4 trillion includes the costs of treating the wounded veterans coming home? I suspect not. Now that's socialized medicine that ain't even necessary. No war, no wounded.

And with universal healthcare, you have something to show at the end of the day: a healthy public working hard to build a nation. What is war good for? Absolutely NOTHING. It's pure waste and destruction. That $1.4 trillion has just been p!ssed away by neo-cons who believe the stupid fallacy of the broken shop window.

I know why the neo-cons are sh!tting bricks. There will be a massive inquiry in 2009 and dozens will be going down. How many White House officials have resigned so far this year? Rats leaving a sinking ship. And remember: one of Bush's first presidential directives was sealing the papers of Reagan and Pappy Bush. A curious thing. Would we know of wrongdoing patterns had we'd been able to read what tricks this Gang Who Can't Shoot Straight had been up to in 1987?

  77. david Says:

All wars are hideously expensive. They always have been. That's why most people in other countries wonder why America always wants to go for the military solution. It makes no friends and it's incredibly wasteful.

The Middle East has largely been a cash sinkhole ever since the failure to resolve the Six Day War. It's never ended, really.

BTW, what was with the drunken Mr Pee trying to pick fights with a non-existent ace. I take it he can't deal with ordinary folks, he needs an arch-nemesis.

  78. Briseadh na Faire Says:

The amounts suggested by BushCo in the runup to the war are on the Architects of the War page.

The 1.7 billion was for rebuilding. 50- 60 billion was estimated for the war.

Some of us had food stuff flying out of our noses when we heard the estimates. (Lesson, never listen to the news while eating).

Wars are financed by fiat money. Fiat = faux. Which is, in the electronic age, not even much paper. The Federal Reserve System, which is not actually part of the US Government - just a bunch of the biggest banks in the East Coast Financial District- loans the US Government the money. It doesn't have the money, it just issues a Federal Reserve Note, the US Government enters that amount into their accounts, and it is added to the economy. Pretty nifty huh?

We end up paying for this through inflation. That's why it hit double digits under Carter. Are you prepared for what it will get to soon?

WHY do CEOs need to make $400 million a year?

    Doncha love GOP math?

There were not 900k refugees as they predicted.

    Yup, we were wrong:

Warning over spiralling Iraq refugee crisis

    Matt Weaver
    Thursday December 7, 2006
    Guardian Unlimited

The surging violence in Iraq has created what is becoming the biggest refugee crisis in the world, a humanitarian group said today.
A report (pdf) by Washington-based Refugees International said an influx of Iraqis threatened to overwhelm other Middle Eastern countries, particularly Syria, Jordon and Lebanon.

Last month, the UN estimated that 100,000 people were fleeing the country each month, with the number of Iraqis now living in other Arab countries standing at 1.8 million.

Today's report came as George Bush and Tony Blair were due to discuss the situation in Iraq, which the bipartisan Iraq Study Group yesterday described as "grave and deteriorating".

Refugees International said the acceleration in the numbers fleeing Iraq meant it could soon overtake the refugee crisis in Darfur.

"We're not saying it's the largest [refugee crisis], but it's quickly becoming the largest," spokeswoman Kristele Younes said. "The numbers are very, very scary."

They claimed that 500,000 lives would be taken and they were wrong.

The October 2006 Lancet (October 29, 2004) study estimated total excess deaths up to July 2006. Total deaths (civilian and non-civilian) include all additional deaths due to increased lawlessness, degraded infrastructure, poorer healthcare, etc.. The survey estimated 654,965 excess deaths related to the war. The 2006 study involved surveys between May 20 and July 10, 2006. More households were surveyed than during the 2004 study, allowing for a 95% confidence interval of 392,979 to 942,636 excess Iraqi deaths. The result was disputed by President Bush based both on the number of deaths and the methodology.

Although the British Government initially tried to dispute the accuracy of the Lancet survey, the UK Ministry of Defence's chief scientific adviser later said the survey's methods were "close to best practice" and the study design was "robust". The Lancet survey figure is the only statistically accurate casualty figure which is intended to show the total excess deaths (rather than lower limits, provided by surveys of only those deaths reported to authorities or media agencies).

The methodology in that study is what the US Government uses and teaches other countries to use for disaster calculations. Like tsunamis, earthquakes, war, etc.

They predicted we would go through whole batalians in one day, and they were wrong.

They claimed the Iraqi people wouldn’t draft a constitution, and they were wrong.

These claims were made by who and when? Not that the Iraqi constitution is working...

Liberals were wrong about everything about Iraq. They have no credibility on the issue.

Don't you mean the Bush Administration?

    - WMD

    - Connection to 9/11

    - Supporting and having connections with terrorists.

    - Being greeted as liberators.

    - The war would be over in no more than 6 months - we could bring our troops home.

Darn right we were wrong. We just weren't wrong enough.

Don't pay much in taxes???? What? Most republicans I know live off pensions/SS or their dividend check. And those making more than $90,000 per year do not pay their fair share in Social Security tax as it is capped at $90,000. If all had to pay their fair share in taxes, we would not be having future problems with SS and our deficit.

    Mr Cock,

I never served in the military, I married into a USAF family. Signing up for duty is a contract. It can vary with your grade, your obligations (eg getting $ for college which was common then. I dated one of those guys) and what you and the service agreed to.

My active reserve duty ended in 1970

Wait. Your active duty or your reserve duty? Are you comprehending the difference? Kerry's commitment- at an officer's rank - would have been 4 years. His tours of duty in Vietnam included one a large ship and the swiftboat.

The amount of time he spent on that river is often considered very short - until you find out the casualty rate among the swiftboat crews at the time was horrendous. Like over 50%. Other vets in the service at the time called the boats 'metal coffins'.

His requirement to serve out the 4 years was spelled out in the transfer papers - he could be called up again for active duty at any time. I believe he chose to extend his service in the NR after the required time was up. I'm not going to google that one.

I gather my response (#152) to your allegations the "liberals were wrong"(# 101) was too difficult to understand so you just ignored it.

Now you've added the baseless "fact" that Kerry's discharge had something to do with Carter's amnesty program.

So, you claim, while unable to back it up, that: a) your discharge as, apparently, an enlisted person took so much less time than his; b) that his being on active reserve while you being on (unspecified, was it active or inactive) reserve played no part in it; and c) Kerry's discharge had something to do with Carter's amnesty program. (Without which, by the way, you conservatives wouldn't have had Lee Greenwood's country hit "God Bless the USA", on account of he went to Canada to dodge the draft. I will credit him for a good singing voice.)

Yes, you do. No, I don't.

You made a claim. The burden is on you to substantiate it.

    Either that or STFU.

  268. RUCerious Says:

And here's his discharge, after he served his reserve time.
Now read paragraph 3. Any more questions?

  269. RUCerious Says:

My speculation is that michael never served in any branch of the armed forces, unless you consider his Xbox a battleground.

    Comment by michael — July 7, 2007 @ 2:20 am

See, michael, here's where your reading comprehension problem really hurts you.

You claimed earlier that you have the "facts" on your side. Now, when asked for one of those facts -- just one, you offer SPECULATION.

Do you understand the difference between "fact" and "speculation"?

    Apparently not.

  271. Gregor Samsa Says:

    Oh, and michael,

please explain why we should believe you can remember what happened 30 years ago, when you cannot recall whom you have been talking to on this very thread.

  272. mikey r Says:

Okay, folks, i think we've broken michael. He's got nothing or he would have produced it by now. It's pretty clear he never served in the military, and it's likely that he won't even serve when he reaches legal age in a few years.

So good night all, it's been fun.

  273. Gregor Samsa Says:

One more thing: Playing Battlefield 2 in your mom's basement doesn't count as military experience, michael.

  274. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

My speculation is, he was originally given a “less than Honorable Discharge” for his anti American behavior! Prove me wrong?

    Comment by michael — July 7, 2007 @ 2:20 am

Well, if we're going to allow speculation, then my speculation is, you were originally given a “less than Honorable Discharge” for your homosexual behavior! Prove me wrong?

As you see, that's not how debate works. You don't throw a completely untrue, unsupportable point out and then challenge the other side to prove you're wrong.

  275. Tundra Says:

    http://fl1.findlaw.com/news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/jkerry/accptdisnavresrv.pdf

OK Michael here is your proof.

Paragraph 3 requests he return his ID card on 13 Jul 78.

If he had been discharged he would not have still had it.

  276. michael Says:

How come none of you will even make an attempt at explaining why it took kerry 5 times longer to get his Honorable Discharge than me and my friends. We were all in the service at the same time!

  277. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Oh, "michael" (aka Ann Coulter), you are truly a poor debater.

We have been giving you lots of reasons to explain why Kerry's discharge took longer than yours. (Here's another: Maybe the Navy wanted to keep him more than they wanted to keep you.) You refuse to provide ANY proof whatsoever that what you "speculate" might possibly be true. Then you go back to your original, inane, poorly-backed meaningless question.

You are so much like Ann Coulter that it is difficult for me to believe that you are not really her.

  278. Gregor Samsa Says:

I speculate michael was abused as a child, drinks heavily, and abuses his wife and children to ease the frustration of being kicked around in every thread on ThinkProgress..

    Prove me wrong!

Or as our brain dead troll would put it: "Prove me wrong?"

Other former members of this administration have shown that they can't be trusted to show competence at anything like Wolfowitz who tried to get his girlfriend a raise which was against the rules of the World Bank. He was forced out of his job for this. We must hold Bush accountable for why the Iraq war has cost us so much.

Before I go off to bed with my wife, let me point out to you why your side always has such unreliable sources. We liberals tend to have love in our hearts, and we choose to believe sources that love the same things we do (such as truth, arts, music, science, etc.). Your side, on the other hand, have hearts filled with hate and so you choose to believe sources that hate the same things you hate (liberals, John Kerry, Jimmy Carter, FDR, and, of course, the Clintons, including Chelsea, etc.)

That is why you can never convince us by referencing a source whose story is influenced by a hatred of something. John O'Neill has hated John Kerry for decades. When Kerry testified before Congress as a younf man, Nixon sent O'Neill out to discredit him.

Good night everyone. I'm glad it's not my night to clean up the crap these jerks have been flinging at us.

    American "journalism" is RARE.

A couple of years ago, a group of Canadians told me that they considered the "news" in the USA to be PROPAGANDA.

And THAT is the difference between Nixon going down and Bush getting away with his TREASON--

The Press did its job and asked HARD questions.

Not anymore. They make half a million a year, and if they tell the TRUTH about Bush and his WAR CRIMINALS, they get SMEARED,

    LOSE THEIR JOB, etc.

So the press is now in bed with the CRIMINALS, rather than REPORTING to the USA the CRIMES of the Bush CRIMINALS.

A Genuine Question Regarding Joseph Wilson:

Has any right-winger, in all this time, come up with a legitimate reason for there being a need to discredit Joseph Wilson by outing his wife through Scooter Libby? Because if, as conservatives claim, Wilson was demonstrably wrong in his Niger report, it seems you’d just show he’s wrong and leave his wife out of the whole damn thing. Unless…well, you know.

  331. Phines Gage Says:

Biden is just trying to inject some life into his moribund, brain-dead campaign by stirring up controversy. The ‘Republicans are stupid’ canard is about as old and worn out as it comes. And this from a man who has much to be modest about, as the saying goes.

It won’t work, of course. The country marked him as a prevaricating blowhard years ago. I can only assume he continues his campaign to gain attention for his misshapen ego.

This is just like Kerry’s ‘accidentally’ recorded campaign comments of ‘I can’t believe I’m losing to this guy’.

It’s red meat for the MSM and gets them all sweaty and excited, but in the end it reflects poorly on the candidate who comes off as small and petty.

He is also possessed of certain characteristics–stubborness, inflexibility, inabiity to communicate effectively–and beliefs–amnesty, changing the world–that have cost him much political support of late.

Political disagreement is one thing, but that doesn’t imply your opponent is intellectually deficient.

  344. Frank O Says:

Let’s see now, the population of Delaware is 860,000 less than a million. Joe Biden, who represents the State of Delaware in the US Senate, is running for President.

No one thinks Biden has any chance of being elected. He has run before, losing badly, and on one occasion having to withdraw because he repeated an entire speech by Niel Kinnock, passing it off as his own.

Now for 2008, he shamelessly campaigns once again, going around the country spending money and giving speeches, pretending he is important.

As long as he bashes Republicans he will get publicity and has little to fear from those he attacks, all of whom are infinitely more popular and important than he is.

The Iowans who stand there spending time listening to this pathetic candidate are the ones who must be brain dead.

  345. Mullet Over Says:

I enjoy Biden’s hijinks. The more he is quoted, the better for my causes and candidates.

  346. Cafe Noir Says:

But since Bush managed to get himself made Preident, and Biden will never go beyond Senior Senator Chia Pet, what does that say about Biden’s brain?

  351. Nipsy Says:

Biden is another Senator for life from a small state who has no where to go but down. He is keeping his seat warm for his son, the Delaware State Attorney General.

  352. Wes Says:

That may not ultimately happen, Nipsy. The fastest growing parts of Delaware are the Republican counties to the south. If they continue to outstrip Sussex in population growth, then the state will flip back to its GOP roots–barring a flood Bush’s illegals, that is.

  353. Thomas Jackson Says:

I wonder what Biden’s IQ is? I mean someone who is so bright has to steal the campaign speech of a failed British politician is really in a position to call someone brain dead. To see brain dead just watch him during a democratic debate.

But this insults the intelligence of the genuine brain dead.

    Comment by Troll — July 7, 2007 @ 8:19 am

Absolutely.. It should read "Live insured or die".

  366. War4Sale Says:

"There is a lot of money to pay for this. It doesn't have to be U.S. taxpayer money. We are talking about a country that can finance its own reconstruction and relatively soon."

  367. dbadass Says:

    “Live free or die”

I've lived in NH for a long time and this has never been much more than a silly explaination for wanting to live in the past. Shit, it couldn't even cut it a a liscence plate motto. I suppose you would agree though that living free would include freedom to marry anyone you choose regardless of gender, freedom to utilize recreational drugs in the privacy of your own home, freedom to make one's own decisions as to reproduction, and all sorts of others. Right?

  368. Troll Says:

    dbadass
    Yes.

  369. Troll Says:

Though Marriage is a religious institution government should recognize only civil unions.

Abortion is a states rights issue and the feds should only regulate the abortion industry which has little oversight presently.

  370. dbadass Says:

    369
    Then your consistency deserves respect

  371. War4Sale Says:

Remember kids...when we spend $1.4 trillion on Iraq, it's called "liberty," but when we spend it on America, it's called "socialism!"

  372. Troll Says:

When the power the fed has been taken back and returned to the states corruption will not end but the citizens ability to deal with it will be restored.

  373. funky p Says:

Good morning troll patrol (and progressives)
Yes; live free or die. great motto for you trolls, for only you recognize your obligation to serve those ends by joining our illustrious military. There you can put action behind your empty rhetoric of Clinton did it or the Jews did it or Bush is the greatest.
Thank you again trolls for enlisting, and joining the fight you support so vocally.
    Or are you cowards?

  374. Troll Says:

I'm too old to enlist and was a late boomer anti-war hippie when I was younger. I was too young too have fought in Vietnam though I did register with the selective service as a conscientious objector at the time. I am not an absolute pacifist though as a kid I used to be and still have strong pacifist leanings.

My thinking has evolved particularly because of the muslum religion and its positions regarding liberal society. I now believe that we have a right to self defense and I also believe that at times we have a moral duty to come to the defense of our fellow human beings. That war and violence is at times necessary for the survival of liberal democracy and that not all religions are equal some are bent on our destruction we need to be vigilant and posibly proactive in the defense of liberty.

  375. margaret Says:

I can't believe how few of the preceding comments were about the thread topic and about how effectively cheney, bush and all of their thieving friends have fleeced this country.

So, the cost of the Iraq invasion/occupation seems to be rising? How nice for halliburton and blackwater! How stupid are we?

  376. Troll Says:

    Marg

How much have we spent in Kosovo? You have no clue do you? Have any idea why? Because it was a liberals war so TP and the media do not remind you every day.

How many civilians died in our war in Kosov? It doesnt matter to you cause your darling Clinton started that one.

I have no allegiance to either party so I can face the facts which you hide from. Both are screwing the good people of the US.

  377. Katie Says:

"$12 billion per month, well above the $8.7 billion in FY2006.”

A large portion of that money is going to the contractors in Iraq who make roughly 5 times what a US soldier makes. And I read recently that there are now more contractors in Iraq than there are soldiers.

My advice to the Democrats is to cut off all money to contractors in Iraq. That will bring our soldiers home in a hurry and the Republics can't accuse the Democrats of "not supporting the troops".

I agree, Katie. I've been advocating exactly that. Cut off funding for the contractors.

  379. upside00 Says:

#364 Notice how most of the troll comments are about Kerry and Clinton and Not about George W. Bush. Why is that??

    Comment by Badger

Two reasons: The first, is that is all they have to talk about, and second, they like living in the past, as their present and future are so bleak. They even are resorting to trying to channel ronnee raygunz through fred flintstone thompson!

How sad their poor little lives must be!!

Holy Crap!!! What are you thinking???? What would Darth and the BushCo families live on, if their dividend/bribery checks from Halliburton, BlackWater and Big Oil were cut off??

How would they survive? That would be SOOOO cruel!

    HA-HA! And deservedly so.

  382. Funky p Says:

We could avoid the total cost of the war by abandoning our imperialist ways and spending our $1.4 trillion on renewable energy research.
With all due respect to Troll (you do not sound like a troll, you state your position and do not call people names) if we could meet our energy needs without sucking out all our oil that god mistakenly placed in the Mideast, they could eat sand and we have no reason to invade. The Muslims are not our real problem, they have a right to defend themselves from invaders. When we call three countries the axis of evil, then invade one of those, the other two decide to develop nuclear weapons. It is self defense, from their point of view. If you threaten Christians, and then kill a million of them, would not other Christians be arming themselves and preparing for war?
Energy independence is our road to freedom, not killing and occupying oil producing nations.
And troll; all mslims, including our "friends" in Saudi Arabia? You know, the ones Bush holds hands with.

  383. Ronald Reagan and Master Satan Says:

    Badger,

The reason is that they can't defend what these TRAITORS have done, so they try to distract and muddy the waters until people who want INTELLIGENT discussion end up leaving.

I ended up in a posting match with either 10 trolls from the Free Republic, or mr. "president" with 10 browsers going.

The thing is that I simply kept telling them that Reagan, Bush 41 AND 43 are traitors, and that junior is a TRAITOR coxucker PUNK.

It PISSED the trolls off SO MUCH, calling me "biased" and "vitriolic", etc., and I just tell them the SAME about junior.

So, KEEP TELLING THE HARSH TRUTH about Bush, Cheney, Burhs 41 and TRAITOR Reagan, the Iran/Contra king...

Amazingly enough, when I said "goodnight/enjoy your circle jerk", the postings stopped IMMEDIATELY.

And one troll responded "TP is now a CONSERVATIVE board". But of course, they contribute NOTHING, do it to piss US off.

Just keep posting that the abovementioned TRAITOR coxucker PUNKS are just THAT (use your own words, of course), and respond to NONE of their bullzhit.

They may not go away, but you will have them UNDER CONTROL, because they aren't diverting SERIOUS, INTELLIGENT discourse.

God Bless America, the Democratic Party, SUBPOENAS, and Bush and Cheney being indicted, convicted, and JAILED until they DIE!!

  384. barfly Says:

How much have we spent in Kosovo? You have no clue do you? Have any idea why? Because it was a liberals war so TP and the media do not remind you every day.

"The British "Financial Times" quoted a finance analyst as saying that the 78-day air-raid actions cost an estimated sum of over US$7 billion, averaging US$0.1 billion a day. The newspaper added that the United States, Britain and France bore the greater part of military expenditures. Of course, the United States contributed the bulk, over three-quarters of the total."

  385. trex Says:

How much have we spent in Kosovo? You have no clue do you? Have any idea why? Because it was a liberals war so TP and the media do not remind you every day.

Peacekeeping costs are estimated at 2-3 billion per year. That's what - a week in Iraq? And unlike Iraq, that money is well spent because it's working. Iraq, on the other hand, is an abject failure .

How many civilians died in our war in Kosov? It doesnt matter to you cause your darling Clinton started that one.

500, you witless moron. Even the exaggerated figure by the Yugoslav government is only five thousand. That's about four slow months in Iraq. And the Kosovo action saved lives.

The total war related deaths in Iraq is somewhere around 700,000 now, not counting a million more wounded. There is no comparison. None.

I have no allegiance to either party so I can face the facts which you hide from. Both are screwing the good people of the US.

Bullshit. You're just a conservatard who's running from your own failures and the failures of your party

  386. Innocent Bystander Says:

Remember when Harold Nachios, in the run-up to the war said it would cost on $2-3 BB, tops?

How much energy independence and domestic jobs would $1.4 trillion have bought us, investing in renewable/alternative energy, conservation strategies, and infrastructure retooling?

Remember, this is all about the $100TT of estimated oil that this administration wants to deliver to their primary benefactors - Big Oil. They are cramming the Hydrocarbon law done the throats of the Iraqi people, a legal stealing of their resources....and Kurds, Shia, and Sunni's all know it. Another Bush-republican pipedream....

  387. emald Says:

This is some big ticket thievery. Talk about laughing all the way to the bank. What/who ever is behind the dumb shit in the oval office has all the corners figured and just sank a triple bank shot, so to say. (Unlike some writers of note I can call out a metaphor when I need to.) Killing has always been a large profit business, life being so cheap and all.

If we don't see this cabal reversed, justice of the most severe kind against this evil, than our country has meant nothing and has become nothing but a blemish on history. Greed appears to lead to this end, sort of just like the Jesus "they" think they know when he said that the love of money is the root of all evil. We are seeing this in spades.
