“Global warming is radically changing the face of Mount Everest, the sons of the men who first reached its summit 54 years ago said.” The sons of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay say “their fathers would no longer recognise the world’s highest mountain,” noting the base camp is now 132 feet lower than it was 53 years ago.
Triple-digit temperatures are expected to set records in parts of the West. Forecasters predicted a high of 107 in Boise, ID, and 125 in Baker, CA. Residents in some states were warned “that outdoor activities could be dangerous except during the cooler early morning hours.”
Eighteen people died in Baghdad “after a car bomb blew up outside a photo shop here as members of a wedding party waited Thursday night for the newlyweds to get their pictures taken.”
“The bald eagle may be soaring back from near-extinction, but hundreds of other imperiled species are foundering, as the federal agency charged with protecting them has sunk into legal, bureaucratic and political turmoil.”
Nearly half of the National Hurricane Center’s employees urged the Bush administration to replace their boss. “The staff of the National Hurricane Center would like nothing more than to return its focus to its primary mission of protecting life and property from hazardous tropical weather,” they wrote, “and leave the political arena it now finds itself in.”
After a concerted lobbying effort by property developers, mine owners and farm groups, the Bush administration scaled back proposed guidelines for enforcing a key Supreme Court ruling governing protected wetlands and streams. “There are definitely waters that will not be protected because of this latest guidance,” said Navis Bermudez, a water policy analyst at the Sierra Club.
“An exodus of highly trained mid- and upper-level firefighters” from the U.S. Forest Service has left “swaths” of flammable national forests protected by little more than luck. “On any given day, about 40 of 271 U.S. Forest Service engines remain in firehouses rather than on patrol, idled by a shortage of supervisors.”
The New York Times writes, “There is no better measure of the power of the health care issue than this: Sixteen months before Election Day, presidential candidates in both parties are promising to overhaul the system and cover more — if not all — of the 44.8 million people without insurance.”
“Impeachment center” opens in Los Angeles. “A storefront ‘impeachment headquarters‘ emblazoned with American flags opened July 4 with a mission to remove President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. … The center is sponsored by Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles, Westside Greens, Santa Monica Democratic Club and the Los Angeles Greens.”
And finally: Today is President Bush’s birthday. The Houston Chronicle’s Julie Mason writes that Bush’s 61 years old physique is showing the demands of the office. “For Bush, his cumulative burden, with perhaps the Iraq war being most prominent — takes a heavy toll that is showing on his face and also in his demeanor, which is less jokey and more testy than previously. Some days, Bush looks exhausted.”

So, when asked about a potential candidacy, I believe he's now made it clear (much to the chagrin of a majority of americans) that he has no plans to run. Why should someone this personally and spiritually evolved come in and attempt to clean up the fecal material which this administration has plastered this country with?? Why WOULD anyone believe that it's an achievable proposition? Gore probably realizes that our democratic "tipping balance" has been reached and that equalibrium cannot be reinstated. According to the Post, after Cheney objected to the amount of water withheld to preserve fish, it was diverted to irrigation and an estimated 70,000 salmon died, including a small percentage of coho, a species listed as threatened in the region.
"Vice President Cheney turned the science upside down for political reasons," said Rep. George Miller (D-Martinez). "They had to close the fishing season. Taxpayers shelled out $60 million for businesses and boats."

The Internet blogs were filled with personal smears of Al Gore's son, yesterday, as a way to attack Mr. Gore in mean attempt to prevent him running for president.
GOPer goon attacks on Gore's family is dirty politics, so are indicative of vile Karl Rove's style of smearing opponents, plus it reveals GOPers as nasty hypocrites.
President George Bush's two daughters are no saints, since they have been exposed as party girls who like to get drunk, and have been seen using drugs at parties.
Former Governor Jeb Bush's children have been seen in the news: One of his sons was caught by police in a car naked screwing a girl and his daughter doing drugs.
Therefore it is stupid for GOPers to even mention Al Gore's son doing something dumb, because Bush kids have done far worse stuff, so this could boomerang too.
Pres. Bush and his brother Jeb would be wise to stop the attacks on Gore's son, or face wide-open counterattacks on their kids, so end this cycle of dirty politics.

Gore claims the snowcap atop Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking and that global warming is to blame. Yet according to the November 23, 2003, issue of Nature magazine, "Although it's tempting to blame the ice loss on global warming, researchers think that deforestation of the mountain's foothills is the more likely culprit. Without the forests' humidity, previously moisture-laden winds blew dry. No longer replenished with water, the ice is evaporating in the strong equatorial sunshine."

I am happy to see you give the to American Meteorological Society enough credibility to quote them in a debate about Global Climate Change.

Protestants are 52% of the population and Catholics are 24% that adds up to a majority hello. They are right and you again are wrong.

As usual, and as is typical, Mr.Drudge lies!
On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, "Did you know there's a White House dog?" Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.
And of course he plays the "only the left attacks" while he himself attacks Chelsea by calling her "butt ugly" (like he's ever seen any female's posterior anatomy)
