Sen. Stevens worried about his ‘employment potential.’

The FBI is currently questioning Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) as part of “a public corruption investigation that has led to charges against state lawmakers and contractors.” The AP reports today that Stevens, who is 83 years old, is worried that it may hamper his re-election efforts:

The worst thing about this investigation is that it does change your life in terms of employment potential. It doesn’t matter what anyone says, it does shake you up. If this is still hanging around a year from November, it could cause me some trouble.

I think my local supermarket is hiring elderly baggers, Mr. Stevens… can you be trusted with people’s groceries with those sticky fingers of yours?

Aw go on, retire ya old coot.
    Live on your ill-gotten gains.
You probably won’t live long anyway….

    What? He needs the money?
Got kids that need to be put through college? Oh! Or is this ‘re’election’ thing a sense of civic duty (doodie)?

  7. david says:

At 83, I willing to bet even money Stevens isn’t alive by next November.

The truly sad thing is that, given Alaska’s track record, even if this neanderthal doesn’t run, Alaska will elect a clone to replace him. Look at Lisa Murkowski and the despicable Don Young if you dont believe that comment.

  14. DM says:

No one would hire you anyway, you’re too freaking old.

What? Employment discrimination? Oh sorry, your party did away with that along with the rest of our rights.

  15. Ben B says:

You know what else hurts your employment potential as a public servant? Abusing the trust the public has placed in you.

It isn’t all this nonsense about the investigation. That just reveals it.

  16. Wayne says:

He can always get a job as a Wallmart door greeter, LOL

  17. Powkat says:

Dude – you’re 82 and surely you’ve stolen enough money to retire on.

Being in prison, Senator Stevens, will definitely hamper your “employment potential” don’t you think?

teddy bear isn’t all there, and he isn’t alone. He is just like every other member of congress, and this statement is proof his ego just isn’t going to let reality get in the way. what is important to him?

being elected, campaign contributions, being elected, and more than anything, earmarks and the bribes, and did I mention being elected?

when we form the new government, can accountability be a major criminal aspect of our new laws? right now it is a joke with such synonyms as “decorum” “they all do it” “I did nothing wrong” “I am not sorry for anything”

elected officials need to understand that the actions that those they are replacing are now about 80% capital offenses, and that there is no appeal.

I wonder if any of our tax money goes to programs that real people care about? I would like to vote that the government begins free health care with my money. I will even pay it as tax. Does anyone have a problem with this?

time to end crimes against us

I’m sure the Anchorage Wal-Mart would be happy to give a friend like Ted Stevens a job as a greeter!

Of course, he wouldn’t get health care, a living wage, or the right to collective bargaining, but as a conservative he doesn’t believe in those things anyway, so when do you want to start, Ted?

Ted Stevens as a Greeter at Wal Mart.. “Can you tell where…”

    “NO!”

Perhaps Obama should be worried about his employment potential after this gaffe.

Obama tells teachers public schools should consider merit pay

    http://www.centredaily.com/news/state/story/144499.html

He might be OK in Illinois thanks to his ethanol tariff, but the rest of the nation? There goes the union checks!

  31. Marie says:

When he’s out of a job next year, he can go to work for the internets and work with all those tubes that clog up the emails.

At age 83, this millionaire is still looking to increase his millions on the public dollar. Let him find real work if that’s how he wants to spend his last days.

LOL! He could work at Wal-mart as a double agent for Sam’s Club!

  33. War4Sale says:

Actually, Williams was worried about his employment potential before he was investigated, so he took the kickbacks pre-emptively as a purely “defensive” measure!

  34. david says:

Strange, m12, I read the Obama piece and, although it talks about merit pay, what Obama describes is not pay based on test scores but pay based on teaching certain subjects or taking on extra duties.

Again, this is where Obama outclasses the partisan rivalry; he takes a idea from the other side and reworks it. He builds bridges. And I’m pretty sure you’ve never belonged to a union, m12, because unions have often gone for the kind of “merit” pay Obama described.

  35. Retrogrouch says:

He’s worried about the investigation ?!!?? Aren’t there other more problematic ‘I’ words for a man in his condition like incompetence, irritability, incontinence?…oh, wait, he’s a Republican; these are preferred traits. Stevens for President ‘08!

  36. Publicus says:

He’s 83! Geez. He should kiss the earth every day that he’s still alive! Who care about being in politics?

  38. Probus says:

If Stevens broke the law, then he has plenty to worry about. He has been in the Senate too long. He can no longer serve if he doesn’t even know what the Internet actually is. It is certainly not a “series of tubes”.

Don’t some of the prisons offer job training? I once saw something on CNN about prisoners being trained to be cat and dog groomers. Those who succeeded with the work usually stayed out of trouble thereafter, and it also their grooming improved the animals’ chances of getting adopted.
Of course, Stevens could also learn to clean toilets, etc.

  43. ABC says:

He could get a job fixing the tubes in the Internet!
