Taylor to still testify on Wednesday?

Earlier today, President Bush invoked executive privilege to block former aides Sara Taylor and Harriet Miers from testifying to Congress. But, according to Senate Judiciary Committee spokesperson Tracy Schmaler, Taylor will still appear before the committee as scheduled on Wednesday.

Good. She has said that she wants to testify. I see no reason why she should be prevented from doing so.

  2. gummitch says:

She has a smart lawyer. Taylor’s willingness to testify is not only likely to be, in the long term, the only choice, she is going to get a far more sympathetic hearing if she shows up now then after a long-drawn out court case.

So, does Bush send US Marshalls to keep her from testifying?

  3. shane says:

Like every other Bushco loyalist she won’t remember anything when she does testify.

looks like guilt has gotten the best of her…. she knows what’s up…. get yer popcorn ready!

So, she’s disobeying a direct command by the commander-in-chief? She should be arrested for that.

  6. BlueArkansas says:

Whistleblower? Dare we hope? Will she live to see sunrise on Wednesday?

  7. BlueArkansas says:

Hmmm….too macabre and cavalier about Taylor’s life on my last post. My sincere apologies to my fellow posters.

She’s in the military? No sh!t?

Hey, dumbo. The President is Commander in Chief of the military, not civilians.

Didn’t you trolls ever go to school at all?

Maybe Gonzo can give her his crib sheet:

    “I don’t recall………..I don’t recall……….I don’t recall, EXACTLY….etc.”

I am sure it will come in handy.

And if she gets off script, cheney will have his favorite shotgun loaded with Double-ought and a good buzz going, just in case.

I doubt she’ll say much, if anything. Not that Bush has any standing to block her testimony, but they love to hide behind legalese or the illusion of legality or what we could now call legaliness…

I’m with you. She better watch her back.

Congress should take a lesson from the Bush Administration: Power is not given, it is taken. Passivity will never strengthren your hand, nor will adherence to civility. The only thing Bushco will understand is force, and, as they’re dyed-in-the-wool cowards, the slightest show of force will make them cower in submission.

Make them submit. Failure to do this will make Congress irrelevant.

Unless of course she is accidently shot in the face in a drunken hunting mishap at the White House (yes. they hunt on the lawn. They let lose some unemployed steel workers and hunt ‘em down as they forage for food stamps)

This is getting more interesting by the minute!

Thank you, Sara Taylor. By conducting a brilliant CYA move, you are forcing this issue to continue to be front and center for the American people.

I bet that vein on the King’s forehead is sticking out…. :)

Let me give you a preview:

    “I cannot recall”

    “I cannot remember”

    “I cannot recollect”

“I wont speak on behalf of that”

Multiply the above by 50. There ya go. Hope ya’ll’er happy.

dumby has no authority to arrest taylor for testifying…
taylor is NOT disobying any direct command from anyone -
unless she doesn’t show up on wednesday…

    then it’s CONTEMPT of congress…

  19. Katie says:

Wow – good on her! Perhaps there is actually a stand-up patriotic Republic out there. I hope that she goes into hiding until it is time for her to testify though. I fear for her life!

    Let me add one more:

“By Executive Order of the President of the United States, I am not allowed to testify. However, having been subpoenaed to this Judiciary Committee hearing, I appear in good faith.”

    Heh.

I hope they give her protection all the way to wherever she is testifying..

  22. War4Sale says:

I love the fact that they are going right ahead with her testimony, while Bush throws his little tantrum in the corner.

“The Decider” can invoke all the privliges he wants to and our representatives in congress can ignore them.

    Who is “irrelevent” now, biatch?

  23. Mistress Z says:

You guys, I truly hope Ms Taylor is showing to testify at her hearing, regardless of the EO. It would show true character on her part.

However, I have a nasty feeling about this. Ms Taylor’s attorney says she will “appear” as scheduled — he does not say she will “testify.”

  31. elliot says:

Seeing that she’s a FORMER employee of the White House, I fail to see what Bush can do to stop her or protect her from a contempt of congress charge. Bush can claim executive privilege all he wants but if the people who are speaking to congress are not part of his administration, he can not stop them unless he files an injunction in court to cut them off at the pass. It’s possibly her lawyer is advising her to testify because if she doesn’t, she will be in jail for contempt of congress, not Bush, Cheney or Rove as she is not part of the executive branch any longer. Bush could pardon her but she would be back in jail for Contempt of Congress the next them she blows them off on top of the fact that the Contempt charge could be extended to the administration.

Of course she could fall down a manhole on the way to the capitol…

So you are saying she cannot testify without committing perjury? That is what “bearing false witness” is in court. What if she just testifies, and tells the truth? There would be no violation of the 9th commandment there.

You have to have hope that when you get away from that toxic environment the brain damage wears off and some amount of level headed mental activity returns.
On the other hand: she can take up valuable media space with brain dead goo and join the others who have little or no working mental capacity that are paraded out of this ………dark house.
Which one do you think will show up??

  39. RSOlive says:

Mary59 at the Mediamatters site has a wonderful timeline posted in reference to their piece about Snow’s reference to “chutzpah” and the media’s failure to distinguish between Clinton’s subjects who were pardoned and Libby. Mary takes it a brilliant step further, and notes the Republicans’ typical investigative barrage into virtually every one of Clinton’s pardon’s, the finding by all of them that there was no basis for wrongdoing in any of them, and, most importantly of all, the absolute transparency of the Clinton White House in sending his advisers to testify on the subject of the pardons.

    Magnificent! Go there at http://mediamatters.org/items/200707090003?made_comment=1
