Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales

faced a new firestorm on Tuesday sparked by a report he may have misled lawmakers in 2005 about civil liberty violations by the FBI.” Rep. Jerrold Nadler “called for the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the prima facie case that Gonzales provided false statements to Congress, noting that misleading Congress is a serious crime.”

“Attorney General Gonzales has shown an apparent reckless disregard for the rule of law and a fundamental lack of respect for the oversight responsibilities of Congress,” said Rep. Nadler. “The man entrusted with enforcing our nation’s laws must also abide by them — and Mr. Gonzales has apparently failed in that duty. Providing false, misleading or inaccurate statements to Congress is a serious crime, and the man who may have committed those acts cannot be trusted to investigate himself. A Special Prosecutor is necessary to investigate this and the countless other violations of the law apparently committed by this Executive Branch.”

What a piece of work that Gonzo is: a subservient bootlicker of the lowest variety. A soulless bag of dog snot.

Special Prosecutor — is it a requirement that this person be appointed by the DoJ?

Seems a conflict of interest. Gonzo could appoint Monica Goodling, for heaven’s sake.

Is anyone really surprised that Gonzo lied “again” to the Congress and to the American Public? HIs only loyalty is to George the Second. He should be brought before the Senate again and put under oath and grilled. Then, the House should begin impeachment proceedings. No delays and no time given, just do it!

  8. Dreary Urbanite says:

#3 – On behalf of all defenseless soulless bags of dog snot I object! Gonzo could strive for the remainder of his natural life and not attain half the integrity required to be a soulless bag of dog snot.

Senior U.S. intelligence officials tell ABC News new intelligence suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the United States, or may already be here.

Well, that kind of kills the whole “If we leave, they’ll follow us back.” Talking point. Because they are gonna come here if we leave of not.

So, trolls, what is the next excuse for why we don’t leave? And don’t use “Utter chaos” as an excuse, because the insurgents are already using SH!T BOMBS against our troops. Our troops are being infected with FECES getting in their already horrendous wounds. It doesn’t get anymore chaotic than SH!T BOMBS.

  18. Angry One says:

This would be Gonzales’ fourth episode of lying to Congress under oath. His previous lies:
    1. Promised not to use interim US attorney hiring authority and get confirmation for all US attorneys
    2. Said there was no serious disagreement about NSA domestic surveillance program
    3. Said he would never make a change in a US attorney position for “political reasons”

Hopefully, Nadler will do something besides writing a “pretty please” letter.

I have 4 major “beefs” with Mr. Gonzales –

    * advised the Guv of Texas on 150+ executions in Texas during the shrubya’s governorship

    * wrote the “torture memos” that led to the Abu Graibh and Guantanamo scandals

    * the illegal, warrantless spying and wiretapping of U.S. citizens

    * the politicizing of U.S. Attorneys, an illegal posture, under HIS watch at the U.S. Department of Justice.

I think that, at least one of those “beefs”, requires impeachment or at the very least ignominious firing and ouster.

Isn’t that scary? His logic for keeping our troops there dispite what the majority of Americans want and the damage it is doing to our reputation world wide, is that we have to stay there to keep the people who aren’t there from going there.

Trolls are garden-variety losers. They feel bad about themsleves, so they try to make other people feel even worse than they do. Ironically, they invariably make asses of themselves by revealing their intellectual and moral shortcomings, so the strategy just makes them bigger losers.

People like that are common as dirt. You could meet one in any neighborhood bar or coffee shop.

It’s strange behavior, to be sure, but there’s nothing mysterious about it.

  195. Probus says:

Gonzalez runs the Justice department yet he lies under oath. From the beginning we were assured that civil liberties would not be abused under the Patriot Act yet that is exactly what happened. Lying in front of Congress is a very serious charge. Congress should bring him back and question him on his apparent falsehood. He clearly committed perjury. A special prosecutor should be appointed to investigate these serious charges.

  196. Cappy says:

Lying to Congress is a serious crime? Not to the Bush crowd. It’s how you make your bones! In fact, you can’t be considered a “loyal Bushie” until you’ve lied to Congress two or three times.

  197. Probus says:

If Gonzales lied to Congress under oath as it looks like he did then he committed perjury. Congress must now call for the appointment for a special prosecutor to investigate this and indict the AG. This is a very serious crime. The AG is supposed to uphold the law. If he can’t follow it himself he has no business being an AG.
