That's fine - Express your opinion, try to get it represented through elected officials or lobbying. But to even suggest that "science" has some exclusive prerogative that trumps ethical, theological, or any other form of reasoning is really a dangerous argument. Science is objective and universal only because it consciously avoids the complexity of moral and other considerations; that doesn't mean that those other considerations are unimportant. Don't make the mistake of using "science" as an excuse to exclude consideration of other Americans' deeply held values. Such an approach actually stifles free speech and imposes a minority doctrine on the country - just what we're afraid of happening. "Politics" embodies the entire range of values that matter to Americans and our representatives. That's exactly as it should be, and the President is acting just as "politically" as he should as a political leader (even if his policies are incorrect or misguided). American liberals need to have the courage of directly engaging in the difficult debates over values, ethics, even theology - not hide behind shallow interpretations of "science", "secularism", "separation of church and state", "personal rights", etc. Let's all tackle these issues with wisdom and deep consideration.
