A six-member congressional delegation recently returned from a seven-day trip that included stops in Ireland, Germany, Pakistan, Kuwait and Iraq. While in Iraq, security conditions prevented them “from meeting any Iraqis, leaving the Green Zone or staying in Iraq overnight.” Additionally, the “congressional members were required to wear full body armor, including Kevlar helmets, during the entire trip.”
And let’s also not forget–let’s not
July 10th, 2007 at 1:03 pmforget, Dude–that keeping wildlife,
an amphibious rodent, for uh,
domestic, you know, within the city–
that isn’t legal either.
Still waiting for Rape-Public-Cans and water carriers to have an epiphany and realization you cannot push a rope.
No matter how successful our military is, it cannot make the Iraqi puppet government work. It is akin to doing brain surgery on a corpse.
So impotent
July 10th, 2007 at 1:05 pmSo incompetent
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is apparently as dumb as a stick. Good work by the writer of the article, however, to point out that Al Qaeda in Iraq is only one of a number of Sunni insurgent organizations, in spite of her Republican spin trying to identify the entire insurgency as “Al Qaeda”.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:06 pmJust like a walk through a summer market in Indiana, right?
July 10th, 2007 at 1:08 pmWussies. All they need to do is pick up a gun. God will protect our lawmakers from the evil muslims.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:08 pmA new way forward, not stay the course
July 10th, 2007 at 1:11 pmA new course forward, not stay the way
A new stay foward, not course the way
A way to stay foward, thats the course
A way to stay of course
No rugs for the Mrs. this time. Somehow soom idiot will say that this is a sign of improvement in Iraq since it means that the insurgent/terrorist/al Queda/islamofacists are desperate or something ignorant like that.

You’re probably right. They probably don’t need the gun either.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:12 pmDo I remember correctly, that Mr McCain planned to visit Iraq on some Monday passed? It was either here or at C&L where I read the story. Was he among the lawmakers mentioned?
Iraq is a lost country. Daily life for Iraqi civilians must be hell. The extended tours of your men and women in uniform must equal this hell. I sincerely wish I will see a day, when a judge in The Hague will hand down severe prison sentences to Mr Bush, Mr Rumsfeld, Mr Powell, Ms Rice, Mr Cheney, et.al. And nobody there to commute their sentences or pardon them.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:14 pmThe “Green Zone” isn’t sounding too “green” lately…
What a damned joke.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:16 pmMore importantly, were they denied the opportunity to buy more $5 rugs?
July 10th, 2007 at 1:16 pmI’m sure those lawmakers were furious about not being able to leave the Green Zone.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:16 pm.
.
.
Not.
“Come to Iraq — for a great vacation!”

Join up little girl, pick up a gun. God will protect you. You’re as Christian as the lawmakers, aren’t you.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:16 pmBachmann is a NUT!!! While the people in the White House use the terror threat to keep people afraid and ram their policies up our arses, Bachmann actually believes it.
Check out http://www.dumpbachmann.com for more details on this psychopath. She’s a pimple on the @ss of Minnesota, an otherwise great state (with the exception of Norm Coleman).
July 10th, 2007 at 1:17 pmHell, just give these tough guys some guns and run ‘em out to Anbar to see all the progress. And leave ‘em there.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:17 pm#9
I wish it, as well, but I’m sure they’re all set for life. Probably sleep just fine at night, too.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:18 pm“Additionally, the ‘congressional members were required to wear full body armor, including Kevlar helmets, during the entire trip.’â€
sooo…it *is* just like a farmer’s market in Indiana…
July 10th, 2007 at 1:20 pmSheesh. Indianapolis is a rough place.
Bachmann is indeed a discredit to MN and a pure tool. That Minnesota is even considered a swing-state these days saddens me. Weren’t we one of the only if not the only state to carry Mondale and Dukakis?
July 10th, 2007 at 1:22 pmWow, sounds like the surge is really working!
July 10th, 2007 at 1:25 pmdoro sez:
Iraq is a failed state. This administration worked hard to ensure that the satate would fail, and would stay failed. A successful state would hinder their aims too much.
The sociopaths that have hijacked our country care nothing for anything except themselves. The pain and misery of a few million brown people halfway around the world is simply beneath their notice.
Again, beneath the notice of the Powers That Be. Not only do they not care about suffering foreigners, but they have equal disdain for suffering Americans. It seems that they are intentionally trying to break the Armed Forces in this country, which makes me very nervous when I reflect upon the fact that Blackwater, a mercenary organization that is better equipped than our own Armed Forces, and is loyal only to the people that sign their checks, are waiting in the wings.
I too hope to live to see that day. But unfortunately, since our Democratically controlled Congress is too spineless or collusive to even consider Articles of Impeachment, it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:25 pmAll GOP’ers feel free to walk any where in Iraq, I will protect you. Should you need to walk across a mine field, I will part those seas of mines for you. Put your faith in me, and you’ll be safe!
July 10th, 2007 at 1:25 pmU.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is apparently as dumb as a stick
Boy, you got that right! She doesn’t know her ass from a hole in the ground. As a Minnesotan, I am very disappointed that they didn’t let her out of the Green Zone. There is no way that she could have found her way back on her own and we would have been rid of her once and for all.
She was on a local talk radio program yesterday sharing all the “knowledge” (ahem) she had gained on her trip. What a friggin’ bimbo.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:27 pm“God will protect our lawmakers from the evil muslims.”
So why won’t he protect our soldiers from them? Does God hate the military?
July 10th, 2007 at 1:30 pmSO let me see if I understand this……… 7 months ago, the green zone was a safe haven with ice cream shops, swimming pools and a respite from the ugly occupation. Now, AFTER the surge, it is the same as the streets of Baghdad.
Howz that surge workin’ for you brilliant military minds at BushCo? Just wondering.
But then the Trolls here can’t be swayed by facts and all that other non-Repug stuff called teh truth.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:33 pm#24. VERY good point!! Must be then that ‘god” is a democrat if he hates the military, hates our troops, and by extension hates our freedom.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:34 pmDuh Iraq is a dangerous place, so face the reality members of Congress. Baghdad is NOT a place for tourists to buy cheap rugs.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:34 pmCALL CONGRESS….. TELL THEM TIME TO IMPEACH…. THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY HAS TO GO… TELL THEM THE PEOPLE ARE COMING….
July 10th, 2007 at 1:36 pmI am sure the GOPers on the trip were upset, because Lindsey Graham told them about the neat market in Baghdad to buy cheap rugs and Joe LIEberman told them about his purchase of sunglasses imported from China. Next time the US military should let them leave the Green Zone with zero protection and let them perish.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:40 pm#26. Actually, I think God belongs to the Green Party. And he doesn’t hate our troops…only the lying polititians who tricked them into joining the fight against “terrorism”.
I think it’s time to start the War on Lightning, which is quite a bit more dangerous than terrorism, from a global view.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:42 pmCALL CONGRESS…202-244-3121… TELL THEM TIME TO IMPEACH…. THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY HAS TO GO… TELL THEM THE PEOPLE ARE COMING….
July 10th, 2007 at 1:45 pmDO SOMETHING….CALL CONGRESS…202-244-3121… TELL THEM TIME TO IMPEACH…. THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY HAS TO GO… TELL THEM THE PEOPLE ARE COMING….
July 10th, 2007 at 1:45 pmAwwww, shucks, no more rug shopping with the platoon guys!

Don’t forget the war on uninsured people. Those selfish bastards are dropping like lies! 18,000 last years. 6 9-11s!
We should put all the uninsured people in Gitmo and beat them with insurance policies till they sell their meger possesions and sign up.

You are correct, sir!
Bachmann was the ditz who held W’s hand after the SOTU speech & wouldn’t let go. Word is, she would have been tackled by Secret Service in less than 5 seconds.
She would give a Chimp a blowjob in a second if it enhanced her ‘career’.
She’s the same idiot who told a mega-church in Mpls. that her & her husband prayed for 3 hours before deciding to run for Congress. Then the church’s Pastor told everyone to vote for her. (We have yet to see any IRS investigation.)
Her opponent, Patti Wetterling, lost her Son through abduction quite a few years ago and has gained national status as a protector of children’s safety & rights.
Bachmann used every dirty trick in the book during the campaign, including lies, innuendo and false statements about Patti’s life.
Bachmann is the stereotypical Neoturd…all hat & no horse.

Barrage of Mortars Strike Green Zone Tuesday
Estimates Range From 10 to 30 Hits, Leaving 3 Dead, 25 Wounded
Posted 2 hr. 41 min. ago
A number of mortar rounds struck the Green Zone on Tuesday, with estimates ranging from 10 to more than thirty. Eyewitnesses reported smoke rising near the US embassy compound. A US spokesman initially reported no fatalities, but police sources are now saying three were killed and 25 wounded.
The BBC has the lowest count at 10 mortars, Reuters cites a US spokesman who said there had been around a dozen explosions, AP reports the sound of at least 23 mortars was heard in central Baghdad, and VOI’s piece indicates there may have been two separate barrages spaced about a half-hour apart that totaled more than thirty.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:56 pm…but…but…but…McCain said it was safe!
July 10th, 2007 at 2:58 pmWhy didn’t God just protect the people in the WTC from the evil Muslims, then we wouldn’t even have to be in the Middle East at all.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:00 pmHer opponent, Patti Wetterling, lost her Son through abduction quite a few years ago and has gained national status as a protector of children’s safety & rights.
Bwaaaaa, and that makes her somehow eminently qualified to serve in Congress? The woman never held so much as a public dogcatcher job yet the libs of my great state of Minnesota were falling over themselves in voting for her.
Yellow dog liberals, through and through.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:11 pmShe would give a Chimp a blowjob in a second if it enhanced her ‘career’.
As compared to receiving a blowjob in the Oval Office. That poor dress deserved better.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:12 pmBushco never intends to abandon the embassy, AKA The Mortar Mart. What will happen to our troops left behind there? (Screw those embassy staffers who are Regent “University” grads and/or Bush political appointees. Let them figure it out). For that matter, what happens to our troops who will be pulled out?
July 10th, 2007 at 3:23 pmThe route south to Kuwait will be murderous with ambushes and IED’s–and there’s nothing harder than a fighting retreat. BUSH/CHENEY DON’T CARE IF THEY WIPE OUT OUR ARMY AND MARINE CORPS.
Oh, that Michelle FawningOverTheChympAtTheStateOfTheUnionSpeech Bachmann.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:32 pmThings look great! trust us!
Come to Iraq so you can see for yourself!!
Oh, wait, come to Iraq but don’t see for yourself…
Things must be pretty bad…
July 10th, 2007 at 4:32 pmMichelle Bachmann must been just beside herself with the wrinkles that body armor caused to her pink linen suit.
July 10th, 2007 at 4:46 pmGet this:
July 10th, 2007 at 6:39 pmSecurity conditions in Iraq prevented Bachmann from meeting any Iraqis, leaving the Green Zone or staying in Iraq overnight. She and other congressional members were required to wear full body armor, including Kevlar helmets, during the entire trip, she said.
But she said she was encouraged by reports of progress from Crocker, Gen. David Petraeus and other personnel in Iraq linked to the surge.
“The green zone is secure.”
I wrote Bush’s script for him in advance. I will advise the dullard-in-chief to use this quote immediately upon learning that the green zone has been overrun and is controlled by…who tf knows?
July 10th, 2007 at 8:25 pmAnd I’ll bet they come back singing the praises of “the Surge”.
July 10th, 2007 at 8:43 pmSo, does this mean the McCain delegation was among those not allowed to go out and have a “redo” of his first trip that was “mired” by all those soldiers that made him look bad by protecting himself from himself?
I assumed that was what his return trip was for, yet no video of him finally strolling the market without half of Camp Victory covering his sorry butt ever cropped up on YouTube.
July 10th, 2007 at 10:11 pm“While in Iraq, security conditions prevented them “from meeting any Iraqis, leaving the Green Zone or staying in Iraq overnight.†Additionally, the “congressional members were required to wear full body armor, including Kevlar helmets, during the entire trip.â€
So what? What’s the big friggin’ deal? That sounds just like a summer market in Indiana. What’s the problem here? Why doesn’t the media report on the $5 rugs they bought while wearing their flak helmets, huh? Why doesn’t the media report on GOOD stuff like that?!!!
