Vitter Flashback: Clinton should resign.

Vitter Flashback: Clinton should resign.»

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) first got his start in Congress after replacing former Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), who “abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs” in 1998. At the time, Vitter argued that an extramarital affair was grounds for resignation:

“I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess,” he said. [Atlanta Journal and Constitution, 12/20/98]

ummm, actually, Clinton did not lie under oath, as per definition of “sex” under the Paula Jones lawsuit.
But hey, nice try to derail from the actually content of this particular thread!

How about this? Hillary knew what her husband was about, Bill never got on his high horse about other people resigning because of their sexual deviancies.

Vitter is quite literally a f*cking hypocrite who held himself above others while he was f*cking whores, who lied to his wife, his constituents, and his God.

  18. squegeebooo Says:

Holy cow, at least he manned up to it decently enough

“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,” Vitter said in a statement.

“Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there –with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way,” he wrote.

  25. Exley Says:

    #9 Hey DRxJ,

Actually, you are not correct there. Clinton was found in contempt of court in 1999 by U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright for giving intentionally false testimony in the Paula Jones civil suit over which she was presiding.

“Simply put, the president’s deposition testimony regarding whether he had ever been alone with Ms. (Monica) Lewinsky was intentionally false and his statements regarding whether he had ever engaged in sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky likewise were intentionally false,” the judge wrote of Clinton’s January 17, 1998 deposition.

Moreover, on Jan. 20, 2001 Clinton copped to a plea by which he that he knowingly gave misleading testimony about his affair with Monica Lewinsky in a 1998 lawsuit. Under an agreement with Independent Counsel Robert Ray, Clinton’s law license was suspended for five years and he paid a $25,000 fine to Arkansas bar officials. He also gave up any claim to repayment of his legal fees in the matter.

Moreover, in September 2001, the U.S. Supreme Court suspended Clinton from the Supreme Court bar in connection with his plea with the independent counsel.

  39. DRxJ Says:

Exley, I will now disagree with you. I will try to paste this and hope the TP filter let’s it thru:
    (Bold type is mine)
Clinton also said, “there is not a sexual relationship, an improper sexual relationship or any other kind of improper relationship”[6] which he defended as truthful on 17 August 1998 hearing, famously arguing “it depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is”[7] (i.e., he was not, at the time he made that statement, still having a sexual relationship with Lewinsky). Under pressure from Starr, who as Clinton learned had obtained from Lewinsky a blue dress with Clinton’s semen stain, as well as testimony from Lewinsky that the president had inserted a cigar-tube into her vagina, Clinton admitted that he misled the American people and that he had had an “inappropriate intimate contact” with Lewinsky. Clinton denied having committed perjury because, in the court’s definition , oral sex was not “sex” per se.

I think both sides can come up with reasons why what the other guy did was worse than what their guy did. There seems to be plenty of sexual misconduct and plenty of hypocrisy everywhere we look.

Sexual misconduct, while sordid and vulgar, should not be grounds for resignation or forced removal from office. Let’s allow the voters to make those decisions at the ballot box, and reserve forced removal for graver sins — such as lying to get us into unnecessary wars, violating the civil rights of Americans, and election fraud.

are you fcking stupid Zooey? oh wait, you are!!

Libtards are the biggest hypocrites on planet Earth. Here is a quick example. While libtards like Al gore and others tell you and I how to live in order to supposedly safe the planet from the fake Global Warming crap, they live like kings and queens being the biggest consumers on planet Earth.

and this story is also a glaring example of Liberal hypocrisy. Whores like you have always said when anyone has brought Clinton’s infidelities that it was and is his private life and that no politician’s private life should be used against him. So why are you condoning TPs use of Vitter’s private life to go after him? care to explain stupid Libtard? hypocrite!

  47. david Says:

You know, there was a time when there was bipartisan agreement on hanky-panky and personal indiscretions. Both parties agreed: Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.

Then the Christian Right came rolling into town and decided to clear out those Godless liberals. Only they had a tough time avoiding temptation themselves and had to coverup all their pecadilloes.

This turned them into to lying, cheating, conniving hypocrites. And Christian Republicans believe, once they have been damned, they might as well go the whole hog. So they stole, killed, bore false witness, and coveted everything that wasn’t nailed down.

And that’s why this is a juicy scandal. Liberals would have said “Live and let live”, but the Christian Right has been so bloodthirsty and screaming “Die, Liberal, die!” that they won’t let them get off this easy. Either the Republicans judge themselves as they have judged or they should pack up their sex toys and go home.

As Washington is abuzz with the news that GOP Sen. David Vitter once used the “DC Madam’s” escort service, the ears of his wife, Wendy Vitter, must be ringing. In 2000, you see, Ms. Wendy was quoted in a news article focused on Bill Clinton’s marital infidelities.

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” she told a reporter regarding whether she could forgive her husband if she learned he’d cheated as Hillary Clinton had done after Monica Lewinsky became a household name. “I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

  54. veritas Says:

David: Absolutely! It’s a case of “he that doth protest too much”, is’t it? This makes it especially heinous and demented - to claim to be “walking their own talk” and then we discover that they’re just using “the talk” to hide behind. Amazing how doubly devious that is and how it becomes exponentially greater an offense.

    Comment by missmolly

I agree, sort of. I also don’t think it should be grouns for forced removal, but it should be grounds or resignation. I think it’s a matter of deceiving the voters who previously showed up at the ballot box.

I have to believe that he ran ads when he was running (I could be wrong) that likely showed him with his wife (and kids), you know, a strong family man. There probably weren’t any ads showing him in the arms of a hooker (again, I could be wrong).

This guy Vitter let down the coonstituents who put him in office in the first place. He ran on a ‘traditional’ ticket and argued for the sanctity of marriage. He had a serious lack of judgment. How can the people of La. depend on him not to make other poor decisions with something that might not be so ‘personal’ next time?

  62. veritas Says:

How many lies has Bush committed and has never taken one iota of responsibility for?? Of course, admission is part/parcel of the “saying sorry” process. Of course, we all know that “saying sorry” doesn’t cut the mustard after the fact. The amoral/criminal behavior exits and will be prosecuted in a court of law….with Vitter becoming state’s witness against Palfrey now since he’s clearly admitted that it was a wee bit more than a therapeutic massage. In his book, I can only imagine what a “sin” would mean??

  63. Exley Says:

    #40,

    DRxJ,

With all due respect, the court, to whom Clinton referred in trying to claim that he did not give false testimony, disagreed with Clinton and held him in contempt of court for intentionally giving misleading testimony. The “court” was Judge Susan Webber Wright…She was the one presiding over the Paula Jones cases. She was the one who defined “sexual relations,” as that term was to be used in the case. And she was the one who determined that Clinton misled the court by denying he had sexual relations, as that term was defined by the court, with Lewinsky.

In short, DRxJ, you are accurately recounting Clinton’s claimed defense to the charge that he lied to the court. But, what you are leaving out is that the court categorically rejected Clinton’s defense and found him in contempt of court.

Zooey isn’t making that argument - Senator David Vitter (R-LA) is. Or at least, he did in 1998, when he made a public statement in his official capacity as a U.S. Senator telling Bill Clinton to resign over something he did in his private life. It’s not hypocritical to say that he should hold himself to the same standard.

You poor slob - you really don’t have a clue, do you….vis-a-vis your incredibly transparent level of stupidity. I know how awful it is to have this president embarrassing you daily (or more aptly, hourly) and yes, we’d all love to have Clinton back and enjoy that 7 billion dollar surplus once again. But, lo, we must face the reality that we have a moron guiding us who never understood the meaning of fiscal balance…..never had a clue about the necessary moral values which a leader should embody…..doesn’t realize that the people are keeping track of each and every one of his lies…..it must be awful attempting to defend a charlatan…unless, of course, YOU are a charlatan yourself.

Your posts would certainly indicate that this is so. Not only are you a charlatan but you are a highly uneducated one to boot (EMH, by any chance?). Your facts are meaningless, your commentary is inane to downright moronic, and your presence here is unwelcome. Do us all a favor and go cry in some dark isolated corner, Conservatron because that is certainly where you belong.

  82. Jeremy Says:

This is to all the … ‘conservative debaters’ trying to hijack this thread with screams about Clinton and hypocracy.

The issue here isn’t about the rightness and wrongness of sex, I suspect, but about the hypocracy of demanding everyone else around you be saintly and faithful (if married) or celebate (if not) while fscking a whore on the side. Yes, Clinton…err, got his tool polished by Lewinski. However, he never got all high and sanctimonious about other people’s sex lives. Therefor, I am able to say, “OK, that was between him, Lewinski, and Mrs. Clinton.” Here is the funny thing.

Vitter has always been a sanctimonious jerkoff who was so interested in sticking his nose into Clinton’s private business. I’d think he was a misguided jerk if he walked the walk while talking the talk, but he couldn’t walk the walk! And now, he’s going to try to brush it under the rug by saying “Oh, I did a bad thing.” He argued that Clinton should have resigned for being caught sticking his piece in Lewinski’s mouth. Why isn’t Vitter resigning? What, it’s perfectly fine and dandy for a Republican Christian to be getting ‘erotic massages’ from a prostitute, but if a Democrat gets his knob waxed by an intern, that democrat should be run out of town on a rail? Pardon my French, but bull$#!+.

If a moderate Republican’s name turns up on the list, and that moderate Republican has never clucked on about the sanctity of marriage, I’ll give him the same pass I gave Clinton. As long as (s)he wasn’t having sex with young girls or young boys, the sex is not an illegal act. But when a sanctimonious @$$hole tells me that I must have sex with my wife only to procreate, not having fun while doing it, and I must do so in the missionary position, and even if both I and my wife decide we want to invite a third woman (or man!) into our bed, we cannot, then I find out that this same sanctimonious @$$ is banging a prostitute, I get mad.

Focus on Your Own Damn Family, leave mine out of it. Thankyouverymuch.

    Comment by SGT Higgins — July 10, 2007 @ 11:08 am

That was my argument for not voting for Clinton in 1994. I then, 4 years later, spent 3 months back packing through Europe, talking to the locals and realized that a man’s propensity to cheat is more about his quantity of testosterone and the fact that natural urges are genetically male, than about his decision making abilities. Essentially, decisions about sex are NOT the same as making decisions about public policy. Clinton inevitably went on to prove this is true. Despite his weakness for women, he was a strong leader in public and world policy.

I agree with the hypocrisy rule of measure. It has nothing to do with sex, but everything to do with character.

    And Vitter is a hypocrite.

  85. gummitch Says:

Funny, I could have sworn the point of the post was Vitter’s hypocrisy in calling for Clinton to resign for cheating on his wife, while failing to do so himself when he was outed.

We have to be honest about the male sex drive. The right usually has problems doing this, and wants to focus on condemning something that nature created, rather than the legality of his actions. And there is a difference between consensual sex and bought sex in the eyes of our legal system (which I think is silly actually).

Personally, a big part of the ‘moral’ problems we have as a culture come from unrealistic expectations and criticism of basic human nature. Cultures that respect a man’s sex drive tend to not teach women to base their self on their mate or his habits, just in case they pick one who chooses to stray…

For me, it ultimately comes back to getting into a position of accepting reality, and the rest becomes obvious. It’s just hard being realistic in a culture littered with fairy tale ‘happily ever after’ expectations, and a basic disdain for natural human behavior….

Sorry all, I have one more off-topic post:
Thanks Exley for having the ballz to engage me in the “sexual relations” debate.
I’ve tried unsuccessfully to battle the right here with that argument for months, and NOT ONE would step up to the plate, until now.
Your condensending attitudes could be toned down a bit, but hey, that’s you.
Again, thanks for not shying away, and not posting such fluff dramatics as “Libtards” or “moonbats” which add nothing to the debate

    Conservadong,
I’ve cheated several times and continue to go to church and believe in God. Aren’t those the kind of people that Jesus wanted to continue to come to church? Better brush up on your scripture Dong

Another Liberal distoring the Bible. Yes, God will tak you back if you repent and sin no more. But committing the same sin over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again…..is not exactly real Christianity.

please get a clue and an education, you will stop being so ignorant.

what you liar? Tom Delay had to resign based on the rules the Republican party had created!

    stop lying my retard.

  145. Exley Says:

    #121 DRxJ,

Judge Wright, in a 32-page decision, clearly stated that Clinton gave “intentionally false” testimony about his relationship with Lewinsky in the Paula Jones lawsuit. This historic finding marked the first time that a sitting president has been sanctioned for disobeying a court order.

From the judge’s opinion: “Simply put, the President’s deposition testimony regarding whether he has ever engaged in sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky was intentionally false and his statements regarding whether he had ever engaged in sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky likewise were intentionally false, notwithstanding tortured definitions and interpretations of the term ’sexual relations.’ ”

    “Intentionally false” statements are lies.

As for Vitter resigning, I’d say we don’t know enough yet to make that judgment. How often did he frequent the escort service? What did the “services” consist of? How old was the escort?

  146. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Now that tells us the level of fear and adulation they have for this man of many accomplishments. Everyone wishes Bush were Clinton, don’t you?

Instead of a mythical god and his son, why can you people be responsible for yourselves?

What is wrong with you that you need an invisible sky daddy to justify your actions? Act like a freaking grown adult already!

  148. Republicans Can't Govern Says:

    #145. Here you go:
    http://www.bloomberg.com/ apps/ news?pid=10000103&sid=aKtUrlQ.Os9g&refer=us

“Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives changed their rules so that Majority Leader Tom DeLay could stay in power if he’s indicted by a Texas grand jury.

The rules change is designed to protect DeLay after three of his political associates were indicted in Texas on charges related to fund-raising for state political campaigns. DeLay, a Republican from Texas, denied any wrongdoing.

On a voice vote, the House Republican Conference changed a rule that required party leaders to step down if indicted for any crime that carries a prison sentence of two or more years.”

    EDUCATE YOURSELF, ignorant one.

  149. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

    How old was the escort?

    Comment by Exley

And when we take into account the fact that Vitter is a Repub, I think we also need to ask: Was the escort female, or male, and was the escort human, or of another species?

stupid Libtard. Man, you are a disgrace and an embarrsment to humanity.
